I guess i'm old fashioned but it's still crazy to see high schools bringing in kids. I'm not here to debate if its good or bad but its definitely different times then when I was growing up watching home grown teams compete for titles. Those days are over.

Great Hire for Greenup!

Look for Apollo to announce the hiring of Mark Starns today or tomorrow. Starns has been well traveled. He has prior stints at Henderson County and Union County. Starns won regional titles at both Fleming County and Johnson Central.

Apollo may not be on this list but they have to be pretty close. I believe they have 10 3rd Region titles since 1976 including the undefeated 1978 team, a Final 4 appearance in 1988 and a runner-up in 2006.

In other 3rd Region news, Apollo is moving on from Eagle legend Steve Barker as Head Coach. 2 years removed from a 3rd Region title, the Eagles look to move on after 2 years with only 8 total wins. Tough to put all of the blame on Coach Barker, as Apollo has been a little down on talent after graduating 8 seniors from the 2018 3rd Region Championship team. I would have guessed Barker would be at Apollo for as long as he wanted and always seemed like a great ambassador for the program. There is little doubt he will land on his feet somewhere and someone will reap the benefits of adding him to their program.

Championship set for Tuesday 3/10 at 7pm Owensboro vs Owensboro Catholic - These two have played 3 times this season, with the Devils winning the last 2 handily, including the 9th District Championship game. Expect Tim Riley to have some new wrinkles for the Devils in this one, and he will need them, as Owensboro is hitting on all cylinders right now. The Aces are playing pretty well themselves. Sophomores Brian Griffith and Jai Webb will need to be their usual 15 ppg selves and they will need a couple others to join them in that role to have a shot. If Catholic cannot knock down shots, the Devils tempo will be to tough for Catholic to deal with. Owensboro guard Amari Robinson Wales has scored 27 and 24 in his first two games of the tournament and has really elivated his game to the next level. Freshman Kenyatta Carbon will pickup defense on Griffith and that would be a fun match-up to watch. The Freshman had 17 in the district title win over the Aces. I expect the Aces to compete well in this one, but i just don't see them being able to control the temp enough to steal the win. PREDICITON: Owensboro

Semi-Final Games are set for tomorrow night! 6pm - Owensboro Catholic vs Mclean County - Cougars pulled the upset over Breckenridge County to score their first regional win in 36 years!! Coach Lynam has done a tremendous job getting the most out of these guys as they also have a school record for wins. If you recall, Lynam is just a couple of years removed from Coaching Hancock County to a school record in wins as well. There will be bad blood in this one, as Catholic still remembers that football upset and how the Cougars celebrated on their own home field. It will be interesting to see how Drew Hartz responds on Saturday. Mclean plays very physical tough defense and will look to duplicate the defense they played on Kaveon Mitchell with Brian Griffith. If Catholic struggles to shoot from the outside, this could be a ball game. The Aces however, have been shooting very well the past couple of weeks. Look for Hartz, Riney and Weaver to come up big for Catholic and avenge their football playoff defeat to the Cougars! PREDICTION: Owensboro Catholic 7:45 - Owensboro vs Muhlenberg County - Owensboro is playing on a completely different level right now. Every player on the roster is playing their best basketball of the season at the right time. The Devils not only have a chance to win this region comfortably, but they have a chance to make some noise if they can get to Rupp. Freshman point guard Kenyatta Carbon is playing like a senior. He led the middle school team to a state title last year and is already making a huge contribution in varsity action. Guys like Gavin Wimsatt, Amari Robinson Wales and Jaiden Greathouse are all capable of leading the Devils on any given night. For Muhlenberg to pull the upset, they will need to be knocking down shots at a very high percentage and hope Owensboro just has an off night. Nash Divine is the guy to watch for the Mustangs. He is capable of scoring 20-30 points anytime he steps on the floor. Big man Hayden Perkins returning for Muhlenberg should help but he will have a difficult task against the size of Owensboro. PREDICITON: Owensboro

