Just curious as to what goes into the points accumulated in these rankings??

This is a huge county rivalry game year in and year out BUT this is probably the biggest in the history between the two schools. Regular season district championship on the line! I'll break it down a little later this week but I am looking forward to being at Apollo Friday for a huge tailgate show and the call of this one. DC will be about a 2 TD favorite but do not count out Coach Edge and the Eagles.

Yea, I'm not sure what Mayfield has to do with anything?? For Owensboro, the focus is more on teams like South Warren, Fred Doug and Graves again than a hypothetical Mayfield comparison. For them to go on the road and win this game without Carbon is impressive. Graves missed a big chance to get the Devils at home later. That's going to make for a tough trip next month.

It's been a while since I've been on but I had to check in for this one. Day jobs and traveling have kept me pretty busy but this is a big one and it's good to see all the chatter about it! Hopefully mother nature allows it to happen tonight! As for the game on the field, I honestly have no idea what to expect. It's a game full of questions for Owensboro. I don't expect Carbon to play tonight, which IMO, is a huge blow to their offense more than their defense. While I have no doubt that OHS has the players to step in and fill the roles left by Wimsatt and Carbon, we simply haven't seen it vs good competition as of yet. Casey Boone has the potential to be a fine QB for the Devils and has done everything he's been asked to thus far. Unfortunately for him, he hasn't really been tested against any high level competition. Tonight is the true test for him. The same could be said for the defense. I expected that unit to thrive this season, but was pushed around a little bit by St X(rightfully so) and Daviess County. The front 7 will need to be a lot better tonight for Owensboro to win the game. Graves offense has been balanced AND explosive this year and I don't expect that to change tonight. I do think they a vulnerable on defense though. Who will step up for the Devils in the big play department tonight?? Winstead? Taylor? Goodwin? Pendleton? They will have to have someone take their game to a level we have not seen yet at the varsity level. Home field in the playoffs depend on this one and I know the Devils have been preparing for weeks. I honestly have no idea how this one is going to go, but on paper, my gut says Graves in a close one. Something in the ballpark of 36-35.

I don't have any inside info, but I would expect both to play on Friday.

Its been a LONG time since I've checked in here but I'm back off of a summer of non stop work travel and ready for some ball! To no surprise, this is thread so far. We have been talking about this game off and on for about 3 months now here in the Owensboro area. I won't claim to know a ton about St X but knowing that Coach Wallace will be on the sidelines tells me that they are going to be very detailed oriented and prepared. Coming into the game, no matter the talent on either team, that is where I would give St X the biggest advantage. Owensboro's program needs to show me that they can clean up the little mistakes that always seem to cost them in games against teams with equal talent. I did see a little of that in the playoff win against Frederick Douglass last year, but they will need to carry that into the game tomorrow if they want any shot at winning. Here is what I expect to see from Owensboro... Offense - obviously Gavin Wimsatt is the focal point of the offense but I believe that the biggest strength of the team will be up front. Jak Lindsey and Trey Miller are bookend tackles. I'm not sure if you will find a better tackle combo in the state. Just seeing what St X has to offer at the DE spot, this instantly becomes a must see match-up for me. Those battles may end up being what determines the outcome of this game. While Owensboro will have a ton of talent at WR and RB, it is a lot of unproven varsity talent. Ethan Pendleton should be an absolute star with his size and athleticism on the outside but this is a tough game to get acclimated against one of the best defenses in the state. Khalil Rogers is the most experienced returning WR. He runs great routes but he has to be more consistent holding onto the ball this season. As far as the running game, I really don't know what to expect. I think Carbon is the best option simply due to his ability to catch out of the backfield. That wrinkle worked well for the Devils in the playoffs last season. It would not surprise me if Gavin is teams leading rusher in this one. Defense - do not underrate this group. They will be solid up front with one of the most underrated DL in the state, Sahvon Hines. He was tremendous as a sophomore last year. I feel like the Devils have one of, if not the most talented CB duo's in the state in Moorman and Taylor. Zach Clark(who completely locked down Crowdus in the state semifinal last year) will be a monster this season. He is a one man screen buster as an OLB/DB. Jeremiah Goodwin is a constant disruptor at LB and should have a monster junior season. Kenyatta Carbon will be amongst the better safeties in the state. Overall, I think this group has potential to be as good or better than the defense Owensboro had in 2019. Pure talent alone, I would give a slight edge to Owensboro. My heart says Owensboro doesn't loose a game all season but my brain knows that St X is going to be extremely well coached and will be over prepared for this game. In the end, I'm going to stay homer and ride with the best player in the state, Gavin Wimsatt, to lead a 4th Quarter game winning drive. Give me the Devils 21-14.

