It would be awesome to see Ft. Knox return to what they were in the 80's and 90's, but the nature of the personnel at the military base has changed such that I think it would be impossible. They sure had some amazing teams, though. From 83 - 90, they were in the finals four times, winning three titles. They were also in the finals in the mid 90's with Derek Homer, losing to (I think) one of the good Breathitt Co. teams.

X was way harder for your team to beat when he was there, that's for sure.

Agree 100%. I do think every team needs an under-center power based package for short yardage and goal line, though. I see too many spread teams get stopped in short yardage situations running shotgun,4-wide on 3rd and 1.

Spread offense is not the "end-all, be-all" for all schools. It fits some schools, and it is a terrible fit at others. I have seen plenty of cases where a team tries to implement a spread offense at a school that is a poor fit for it and takes the program from decent to terrible.

It is tough to make it out of the 7th region any year. There is never a sure thing in the 7th.

I agree with you 100% about balance. I think a competent passing game is a must. I just don't agree with you that a competent passing game has to be from a spread offense. I have seen plenty of wing-t teams with a quality, complimentary passing game. See John Hardin from the Mark Brown era.

And just think, they got all of those wins and all of those yards running your favorite offense: the wing-t.

The St. X run game has not been good for a very long time. It will be incumbent upon the new coach and his staff to make some progress in that regard. I think this regression has been caused by the lack of development or emphasis on offensive linemen and the lack of importance placed on the run game. I am not saying that "3-yards-and-a-cloud-of-dust" is the answer, but a return to physical play on offense matched with a balanced, complimentary passing game is necessary.

Time will tell, but, overall, I think this is a good hire even though I had hoped for Chris Wolfe. He seems to bring much-needed "juice" to the program. He seems to come from a defensive background, so it will be interesting to see what happens on the offensive side of the ball in the future. Improvements really need to be made in the running game and the development of offensive linemen.

Private schools can set up their stipends as they wish and not publish them.

My point is that they can quit coaching, keep their teaching jobs, lose very little pay and still make a good living. Why put up with the things they have to put up with for very little financial benefit?

JCPS coaching stipend pay is a joke. I know high school coaches do not do it for the money, but they should at least be fairly compensated as compared to surrounding areas.

I hope whomever the coach is brings in his own systems on both sides of the ball. A fresh start is needed.

The defense is already lost. It has certainly not performed up to snuff in the playoffs in recent years.

I would be fine if some or all of the assistants stayed. That does not mean that the scheme stays. Whether or not the head coach calls the offensive plays or the defenses, the schemes should be implemented and approved by the head coach. That is why Wolfe appeals to me as head coach. He has an offensive and defensive scheme. While he may let someone else call stuff during the game, the scheme is his. Nick Saban had defensive coordinators. Do you think he just let someone come in and run whatever defense they wanted? No. He may have given them some autonomy, but it was his defense. As it should have been. All schemes are ultimately the responsibility of the head coach no matter who makes the calls in the games.

You are correct about the defensive coordinator. However, Wallace was the offensive coordinator. The offensive line coach is a teacher in the school.

I would prefer a change in defensive scheme and strategy whether the current assistants are kept or not.

Wolfe has a proven track record against the best teams in Jefferson County, including X and T. He knows the landscape. He is a proven commodity in the Louisville area. if someone is hired from outside Jefferson Co., they will have a learning curve. The football landscape in the Louisville area is different. I would guess that Coach Wallace would say the same thing about his transition to X. He is by no means old.

If St. X has an opportunity to hire Chris Wolfe and doesn’t, they are making a big mistake.

You guys did a good job on that podcast episode of letting the coach state his case. Keep up the good work.

OC will need to be able to play physical football to compete with Beechwood. If they can, they have a chance. This may be the premier matchup in the state this week regardless of class.