Team Rankings... 1. Owensboro Red Devils (19-10) If Owensboro continues to play the way they have over the past few weeks, they will be going to Rupp Arena. Baring a night of a barriage of 3 pointers, it's hard to see a scenario where they loose in this tournament. Freshman PG Kenyatta Carbon has really turned the corner and has become a star late in the season. Mix him with junior big man Gavin Wimsatt and junior slasher, Amari Robinson Wales and the Devils look primed for a back to back title run. 6th man and spark plug Jaiden Greathouse leads the Devils in scoring and won the 9th district player of the year. 2. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (19-11) The Mustangs roll into the rn egional tourament as the hottest team in the 2nd half of the season. They have won 11 of 12 and have played a very difficult schedule to prepare them for this time of year. Junior guard Nash Divine has been fantastic, especially in the 2nd half of the season, averaging nearly 20 points per game during the Mustangs run. 3. Breckenridge County Tigers (20-9) Don't sleep on the Tigers. They have the best player in the region and still have a bad taste in their mouths after last years overtime loss to Owensboro in the regional title game. Kaveon Mitchell poured in 40 plus points in the district championship win over Meade and comes in averaging right at 25 points per game. 4. Owensboro Catholic Aces (18-14) The Aces closed the season with a bit of a losing streak but played very well in their district win over Apollo. They have 2 super sophomores in Brian Griffith and Jai Webb, but for the Aces to reach Rupp, they need their supporting cast to be more involved. Drew Hartz, Gray Weaver and Andrew Riney can all be difference makers for Coach Riley and will need to be if Catholic wants a shot at a Regional Title. 5. Mclean County Cougars (21-11) Mclean County makes their first regional appearance in 5 years this week, after they upset Ohio County this past week. The Eagles had spent more weeks at #1 this year than any other team, but fell short against the Cougars. Logan Patterson and Jacob Clark are one of the best 1-2 scoring punches in the region. 6. Butler County Bears (21-9) The Bears rolled thru the 12th District tournament last week but drew a tough regional draw to open play this week. Parker Rice is an all-region talent but its the supporting cast for the Bears that have been impressive this year. They roll into the Sportscenter with all of their starting 5 averaging over 7 points per game. 7. Meade County Greenwave (10-18) Meade County took down Hancock and pushed Breckenridge in the 11th district tourney last week. Mitchell Dozier is playing his best basketball of the season and has a nice supporting cast that is capable of big games any given night. Coach Tripure has a very solid record in 3rd Region Tournament games since taking over at Meade County but they will have a tough round 1 assignment. 8. Grayson County Cougars (10-21) The Cougars have won 5 of their last 7 games entering tournament play. Nolan Shartzer is a player that could help the Cougars pull a first round upset. He has put up 17 points and 6 boards per game this season. ALL REGION TEAM Logan Patterson - Mclean County - 18 points & 9 boards per game this season. Led Mclean to their first regional tournament in 5 years. Tripp Manning - Ohio County - put up 19 points per game and looked like the best player in the region for a majority of the season. He will be missed at the Sportscenter next week. Jaiden Greathouse - Owensboro - While Greathouse doesn't have player of the year numbers, no player in the region does more little things than he does in limited minutes. He carried the Devils thru the middle part of their season. Parker Rice - Butler County - Rice had a monster year for Butler County, putting up 20 points and 8 boards per game. He can really make his mark on the region with big games this week. Nash Divine - Muhlenberg County - The only junior on this team. Divine has improved all season long and will be a top candidate for player of the year in 2021. 3rd Region Player of the Year - Kaveon Mitchell - Breckenridge County - Mitchell upped his game this season and made a huge jump in production from his junior year to his senior year. As a role player last year he averaged 7 points per game but has stepped into Kobe Poole's spot and raised his numbers to nearly 25 points per game this season, ranking him 12th in the state in scoing TOURNAMENT PREVIEW Butler County vs Owensboro Catholic - Butler County gets rewarded for their district title by pulling the toughest district loser, in Owensboro Catholic. The Aces won their regular season game by 10 points back in mid January. The Bears will need to bring their best defensive effort of the season to have a shot at Tim Riley's Aces who have never lost a first round game at the Sportscenter. PREDICTION: Owensboro Catholic. Breckenridge County vs Mclean County - This is a solid first round match-up on paper. The Tigers defeated the Cougars by 7, back in early February. Mclean will need to find a way to slow down Kaveon Mitchell if they want to have any chance. Mclean will be challenged to match the athleticism of Mitchell. PREDICTION: Breckenridge County Owensboro vs Meade County - While Owensboro is an overwhelming favorite in this game, this could be a tricky match-up. Meade plays very physical and will test the Devils on that end. For Meade to have any shot though, they will need to be able to hit some 3 point shots. The Waves only shot 29.5% as a team from beyond the arc this season. They will have a difficult time containing PG Kenyatta Carbon. PREDICTION: Owensboro Muhlenberg County vs Grayson County - Muhlenberg may come into the regional as the biggest favorite in the first round. They beat Grayson by 28 in their regular season meeting and are playing even better right now. Unless Nolan Shartzer scores in the 40's, its going to be a tough one of the Cougars. PREDICTION: Muhlenberg County CHAMPIONSHIP PREDICTION: Owensboro over Breckenridge County