Muhlenberg County Mustangs (19-1) – The Mustangs have won 16 straight games heading into the Sweet 16. They are led by Senior shooting guard Nash Divine (16.5ppg). Senior swingman Cole Vincent is the backbone of the team, hitting several key 3 pointers in wins over Owensboro and Owensboro Catholic in the 3rd Region Tournament. Muhlenberg is sneaky athletic. They were able to run with Owensboro and outperform them in the process. Trey Lovell is a tough hard-nosed guard who is one of the best defenders in the 3rd Region. He can shoot the 3 and get to the rack and finishing though contact. He missed part of the season with an arm injury but is back to 100 percent and performed very well in the regional tournament. Issac Rose is a lunch pail type of kid who can go out and score 20 on any given night but most of the time he is known for his ability to lock down defensively and hit the boards. The Mustangs don’t have a ton of size, but Donovan McCoy and Alex Johnson give good physical minutes in the paint. They are very fundamentally sound and will make you work inside. Their rebounding comes more as a total team effort instead of one player. They average 26.7 boards a game because they all box out extremely well. One of the biggest strengths for Muhlenberg County is their depth. Brayden Lovan leads the charge off the bench for Coach Eades. He is an extremely athletic guard who can defend, shoot and get to the rim. Asher Carver comes off the bench as a tough spot up shooter who can play some defense. He defended a much bigger Ji Webb for a stent on Sunday when McCoy was in foul trouble and did a pretty good job. Do not leave him open in the corner or he will make you pay. Davion Summers is another guy off the bench who provides no drop off when he enters the game. Down 3 late in the 3rd quarter, Summers hit a big 3 to tie the game. He plays tremendous defense and can score at the rim. Coach Eades has done a tremendous job with this group. They do all of the little things well and seldom beat themselves, as proved by their 19-1 record. He has a great staff, led by former Muhlenberg North Coach, Steve Sparks. They can play any pace or tempo, as proved in the 3rd Region Tournament. Highlands is a tough draw, but they will be in for an all day job against these Mustangs.

Semifinals Tonight - 5pm - Owensboro Catholic vs Ohio County - Hard to bet against Coach Tim Riley in postseason play. The Aces have lost Brian Griffith (23ppg) and Gray Weaver (13ppg) for the season but kept on ticking with a win over Meade County in the opening round. Their role players had great games to propel them to the win. It will be interesting to see if guys like Luke Scales, Parker Gray and Tutt Carrico can continue to raise their game. For Ohio County, they defeated Grayson with tough defense and a total team effort led by Q Jennings. Jennings has become one of the most dynamic players in the region and can get to the rim almost at will. Now that he has added a deadly 3 point shot to his arsenal, he is almost unstoppable for any 1 defender with the ball in his hands. Coach Tony Hopper will have Ohio County playing high level defense tonight. Keep your eye on Elijah Decker and Josh Manning for the Eagles. If they have big time games tonight, it could be enough to get Ohio County to the title game. 7:45 - Muhlenberg County vs Owensboro - this is the match up of the season. Muhlenberg beat Owensboro at their place in the middle of the season but the Devils were just out of quarantine and missing Kenyatta Carbon. Carbon may be playing the best basketball of anyone else inside the region right now. Owensboro looks unstoppable with the amount of pressure they put on the basketball. They force a ton of turnovers and even used missed shots to get back quickly in transition. It seems like everyone on the team is playing at their highest level right now. Watching them play defense feels like they have 8 guys on the floor and it will be interesting to see how Muhlenberg handles the pressure. The Mustangs struggled to an opening round win over Hancock but probably had one eye on this one. They have the fire power to get the job done with Nash Divine, Trey Lovell and Cole Vincent. They also have great depth, which should help them against the relentless pressure of Owensboro. If Muhlenberg can pass the ball well and knock down shots, this game will be one for the ages. If they let Owensboro speed them up and control the pace, its going to be a rough night for the Mustangs.

Heading into the regional tournament, Muhlenberg remains the team to beat but the Red Devils are coming on strong. While the Mustangs have won 13 straight games, there is no one in the region playing better than Owensboro. Unfortunately, these two teams drew the same side of the bracket, likely setting up a semi-final showdown on Friday night. The top half of the bracket is wide open. Any of the 4 teams could make a run to the region title game. There are some questions if Gray Weaver can return for Owensboro Catholic if they survive Meade County on Monday. The Aces were without Ji Webb, Brian Griffith and Gray Weaver, but that should be a confidence builder for the Waves. Tim Riley is 14-3 in 3rd Region elimination games and 5-0 in regional openers since joining the region 6 seasons ago. Turner and Webb should be a great in game matchup but this one will come down to which teams guards play better. PREDICTION: Owensboro Catholic Ohio County vs Grayson County – this is another first round toss up game. These two played in the season opener, seeing Ohio County win big. Elijah Decker has returned from injury for the Eagles but is still trying to get in game shape. Josh Manning and Keegan Sharp are two of the best 3 point shooters in the region and this one could come down to which team shoots it better beyond the arc. Grayson County has proved to be very well rounded lately, putting 3 guys in double figures through the season. PREDICTION: Grayson County Butler County vs Owensboro – The Devils and Bears opened the season against each other. Owensboro put together a big 2nd half to get the big 29 point win. Owensboro has came together as a team in the last couple weeks, playing suffocating defense and forcing over 25 turnovers a game in most of their wins. Butler will have to take good care of the basketball and shoot it very well to have any shot in this one. PREDICTION: Owensboro Hancock County vs Muhlenberg County – The Mustangs roll into this game on a 13 game win streak, while Hancock closed the season well, having won 4 of 5 before falling to Meade in the 11th district championship. These two did not play in the regular season. Hancock does have a balanced attack that could find a way to compete here. Muhlenberg gets great production from their bench and that should be a great weapon in this tournament format. PREDICTION: Muhlenberg County 3rd Region Championship Prediction: Owensboro over Grayson County

