Cooper/Conner predictions
I was very happy with Cooper's performance tonight!! They looked like the team I boasted about early in the season!! They wanted & needed this win bad!!! I was disappointed when I heard Atwood would be out with an injury & thought they may pull the libero to set. I've seen Bolter as libero & she is a beast on the back row!!! It showed tonight how important she is on that backrow because Conner had no defense tonight. I, too was impressed with her setting skills as well. She can jump out of the gym, strong hitting & blocking, just all around good player!!! No team can win without defense & hopefully Conner will get Atwood back so they can get their defense back!!! Congrats to the Lady Jags!!! Keep it up!!!

Cooper/Conner predictions
You are the 2nd person I've heard mention Cooper looks "tired"!! By this point in the season, I would think teams would be in good condition but maybe there is such a thing as "too many" tourney games!! I hear Conner will be without Atwood at setter, so I think Cooper has to win this one or some will never let them live it down!!! With Atwood, Conner might have played with Cooper but not sure who they have as backup?! I think the libero set part time last year but from what I've seen they can't afford to pull her off of backrow for defense!!

Cooper/Conner predictions
Anyone care to make a prediction on who will win this 33rd District matchup tomorrow night at Cooper? I'd like to say Cooper, but they seem to be stuck in a rut lately!! Conner seems to be a team that has talent but doesn't actually believe in themselves. If both teams are mentally in the game playing at 100%, it will be a battle at the net with Cooper taking the advantage. Conner is strong blocking, the libero has great passing, quickness & covers the blocks/tips very good, so defensively better than Cooper, but Cooper has multiple strong hitters which makes Cooper offensively better!! Either way it should be a great game to watch!!

September Slam Friday/Saturday
Thanks for the scores Dozer61!! With the exception of the humidity in the gym (I am aware this is out of anyones control!!), Scott hosted another great September Slam!! I felt the talent was evenly matched which led to some great action on the floor!! I thought the Scott players did an excellent job today even though they did lose the final to Oldham Co. It was a hard fought game from both teams!! I was also impressed with both Boone Co and Conner on the other court playing. Both teams were battling hard with Boone taking the first 25-22 and Conner winning the second 25-13. It looked as though Conner would win the third 15-6, but the game continued to 25 with Boone edging out Conner 27-25. I know there was quite a bit of controversy from Conner's bench & fans since this was the first 3rd game match to go to 25 the entire tourney!! I'll give Conner that fact but assume the coaches knew the game was playing to 25 prior to the game starting so can't complain after the fact!! It also looks like Conner's setter was injured in the last play of the game, so prayers for healing to Atwood!! I saw a lot of great plays made from both teams & there were quite a few long rallies!! I do have to mention a play that coaches love to see especially when you tell your players constantly to play until you hear the refs blow the whistle!! In one of the many long rallies, Conner's libero managed to hit the ball up & over the net right before the ball touched the floor. It dropped untouched on Boone's side with Boone players & fans caught cheering unaware the play had not ended...point Conner!!! Those type of plays are so rare, but always a reminder to never give up on the ball or start cheering too soon!! Both Boone Co. & Conner have multiple talented players that you can't just focus on one area of the game. They have hitters from every position, smart setters that can hit with the best, liberos that move & sacrifice for balls many would give up on & servers that make you pay for thinking it was out before it hits!!! I know Boone showed Cooper what guts & hustle will do!! Conner could do the same just hope they have Atwood back setting for them that night!!! Thanks to Scott high school for a very exciting & entertaining tourney!!! Can't wait for Highlands Cake Classic!! (I have to get my volleyball fix at these things since the grandkids picked the other Fall sport...soccer!!)

Scott 2 Conner 0 (25-13 25-20)
This wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be between these 2 teams. The Lady Eagles dominated from the start. I figured since these 2 teams played great against Ryle they'd be an even match, but that wasn't the case. Scott's Kallmeyer & Tapp gave Conner fits all night hitting around the block & driving the ball into every gap Conner left open. Just an all-around smart offensive team tonight. Scott's only weakness tonight was blocking, but the hitting & serving more than made up for that!! They're a fun team to watch play because they work so well as a team. Congrats to the Lady Eagles & looking forward to the September Slam this weekend!!