1. Owensboro Red Devils (17-10) The Devils finished the season strong winning 4 of their last 5 games, only losing to Bowling Green by 1 point. Owensboro defeated both Catholic and Henderson by 20 plus points to close the regular season. They are easily the team with the highest ceiling and best chance to make a run at Rupp. Senior Jaiden Greathouse leads OHS with 13 points per game, while junior Amari Robinson Wales and Sophomore Gavin Wimsatt both average in double figures. Keep your eye on freshman Kenyatta Carbon and Camen Powell. Both guys have really turned the corner as of late. 2. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (18-11) The Mustangs closed the season very strong, winning 10 of their last 11 games. Junior guard Nash Divine has been one of the best players in the region in the 2nd half of the season. He is sitting at 15 points per game on average. The team has lost the services of Hayden Perkins but has a core of solid guys in the paint to help make up for the loss. 3. Ohio County Eagles (22-7) Ohio County had a tough last week of the season, dropping games to very good competition in Madisonville and Logan County. With the way this team shoots the 3, they can beat anyone on any given night. They have attempted almost 700 3 point attempts this year, making 38%. Tripp Manning is the best point guard in the region and leads the Eagles into tournament play with 19 points per game. 4. Breckenridge County Fighting Tigers (18-9) Breckenridge has cooled off down the stretch, losing 4 of their last 6 games heading into the post season. The one thing that remains consistent for Breck, is leading scorer Kaveon Mitchell. Mitchell should be the front runner for region player of the year honors and leads the region in scoring at 24 points per game. If the supporting cast like Brock Lucas and Justin Shrewsberry can compliment Mitchell in the postseason, the Tigers could make another run to the 3rd Region Title game. 5. Owensboro Catholic Aces (17-13) The Aces limp into the post season losing their last 5 games and 7 of their past 9. They will need to find a way to play better team basketball if they are going to have a chance to make any noise. While sophomores Brian Griffith and Jai Webb lead the team, they need to find a way to get guys like Drew Hartz and Gray Weaver more involved. 6. Mclean County Cougars (20-10) The Cougars have thier first 20 win season in a long long time and did so by winning their last 6 games heading into the postseason. They reeled off impressive wins over Butler, Crittenden and Apollo to close the season. Mr Double Double, Logan Patterson leads the Cougars with 18 points and 9 boards heading into the postseason. 7. Butler County Bears (19-9) The Bears have lost 4 of their last 6 games, but have be fairly consistent all season long. They are led by big man Parker Rice with 20 points and 8 boards per game. Coach Dockery has a nice cast of supporting players who could help Butler County get hot and make their deepest tournament run in quite some time. 8. Edmonson County Wildcats (12-14) Dalton Decker will lead the Cats into the postseason, putting up almost 19 points per game this season. He scored his 1,000th point in a win over Grayson County last week. The Cats have lost 4 of their last 6 but will get a rematch over Grayson County in the district tourney. 9. Grayson County Cougars (9-20) Grayson ended their up and down 2020 season on an upswing, winning 4 of their last 5 games. Nolan Shartzer has been great for the Cougars all season long, putting up 17 points per game. They will host the 12th district tournament on their own home floor. 10. Daviess County Panthers (8-20) Daviess County heads into a tough matchup with Owensboro winning 2 of their last 3 games of the season. Logan Hillard has came on strong for the Panthers as of late to compliment leading scorer Ryan Thomson. They will need all hands on deck to have a shot at the Devils. 11. Meade County Greenwave (9-15) The Waves have been a 500 team over their last 8 games, finishing 4-4. Coach Tripure always finds a way to win at tournament time and will have leading scorer Mitchell Dozier playing his best basketball of the season as the Waves get set to host the 11th district tournament. 12. Hancock County Hornets (10-16) Hancock was playing their best basketball of the season a few weeks ago, climbing as high as 7th in this poll. Since then, they have dropped 4 of 5 games. They are led by freshman Kolton Keown at 14 points per game. 13. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (9-21) Trinity had a very impressive first half of the season, but an overtime heart breaking loss to Owensboro Catholic in the 3rd Region All-A Championship game sent their season in a different direction. They were 6-8 before the loss but only 3-13 since. They will need to regroup fast if they want a shot to beat Butler County in the district tournament. 14. Apollo Eagles (5-24) Apollo has been on the verge of some very nice wins this season but have simply not learned how to win. They have had a hard time putting together complete game performances but have shown flashes of ability to beat anyone. They are led by senior guard Malik Wilson, sitting at 13 points per game. 15. Cloverport Aces (3-23) While the Aces have struggled to post many wins this season, they do feature one of the leading scorers in the whole region. Noah Pate is sitting at 23 points per game this season. District Tournament Preview 9th District at The Sportscenter Owensboro vs Daviess County – Owensboro won by 20 plus points in both match-ups. Expect Daviess County to fight hard early and Owensboro to pull away in the 2nd half. Owensboro Catholic vs Apollo – Catholic dominated the first match-up but Apollo was able to close the gap to only a 2 point defeat in the 2nd meeting. While Tim Riley is the Coach everyone looks to in the postseason, keep your eye on Steve Barker who always has great game plans in elimination games. Expect Apollo to try to take away Griffith and Webb. Drew Hartz will be the X-factor. PREDICTION: Owensboro over Apollo for the 9th District Championship 10th District at Mclean Muhlenberg with the bye Mclean County vs Ohio County – Ohio won the first match-up by 30 but Mclean bounced back and got a road upset over the Eagles just after the holiday break. Logan Patterson can change any game for the Cougars but expect Ohio County to come out firing in this one. If they are not hitting from the outside, Shane Frady is good enough to help prevent an upset. Mclean is playing their best basketball of the season but an upset here will be a tall task. PREDICTION: Ohio over Muhlenberg for the 10th District Championship 11th District at Meade Breckenridge County v Cloverport - While Breck is the heavy favorite here, this game does feature the top to scorers in the region in Kaveon Miitchell and Noah Pate. Hancock County v Meade County – Hancock swept the season series, winning both games by an average margin of 4 points. Coach Tripure always seems to find a way at tournament time but this one is a toss up. What Meade does well, Hancock defends very well. If the Hornets can find some offense, they will have a chance to go 3-0 vs the Waves. Home court could be the deciding factor. PREDICITON: Meade County over Breckenridge County for the 11th District Championship 12th District at Grayson Butler County v Whitesville Trinity – Butler County won big in the first meeting but had to come from behind to beat the Raiders in the 2nd meeting. The Bears will be the favorite but if the Raiders are hitting from the outside, they'll have a chance. Look for a big game from Parker Rice. The Raiders don't have much of a defensive answer for him. Edmonson County v Grayson County – The two teams split season match-ups but Edmonson just drilled Grayson this past Thursday. That probably won't mean to much come Tuesday. The Wildcats bring a few guys who can lead them in scoring, while Grayson County will need a big performance from Nolan Shartzer to get the win. PREDICTION: Butler County over Edmonson County for the 12th District Championship.

