No big changes in this week’s rankings. Caldwell fell behind Christian County and there was some movement at the bottom of the rankings. Tournaments and weather affected play this week as the season begins to wind down. Here is week 7 rankings: 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#5 2018-19 record: 16-3 Week’s Record: 2-0 University Heights rebounded from their lost to Mayfield last week by easily winning the Region 2 All A Classic. They defeated Lyon County 86-63 and Livingston Central 78-56. Tandy led UHA in both game with 30 and 31 respectively. Next up is the All A State tournament where the Blazers have a real chance of winning, but will have plenty of good teams they may have to face (Newport, Danville, LCA, Mayfield, Walton-Verona). They will open against the Bishop Brossart/Paris winner. 2. Madisonville North Hopkins – Coach Matt Beshear 2018-19 record: 13-5 Week’s Record: 1-0 The Maroons extend their winning streak to six games as they defeated Paducah Tilghman 64-61 at home. They will face Owensboro and county rival Hopkins County Central this week. Depending on which Owensboro team shows up, it could be a tough matchup, and anytime rivals play each other anything can happen. 3. Hopkinsville – Coach Larry Miller 2018-19 record: 12-8 Week’s Record: 1-0 The Tigers defeated Northeast High out of Clarksville, TN 54-49. They had a game against Madison Central cancelled due to the weekend weather. That would have been a good measuring stick to how much the Tigers have improved. Instead that will come this week when they travel to Graves County and then host DuPont Manual. 4. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall 2018-19 record: 11-11 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Colonels had one of their busiest weeks of the season in playing four games, 3 of them at Scott County’s Toyota Classic. While hosting Bowling Green, the Colonels found themselves in a very physical game which was close through 2 quarters, but the Purples pulled away and won 72-55. In the Toyota Classic, Christian County lost their opener by one 57-56, then went on to defeat Christian Academy from Myrtle Beach and Wayne County. They will play games against Castle, IN and Dupont Manual this week. 5. Caldwell County – Coach Daniel Kukahiko 2018-19 record: 11-7 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Tigers trying to get back on track after losing 3 of 4 started well as they defeated Calloway County 71-63. Derrin Boyd scored 27 points in the win. Caldwell then travelled to Hopkins County Central where they should have had a pretty easy win, but instead they stumbled and ended up losing 67-66. Now they will take on Trigg Co. and Lyon Co. 6. Henderson County – Coach Tyler Smithhart 2018-19 record: 10-8 Week’s Record: 0-1 Henderson County lost their only game to Castle, IN 84-56. They hope to rebound as the travel to Union County and Webster County while hosting Daviess County. 7. Lyon County – Coach Jeff Embrey 2018-19 record: 12-7 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Lyons won their first game in the 2nd Region All A Classic against Crittenden County 61-41. Gabe Board led the Lyons with 17, Jackson Shoulders added 15 in the win. Then game BGP #5 University Heights in the championship game. Lyons played well, but just couldn’t hang falling 86-63. They will try to get back on track by playing Livingston Central, Caldwell County, and Dawson Springs this week. 8. Union County – Coach Shane Smith 2018-19 record: 8-6 Week’s Record: 1-0 Union County only were able to play Hardin County, IL this week defeating them 74-45. The other games were affected because of weather. This means the Braves have only played 1 game since Jan 5. We will see if this affects how they play in the future against Henderson County and Crittenden County. 9. Webster County – Coach Jon Newton 2018-19 record: 12-8 Week’s Record: 2-1 Webster played in the Ky 2A Sectional and State Classics. They were defeated by Glasgow 54-48 and then Knox Central 65-59. They will only play Henderson County this week as they attempt to get back on track after losing 4 of 6. 10. Hopkins County Central – Coach Lee James 2018-19 record: 8-9 Week’s Record: 3-0 Hopkins County had their best week of the year winning all three games they played. Muhlenberg County, Trigg County, and Caldwell County all fell to the Storm. They will try to extend that winning streak this week against Dawson Springs and Madisonville. 11. Livingston Central – Coach Chris Green 2018-19 record: 10-8 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Cardinals were able to defeat Dawson Springs 73-59 and lost to University Heights 78-56. They will host Lyon County and Christian Fellowship this week. 12. Dawson Springs – Coach Chad Burgett 2018-19 record: 7-11 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Panthers defeated Ft. Campbell 60-51 and Frederick Fraize 63-36, however they dropped a game to Livingston Central 73-59. 13. Crittenden County – Coach Denis Hodge 2018-19 record: 6-11 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Rockets lost to Lyon County by 20, but defeated Trigg County by 11. They will play CCA, Union Co and Fort Campbell this week. 14. Trigg County – Coach Payton Croft 2018-19 record: 7-13 Week’s Record: 1-2 Trigg County’s losing streak was extended to 8 as they lost to Hopkins county Central and Crittenden County, however they were able to snap that streak as they defeated Community Christian 57-31. 15. Fort Campbell – Coach Robbie Townsend 2018-19 record: 5-12 Week’s Record: 0-4 Tough week for the Falcons as they dropped all 4 games they played this week. The closest was a 60-51 loss against Dawson Springs. They will play Clarksville Academy (TN) and Crittenden County this week.

