Does anyone remember the Iron Sheik's "Camel Clutch" or Sgt. Slaughter's "Cobra Clutch" ?

From famed internet provocateur Mr. "Hoot Gibson" : John Calipari is the SGT Schultz of NCAA basketball. He knows nothing and is determined to keep it that way. The question is will UK become the third school to have NCAA tournament games vacated because of Coach Cal's professed "ignorance" of side benefits received by his recruits?

Final last night from Gilliam Gym in Corbin. Really good basketball game. Pretty close throughout. Corbin's biggest lead was nine in the fourth but South cut it to 2 at 55-53 late. Corbin scored the last six points for the final margin of victory. Both teams played very well. J.J. Ramey was exquisite. I only remember two shots of his hitting anything other then nylon. Ripped everything with Corbin defenders draped all over him. Without J.J.'s performance, this would have been a 20-point game in Corbin's favor. Everytime Corbin got a little distance between themselves and the Cards, J.J. would rip a couple of contested threes. What a treat it is to watch that kid!!! Corbin moved the ball much better in this one than in recent games. Taylor shared the ball and trusted his teammates more and they responded. Chase Sanders and Taylor Stewart both had really nice games and whenever Corbin needed a basket, Mr. Basketball candidate Taylor took it to the hole for a deuce. Both teams played terrific defense. Corbin did a really nice job on Cromer, who was pretty much held in check. The Hounds played their best game since dismantling Knox Central in mid-January. The Hounds are now 22-7 on the season. South Laurel, with Mr. Ramey, Cromer, and Anders will be a very, very tough opponent for whichever district champion they draw in the regional tournament.

I'm obviously rooting for the GRC Cardinals. That first round matchup between Pendleton and Paris is a delicious morsel. Potential second rounder between GRC and Campbell could be a dandy as well.

Konnan was a mean dude. Not real friendly to fans either.

Corbin fans know you are pulling for the Hounds and we absolutely appreciate your support.

Now, pretty much all the superstars have a big finishing move or a submission hold that they end a match with. Back during the old days, most wrestlers used some of the same finishes/submissions , although some had signature moves. As an old school guy, I always liked the sleeper hold. Vern Gagne was renowned for using it. Piper and Beefcake also put folks to sleep to win matches. Ronnie Garvin and the Mongolian Stomper were two old school guys that I remember making use of the sleeper hold. Flair won many matches with his Figure-Four Leg Lock. Paul Jones did a variation of the Figure -Four called the Indian Death Lock. Triple H also made use of this early in his career. "The Excellence of Execution," Bret Hart, did a variation called the "Ring Post Figure- Four" which was even more devastating. Bret's "Sharpshooter" including elements of both the Figure- Four and the Boston Crab. The Funk's, both Terry and Dory, Jr. , made use of the Spinning Toe Hold to finish matches. Bob Backlund's signature submission hold was the Crossface Chicken Wing. Remember when wrestlers would finish with a move called the "Airplane Spin" ? Put your opponent on your back and go around really fast in circles like little kids love to do to get dizzy. Blackjack Mulligan and Baron Von Rashke made use of the claw hold to finish off their opponents. Killer Kowalkski used the stomach claw. I always like how Flair did his souplex. He would hold the opponent high in the vertical position for what seemed like a full minute before finishing off the move. I always like the piledriver as well. I used that one a lot when us kids would wrestle in the backyard. One time it almost went terribly wrong and I never used it again. What are some of your favorite finishing moves or submission holds and the wrestlers who best executed them???

Boys and girls' teams BOTH miss the regional tourney. I wonder when that last happened?

Semifinal round from Oneida Baptist last night. Tough times at once powerful Clay Co. First time in 40 years that they don't advance to the regional. They finish the season below .500 . Consolation prize- they do get to "host" the regional at the Arena.

I'm sorry, my friend. I meant the Blue Hens should be ashamed. Been a busy morning. No team should lose a lead that large. I said the same thing about Dale Brown's team that blew a 31- point second half lead to UK. Bad coaching by Brown , imo. But kudos to UK and to Drexel in this one. They never quit.

If Corbin plays at their peak performance level, they win. If not, just flip a coin.

I think South has played the better ball the last three weeks. Hopefully, the Hounds can regain the mojo they had in the Knox Central game back in January.

I remember Tim Horner well. Used to watch him get the snot beat out of him all the time on World Championship Wrestling on WTBS. Terry Gibbs was another lonesome loser.

You're very welcome. He was a very good technical wrestler but also had great mike skills. He was very smart and liked to use his smarts to both insult and achieve a psychological advantage over an opponent.

You know your wrestling, my friend. LL was a terrific athlete, as was his brother. I think Macho even played in the Reds' minor league system.

Leaping Lanny Poffo was often considered a jobber. Many of you may remember him as "The Genius." Anyone know his family tree???

Jobber to the Stars. A guy who beats up the lowly jobbers and mid-card guys but consistently loses to the top talent. Zig(Dolph) would be the first guy that comes to my mind today that would be a JTTS.