1. Ohio County Eagles (20-5) UP 1 Ohio County moves back to the top spot this week by going 3-0 in 3rd Region games this week, including a 23 point win in Breckenridge County on Friday. Hunter Pharis had one of his biggest games of the season, leading the Eagles with 23 points. Ohio also grinded out tough wins against Butler County and Apollo this past week with big games from Tripp Manning and Shane Frady. The Eagles play a pair of 12th district teams this week on the road at Trinity and Edmonson County. 2. Owensboro Red Devils (15-9) UP 1 The Devils opened the week with a back and forth home win over Breckenridge County. Owensboro got a total team effort in the win, getting 17 points from Jaiden Greathouse, Rhys Dickenson and Gavin Wimsatt. If Owensboro can hit outside shots, they will be very difficult to beat. On Friday, they outlasted Apollo and won by 10. Greathouse again led the way with 23 points. The Devils continue their difficult schedule this week with home games against Bowling Green and Owensboro Catholic. 3. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (15-10) UP 1 The Mustangs continue to climb in the poll, as they have reeled off 7 straight wins, all coming inside the 3rd Region. They got big wins this week over Hancock County, Daviess County and Mclean County on Friday night. The win over Mclean County gives the Mustangs a bye in the 10th district tournament and a spot in the 3rd Region Tournament. Nash Divine continues to impress, averaging 18 points per game thru the win streak. The Mustangs host Breckenridge on Tuesday before traveling to Hopkinsville Friday. 4. Breckenridge County Tigers (16-7) DOWN 3 For the first time this season, the Tigers suffered back to back losses. They dropped a back and forth game to Owensboro on Tuesday before getting blown out by Ohio County, at home on Friday. They will look to bounce back with tough road games at Muhlenberg County and Hancock County this week. 5. Owensboro Catholic Aces (16-8) SAME The Aces went 1-1 this past week, losing a tough road game to Madisonville on Tuesday before scoring a district win over Daviess County on Friday. Brian Griffith had 24 in the win over the Panthers. The Aces take to the road this week with road games against Central Hardin, Union County and Owensboro. The Aces can tie Owensboro for the #1 seed in the 9th district with a win. 6. Butler County Bears (17-7) SAME The Bears had a tough week, with two setbacks. They opened the week with a 15 point loss to Adair County and closed the week with a hard fought 6 point loss to Ohio County. They will return home this week with games against Franklin Simpson and Mclean County. 7. Mclean County Cougars (14-10) SAME The Cougars are sliding as of late, losing their last 4. This past week they dropped games to a good Logan County team and Muhlenberg County on Friday. The Muhlenberg County loss means the Cougars are the 3 seed in the 10th district tournament and will face Ohio County in the first round of district. They have road games this week against Daviess County, Butler County and Dawson Springs. 8. Edmonson County Wildcats (9-11) SAME The Cats were off this week, having games canceled due to the flu. They will get back in action this week with games against Caverna, Russellville and Ohio County. 9. Hancock County Hornets (9-12) SAME The Hornets picked up a 15 point win over Trigg County in their only game this week. Freshman Kaleb Keown continues to lead the Hornets in scoring (10.7 ppg) and rebounding (5.2 rpg). They are at Apollo tonight and host Breck in a district game on Tuesday. 10. Meade County Greenwaves (8-12) UP 1 The Waves have been playing much better as of late, winning 3 of their last 4 games. They scored wins over Grayson County and Cloverport this past week. Mitchell Dozier led the way with 15 points per game on average this week. Meade plays North Hardin and North Oldham this week. 11. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (8-17) UP 1 The Raiders finally ended their long losing streak last week and stayed on the winning side of things this week with a 16 point win over Hopkins Central. They have games against Cloverport, Ohio County and Grayson County this week. 12. Apollo Eagles (4-20) UP 2 Apollo is right on the cusp of becoming a solid team. They have been very competitive in close losses to every team in the top 5 of the region as of late. Saturday, they scored a 48 point home win over Union County. They have games this week against Hancock, Henderson and Daviess County. 13. Grayson County Cougars (5-18) SAME The Cougars have lost 12 of 13, including losses this week to Meade County and Henderson County. They will look to stop the bleeding this week with games against Bullitt East, Whitesville Trinity and St Mary. 14. Daviess County Panthers (6-18) DOWN 4 Daviess County has lost 13 of their last 14 games. They dropped games to Muhlenberg, Owensboro Catholic and North Bullitt this week. They return home for games against Mclean County and Apollo this week. 15. Cloverport Aces (3-17) SAME The Aces scored another win this week, defeating Brown by 6. Noah Pate had 28 in the win. Pate continues to lead the region in scoring at 23.9 points per game. The Aces will see Trinity and Kentucky Country Day this week.