Muhlenberg County Mustangs (15-1) SAME – The Mustangs have already punched their ticket to the regional tournament and will await the winner of Ohio County, Mclean County in the 10th district championship. They closed their season with an impressive road win at Warren Central. 2. Owensboro Red Devils (9-5) UP 1 – Owensboro is red hot entering district play. They knocked off Catholic in their only game this past week and will face Apollo in the 9th district tournament. 3. Owensboro Catholic Aces (15-8) DOWN 1 – The Aces suffered devastating injuries down the stretch and appear to be without the services of Brian Griffith the rest of the way. Griffith led the region in scoring in the regular season, but went down with a knee injury against Owensboro this past week. The teams 2nd leading scorer, Ji Webb also suffered a leg injury against Owensboro but he could return for the district game against Daviess County. Catholic had already lost Gray Weaver for the season with a hamstring injury. In a matter of a week, the Aces went from regional contender, to just trying to get out of the 9th district. 4. Mclean County Cougars (17-8) - SAME – Mclean enters 10th district tournament play on a bit of a skid, losing its last 2 games of the regular season to Paducah Tilghman and Crittenden County. They will face Ohio County Tuesday. 5. Grayson County Cougars (11-7) UP 1 – Grayson County lost their season finale against Barren County but had won 2 games in a row prior to the final week of the season. They will face Trinity in the 12th district tournament. 6. Ohio County Eagles (11-9) DOWN 1 – The Eagles appeared to be playing better as of late but have dropped 3 games in a row as they enter tournament play. They will face Mclean County in the 10th district tournament this week. 7. Meade County Greenwave (7-10) UP 3 – Meade enters district play on a 2 game winning streak. They defeated Owensboro Catholic to close the season. The Waves are the 1 seed in the 11th district and will be a heavy favorite against Cloverport. 8. Hancock County Hornets (7-10) DOWN 1 – The Hornets did not play this past week as they are gearing up for an 11th district showdown with Breckinridge County. 9. Daviess County Panthers (5-13) UP 2 – The Panthers have lost 4 in a row and 7 of their last 8 but will have an opportunity against Owensboro Catholic this week. The Aces are wounded and the Panthers can erase a disappointing regular season with a win on Tuesday. 10. Apollo Eagles (5-12) – DOWN 1 – Apollo enters district play having won 2 of 3. The Eagles are playing their best basketball of the season but will be heavy underdogs against Owensboro in the 9th district tournament. 11. Butler County Bears (4-8) SAME– The Bears did not play in the final week of the season. They will play Edmonson County in the 12th district tournament. 12. Breckinridge County Tigers (7-10) UP 1 – The Tigers did not play this past week. They will face Hancock County in the 11th district tournament. 13. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (5-12) – DOWN 1 – The Raiders have lost 10 of their last 11 heading into district play. They will face Grayson County in the 12th district tournament. 14. Edmonson County Wildcats (6-12) SAME – The Wildcats closed the season on 6 game losing streak. They are set to take on Butler County in the 12th district tournament. 15. Cloverport Aces (1-21) SAME – The Aces enter district play having lost their last 5. They will face Meade County in the 11 district tournament. DISTRICT PREVIEWS 9th District Preview – #1 Owensboro vs #4 Apollo, #2 Owensboro Catholic vs #3 Daviess County The unfortunate injuries to Owensboro Catholic have made the 9th district more interesting than it seemed a week ago. The Aces defeated Daviess County by 4 a few weeks ago in a hard fought battle. It appears they will now be without the services of the region’s leading scorer, Brian Griffith. If Ji Webb can’t go, the Aces are going to have an uphill battle. Owensboro will be heavily favored against Apollo, as they just beat the Eagles by 35 on March 2nd. DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP PREDICTION: OWENSBORO OVER OWENSBORO CATHOLIC 10th District Preview – Bye #1 Muhlenberg County, #2 Mclean County vs #3 Ohio County Mclean County defeated Ohio County by 15 back on January 19th but the Eagles are playing much better as of late. Q Jennings has came on strong down the stretch and Elijah Decker has also been cleared to return. Mclean is very well coached and will be a tough out. This matchup is the most interesting elimination game in the region. DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP PREDICTION: MUHLENBERG COUNTY OVER OHIO COUNTY 11th District Preview - #1 Meade County vs #4 Cloverport, #2 Breckinridge County vs #3 Hancock County The Waves will be the overwhelming favorite to defeat Cloverport. Meade had lost 9 straight games before closing the regular season strong with 2 wins. The 2 vs 3 matchup should be a good one, as Breck County looks to continue its streak of regional tournament appearances. They will have to overcome a Hancock County team playing its best basketball of the season. Breck won the regular season matchup by 2 back on February 5th. DISTRICT CHAMPIONSHIP PREDICTION: MEADE COUNTY OVER HANCOCK COUNTY 12TH District Preview - #1 Grayson County vs #4 Whitesville Trinity, #2 Edmonson County vs #3 Butler County Grayson County has been a streaky team all season long and have a dangerous opening round matchup against home standing Whitesville Trinity. The Raiders have competed well against good competition all year, but don’t have the wins to show for it. The Cougars held off the Raiders in Leitchfield back in January, winning by 4. If the Cougars can find a way to limit Landon Huff, they should be the favorite in this one. The 2vs 3 game is also a toss-up. The Bears enter district play having only played 12 games on the season, while Edmonson limps in, having lost their last 6. Chaz Wilson is the only player in the region averaging a double double and will be a factor in this one. Edmonson won the regular season matchup by 6 back in January. The Devils are really starting to turn the corner. Kenyatta Carbon is playing like one of the best players in Western Kentucky right now. He scored 35 vs Ohio County Friday and 27 against Catholic last night in limited minutes in the 4th quarter. Coach Drake has started to find his 8-9 guys to rotate in and all of them are giving Owensboro good minutes right now. On the flip side, the Aces lost Brian Griffith and Ji Webb within a minute of each other last night. It felt like the Devils had already taken control in the 3rd quarter before the injuries but the bigger story has to be, how bad are they hurt?? Griffith's injury looked really bad. He went to cut at mid court and just dropped in pain. It looked like a knee injury to me. Just one minute before, the Aces lost Webb after he landed poorly on a dunk attempt. At first, I thought he might have broke his leg but he was up and even returned to the game for a bit. Looked like maybe a muscle injury of some sort. Either way, the Aces are already down Gray Weaver for the season. If Brian or Ji can't go against Daviess County next week, its going to be an uphill battle for them from here on out.