Point taken! And so you know a little about me, I am a certified former KY/OH official for volleyball and basketball. I know both games very well & I am also very aware of key players for teams. I do not argue that Ashley Bush is a huge missing piece for Ryle so far this season however I do not feel it is necessary to mention that every time Ryle doesn't exceed expectations!! As a NDA fan, you should remember that NDA did not feel they needed to remind everyone that Heidi Thelen was out last year, so that may have caused them to look a bit different than in previous years. In my opinion, by constantly pointing out key players missing, it takes away from the hard work & strong play from those players forced to step up!! Stinson from Ryle played an amazing game the night I saw her play vs Conner. She has a strong serve & a very strong hit. Both Butler sisters made strong blocks, hits & serves, but where is that in any of the headlines?? Why is no one complaining about that part of the story being left out? Every time an excuse is made as to a key player's absence, it takes away from the great effort of the bench players who have stepped up!! The truth is that once Ashley is back, Ryle will be the top team people imagined, but it won't solely be because they have their key player back. It will be because Tasha developed bench players to carry the team in positions that might not have been their specialty while Ashley was out!! At the end of the day, the scoreboard only shows who won and who lost. It doesn't show who played & who didn't. The better team of that night wins & if the losing team happens to be missing a star player or 2, it's called bad luck & not an excuse!!!

Unbelievable!! :ohbrother: I add the disclaimer & some still find another excuse as to why the score wasn't in Ryle's favor!! To be honest, the Ryle players & coaches aren't using excuses. They accept the loss because everyone knows you learn something from it!! They knew there would be something missing with A. Bush out & they adapted. Other players stepped up & have done a great job of hitting for Ryle but do you hear anything about that? I feel sorry for those players like the Butler sisters & Stinson who have done amazing while missing A. Bush! Luckily Ryle has a coaching staff that doesn't run on excuses, something Ryle fans should take note of!! There is a reason coaches have more than 6 players on a team!! There is always a "backup" for each position for this exact reason. A good team will adapt & given the majority of these players needing to step up are underclassmen, that should be promising as far as Ryle's future is concerned!! So stop saying everyone doesn't know the whole story because we do know!! We all know A.Bush is out and to be honest Barber has been questionable on whether she played or not since Bluegrass games. The fact she wears headgear & still manages to sustain another head injury (#4 that I know of) is extremely scary!!

I'm not 100% on how everyone finished as far as place, but as far as I know Cooper was the only NKY team to actually win more than 1. Boone lost both games Friday night, CC lost all 3 on Saturday, Ryle won Friday night but lost all 3 Saturday, SK lost Friday then again Saturday. Cooper won both games on Friday and finished 2-2 Saturday losing to Henry Clay & McCracken Co.

Campbell County at BGIT
What I want to know is why take shots at my posts when I am not the one bringing up the drama in the first place? Yes I made an comment about an observation I had as an official last year regarding CC but only AFTER another mentioned what they saw on this year's team and people insisted that what was seen never happened!! I saw CC play this weekend & once again I said I hoped this issue gets fixed because they are a talented team. At no point have I made any negative comments about the players or the coaches!! I said that the apple doesn't fall far from the tree because making a big deal over someone pointing out a problem that has absolutely nothing to do with talent & everything to do with attitude is a learned behavior so if a player or more than one player seems to have an attitude problem I say look at the parent!! I have & will continue to hope that whatever the issue is that is effecting the performance of CC is addressed and fixed because again like I have said multiple times now, this team has talent & deserves to have another successful season!!! For you to continue to go after my posts & my opinion is pointless because I'm not the guy spreading any dirt about CC!!!

And I was there to see Cooper beat both Ryle (25-17, 25-20) and then CC (25-7, 25-15). Both games were thoroughly entertaining!!!

Campbell County at BGIT
Why don't you read the posts at the beginning of this thread again. You will see that it was not me that pointed this problem out & it was also not me that mentioned all of KBA could see the problem! I was the one that said I hope it is addressed & fixed soon because CC has the talent! I have nothing against CC, but I can see what the problem may be if people get this stirred up with the least bit of criticism!! Guess the apple doesn't fall far from the tree??
-
Campbell County at BGIT
Sure hope someone decides to quit ignoring or pretending the problem doesn't exist & snowballs out of control. CC has the talent but it won't matter if the problem isn't fixed sooner than later!!

Hmmm....I do believe it was mentioned in a different thread that there were absolutely zero problems with attitudes of players, parents or coaches so you must be mistaken!:lol2:

I hear you!! Its a tough call but look at all the controversy in pro sports with the side effects of multiple concussions!! At 16, there is a lot of life left to live & to risk more injury to your brain just isn't worth it in my book. She wears protective headgear & still potentially could have yet another concussion?? Time for an adult to step up. Just research the long lasting signs & symptoms of young people suffering more than one concussion. It is very scary!!
-
BGIT
She does wear headgear & this is at least concussion #4!!! Concussions are nothing to joke around with & considering we're talking about a 16yr old young lady's multiple head injuries, someone somewhere needs to look at the benefits vs the risks!!