Kaveon Mitchell was huge in the win, scoring 30. Friday, they got an overtime district road win over Meade County. They closed the week with a hard fought win against Mclean County in a tournament warm up game at the Owensboro Sportscenter. Mitchell remains one of the top scorers in the region at 22 points per game. Breck has a tough week with a road game at Owensboro before returning home against Ohio County. 2. Ohio County Eagles (17-5) UP 1 Ohio County bounced back after losing both games last week with wins over Central Hardin and South Warren. The returning Trey Lewis knocked down a 3 at the buzzer to beat the Spartans on the road. The Eagles have tough region games against Apollo, Butler County and Breck County this week. 3. Owensboro Red Devils (13-9) DOWN 2 The Devils fall from the top spot this week after losses to Madisonville North Hopkins and Evansville Bosse this week. There is no shame in those defeats, as there isn't a team in the region that would likely compete against either of those programs. Gavin Wimsatt is a player to watch for Owensboro. He came to life in the 2nd half vs the Maroons, scoring 23. Owensboro has games against Breckenridge County and Apollo this week. 4. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (13-10) UP 1 The Mustangs are the hottest team in the region right now. They have won 5 straight games and 8 of their last 10. They picked up wins over Butler County, Apollo and Hancock County this week. Nash Divine has really came on strong over the past few weeks and has upped his season average to 15 points per game. They have road games this week against Daviess County and Mclean County. The Mclean game will decide the #1 seed in the 10th district tournament. 5. Owensboro Catholic Aces (15-7) DOWN 1 The Aces have won 7 of 8 and went 2-0 in close games this past week. They opened the week with a close win against Christian County and closed the week with an overtime win against Daviess County. They really struggled on offense against Daviess, but found a way to pull out the win. The Aces travel to Madisonville and Daviess County this week. 6. Butler County Bears (17-5) UP 1 The Bears spit a pair of games this past week, losing a tight game to Muhleberg before bouncing back with a nice district win against Edmonson. The win against the Wildcats clinches the #1 seed in the 12th district which means the Bears will face off against Whitesville Trinity in the district tournament. They have games against Adair and Ohio County this week. 7. Mclean County Cougars (14-8) DOWN 1 Mclean County had a tough week this past week with losses to Hopkins Central and Breckenridge County. The Cougars can bounce back fast if they can find a way to win at home on Friday night against Muhlenberg County. A win would give Mclean the 1 seed in the 10th district tournament. They open the week with a home game against Logan County. 8. Edmonson County Wildcats (9-11) SAME Edmonson opened the week by running their win streak to 7 with a win over Hancock County. Dalton Decker led all scorers in the win. They dropped a district game to Butler County Friday, which means the Cats will face Grayson County in the 12th district tournament. They will have a preview of that match-up in their lone game this week. 9. Hancock County Hornets (8-11) SAME The Hornets went 1-2 this week, dropping tough games to Edmonson and Muhlenberg. They were able to pick up a 28 point home win over Cloverport. The Hornets have games this week against South Spencer, Indiana and Trigg County. 10. Daviess County Panthers (6-15) UP 1 The Panthers suffered 2 tough setbacks this week against Henderson and Owensboro Catholic. The loss against Catholic was an overtime heart breaker. The Panthers were in position to win late, but couldnt hold off the Aces. They will look to get back on the winning side of things this week with games against Muhlenberg, Owensboro Catholic and North Bullitt. 11. Meade County Greenwave (6-12) UP 1 The Waves split the week this week with a win over Whitesville Trinity before suffering a tough overtime district loss to Breck County. Mitchell Dozier had 20 in the win over the Raiders. Meade has games against Grayson and Cloverport this week. 12. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (7-17) UP 1 The Raiders were able to end their 9 game losing streak this week with a big district win over Grayson County. They have a lone game against Hopkins Central at the Sportscenter on Saturday. 13. Grayson County Cougars (5-16) DOWN 3 The Cougars went 0-2 this past week and have lost 10 of their last 11. Nolan Shartzer continues to be a bright spot however, as he scored his 1,000th point in a loss to Trinity on Friday. Grayson has Meade, Edmonson and Henderson this week. 14. Apollo Eagles (3-17) SAME Apollo continues to come up short in competitive games, as they lost to Muhlenberg by 7. The Eagles have another tough stretch this week with games against Ohio County, Owensboro and Union County this week. 15. Cloverport Aces (2-17) SAME The Aces got their 2nd win of the season this weekend, a 23 point win over Burgin. This week they have games against Brown, Meade and Dawson Springs.

Kenny White is the real deal. I got to call this one last night and Madisonville passes the ball as good as any team i have seen in quite some time. Very well coached. OHS is starting to turn the corner. Wimsatt is starting to look like the Wimsatt i expected to see earlier in the season. His 23 all came in the 2nd half after foul trouble kept him on the bench in the first half. The Devils looked like the best team in the 3rd last night.

Congrats to Dmarc on landing a big time Evansville job. Bosse has been a little down in recent years, but have a great tradition. I expect him to get things going pretty quickly over there, just like he did at Ohio County. Hopefully the Eagles can stay in house and hire a current assistant to keep with the foundation that has already been laid.

I would think that Edge would be the favorite to land the Apollo job but nothing is set in stone at this time. They haven't even started interviewing candidates yet. That said, he is the right man for the job. I know he has plenty of parents and Apollo people pulling for him. I wouldn't read to much into that South Spencer record. With the competition level South Spencer has had to play against and the lack of athletes in that program, Bill Belichick would have a hard time winning 2 games. Edge would bring a ton of excitement to that new stadium on Southtown Blvd.