Muhlenberg has a bye. Ohio will play McLean in the first round. Should still be a good game.

Just saw this! Weaver is done for the year. He will not return. More bad news for Catholic after last night's loss vs Owensboro. Brian Griffith and Ji Webb BOTH went down with injury. Both looked bad. So unfortunate for them. I'd be suprised if either are able to go for Daviess County next week. Maybe Ji, but I don't know. Looked like a muscle injury. If those guys cant go, there are only 2 teams that can win the region IMO. Muhlenberg enters as a favorite but Owensboro is really surging. That should be the regional final baring an upset.

1. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (14-1) SAME – The Mustangs continued to roll this past week, extending their winning streak to 11 games. They scored blowout wins over Russellville and Hopkins Central. Nash Divine put up an average of 21 points per game in the wins. They will close the regular season with 2 road games against Whitesville Trinity and Warren Central. 2. Owensboro Catholic Aces (15-6) SAME – The Aces had a 3-1 week, but have shown that they are missing Gray Weaver in the lineup. They opened the week with wins over Hancock County and Daviess County before falling to Greenwood on Friday. It took a big 4th quarter for the Aces to overcome an Apollo upset bid on Sunday. Brian Griffith had a big week, with 22 points per game, but it was Sam McFarland who stepped into a bigger role with big games against Daviess County and Apollo. The Aces close their season against Owensboro and Meade County. 3. Owensboro Red Devils (8-5) SAME – Coach Rod Drake seems to be finding a lineup that he likes, as the Devils went 2-1 this week. They hammered Apollo to open the week before falling to Bowling Green on Wednesday. They bounced back with a blowout win over Ohio County on Friday. Kenyatta Carbon has really started to emerge as one of the region’s best players, scoring 35 against Ohio County. They will close the season against Owensboro Catholic to determine the 1 seed in the 9th district. 4. Mclean County Cougars (17-6) - SAME – The Cougars went 4-0 against lesser competition this past week. They scored wins over Hopkins Central, Cloverport, Pleasant View Christian and Dawson Springs. Andrew Brackett and Travis Phillips have started to consistently step up around Brady Dame to make the Cougars more well rounded. They close the season with home games against Paducah Tilghman and Crittenden County. 5. Ohio County Eagles (11-8) SAME – Even though the Eagles only went 1-2 this past week, they showed a lot of toughness in losses to Owensboro and Greenwood. They did open the week with a blowout win over Hopkins Central. Q Jennings has really emerged over the past few weeks and Josh Manning is one of the region’s best 3 point shooters. They will close the season against South Warren. 6. Grayson County Cougars (11-7) SAME – Grayson bounced back from an 0-3 week last week with 2 wins this week. They took down Bullitt Central and Breckinridge County this week. Keegan Sharp continues to play well, putting up 17 and 21 points in the 2 wins. The Cougars close at home against Barren County. 7. Hancock County Hornets (7-10) SAME – The Hornets are 4-2 in their last 6 games. They split games this past week. They battled Owensboro Catholic before losing the lead late but bounced back with a nice 14 point win over Whitsville Trinity. Darian Clay has came on strong for the Hornets to compliment leading scorer Devyn Powers. Hancock has no more games scheduled on the regular season. 8. Daviess County Panthers (5-10) UP 2 – The Panthers battled Owensboro Catholic this week but came up short in the final frame. Daviess County has proven they can push any team in the region, but have to find a way to close out games. They will finish the regular season hosting Union County. 9. Apollo Eagles (4-12) – UP 3 – Apollo opened the week with a blowout loss at the hands of Owensboro but bounced back well with a nice road win over Butler County. The Eagles carried that momentum into Sunday, as they led Owensboro Catholic late in the 4th quarter before falling short. Cameron Frantz had a monster game against the Aces with 34. Apollo closes the season with a game against Russellville. 10. Meade County Greenwaves (5-10) DOWN 2 – Meade’s slide has continued to 9 straight games. They dropped games to Campbellsville and North Hardin this past week. They close the season with games against Campbellsville and Owensboro Catholic this week. 11. Butler County Bears (4-8) DOWN 2 – The Bears went 1-2 this past week, with a win over Cloverport sandwiched between 2 losses to Henderson and Apollo. They close the season with Logan County. 12. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (5-12) – SAME – The Raiders have lost 9 straight games, but are never an easy out. They battled Henderson County into overtime this past week before losing by 1 on a last second tip in. They dropped another game to Hancock to close the week. Landon Huff is a bright spot for the Raiders and one of the most underrated players in the region. He is putting up 16 points per game. The Raiders beefed up their schedule in the final week with games against Muhlenberg, Cloverport, Union and Trigg County. 13. Breckinridge County Tigers (7-10) UP 1 – The Tigers split games this week, knocking off Hart County before falling to Grayson County. They do not have any games scheduled this week as of right now. 14. Edmonson County Wildcats (6-12) DOWN 1 – The Wildcats closed the season on 6 game losing streak. They are set to take on Butler County in the 12th district tournament next week. 15. Cloverport Aces (1-19) SAME – The Aces dropped 3 games this week to Butler County, Birgin and Mclean County. They close the regular season with games against Trinity, Beth Haven and Caverna.

