What I really love about this year is that there really isn't a "powerhouse" team that stands way above the rest like last year It's nice to see other teams on lists that may not have been there in the past - like Scott! Gonna be an interesting finish to the year! Tons of matchups over the next couple of weeks that I am so excited to see.

:ohbrother: GEEZ! I'm a fan of NDA - and Morgan in particular! BUT I think it's risky to think that ANY team can't be beaten by a team that may be considered the underdog. Just because it hasn't happened, doesn't mean that it won't. That's why we love this game like we do!

I can't speak for Cooper, but in our case my AD has asked to play 3/5 but NDA always insists on 2/3. I think NDA has a new AD this year, so maybe that will change in the future. I guess I just object to your statement because we all know that in this game, you can never guarantee what will happen and on any given night. Even a team as good as NDA can drop a match to a "mismatched" team. I'm sure the Cooper girls were excited to at least take one from them! Not a lot of teams can say that...

The AD with NDA always sets up the matches with the public schools as 2/3. Our team has never played NDA 3/5 and we are in their region too. We have played a lot of teams 2/3 and it had nothing to do with a mismatch or "speeding up the inevitable." I'm sure there is reasoning behind why some are 3 and some are 5, but I would like to believe there is a little more science to it than your comment.

Were you at the game NKYVB? I wasn't there, but the people that I talked to that were at the game didn't make it sound so bad for Cooper? Maybe they were focused only on the 2nd game - which looks like it was pretty good!

Ryle does play St. Henry tonight at Ryle! It's going to be a great game!! Can't wait!!:clap:

I agree! On our team, we have a couple kids that technically live part of the week out of district. Their parents are divorced and one parent lives in district and one doesn't. It was the family's choice on what school they would attend. So to assume that people are "cheating" to be on a certain team is risky at best. You may not know all the circumstances in their family...

Every single position on the court is important! Unfortunately, you most likely won't hear about a Libero because they are technically only a 3 rotation player! I hate to think that just because a player is doing their job by ONLY passing well, they are not normally considered a candidate for POY. It's kinda the same for the middle hitters. You don't expect a L/DS to be the best hitter on the court so why would you expect a middle to be able to pass like a L/DS? They are doing the job that they are on the court to do - that is why we have specialized positions at this level of volleyball. Although I will agree that the middle hitters do get a lot more attention than DS/L because of the wow factor of a great block or an awesome kill! People who really know volleyball can appreciate the skill required for a perfect dig/pass, on defense...but the average fan just sees the end result of the kill. I hope that we can move past this mentality that "you aren't contributing to the team if you only play 3 rotations" If a girl is on the court doing what is asked of her consistently - then she is contributing to her team. We are missing out on recognizing some talented volleyball players if one of the major criteria for POY is how many spots she plays in the rotation. Maybe they should consider a (2) POY's - one for offense and one for defense?

I apologize for my post late last night, I didn't phrase it very well! Too late for an old bird to be on a computer! Anyway, I actually do agree with you! Shocker! In my head I was thinking that Ashley will be back soon and still has a lot of regular season and regionals/state to participate in! She shouldn't be penalized for not playing at the beginning of the year because of an injury. It's going to be a tough decision for "whomever" does the voting on this one! Both of these kids are amazing players, and more importantly awesome young adults with great families too!

IMO Ashley or Morgan deserve POY regardless of injuries. They are both impact players and leaders on the court who will both go on to amazing college careers. I do however disagree with your statement that POY shouldn't be a "3 rotation player". In Katie's case she is a middle and more often than not they don't play all the way around due to the huge amount of blocking and movement required for that position. (Normally the libero goes in for the middle.) When Katie is out of the game, there is a noticeable decline in their scoring and part of Coopers problem is she could possibly get stuck on the bench. Katie is quite capable of playing back row and has been recently due to some passing issues in their back row. In the 4-5 matches I have seen her play, she has had between 15-20 kills every match - with multiple serving aces, digs and blocks. I would say that she makes a huge impact when she is on the court. Cooper has also been using her to attack out I the back row as well which has given them another weapon in their offense. I honestly don't think she is POY material this year, but as a soph I think you may see her name at the top of a lot of lists in the future. IMO it will be Katie and Haley Bush as the standout players in this age group in the future.

If the above actually did happen, then it needs to be addressed. Although them sitting on the bench and drinking the players water is kinda funny! We played BB early in the season and the football team did show up for the match. However, they were a lot of fun and both sides got into a great cheering war! They were hilarious and our girls enjoyed their banter and comments! Never did I feel like anything they did was inappropriate. I wish our student section was as supportive of our girls! Congrats to BBHS on a great match!

I don't know where Stinson came from but she is a powerful hitter too! She seems not as confident in the back row but that will come with experience as well. Please don't discount what the rest of the team has done just because the star player isn't on the court. They were forced to make changes to the lineup and weren't as successful as they have been in the past. Players that may not have seen much varsity playing time stepped up and did really well! Ashley is amazing and a true leader on the court, but she can't play all 6 positions! She will be back soon and things will be back to normal - then we will see what Ryle does. They are always going to be one of the top teams in the area - great coaching at middle school/high school and excellent club experiences makes a significant difference. Cooper was the better team yesterday - regardless of who was or wasn't on the court. The Ryle/Cooper match up will be a game to see! No doubt about it! And I'm really looking forward to the Ryle/St. Henry game as well! Prayers go out to Chase and her family, as I am sure they are facing some tough decisions about her future volleyball career. It's so hard to see a kid like that go down when they live and breathe volleyball and work so hard to be the great player that Chase has become.

Anyone hear how the other NKY teams did this weekend? And what place did Ryle, Cooper and CC actually get?

They both stated their opinions and were wrong - in this case REALLY wrong! I thought that is what this forum was for? We are talking about teenage girls, and if you have one, you know how unpredictable they can be! You never know which one will crawl out of bed that morning. Cooper just didn't get it done last night. Sounds like Cooper has a lot of work to do if they want to be the team that some people on this forum think they are! Congrats to St. Henry! It was a great win for them and I think they could do great things this year.

I wasn't able to make it to the game tonight, but heard from both sides/parents that defense was lacking on Cooper side and SH was flawless in the back! Heard Cooper's setter spent most of the night trying to stay out of the net? Could just be a little setback or a sign of deeper issues in the Cooper lineup...but hope they are able to re-group for the weekend. Would still like to see a NKY team take out some of the big teams down south - don't really care who it is!

IMO - It's just unhealthy for the kids to be playing in that type of heat and humidity!

I think they will be fine against NCC and CCHS, but may have some challenges with Ryle and NDA. I haven't seen Scott play so can't really comment on that match up. In the SK/Cooper scrimmage I would say that SK came out on top! They were blocking the Cooper OH's really well and Cooper was unable to adjust. So who knows? An injury to a key person like a setter can unsettle even the best of teams. Hoping that everyone recovers and returns to action soon.

So if you want to beat NDA, just shut down Hentz? Is that even possible?