1. Owensboro Red Devils (13-7) UP 1 Owensboro climbs back to the top spot this week, after reeling off 4 straight 3rd region wins. They got road wins this past week over Grayson County and Daviess County with big games from Jaiden Greathouse and Amari Robinson Wales. Owensboro has a 6-1 record inside the region and haven’t even hit their stride yet. That could spell bad news for the rest of the region. The Devils will be tested this week with games against Madisonville and Evansville Bosse. 2. Breckenridge County Tigers (13-5) UP 1 The Tigers went 2-1 this past week, starting with a hard fought road win at Apollo to open the week. Kaveon Mitchell led the way with 23 points. Friday, they defeated a tough Grayson County team by 18. Saturday, Bullitt East came into Harned and defeated the Tigers by 13. Breck is an impressive 12-0 against 3rd region competition. Breck has games against CAL, Meade and Mclean County this week. 3. Ohio County Eagles (15-5) DOWN 2 The Eagles went 0-2 this week, dropping them down from the 1 spot. Freshman Elijah Decker suffered a wrist injury in a loss to Barren County to open the week. Decker had been coming on strong prior to the injury. Friday, the Eagles suffered their 2nd straight 10th district setback at the buzzer, in a 3 point loss to Muhlenberg. The loss assures that Ohio County will have to play their way into the 3rd Region Tournament. They have tough games this week against Central Hardin and South Warren. 4. Owensboro Catholic Aces (13-7) SAME Owensboro Catholic has been playing some of their best basketball of the season, winning 8 of their last 10 games. They made a run to the All-A State Quarterfinals, but Sophomores Brian Griffith and Jai Webb did not play, costing the Aces a shot at an All-A State Title. The Aces return home this week to take on Christian County and Daviess County. 5. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (10-10) SAME The Mustangs went 2-0 this week, including a huge district win over Ohio County on Friday. Nash Divine was big, with 19 points. They will now play Mclean County for a bye into the 3rd Region Tournament next Friday in Mclean. On Tuesday, they blew out Whitesville Trinity. Issac Rose led the way with 16. Muhlenberg has 3 3rd region games against Butler County, Apollo and Hancock County this week. 6. Mclean County Cougars (13-6) SAME The Cougars started a successful 2-0 week with a big win over Calwell County. Logan Patterson had 27/10 while Issac Springer went for 20! Saturday they recorded a big 30 point win over the Louisville Tigers. The Cougars look to stay hot with games against Whitesville Trinity, Hopkins Central and Breck this week 7. Butler County Bears (16-4) SAME The Bears went 3-0 this week, bouncing back from a rough week last week. They scored wins over Hancock County, Whitesville Trinity and Caverna. Parker Rice was huge, averaging 21 ppg this week. Brody Hunt and Hayden Hodge chipped in with big games as well. The Bears have tough road games at Muhlenberg and Edmonson this week. 8. Edmonson County Wildcats (9-10) UP 1 Edmonson County is the hottest team in the region, winning their last 6 games. Since the return of last years leading scorer, Chaz Wilson, the Cats are 7-1. Dalton Decker put up 22 points and 10 boards in a win over Russellville to open the week. On Friday, the Cats took down Trinity in a 12th district contest. Edmonson will look to extend their win streak this week in a home matchup against Butler County. 9. Hancock County Hornets (7-10) DOWN 1 The Hornets drop a spot this week, after a tough 1-2 week. They dropped games against Butler County and Edmonson County but were able to sandwich a nice 11th district win against Meade County in. Kaleb Keown had 21 points in the overtime win over the Waves. The Hornets have games against Cloverport and Muhlenberg this week 10. Grayson County Cougars (5-14) DOWN Even though the Cougars have only won 2 games since Christmas, they are hanging into the top 10 by being competitive against good competition. They had tough losses against Owensboro and Breck this week. Nolan Shartzer continues to be one of the regions best players, putting up 17 ppg so far this season. Grayson has games against North Bullitt and Trinity this week. 11. Daviess County Panthers (6-13) UP 3 Daviess County put an end to their 7 game losing streak this week with a home win over Meade County. Ryan Thomson continued his impressive season with 29 points. Friday, the Panthers dropped a home game to district rival Owensboro. They have games against Henderson and Owensboro Catholic this week. 12. Meade County Greenwave (5-11) DOWN 1 The Waves have lost 5 games in a row since breaking into the top 10 for the first time since the preseason. They dropped region games to Daviess County and Hancock County this week. Meade has games against Whitesville Trinity and Breckenridge County this week. 13. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (6-15) UP 1 Since their emotional overtime loss in the All-A Championship, the Raiders have lost 7 straight games. Muhlenberg and Butler both bested Trinity this past week. The Raiders look to snap the down trend this week with games against Meade, Mclean and Grayson. 14. Apollo Eagles (3-17) DOWN 2 Apollo continues to be very competitive against very good competition with tough losses to Breckenridge and Evansville Central this week. The Eagles just can’t find a way to finish strong. They host Muhleneberg in their lone game this week. 15. Cloverport Aces (1-16) SAME Cloverport dropped games to Ft Knox, Beth Haven and Dawson Springs this week. They will look to snap their 12 game losing streak this week with games against Hancock and Burgin.