With 2 weeks to go in the regular season, the regional rankings are becoming clearer. Muhlenberg now has wins over every team inside the top 6 of this poll. Catholic will have to prove they can overcome the loss of senior forward Gray Weaver, who may be lost for the season. Owensboro still has a high ceiling and positioning themselves for the stretch run. It’s hard to see a path to a regional title outside of any team in the top 3. 1. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (12-1) - SAME – The Mustangs went 3-0 this past week, with their biggest win coming on the road against Owensboro Catholic. They handled the Aces by 14 to make the definitive #1 team in the 3rd Region. They also scored wins against Apollo and Grayson County. Cole Vincent knocked down a last second 3 pointer to beat Grayson County on Saturday in a wild finish. Nash Divine had a great week, averaging 22 points per game in the 3 wins. Muhlenberg will try to keep their 9 game win streak alive with games against Russellville and Hopkins Central. 2. Owensboro Catholic Aces (12-5) SAME – Bigger than the 0-2 week for Owensboro Catholic, is the loss of senior forward Gray Weaver. Weaver suffered a severe ankle sprain late in the All-A loss to Clinton County and may not be able to return this season. His absence was felt in Friday’s double digit loss to Muhlenberg. The Aces have a busy week to get things right, with games against Hancock, Daviess County, Greenwood and Apollo. 3. Owensboro Red Devils (6-4) - SAME - Owensboro had a much better week this week, opening with a very impressive win over South Spencer Indiana. They opened district play with a win over Daviess County on Saturday. Getting Kenyatta Carbon back has been huge for the Devils. They have games against Apollo, Bowling Green and Ohio County this week. 4. Mclean County Cougars (13-6) - SAME – It was a 2-1 week for the Cougars this past week, scoring wins over Grayson County and Whitesville Trinity, before falling to Allen County on Saturday. The win over Grayson County came in over time. Travis Phillips emerged as an offensive threat for the Cougars, pitching in to help Brady Dame in the scoring column. Mclean has games against Hopkins Central, Cloverport, Pleasant View and Dawson Springs this week. 5. Ohio County Eagles (10-6) UP 1 – The Eagles are starting to turn the corner. They went 3-0 this past week and have now won 5 straight games. Q Jennings emerged to lead Ohio in wins over Hancock, Meade and Webster County. Jennings averaged 23 points in the 3 wins. It looks like the team is finally learning how to have success without Sophomore Elijah Decker. They have games against Edmonson, Owensboro and Greenwood this week. 6. Grayson County Cougars (9-7) DOWN 1 – The Cougars went 0-3 this past week but lost some hard fought battles. They opened the week with a gritty overtime loss to Mclean. They erased a large 4th quarter deficit before running out of gas in overtime. They came back with a tough shooting night against Hancock County before pushing #1 Muhlenberg to the wire on Saturday. Grayson has proven they are going to be a tough out come tournament time. They look to bounce back with games against Bullitt Central and Breck County this week. 7. Hancock County Hornets (3-8) UP 7 – This is where the drop off in the 3rd region begins. Hancock moves up 7 spots this week after winning 3 of their past 4. They scored tough wins over Grayson and Meade County this week. Devyn Powers is leading the way for the Hornets with 15 points per game and has really emerged over the past few weeks. They will look to stay hot against Owensboro Catholic, Whitesville Trinity and Adair County. 8. Meade County Greenwaves (5-8) SAME – Meade has now lost 7 straight games, including 2 this week to Ohio and Hancock County. They have games this week against Campbellsville and North Hardin. 9. Butler County Bears (3-6) UP 4 – The Bears have been battling Covid and mother nature but went 2-2 this past week. They have Henderson and Apollo scheduled this week. 10. Daviess County Panthers (5-10) DOWN 2 – The Panthers went 1-2 this past week, scoring a win over district rival Apollo on Friday. They lost games to Logan County and Owensboro to close the week. Sophomore Cole Burch leads the team in scoring and rebounding but needs some other guys to step up around him. They have games against South Warren, Owensboro Catholic and Bethlehem this week. 11. Apollo Eagles (3-10) – DOWN 2 – Apollo went 1-2 this past week with a win over Whitesville Trinity and losses to Muhlenberg and Daviess County. Apollo is now looking at their 3rd straight losing season and their worst 3 year stretch in school history. They have games against Owensboro, Butler County and Owensboro Catholic this week. 12. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (5-12) – DOWN 2 – The Raiders went 0-3 this past week, with losses to Butler County, Apollo and Mclean. They look to bounce back with games against Henderson, Hancock County and Calloway this week. 13. Edmonson County Wildcats (6-9) DOWN 1 – The Wildcats went 1-3 this past week but have lost 7 of their last 8 games. Their lone win came against Breckinridge County. They lost games to Hart, Logan and Madisonville. The Cats will try to get back on track with games against Ohio County, Green County and Russellville. 14. Breckinridge County Tigers (6-9) DOWN 3 – Breck split games this week, losing to Logan County before knocking off Cloverport. They have home games this week against Hart and Grayson County. 15. Cloverport Aces (1-16) SAME - The Aces scored their first win of the season this past week, knocking off Whitefield Academy. They will look to keep it going against Butler County, Mclean County and Burgin.

