Highlands 3 Simon Kenton 2 (25-15, 17-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-13)

Highlands beats Simon Kenton 3-2. Simon Kenton seemingly having problems. They barely beat Conner and lost to Highlands, is this this the same caliber Simon Kenton team we've seen in previous years?

Wow...I'd call this quite an upset!! I was at the Conner/SK match & SK looked good enough to win, but not great. Conner is a young team & they are definitely much better than they have been the last couple years. Of course, it helps when your setter just happens to bethe daughter of one NKY's finest coaches!!

They have a lot of talent and will be fine; just off to a slow start following an impressive preseason. They did lose a person from their preseason rotation to injury and I believe a couple of other girls are a little banged up right now. To answer the original question, is this the same caliber team? Absolutely; I would say that it could be their best team in recent memory-could is the operative word.

I would say that it could be their best team in recent memory.

Reasons?

How will they fare against NCC, Ryle, NDA, Scott, Campbell County, and Cooper?

I think they will be fine against NCC and CCHS, but may have some challenges with Ryle and NDA. I haven't seen Scott play so can't really comment on that match up.

In the SK/Cooper scrimmage I would say that SK came out on top! They were blocking the Cooper OH's really well and Cooper was unable to adjust. So who knows? An injury to a key person like a setter can unsettle even the best of teams. Hoping that everyone recovers and returns to action soon.

I think they will beat NCC, Scott & Campbell Co. It's possible to beat Ryle, NDA & Cooper but they need to have a strong hitting game with very little errors especially serving!! Coach Atwood will have them ready no doubt!!

To be frank, cooper played with different lineups against sk in their scrimmage. The first game with the starting varsity lineup, they reached 25 first. It was 25-11. The other sets saw flashes of brilliance from SK but in a real match, I don't see them beating cooper and Ryle.

When SK plays a legitimate team that is firing on all cylinders, I don't think they can keep up. They just aren't deep enough. You can't rely on one outside hitter to get the job done. They will have off days. Clearly SK is in a slump right now but I do see them coming out from it and making it to regionals. The only team in the region I believe will beat them is Scott. The eagles look surprisingly strong this year. They lost a hard fought 4 set match to Ryle.

Scott is not in SK's Region. Oldham County is defending champ and team to beat again. North Oldham the other strong team.

My bad. I got mixed up. Oldham county is pretty good. Heard North Oldham got a new coach and maybe isn't as good as last year. Both could be possible losses for SK. I use the word "possible" very loosely. Who knows what could happen, SK could turn around.

I just remember seeing somewhere that last year was supposed to be SK's year, they were all set up to win the Region at home and then got upset in the semi's. Last year SK lost to Ryle, Cooper, NDA, beat NCC, spilt with Scott, and went 2-1 against Camels. I don't see how they are going to improve on that against those teams this year. But playing them will make SK better when it's time to play teams in the 8th.

When SK has all players firing on all cylinders, they are very good!! It's just a matter of getting everyone in sync & Coach Atwood can pull that out of them!! They have all the parts just need to put it all together consistently!!