1. Ohio County Eagles (15-3) UP 1 The Eagles bounced back from being upset by Mclean County last week with two blowout wins over 3rd Region competition. Breckenridge County Tigers (11-4) DOWN 2 The Tigers drop a couple of spots this week after a disappointing road loss at North Hardin. Hardin has been playing much better as of late and the Tigers couldn't find an answer on the road. Justin Shrewsberry led the Tigers to a win against Daviess County to open the week. Breckenridge takes on #1 John Hardin this week before taking on Southern at John Hardin to close the week. 4. Owensboro Catholic Aces (11-6) SAME The Aces have been entrenched into the 4 spot for several weeks in a row. Tuesday, they blew out Trinity after the Raiders nearly pulled off the upset in last weeks All-A tournament. Friday, they were able to hold off upset minded Apollo, as they knocked down 10 3 pointers. Drew Hartz has really been coming on strong for the Aces, scoring 22 against the Eagles. Owensboro Catholic heads to the All-A State Tournament this week. 5. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (8-10) SAME The Mustangs opened the week with a 50 point district win against a good Mclean County team. Nash Divine stayed hot reaching double figures in the win. Friday, they battled Owensboro on the road before coming up 5 points short. The Mustangs return home this week for games against Trinity and Ohio County. The Mustangs must defeat Ohio County to keep their chances for the #1 seed in the 10th district alive. 6. Mclean County Cougars (11-5) SAME The Cougars have been a little jeckyl and hyde this season. Especially in the 10th district. They have been blown out by 30 plus points at the hands of Ohio County and Muhlenberg this season but they also have an upset win over the Eagles in Hartford. Mclean was able to bounce back from that tough district defeat to get a win against Evansville Day School. They have 2 tough home against against Webster County and Caldwell County this week. 7. Butler County Bears (13-3) SAME The Bears have an impressive record, but have struggled lately against teams with equal talent. They dropped a tough district overtime game in Grayson County on Friday before bouncing back with a win over St Francis. They will be tested this week with games against Owensboro Catholic, Hancock County and Trinity this week. 8. Hancock County Hornets (6-8) SAME The Hornets went 1-1 this week, losing Tuesday to Tell City Indiana in a hard fought game. They were able to bounce back with a nice win over Adair County, 70-53. Coach Mike Orr is doing a great job of improving this team night in and night out. They look to keep improving this week with regional games against Butler County and Meade County. 9. Edmonson County Wildcats (7-10) UP 2 The Wildcats are healthy and have now won 4 games in a row. Chaz Wilson, led the Cats in scoring in a big district win over Trinity. They stayed hot, winning their 4th straight against Cloverport to close the week. They are in position to continue a climb up the poll this week with games against Russellville and Hancock County. 10. Grayson County Cougars (5-12) UP 1 The Cougars started the week with a tough loss to Ohio County but were able to end their 6 game losing streak with a nice overtime win against Butler County. Nolan Shartzer had a big game for the Cougars in the win. Grayson will be tested this week with games against Owensboro and Breckenridge County. 11. Meade County Greenwave (5-9) DOWN 2 The Waves have dropped 3 straight games, losing 2 tough ones this week to Thomas Nelson and Elizabethtown. They have a real chance to get back on track with 2 winable games at Daviess County and Hancock County this week. 12. Apollo Eagles (3-13) UP 1 The Eagles are without a doubt playing their best basketball of the season. They pushed Owensboro Catholic on Friday, before a last second game tying shot rimmed out at the buzzer. The Eagles are going to be a dangerous first round 9th district opponent. The Eagles continue their tough schedule this week with home games against Breckenridge and Evansville Central. 13. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (6-13) DOWN 3 Since losing a heartbreaker to Owensboro Catholic in the All-A Regional Championship game, the Raiders have not responded well. They have since lost 3 straight to Edmonson, Russellville and Owensboro Catholic. They will have a chance to bounce back this week with games against Muhlenberg and Butler County. 14. Daviess County Panthers (5-12) SAME The Panthers are in the midst of a 7 game losing streak. They were very competitive in tough games this week against Breck and Ohio County. They have home games against Meade and Owensboro this week. 15. Cloverport Aces (1-13) SAME The Aces dropped games this week against Butler County and Edmonson County. They have some winable games this week against Ft Knox, Beth Haven and Dawson Springs.