Mclean County Cougars (11-5) - UP 1 – The Cougars scheduled 2 games on Saturday at the Owensboro Sportscenter and won them both. They defeated Edmonson County and Shawe Memorial, Indiana. Grayson County Cougars (9-4) DOWN 1 – lost their only game this past week to a very good LaRue County team. The Cougars will look to get back on track this week with 3 straight 3rd region games against Mclean, Muhlenberg and Hancock. 6. Ohio County Eagles (7-6) SAME – The Eagles had all of their games canceled this past week but return to action this week with games against Hancock and Meade County. 7. Meade County Greenwaves (5-5) SAME - The Waves had all of their games canceled this past week but return to action this week with games against Bullitt Central, Ohio County and Hancock County . 8. Daviess County Panthers (4-8) SAME – The Panthers battled a very good Lyon County team before losing by 10 on Saturday. Cole Burch scored 24 in defeat. Daviess County plays Logan County to open the week before opening 9th district play with back to back games against Apollo and Owensboro 9. Apollo Eagles (2-8) - SAME – A short handed Apollo team lost to Barren County 73-31 on Saturday. They get back to action this week with games against Muhlenberg, Whitesville Trinity and Daviess County. 10. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (5-9) - SAME – lost their only game last week against Union County. The Raiders return to action this week with 4 games. They have Butler County, Apollo, Mclean County and Todd County scheduled this week. 11. Breckinridge County Tigers (5-8) UP 1 – The Tigers scored a 10 point win over Caldwell County this past week. Kason Morris led the way with 22 points. They have games against Edmonson County and Cloverport this week. 12. This week they have Grayson, Meade and Warren Central scheduled. 2. Owensboro Catholic Aces (11-3) SAME - defeated previously unbeaten Lyon County 71-47 to open the week. They followed that up with an impressive road win over Evansville Reitz on Saturday. Gray Weaver had a nice week leading the Aces in both wins. Grayson County Cougars (9-3) UP 1 - they defeated Daviess County in their only game this week. River Blanton had 18 and Keegan Sharp had 17. They have games against Hart County, Muhlenberg, Central Hardin and LaRue scheduled this week. 5. Mclean County Cougars (9-5) - DOWN 1 - took wins over Dawson Springs & CEC Homeschool before closing the week with a loss to Owensboro. Brady Dame averaged a double double this week. They have games against Union and Cannelton Indiana this week. 6. Ohio County Eagles (7-6) UP 1 - got wins over Hancock and Daviess County to get back above.500 this week. They have Owensboro, Whitesville Trinity and Butler County scheduled this week. 7. Meade County Greenwaves (5-5) DOWN 1 - dropped their 4th straight in a loss to North Bullet this week. The Waves look to get back on track with games against Breck, Cloverport and Muhlenberg this week. 8. Daviess County Panthers (4-7) UP 2 - lost to Grayson and Ohio County this week but did get a win over Whitesville Trinity this week. Owensboro Catholic is impressive. They execute their roles very well and have 2 superstar players in Webb and Griffith.