Cooper beats Ryle 25-17, 25-20....Congrats to the Lady Jags & Coach Isaac!! These ladies played with extreme confidence & power. I'm happy they were able to bounce back after a frustrating loss to St.Henry the other night. I'm going to make sure I add to this before a Ryle fan gets angry that it wasn't included in the headlines...A. Bush did not play due to injury!! (Count the number of times this fact is mentioned whenever Ryle loses a game until A.Bush is on the court again!!) I want to also wish A.Bush a speedy recovery so she can dominate the court & help Ryle quit with the excuses!!! She is not only a great player but also an amazing young lady!! I imagine she is chomping at the bit to get back on the court to help her team!!!
-
Ryle beats Conner 29-27 25-14 25-23
I also mentioned that once A. Bush was back playing, Ryle could be unstoppable!! So my guess is someone just didn't like the fact that Conner can play with the top teams!!! Last time I checked there were more than just 4 teams in the 9th Region, but you go ahead and believe that its impossible for anyone to topple those 4 teams!!
-
Ryle beats Conner 29-27 25-14 25-23
I don't believe I was saying Conner will win 9th Region? No one talks about Conner because Conner hasn't been a real tough volleyball program however this isn't the typical Conner team. If people are going to constantly use the "Best player didn't play" excuse every time a team plays them close then so be it!! That was same excuse as to why Scott took 1 when they played! Ryle has plenty of real talent that is playing & those girls don't deserve having what they did on the court not count as important because the best player didn't play!! People that use excuses are obviously not 100% confident whether a parent or player!! I'm pretty sure everyone of BGP already knew A.Bush was injured & not playing so I didn't feel I needed to remind anyone!!
-
Ryle beats Conner 29-27 25-14 25-23
The recent games like CC over NCC & Highlands over SK...games that were a lot closer than most people felt they would be. I guarantee Ryle thought Conner would be a quick 3 game slaughter that they could give their bench players more playing time and that definitely wasn't the case. These type of games make the end of season tourneys more exciting!!
-
Ryle beats Conner 29-27 25-14 25-23
I was there & HOLY COW!!! This is the 2nd game I've seen Conner play & they are no joke!! They are a young team but not the same Conner people are used to. At one point in the 1st, Conner was leading Ryle 17-9 & Ryle was in complete shock. Ryle can say they played bad & that's why it was close, but Conner's defense was a big surprise. Once Ryle got passed the shock, their maturity level is what beat the young Lady Cougars. I was very impressed with Conner's libero, setter & MH (I know the setter is the daughter of SK's coach but not sure on names of the other 2 since the announcer seemed to have trouble naming all the players on both teams!) Ryle is very good, very strong & once A. Bush is back, they may be unstoppable!! If Conner can get stronger offensively & work on their hitting, they will turn a few NKy heads!! Congrats to Ryle for the win!! All these close games & upsets are setting up a very interesting 9th Region tourney!!

Campbell County 3 Newport Central Catholic 1
Everyone sees what they want to see!! I'm not a disgruntled parent, in fact I don't have a volleyball player in the house but I am a former official & can say with certainty, there WAS an attitude problem on last year's team! Maybe not this year, but when it was mentioned earlier in the thread, I felt I needed to mention my observation!! Hopefully Curry has things in check this year & these girls make another trip to State. They have the talent!!
-
Highlands 3 Simon Kenton 2 (25-15, 17-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-13)
When SK has all players firing on all cylinders, they are very good!! It's just a matter of getting everyone in sync & Coach Atwood can pull that out of them!! They have all the parts just need to put it all together consistently!!
-
Campbell County 3 Newport Central Catholic 1
Can't say anything about this game, but I was at multiple CC games last year & have witnessed the attitudes more than once. They have the talent to win but what I saw was players yelling at each other with eye rolling & arguing with the coach during timeouts. It can totally be frustration & I get that, but there is also some respect & self control as well. No team can be great by tearing down teammates or making players feel inferior. If CC can control their attitudes & build each other up rather than tear each other apart, they could make another trip to State because they have the talent to get there with!!
-
Highlands 3 Simon Kenton 2 (25-15, 17-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-13)
I think they will beat NCC, Scott & Campbell Co. It's possible to beat Ryle, NDA & Cooper but they need to have a strong hitting game with very little errors especially serving!! Coach Atwood will have them ready no doubt!!
-
Highlands 3 Simon Kenton 2 (25-15, 17-25, 23-25, 25-19, 15-13)
Wow...I'd call this quite an upset!! I was at the Conner/SK match & SK looked good enough to win, but not great. Conner is a young team & they are definitely much better than they have been the last couple years. Of course, it helps when your setter just happens to bethe daughter of one NKY's finest coaches!!
