Did you ever think about this? It takes light about 1.3 seconds to travel from the moon to the Earth, about 8 minutes for light to reach us from the Sun, and about 4.2 years to reach the Earth from the second nearest star, Proxima Centauri. So, when you look up and see the moon you are seeing it as it was 1.3 seconds in the past. Likewise, when you look at objects even much closer to you, you may not think about it but you are still seeing those objects as they WERE. Everything we observe is already in the past. Nothing we see is in the present. If you are at courtside watching a basketball play that is , say, 10 ft. away from you, you are seeing the action as it occurred some 1/100,000,000 of a second prior. Pretty impressive that the Redhounds win over a really good Harlan County team with over 30 pts/games and a dozen boards a game sitting in street clothes on the bench. I would lobby to voters that Corbin shouldn't drop much in the poll because of the South Laurel loss. South is tough at home and Corbin was handicapped with 2/5 of its starting lineup sitting out due to suspension. With 6' 8" , 300 lb. Bailey Rice finally healthy enough to log significant minutes and guard Brody Barton returning from a torn ACL, the Redhounds and their Mr. Basketball candidate look to be poised for a deep run in March!!!

Saw Harlan County last night. They lost to a short-handed Corbin team but the Black bears looked good at times. Creech, Simmons, and Pace are all really nice players. There are five teams that can possibly win the 13th, and Harlan County is one of the five.

I don't know if you folks ever do this but I do. I will ponder what the Earth will like maybe 10,000 , 100,000 , 1 million , or a even a billion yrs in the future. I will stand in my yard, or wherever I am at the moment, and imagine being instantly transformed a billion years into the future. What would I see? Would the Earth even be recognizable? it's hard to even fathom a billion years into the future. Many of us have been on Earth maybe 40 or 50 years. A billion years is 20 million times as long as most of us have lived on Earth. What would you see if you suddenly found yourself transported to 1,000,002,018 A.D. ? One thing's for sure, you better be wearing protective eyewear and gear. The sun will be much brighter and much hotter. Temps will be in excess of 160 degrees Fahrenheit, maybe close to 212 . Don't expect to quench your thirst by drinking from a refreshing spring or stream. You won't find any water; the sun has seen to that. If you didn't know you were on Earth, you would think you were on some alien planet...hot, parched, unrecognizable. What a difference a billion years can make...

I know I've mentioned this before, but it's only a matter of time before an asteroid or comet does us in. It won't likely be in any of our lifetimes but it's coming. An asteroid or comet will probably do us in long before the sun goes red giant and scorches the planet bare.

Corbin wins despite still being without two-fifths of their starting lineup , accounting for over 30 pts a game. The difference maker tonight was big Bailey Rice. The big 6 ft 8 , 300+ lb. grotesque freak of a mountainous man-child had 13 pts. in seeing his first significant minutes of the season. The big man, coming off a football injury has the foot work and dexterity of a guy 5' 8" . His presence could potentially take the Redhounds, when at full strength, to another level. Chandler Stewart, who was honored before the game for reaching 1,000 pts. in his career, scored 26 pts. tonight for the Red Dogs, who improved to 14-4. Corbin has won two of three games without their two suspended starters, Cameron Maguet and Mr. Basketball candidate Andrew Taylor. Harlan County, now 15-3 on the season, placed three players in double figures. Creech led the way with 19, followed by Simmons with 14 and Pace with 10. Really good HS basketball game.