Nash Divine had a big week, scoring 27 against Madisonville and 20 against Caldwell. The Mustangs have a huge regional game against Owensboro on Tuesday before hosting Hancock on Friday. 2. Owensboro Catholic Aces (9-3) – SAME – While the Aces went 1-1 this week, their loss was an impressive showing. They pushed Bosse into triple overtime before falling to a last second shot. The Bulldogs were ranked #2 in Indiana class 3A. Ji Webb was brilliant, scoring 34. Saturday, they were able to hang on against Webster County for a 2 point win. Brian Griffith scored 31. They have a big time game against undefeated Lyon County tonight before games against Christian County and Evansville Reitz. 3. Owensboro Red Devils (2-1) – SAME – Owensboro comes out of quarantine this week with games scheduled against Muhlenberg, Warren Central and Mclean County. 4. Mclean County Cougars (9-4) – UP 1 – The Cougars went 3-0 this past week with wins over Daviess County, Dawson Springs and Christan Educational (home school). Travis Phillips and Brady Dame had 14 each to lead the way in the big regional win over Daviess County. Mclean looks to stay hot this week against Christian Fellowship, Evansville Day and Owensboro. 5. Grayson County Cougars (8-3) – UP 1 – Grayson County has won 6 of their last 7 games, going 2-0 this past week. They scored a nice road overtime win over Meade County. Keegan Sharp was on fire, knocking down 10 3’s on his way to 39 points. They came back Saturday and knocked off North Bullitt 65-54. The Cougars look to keep it going this week against Daviess County, Edmonson and Trinity. 6. Meade County Greenwave (5-4) – DOWN 2 – The Waves dropped all 3 games this past week, starting with an overtime heartbreaker to Grayson County. They battled CAL before coming up short 63-59. Saturday, they lost to a very good Elizabethtown team. Casey Turner put in a nice showing against CAL, scoring 21. They will look to bounce back this week with road games against North Bullitt and Central Hardin. 7. Ohio County Eagles (5-6) – UP 1 – The Eagles split a pair of games this week. They opened the week with a 12 point win over Whitesville Trinity before falling over the weekend to Central Hardin. They only have 1 game scheduled this week against Madisonville. 8. Edmonson County Wildcats (5-4) – DOWN 1 – The Wildcats went 1-2 this past week, opening with a 60-41 win over Caverna. Chaz Wilson was huge, putting up 20 point and 15 boards. They dropped their next 2 region games to Whitesville Trinity and Hancock County. They have Grayson County and Butler County scheduled this week. 9. Apollo Eagles (2-7) – SAME – Apollo is quarantined until February 20th according to their schedule. 10. Daviess County Panthers (3-5) – SAME – The Panthers split a pair of games this week, losing to Mclean County before bouncing back against Hart County. They have road games against Grayson County and Union County before returning home to close the week against Whitesville Trinity. 11. Butler County Bears (1-4) – SAME – Butler County is in quarantine and do not have a game scheduled until February 19th. 12. Breckinridge County Tigers (3-7) – UP 1 - The Tigers scored a win over Hancock County in their lone game this week. Kason Morris led the way with 20 points! Whitesville Trinity Raiders (4-6) – UP 1 – The Raiders have won 3 of their last 4, including back to back wins over Edmonson County and Bethlehem. Hancock County Hornets (3-6) – DOWN 2 – The Hornets had an up and down week, scoring wins over Cloverport and Edmonson County. On Friday, they dropped a district game to Breckinridge County. They have a tough week scheduled this week with games against Henderson County, Muhlenberg County and Perry Central IN. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-12) – SAME – The Aces dropped 3 more games this week, losing to Hancock County, Shawnee and Allen County Scottsville. They will seek their first win with games against Christian Educational Consortium, Butler County and Thomas Nelson.

