Possibly an overlooked Ohio Co player.....senior NATE MORRIS....OF skills and shows promise....does everything well. Smart player with enough game to play at the next level...not finished developing and improving

Ohio County's freshman, left-hander BLAINE GILLIM. The kid is the real deal. 38 k in 19 IP 82-85 velocity Excellent movement with sink Nasty breaking ball Dominating in every outing. He is no secret in this part of the state....as a 7th grader pitched in the regional semifinals....Also plays CF and 1B....Has gap power to both fields at the plate. The kid is no doubt one of the best around now and for years to come.

The 3rd region Ohio Co Eagles improved to 15-8 over a battling Marshall Co team at Bill Leach Field in Hartford, Ky. Jake Griffin was nearly perfect for Ohio Co until the 7th for Ohio County which led 6-0 going into the final inning. But with two outs, Marshall County rallied against Ohio Co relief pitching to tie the score. Zach Johnson entered the game for Ohio Co in the 8th inning and battled with Marshall County's excellent relief until the bottom of the 11th. Zach Gledhill, freshman right-fielder, scored from 2nd base on an infield ground ball and throwing error that sent the winning run across the plate for the Eagles. Ohio Co, who has already clinched a first round bye in the District tournament and a guaranteed birth to the Regional, will be preparing for tournament play in these final games of the season. It should be an exciting postseason in the 3rd Region with some excellent pitching during the tournament. We will see how it goes....

Probably should also mention that Coach Leach's uncle, David Leach also coached and was principal at Ohio County. Not to mention, his brother Arthur was quite a player along with cousins Jimmy and Brennan. The Leach's are Ohio County's first family of baseball and their mark on the program will always be remembered.

Hats off to both programs for trying their absolute best to battle the weather in this one. The umpires too....excellent job fellas

The weather wouldn't cooperate with Ohio Co's impressive outing against Top 20 Hopkinsville on Tuesday night at Bill Leach Field in Hartford. Up 2-0 going into the home half of the 4th, the weatherman struck again to erase the game. Nonetheless, it was an impressive outing by the 3rd Region Eagles who have struggled as of late. Blaine Gillim, hard-throwing freshman lefty, manhandled the Hopkinsville lineup with a no-hit performance on the mound. Gillim was masterful in mixing speeds, and the kid has some nasty fastball movement. It was a homecoming of sorts for assistant coach, Blake Leach, who played at Ohio Co and Brescia University. Blake'sfather, Steve Leach, and his grandfather, legendary coach Bill Leach paved the way for the Eagle program for many years. Hopkinsville has one of the best around in Coach Leach, and I look for them to certainly make a regional run this year. All in all, it was a good night for both.teams as they prepare for the last leg of the season. Mother Nature will hopefully give all these hardworking teams a break soon.

Yep....rough weather for baseball/softball....not the best time of year for these sports no doubt...but it is what it is

A perfect game...nobody reaches base...is super impressive. It must be an official game that goes the full number of innings, in my opinion, to be called a "perfect game". Otherwise I would say the pitcher had a perfect game through (number of innings when it was called). But perfect is perfect....and perfect is always impressive

In the first meeting, Apollo threw there ace Hundley, and Ohio County threw its ace, Jake Griffin. Not sure about Thursday's pitching matchup. Regardless, I expect a well-played fairly low-scoring game. But hey, its high-school baseball....so ya never can tell.

Its impossible in Kentucky with the weather. If we did, we would see an increase in injuries for sure. Those other states you mention are south of us. Yes, colleges from my start in late Feb, but they travel south to Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, and Florida. Even then, those are some toughweather games.

Down 3-2 going into the bottom of the 7th, Ohio County rallied to beat the Red Devils of Owensboro. Zach Johnson, senior shortstop/p,pitcher and Brescia University signee, scored Zach Gledhill to tie the game. With Kiah Gledhill, Eagle second baseman and KWC signee at 3rd and one out, Owensboro walked hot-hitting freshman lefty Blaine Gillim. . Gillim stole 2b to eliminate thendouble play possibility. A wild pitch by Owensboro sent Gledhill to home plate with the winning run on an excellent slide just beating the tag. The Eagles are now 10-2 with the most wins in the 3rd Region to date. They will take on Apollo Thursday in Owensboro. Apollo will be looking to rebound from a 2-0 loss to Ohio County in the first week of the season. The Apollo squad has been on a win streak, and Coach Bob Mantooth will certainly have his team prepared to play well at home against a very good Ohio County team.

As a volunteer, however, umpires are probably held to a standard that their skill can't provide....and it shouldn't be expected. Regardless, umpires deserve tremendous respect....that's part of the game on any level..

Umpiring is a paid job....whether its Game 7 or a regular-season game, a good umpire officiates and makes consistently correct calls. Everything else is just irrelevant drama when it comes to umpiring.

Ohio County definitely had an off day, and you are right about far too many walks. I expect better baseball the next time these two teams meet in the regional tournament....can't wait for that one if it happens

It was a sloppy game on both sides....but Meade Co had a few hits....it wasn't an impressive game, but a win is a win...congrats

In a game filled with more than a dozen errors, Meade Co beat Ohio Co 12-6 despite a decent outing by WKU signed Jake Griffin. Ohio Co led 5-1 going into the top of the fourth, but a multitude of errors led to an 8 run inning for Meade Co. For the second game in a row, Ohio Co couldn't stay out of a big inning in the middle of the game.

Agreed. Its early, but good programs know how to prepare and hit the ground running. Other teams will get better as the season progresses, and come tournament time....we will see who is the best and most consistent.

North Bullitt is loaded with left-handed hitters and seven deep on tough outs at the plate. I expect they will have an extremely productive season as they did in 2014. It was a good opponent for this Ohio County team who is poised for a 3rd region run this year. It definitely showed how good Ohio County can be against a top team....just gotta make some adjustments on defense, base running, and relief pitching as they move forward.

Undefeated Ohio County went on the road today to take on powerhouse North Bullitt. Ohio County led 2-0 going into the home half of the fourth inning behind freshman phenom Blaine Gillim"s dominating performance. Gillim allowed only one hitter to reach base through three innings, but in the fourth inning showed signs of struggling Gillim battled through the inning giving up one unearned run on a defensive miscue. In the 5th, Gillim tired and had control issues and a another defensive error loaded the bases. After walking in a run, Gillim finally got some relief help. But it was too little too late as North Bullitt added three more runs off reliever Andrew Dorris. Down 5-2, Ohio County's bats were shut down by excellent North Bullitt pitching the rest of the way. Ohio County (5-1) hosts Meade County on Monday at Bill Leach field.

Owensboro in a.close one....playing hot at the right time and with the right matchup against a team that just hasn't faced a team like the Red Devils. Better come to play some physical basketball against Owensboro.

Blaine Gillm at Ohio County....LHP/Center field/1B...this kid is the real deal. No doubt a D1 prospect. Throws low to mid 80s from the left side with movement for strikes. Sweet swing at the plate an absolutely excellent defensively. Sofar this year, he has been nails.
