3rd Region Week 8 Review - Devils Back On Top

1. Owensboro Red Devils (13-7) UP 1

Owensboro climbs back to the top spot this week, after reeling off 4 straight 3rd region wins. They got road wins this past week over Grayson County and Daviess County with big games from Jaiden Greathouse and Amari Robinson Wales. Owensboro has a 6-1 record inside the region and haven’t even hit their stride yet. That could spell bad news for the rest of the region. The Devils will be tested this week with games against Madisonville and Evansville Bosse.

2. Breckenridge County Tigers (13-5) UP 1

The Tigers went 2-1 this past week, starting with a hard fought road win at Apollo to open the week. Kaveon Mitchell led the way with 23 points. Friday, they defeated a tough Grayson County team by 18. Saturday, Bullitt East came into Harned and defeated the Tigers by 13. Breck is an impressive 12-0 against 3rd region competition. Breck has games against CAL, Meade and Mclean County this week.

3. Ohio County Eagles (15-5) DOWN 2

The Eagles went 0-2 this week, dropping them down from the 1 spot. Freshman Elijah Decker suffered a wrist injury in a loss to Barren County to open the week. Decker had been coming on strong prior to the injury. Friday, the Eagles suffered their 2nd straight 10th district setback at the buzzer, in a 3 point loss to Muhlenberg. The loss assures that Ohio County will have to play their way into the 3rd Region Tournament. They have tough games this week against Central Hardin and South Warren.

4. Owensboro Catholic Aces (13-7) SAME

Owensboro Catholic has been playing some of their best basketball of the season, winning 8 of their last 10 games. They made a run to the All-A State Quarterfinals, but Sophomores Brian Griffith and Jai Webb did not play, costing the Aces a shot at an All-A State Title. The Aces return home this week to take on Christian County and Daviess County.

5. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (10-10) SAME

The Mustangs went 2-0 this week, including a huge district win over Ohio County on Friday. Nash Divine was big, with 19 points. They will now play Mclean County for a bye into the 3rd Region Tournament next Friday in Mclean. On Tuesday, they blew out Whitesville Trinity. Issac Rose led the way with 16. Muhlenberg has 3 3rd region games against Butler County, Apollo and Hancock County this week.

6. Mclean County Cougars (13-6) SAME

The Cougars started a successful 2-0 week with a big win over Calwell County. Logan Patterson had 27/10 while Issac Springer went for 20! Saturday they recorded a big 30 point win over the Louisville Tigers. The Cougars look to stay hot with games against Whitesville Trinity, Hopkins Central and Breck this week

7. Butler County Bears (16-4) SAME

The Bears went 3-0 this week, bouncing back from a rough week last week. They scored wins over Hancock County, Whitesville Trinity and Caverna. Parker Rice was huge, averaging 21 ppg this week. Brody Hunt and Hayden Hodge chipped in with big games as well. The Bears have tough road games at Muhlenberg and Edmonson this week.

8. Edmonson County Wildcats (9-10) UP 1

Edmonson County is the hottest team in the region, winning their last 6 games. Since the return of last years leading scorer, Chaz Wilson, the Cats are 7-1. Dalton Decker put up 22 points and 10 boards in a win over Russellville to open the week. On Friday, the Cats took down Trinity in a 12th district contest. Edmonson will look to extend their win streak this week in a home matchup against Butler County.

9. Hancock County Hornets (7-10) DOWN 1

The Hornets drop a spot this week, after a tough 1-2 week. They dropped games against Butler County and Edmonson County but were able to sandwich a nice 11th district win against Meade County in. Kaleb Keown had 21 points in the overtime win over the Waves. The Hornets have games against Cloverport and Muhlenberg this week

10. Grayson County Cougars (5-14) DOWN

Even though the Cougars have only won 2 games since Christmas, they are hanging into the top 10 by being competitive against good competition. They had tough losses against Owensboro and Breck this week. Nolan Shartzer continues to be one of the regions best players, putting up 17 ppg so far this season. Grayson has games against North Bullitt and Trinity this week.

11. Daviess County Panthers (6-13) UP 3

Daviess County put an end to their 7 game losing streak this week with a home win over Meade County. Ryan Thomson continued his impressive season with 29 points. Friday, the Panthers dropped a home game to district rival Owensboro. They have games against Henderson and Owensboro Catholic this week.

12. Meade County Greenwave (5-11) DOWN 1

The Waves have lost 5 games in a row since breaking into the top 10 for the first time since the preseason. They dropped region games to Daviess County and Hancock County this week. Meade has games against Whitesville Trinity and Breckenridge County this week.

13. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (6-15) UP 1

Since their emotional overtime loss in the All-A Championship, the Raiders have lost 7 straight games. Muhlenberg and Butler both bested Trinity this past week. The Raiders look to snap the down trend this week with games against Meade, Mclean and Grayson.

14. Apollo Eagles (3-17) DOWN 2

Apollo continues to be very competitive against very good competition with tough losses to Breckenridge and Evansville Central this week. The Eagles just can’t find a way to finish strong. They host Muhleneberg in their lone game this week.

15. Cloverport Aces (1-16) SAME

Cloverport dropped games to Ft Knox, Beth Haven and Dawson Springs this week. They will look to snap their 12 game losing streak this week with games against Hancock and Burgin.
