9th - Apollo/Daviess County

10th - Ohio/Muhlenberg

11th - Meade beat Hancock

12th -Trinity/Grayson

Districts to be settled tonight. Daviess County survived its slow start and defeated a very good Owensboro Catholic team to have the right to return to regional and defend their crown. They have been without their ace Stewart Currie for much of the way due to injury.

Meade is probably the favorite going in, but Apollo has a very strong club. Apollo will bring a very very solid 1-2 pitching combo in Ryan Hundley and Cole Lyons. Ohio County has a ton of talent and a great ace pitcher in Jacob Griffin. Whitesville Trinity is a great story. They probably only have about 50 boys to pull from, yet they have a real nice club with a winning record. Keep your eye on the Raiders!

Apollo & DC was an instant classic last night. DC is peaking at the right time and are going to be be a tough out for anyone. Credit Apollo with clutch hitting late in the game to tie it in the bottom of the 7th. It will be interesting to see which side of the bracket Meade draws.

Credit Muhlenberg with a small shocker, at least to me, with their win over Ohio County. Ohio County started the season nicely but have really fallen off since. It will be interesting to see if they can recover in the regional.

Should be a great tournament! I'll be rooting for my Greenwave, but all roads lead through the 9th District. If someone other than Apollo/Daviess is going to win it they are going to have to beat them both in my opinion. I think it is the best pitching depth in the region in quite a while - Hundley, Lyons, Hayden, Burton, Currie, Lewis, McBride, Mills, Griffin, Skaggs, Turner, Hicks, Durbin, and I'm sure Muhlenburg has someone as well I just don't know much about them.

Ohio Co definitely did not hit....but they are 21-10 and hot except for the district tournament game. I do look for them to be very ready for the regional tournament. Always much respect for teams in this region...tough, tough, and talented Whoever Ohio Co draws...Apollo, Meade, or Grayson...I expect an excellent ballgame and battle. I like Ohio Co's chances against any of those tough opponents....especially in Game 1.

As far as favorites......really is just conversation.....the team to beat is Daviess Co because they are the defending champs......and they were runner-up in their district last year as well. How does the saying go....To be the man, you gotta beat the man

Tough draw for Ohio Co and Davies's Co. Ohio Co will match up with Apollo at 1pm and Daviess Co gets Meade Co at 4pm. I expect Hundley to throw for Apollo and probably freshman left-hander Blaine Gillim for Ohio Co. I suppose that Hicks will take the hill for Meade and Burton for Davies's Co. Both games are going to fun to watch. My prediction is two upsets....Ohio Co and Davies's Co to knock off Top 25 Apollo and Meade.

Grayson against Hancock at 10am and Muhlenberg Co faces Whites ville Trinity at 7pm. My prediction would be Grayson over Hancock in the early game. I like WhitesvillemTrinity in the late game in a close one.

Is Griffin hurt?? I would expect him to draw the start for Ohio unless something is going on that i unaware of. After last season, i expect Apollo to be focused and ready to play. I think Hundley will lead them to victory.

I think Grayson gets the win over Hancock, but the question is, will they throw Skaggs? Maybe they can throw off and beat Hancock, saving Skaggs for Apollo or Ohio.

I will continue to doubt Muhlenberg and roll with Trinity and Mills to pickup a real nice win for that program.

Lastly, the main event......Meade/DC. Should be a great one. I think DC will throw Hayden, as he has been there steady hand since Currie went down. I will take Meade to find a way to get it done. The Panthers are still the team to beat as defending champs, so this should be a real fun game to watch!

Rain has changed the layout of the 3rd region tourney. Now all of the 1st round games will be moved to the home field of the district champs. With more rain scheduled for tomorrow, things could get tight in a hurry. With Edmonson being so far for most schools, i suppose they wanted to simplify travel in case of rain. As of now, the semis and finals are still set for Edmonson on Wednesday and Thursday.

Very good games tonight across the 3rd. I was out at the Apollo/Ohio game and it was nip and tuck most of the way. Solid pitchers duel, saw Hundley get stronger as the night went on and pickup a 4 hit W. Griffin was very solid early, but had a moment in the 4th inning where he had trouble throwing strikes. It was just enough for Apollo to push across two runs. Ohio was tough throughout pitching out of some tough bases loaded jams, but they just couldnt find an answer for Hundley.

In the shocker of the night, Hancock County pulled the upset over Grayson County. Grayson threw off and it may have cost them. Lewis for Hancock has been great all season and he got the job done again. The Hornets move on to face Apollo at Edmonson County tomorrow night at 8. I would not be shocked for Apollo to throw Owens and try to save Lyons for the championship.

Muhlenberg kept on rolling vs Trinity, getting the 4-2 win. I really thought the Raiders had a good shot at the upset with Mills on the mound, but the Stangs stay hot and move on.

Lastly, Meade held off a late charging Daviess County team. They held a big 9-3 lead late and won 9-8. I was getting updates on twitter, that said DC rallied in the 7th but stranded a runner on 3rd that would have tied the game. I dont have many details but it sounded like a very exciting game.

Apollo and Ohio Co were both solid, but Apollo was the better team last night....gotta give them credit for holding steady. It was just a close, well-played game. Good luck to Apollo as they move forward.
