I would say it is rare for a big school like Cooper to start two freshman. I think you see that more in smaller schools. The freshman must be pretty good at their position or there is reasons/ issues behind the lineup. I was at a couple of their games and I was surprised by some of the names that were on the bench.

Does a team need a win that bad to throw a kid 150 pitches? Doesn't seem too smart.

What a game in Florence tonight. Second game in a row for Boone to go extra innings. This time Boone finished on the good side.Friend was on the mound for Cooper and Purnell for Boone. Both starters worked well tonight. It was a low hitting affair. Friend goes 7 innings allowing only 2 hits. Hawthorn comes in the 8th walks a batter and T. Works hits the winning RBI. Purnell goes 8 innings, allowed only 2 hits and 1 walk striking out 11. No errors by either team.

Didn't Beechwood just play in the Super Preps? They most likely saw velocities in the mid 80's or better and then see 50's, they are lucky they had grounders and not k's

The hot topic of this game would be the strikezone set by the plate umpire. Numerous pitches no where close to the strikezone were called strikes. Fans behind the plate said they saw balls 6-9 " off the plate called strikes. It went both ways, so at least it was equal for both teams, but this kept the offense quiet for both teams. Great day to be a pitcher. *******Reminder to parents, trade the ice scraper for sun block *******

What teams besides Highlands went South ? I think the Sping Break trips are great for team bonding and gives them a little jump on other local teams who sit watching mud dry. Hopefully, Very Hugh lapse of good judgement by some of the Dirty Birds doesn't have Highlands giving up on such a great early season trip.

Also should be mentioned, great defense in the outfield for Boone. Dahms and Works had excellent plays tonight

The Purnell and Ziegelmeyer match up fizzled after 1st. Inning when Ziggy leaves game w/ leg injury. Both teams had a sloppy 1st w/ each team giving up unearned runs. Per PBR , Purnell picks up the win w 4 innings of work . Allowed 2 runs( none earned) on 1 hit and 3 k's. Boone offense was a team effort again with the whole team getting in the action. Nathan Davis entered in the fifth and picked up the save. Hopefully , Ziegelmeyer's injury is minor and will be back on the field soon.
