  1. Heres the difference to me... It was said bakers speed wasnt going to be a factor in between the tackles while i agree straight line speed thats true he has a whole lot more going for him than just that. He will easily be the most explosive player Raceland will see. Your not recuited to D1 school bc you can run in a straight line pretty fast. Its his vision and ability to plant a foot in the ground and go. Thats by no means a knock on Raceland. Plus he has been reported to put on some muscle weight. Its hard to square up a hit on a guy like Baker. All that being said 1 guy cant beat a team but all I can go on is what I have seen in the 1 game Raceland has played. 11 is a very good RB hard to bring down. Racelands OL is a very good unit for a high school team. All 5 are solid which is unusual. The success passing that Raceland had imo was due to more scheme than talent. So I look at Raceland as more of a grind it out team than years past. I look for them to be a 6-4 7-3 team this year. Nothing wrong with that. As far as the lofty expectations of "little brother" the regular season record if im right wont keep them from Bowling Green as long as they dont allow it. Ashland, Valley, West, Russell and ill throw my Musketeers in there, thats a pretty daunting schedule for a smaller school.
  2. Of course they did... Its what any school would do.
  3. Just bc one person says something one time doesn't make them "known" as said thing.
  4. Ashland 49 Raceland 28 And btw having played at greenup when greenup was realitive I never heard anybody refer to Raceland as "little brother". Never really thought much about the Raceland game. We just beat them shook their hands and moved on.
  5. As they should be. Good players and a great staff has that effect on a program. Lol. I by no means am ready to put greenup on russells level but I do believe they can be for one night.
  6. Greenup definitely needs to improve throwing the ball if thats something that they are going to utilize this season. Hunt over threw the ball which he wont get by with so easily against a much more athletic team this week. Greenup can match Russells athleticism. To me it comes down to one thing; Can we block Russell? Definitely gonna have to be a lot more physical up front this week!
  7. Agree that the first two scores were all but handed to Greenup but they also had a td called back dropped a wide open pass in the endzone on a 4th and 8 and had it inside the Lewis Co 5 and didn't punch it in. Score could've been a lot worse. Greenups defense can keep them in any game this year. Russell is a very good football team but I dont see this as a blowout.
  8. Great job muskies! Alot of things to sure up before next week but a great way to start the season.
  9. Greenup has been in the spread the whole game. Coach mullins says he wants to be more explosive rather than the 3 yards and a cloud of dust as of recent years. Running the ball very well out of it Hunt still has a way to go developing as a passer but seems capable.
  10. Lewis is pretty bad... Greenups defense has been very good with the exception of one long pass that was a jump ball.
  11. Would you like to share? Nobody is out for the Lewis Co game due to suspension?
  12. Im hoping we see more of the spread this year... Hunt is a good athlete and throws the ball pretty well. I also expect big things from jake wright. Kid can fly!
  13. Its wayyy to true also. Im obviously a gc supporter however i also understand completely why kids have left. You can't fault anyone for bettering their self. Greenup has been a broken program for about 10 yrs now however it does seem on the rise as of now. Its takes everyone involved to build a solid program. Support of the school and of the parents is something greenup has lacked for a while. That is a major reason russell and raceland are so successful. Another thing they have in common is a great coaching staff and football programs at the pee wee level. If any school can develop a solid structure that those two teams have youd be surprised at how much talent you actually have. Im guessing that these reasons are exactly why coach maynard left greenup when he did.
  14. Greenup has the athletes, its gonna be a matter of whether the line can hold up all year and get enough push to execute their scheme.
  15. With the skill players returning and a solid defense gotta go with Greenup. My only question marks are at the line of scrimmage.
  16. I'd be willing to bet 99% of the schools in the state has at least 1 kid on their team experimenting with something... As far as saying that is the culture at Greenup, how do you know? Let's not condemn a whole team for the actions of a few. As bad as drugs are in this area is there any wonder that these things are happening. It's sad.
  17. There are a couple reasons I can think of for the drop off. The year after I graduated in 04' Alot of wurtland kids started going to raceland. Some may have went to Russell and other area schools but Raceland probably gets the majority of them. Greenuphas not really done anything to help itself out either... Raceland, Ashland, Russell they all have a great support system (boosters, parents, administration etc). You combine the loss a few athletes here and there with poor coaching and this is what you get. It's hard to put blame on the coaching giving what I just said about the lack of support in the community but it is a contributing factor. I don't know much about the current staff or even who is on Mullins staff but I can say the team is at least playing with a chip on its shoulder now. Dudley Hilton could have walked in the administration office and begged to take over at Greenup and they wouldn't give him the time of day bc Greenup don't want to pay anybody.
