  1. Clyde, Highlands did do what was needed to get the job done. Boone needs to get out of the offensive slump and put some pressure on the other pitchers. With all of the other talk, I forgot to mention the great job the announcer did. I think that was the best announcer I have heard at any high school game. Great Job!!!!
  2. So when do they flip the coin to see who is 2nd, 3rd or 4th in district? Who pitched for Cooper?
  3. I'm not familiar with Collins. Was this a district game?
  4. Even thou I voted for the Hall of Famer in his political portion of his life, I would have to disagree on his assessment of Purnell's composure. Besides a ball getting away from him and drilling #20 , which is probable going to leave a mark and looked harder than 85, and a few balls in the dirt, nothing pointed to composure loss for the fans that know him. If he lost his composure, your radar gun would have hit closer to 90. I was a little shocked they didn't use his curve ball or slider more. Good hitting teams will catch up with the fastball and make some kind of contact. Most of the batters were behind him and it showed with most of the hits going to the 1st base side of the 4 hole except for the HR and a nice bunt in the second. I for one, kept hoping the Rebels would have adjusted for the late swings and closed the hole. Defensive adjustments and take away a few bad calls could have slowed down the big blue wrecking crew. Highlands is definitely a nice hitting club. Best hitting team Boone faced all year, good luck to rest of their season and maybe we get another chance to even it out.
  5. Rebels traveled to Ft Thomas to play the Birds who were coming off a short losing streak and the Birds came out playing like they had something to prove. Bunning on the hill for the Birds and Purnell on the hill for the Rebels. In the first, Birds strike first with a 2 run shot. Didn't realize how short the RF and CF fence was. In the second inning for the Birds, Highlands had multiple hits ,combined w/ a error and some questionable calls on a foul ball down third and a force out at second set the Birds up for a big inning. After the 3rd, both teams started getting bench players into the game. Bunning did a good job with his off speed to get the Rebels swinging early. The Rebels left the hill still trying to fight their way out of an offensive slump. Bunning picks up the win and Purnell leaves the game after two innings and takes his first loss of the season. I guess, Like I seen somewhere, It was just a scrimmage! LOL
  6. Low hitting affair again with good pitching and a very inconsistent strike zone. A pitchers best friend is the ump who gives you the strike on a 3-2 count with a pitch several balls wide out of the zone. Boone had 4 errors for the day in the field and had costly base running mistakes which squashed any offensive threat.
  7. I would say they are the Aces for each team. I really don't know their depth. What I have been looking for is how the Birds would fair against some of the better teams w/ that team's ace on the mound. I think the birds win percentage odds get better as their team and their opponents go deeper into their rotations. Bottom line is that a team needs to get past that first game to bring pitching depth into the mix.
  8. I was hoping to see games where the Birds played more of the top teams like Cov Cath or Dixie's aces or Beechwood w/ Fieger. The Ryle game, I bet was early in the season. I don't know if I would want to face Ziegelmeyer late in the season.
  9. What I mean is that the Bird's # 3 and #4 are most likely a step above the rest of the fields' #3 and #4 . Their #1 and #2 against one of the other top teams 1&2's are more evenly matched, so it will come down to which team can pull some hits together and who has the best defensive game. I know there is a lot of talk on how deep their pitching staff is, but I think Highlands success has been due to some strong bats. Can someone's ace quiet them ?, who knows. Thats why they play the game. I think I seen that the Bird's are undefeated against local talent. How many of the top 10 in NKY have they played and have any of the games been against the others Ace?
  10. I think Highland's pitching depth gives them a definite advantage on the third game, a little edge on the second game, but based on who they get in the first round, it might be more of which Birds gets the key hits.
  11. 33rd district has been throwing a twist into the tourney the last couple of years. Looking to do it again.
  12. When we used the portable mounds in the Boone parks, we always raked dirt around the edges and never had that problem.
  13. Boone goes undefeated in district play. If Conner beats Cooper, could be a 3 way tie w/ records of 1-2. Flip of a coin to determine 2nd,3rd, and 4th seed. No district is tougher in NKY.
  14. What game for Highlands was their lowest offensive game?
  15. I have noticed the lock symbol on thread titles? What are these tags used for. It looks like Cov Cath has them on threads with their name. Is this used to make it easier to look up info on team which has tagged threads with their name in it?
  16. Actually, A Conner win would make it a 3 way tie at 1-2. Get the coin out!
  17. Sorry for the duplicate thread, could someone combine threads.
  18. Boone gets the trifecta on district games. Ostertag was on the hill for Conner, with Purnell on the mound for Boone. I think both starters were over pumped the first inning. Ostertag was staying high and Purnell was keeping it low. I think the ump behind the plate made them work harder than needed. Second inning on, both pitchers got in their groove. Ostertag goes 5 innings, w' Craddock in for relief. Purnell goes 6 and gets his 3rd district win for the season and Faehr comes in the 7th to get the save. Boone capitalized on walks and errors to get their runs. Boone won the game with no hits and Conner had 3 hits. Both teams had a couple of errors. What is tha old saying, " walks are good as a hit". Tonight that stands true. Conner has Cooper left on their district schedule, a win could give Conner a tie w/ Ryle at 1-2. The 33rd district tourney is going to be one of the toughest again. District Games] Boone 3 -0 Cooper 1-1 Ryle 1-2 Conner 0-2
  19. It was nice to see some uncommitted seniors from each team getting some attention from some college coaches in attendance.