The Tigers have games against Daviess County and at North Hardin this week. 2. Ohio County Eagles (13-3) DOWN 1 The Eagles had a roller coaster week this week. On Tuesday, they put together a huge 2nd half to knock of Owensboro in Hartford. Tripp Manning continued to show he is a region player of the year candidate, putting up 22 points. On Friday, however, they were upset by district rival Mclean County. The loss throws a wrench in 10th district seeding, which includes a bye into the regional tournament for the 1 seed. The Eagles will look to bounce back with regional games against Grayson County and Daviess County this week. 3. They bounced back quick on Friday, with an overtime win over District rival, Owensboro Catholic. Amari Wales was big in the overtime win over the Aces. The Devils have another tough region game on Friday, as they host Muhlenberg County. 4. Owensboro Catholic Aces (9-6) SAME The Aces started their week with an All-A 3rd Region title. They survived a scare from the Trinity Raiders, who led for every second of regulation. Brian Griffith knocked down a desperation shot at the buzzer to push the game into overtime, where the Aces dominated. Drew Hartz led the way for the Aces with 23. On Friday, Hartz came up big again, as his last second runner took the Owensboro Red Devils into overtime. However, the Aces could not hold off the Devils in the overtime period. The Aces have road games this week against Whitesville and Apollo this week. 5. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (7-9) UP 1 The Mustangs went 2-1 this week with big wins over Grayson County and Henderson County. The lone defeat this week was at the hands of Bowling Green Sophomore guard Nash Divine had a monster week, averaging 20 points per game. The Mustangs have a big 10th district home game against Mclean County this week before traveling to Owensboro on Friday. 6. McLean County Cougars (10-4) UP 1 Mclean has won 4 of their last 5 games, including a huge upset win in Ohio County on Friday. The win keeps the Cougars in contention for the #1 seed inside the 10th district. They look to move to the top of the 10th district rankings with a road game against Muhlenberg on Tuesday. 7. Butler County Bears (10-2) DOWN 2 The Bears split the week this week, losing big to Breckenridge County before picking up a big district win on Friday, against Grayson County. Soloman Fleener joined Parker Rice this week in the double figure scoring department with 10 points and 7 boards a game on the season. Butler has 3 winnable games this week against Hopkins Central, Grayson County and Cloverport. 8. Hancock County Hornets (5-7) UP 3 Mike Orr's Hancock County Hornets have won 4 of their last 6 games and enter the top 10 for the first time this season. They scored a big 5 point district win over Meade County this week. They will look to stay hot with home games against Tell City and Adair County this week. 9. Meade County Greenwave (5-7) UP 1 The Waves have won 3 of 5 and seem to be improving as the season moves along, which is typical for a Coach Tripure team. They scored a late 2 point win over Apollo on Tuesday, getting 17 from Casey Turner. On Friday, they dropped a district game at home against Hancock County. Meade has a tough week with games against Thomas Nelson and ETown this week. 10. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (6-10) SAME The Raiders had a rough week, losing the 3rd Region All-A Championship in overtime to Owensboro Catholic. The Raiders led every second of regulation, but a last second heave at the buzzer took the game into overtime. Landon Hall put up a double double in the game with 14 points and 11 boards. 4 Raiders reached double figures in scoring. On Friday, they had a let down game against Edmonson County. They will look to bounce back this week vs the same 2 opponents as last week, Owensboro Catholic and Edmonson County. 11. Edmonson County Wildcats (4-10) UP 3 The Cats won their lone game of the week, a 12th district win over Whitesville Trinity. They have last years leading scorer and rebounder back from injury, in Chaz Wilson. He should help lift Edmonson into the top 10. They have games against Hart County, Trinity and Cloverport this week. 12. Grayson County Cougars (4-11) DOWN 1 The Cougars have lost 5 in a row and 9 of their last 10. They were blown out by Muhlenberg and Butler County this week. They will look to bounce back with home against Ohio County and Butler County this week. 13. Apollo Eagles (3-13) UP 1 Don't look now, but Apollo has won 3 of their last 5 games and nearly had a perfect 3-0 week this week. They lost a heartbreaker to Meade, by 2, before bouncing back with a big home win against Daviess County on Friday. Saturday, the Eagles knocked down 11 3's and Harrison Bowman scored 24 against Dawson Springs. The Eagles have a very difficult week this week with games against Webster, Owensboro Catholic and Evansville Central. 14. Daviess County Panthers (5-10) DOWN 5 The Panthers probably aren't the 14th best team in the region, but they are in the midst of a very tough slump. They have lost 7 of 8 games, including 2 this week to Logan County and Apollo. It doesn't get any easier for DC as they travel to Breck and Ohio County this week. 15. Cloverport Aces (1-11) SAME The Aces dropped their lone game this week to Breck County and will look to get an upset this week against Butler or Edmonson County. Noah Pate is a bright spot for the Aces. He is averaging 22 points per game thru the first 12.

Trip Manning led the Eagles to the win over Atherton with 3 3's in the overtime period to finish with 31 points. The Eagles have 2 big games this week at home vs Owensboro and Mclean County this week. 2. Breckenridge County Tigers (8-3) SAME The Tigers dropped a tough overtime game to Fairdale to open last week, in their final game in Daytona Beach but bounced back with a blowout win over Grayson County. Kaveon Mitchell is among the top scorers in the Region with 22 points per game. The Tigers host Butler County on Tuesday before Cloverport comes to Harned on Friday. 3. Owensboro Red Devils (9-6) SAME The Devils have struggled to find an identity over the past few weeks but have still played the toughest schedule inside the region. They lost to undefeated E-Town on Saturday without big man Gavin Wimsatt, who was out sick. OHS did score a big district win over Apollo, after struggling early. The Devils hold the three spot this week but will need to show something on the road against Ohio County and Owensboro Catholic on Friday. 4. Owensboro Catholic Aces (8-5) UP 1 The Aces have reeled off 3 straight wins after returning home from Holiday Tournaments. They went 2-0 in All-A play this week with big wins over Mclean County and Edmonson County. Sophomores Brian Griffith (17 ppg) and Jai Webb (14 ppg) continue to lead the way for Catholic. They will play Trinity for the All-A Championship on Tuesday before hosting Owensboro in a 9th District showdown on Friday. 5. Butler County Bears (9-1) SAME The Bears lost their first game of the season this past week, at the hands of Boyle County by 15. They did bounce back with a hard fought win over Metcalfe County to close the week. Big man Parker Rice is nearly averaging a double double through the first 10 games with 21 points per game and 9 boards per game. The Bears travel to Breckenridge County Tuesday for a big regional show down before returning home for an 11th District game against Grayson County. On Saturday they host Evangel Christian. 6. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (5-8) SAME While the Mustangs have lost 6 straight games, they have played much better competition than the teams below them in the rankings. They dropped a close game to Frankin Simpson on Saturday. The Stangs will look to get a win this week as they continue their tough schedule against Grayson County, Henderson County and Bowling Green. 7. McLean County Cougars (9-4) SAME The Cougars dropped their lone game of the week, a 16 point loss in the All-A Classic to Owensboro Catholic. Logan Patterson is still averaging a double double for the Cougars with 20 points and 10 boards per game. The Cougars travel to Ohio County looking to avoid an 0-2 start in district play. 8. Grayson County Cougars (4-9) SAME The Cougars had a tough week, with lopsided losses at the hands of Breckenridge County and Central Hardin. They travel to Walden and Breckenridge County this week.