Nash Divine had 19 and Issac Rose stepped into a larger role due to injuries with 13. Muhlenberg has games against Madisonville and Caldwell County scheduled this week. 2. Owensboro Catholic Aces (8-2) – DOWN 1 - The Aces split their 2 games this week but have lost 2 out of their last 3. They opened the week with a win over Christian County. Brian Griffith stayed hot to lead Catholic with 27 points. Over the weekend, they lost to University Heights, a team they had beaten earlier in the year. This week they picked up a great big time opponent in Evansville Bosse. Bosse was #3 in class 3A Indiana last week. 3. Owensboro Red Devils (2-1) – SAME - The Devils got big games from Amari Robinson Wales (20 points) and Kenyatta Carbon (18 points) in their win over Breckinridge this past week. Unfortunately, due to a positive test, Owensboro has had to go back in quarantine. Their next game isn’t unit February 9th against Muhlenberg County. 4. Meade County Greenwave (5-1) – SAME - Meade split their games this week, suffering their first loss of the season to Henderson County to open the week. They bounced back with a nice district win over Hancock County. Cam Armstead and Cannon Decker led the way with 14 points each. The Waves can secure the #1 seed in the 11th district with a win over Cloverport in a few weeks. They have a tough week scheduled this week with games against Grayson County, CAL and ETown. 5. Mclean County Cougars (6-4) – SAME - The Cougars hold the 5 spot despite going 0-2 this week. They lost games to Muhlenberg and Crittenden County in overtime. Even in defeat, the Cougars were very competitive in both contests. They look to bounce back this week with games against Daviess County and Dawson Springs. 6. Grayson County Cougars (6-3) – SAME - Grayson split games this week, losing to Butler County to open their week. They bounced back with a win over Nelson County. Keagan Sharp led the Cougars with 13 in the win. They have 3 home games this week against Meade County, Butler County and North Bullett. 7. Edmonson County Wildcats (4-2) – SAME - The Wildcats are in quarantine at the moment. They are scheduled to return to action against Whitesville Trinity on Friday. 8. Ohio County Eagles (4-5) – SAME - Ohio County put an end to their 4 game losing streak with back to back wins over Apollo and Breckinridge County. Josh Manning had big games beyond the arc to lead the way for the Eagles. Over the weekend they dropped a game to John Hardin. They have Whitesville Trinity and Central Hardin scheduled this week. 9. Apollo Eagles (2-7) – UP 2 - Apollo got their 2nd win of the season on the road at South Warren to open the week. They followed that up by battling Ohio County, before falling to a red hot shooting performance from the Eagles. Cameron Frantz had a great week for Apollo with 19 points against South Warren and 23 against Ohio County. Apollo has a tough week scheduled with Henderson County, Daviess County and Lyon County this week. 10. Daviess County Panthers (2-4) – DOWN 1 - Daviess County came out of a long quarantine this week with a loss to South Warren. They will seek their first win in nearly a month with games against Mclean County, Apollo and Warren East this week. 11. Butler County Bears (1-4) – UP 1 - The Bears got their first win of the season this week against Grayson County. Solomon Fleener and Leevi McMillin both had 15 points in the win. Unfortunately for Butler County, they had now gone back into quarantine for the time being. 12. Hancock County Hornets (1-5) – DOWN 2 - After losses to Meade County and Allen County Scottsville, the Hornets have now lost 5 games in a row. They will look to end their skid with games against Breckinridge County and Edmonson County this week. 13. Breckinridge County Tigers (2-7) – SAME - The Tigers dropped games to Owensboro and Ohio County this past week. They only have one game scheduled this week, a district matchup at home against Hancock County. 14. Whitesville Trinity Raiders (2-5) – SAME - The Raiders split games this week with a loss to Hart County, followed up with a win over Hopkins Central. Landon Huff is off to a great start for the Raiders, putting up 18 points per game. They look to keep the momentum going this week with games against Ohio County, Edmonson County and Bethlehem. 15. Cloverport Aces (0-9) – SAME - The Aces dropped their lone game of the week to Todd County Central. They will look for their first win of the season against Walden, Shawnee and Allen County Scottsville this week.

Its pretty rough. I feel like any of the top 3 could work their way into the top 25, which is as good as its been at the top in the past 2-3 years. Anything after that is way down. A lot of 3rd region varsity basketball resembles more of a JV level. I hate to put it that way, but unfortunately, its the hard truth.

We were talking about coming down to broadcast that game if we are allowed in. If it even happens, of course. Owensboro played pretty well against Bosse and Bosse looked like a whole different level of basketball compared to most teams in the 3rd.

Through the first 3 weeks of the season, it appears the region is a 3 team race but Meade County and Mclean County are both off to great starts. Anyone outside the Top 5 has some serious work to do to prove they have a shot to compete inside this region.

Owensboro Catholic Aces (7-1) SAME- The Aces lost their first game of the season over the weekend to Desales, 57-46. They blew out Union County to open the week behind 31 points from Brian Griffith. The Aces have Christian County, Hopkinsville and University Heights scheduled this week. Muhlenberg County Mustangs (4-2) SAME - The Mustangs beat Butler County to open the week but fell to Hopkinsville on Friday. They bounced back with a nice win over Logan County Saturday. Trey Lovell suffered an injury that will cause him to miss some time. The Mustangs have Mclean scheduled on Thursday for the number 1 seed in the 10th district. The winner gets a bye into the 3rd Region Tournament. Owensboro Red Devils (1-1) SAME - Owensboro came out of quarantine with a loss to #4 ranked Evansville Bosse. The Devils have Breckinridge County, Apollo and Daviess County scheduled this week. Meade County Greenwave (4-0) SAME - Stayed unbeaten with wins against Breckinridge County and Whitesville Trinity this week. Have Henderson Cloverport and Hancock County scheduled this week. Mclean County Cougars (6-2) UP 2 - Got wins over Ohio County and Breckinridge County this week. The win over Ohio sets up a big game against Muhlenberg County this Thursday for the number 1 seed in district and a bye into the regional tournament. They also have Butler County and Crittenden County this week. Grayson County Cougars (5-2) UP 3 - Picked up 3 straight wins vs Edmonson County, Apollo and Whitesville Trinity. Have games scheduled against Butler County, Edmonson and Nelson County scheduled this week. Edmonson County Wildcats (4-2) UP 1 - broke their two game losing streak with a win against Butler County. Have Hart County, Grayson County and Daviess County on the schedule this week. Ohio County Eagles (2-4) DOWN 3 - The Eagles dropped both games to Mclean County and Henderson County this week.