I agree to this. Just making the Sweet 16 is an accomplishment. Winning the state championship is very special. If we go to classes, I can see it becoming very much like football where its the same teams every year. An example would be region 2, UHA, Hopkinsville, and Christian County all battle for that title. They would most likely be in 3 different classes, and would go to the state pretty much every single year...waters down the competition.

Things finished up in the Region 1 All A Classic this week as Mayfield came out on top as expected. No real change in the rankings, however that could change as Graves County and McCracken meet this week to see who is on top. Marshall County and Tilghman play this week as well, which could have repercussions on the rankings. Here is the week 8 rankings: 1. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower BGP #11 2018-19 record: 4-3 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Mustangs went to Massac County, Illinois for the Superman Classic where they were the number 1 seed. In their first game they handily defeated Fort Campbell, 66-27. In their second game they were surprised by Charleston, MO 50-44. They rebounded nicely against Goreville, IL 53-47. McCracken plays 3 games this week, none bigger than when they travel to Graves County on Saturday. They lost at home by 11 points early in January, the only Kentucky team the Mustangs have lost to this season. 2. Graves County – Coach Joshua Frick 2018-19 record: 13-4 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Eagles also traveled to the Superman Classic where they were the number 3 seed Their first game was against Goreville, IL where they lost 65-55. This is an interesting game, because McCracken defeated Goreville by 6. They went on to defeat Vienna, IL by almost 30, and then defeated host Massac County 69-60. Graves has a tough schedule the rest of the month as they play host to Hopkinsville and McCracken County this week and travel to Calloway County, Paducah Tilghman, and Marshall County going into early February. 3. Mayfield – Coach Chris Guhy BGP #18 2018-19 record: 15-6 Week’s Record: 3-0 Mayfield is rounding into form at the right time of year. They had what looked like 2 easy games this week (CCA and Fulton Co.) and a tougher game against Murray in the Region 1 All “A” State Classic. It turned out to be 3 easy games as they defeated CCA by 38, Fulton Co by 24, and surprisingly Murray by 30. They will now move to the All A State Tournament where their first round game will be against Campbellsville. 4. Murray – Coach Dior Curtis 2018-19 record: 9-11 Week’s Record: 2-1 Murray was focused on the 1st Region All A Classic this week. The opened against Hickman County and defeated them 77-39. They faced a tougher challenge in the second round, Carlisle County. Hunter and Duffy scored 17 and 15 to lead the Tigers to a a 54-46 victory. This led them to the championship game against Mayfield. They only lost to Mayfield by 9 in late December and hoped for a closer game, but it wasn’t to happen as BGP #18 Mayfield manhandled the Tigers 79-49. . 5. Paducah Tilghman – Coach Roderick Thomas 2018-19 record: 9-8 Week’s Record: 0-1 Paducah Tilghman only played one game this week, but it was a tough one at Madinsonville-Norht Hopkins. Michael Laster scored 19 points and Thomas Rodriguez had 14, but it wasn’t enough as the Blue Tornado lost 64-61. They will play another tough game this week as they host Marshall County in hopes of staying above .500 on the season. 6. Marshall County – Terry Birdsong 2018-19 record: 9-10 Week’s Record: 1-0 Marshall County is in the opposite seat as Paducah Tilghman this week as they are coming off a win in their only game, a 50 point win against Christian Fellowship. They will hope to jump over Paducah Tilghman in the standings when they play this week. If they can defeat Tilghman, they will move to .500 on the season. It will be a nice boost if they pull it off going into an exciting road trip to Napa, California to play in the “Crush in the Valley” tournament hosted by The Grind Session. They will play St. Patrick St. Vincent (CA). 7. Calloway County – Coach Brad Cleaver 2018-19 record: 9-11 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Lakers lost their first game of the week against Caldwell County 71-63. They were led by Cade Butler with 27 and Chandler Steele with 22. They went on to defeat St. Mary in their second game 61-38 with Kade Mize leading the way with 19. Two games this week will be polar opposites. Calloway should easily defeat Christian Fellowship, but they will be in for a tough game when they host Graves County on Thursday. 8 Carlisle County – Coach Brian O’Neil 2018-19 record: 11-9 Week’s Record: 0-1 The Comets lost their only game this week as they were defeated by Murray 54-46 in the semifinals of the Region 1 All A Classic. They will host McCracken County on Tuesday before Ballard Memorial comes to town on Saturday. Looking toward the end of the season, Carlisle has a great chance of finishing above .500, which will be the first time since the 2015-16 season. 9. Fulton County – Coach Jamie Madding 2018-19 record: 7-9 Week’s Record: 0-1 The Pilots only game this week was against BGP #18 Mayfield. They lost 86-62 and they gave the Cardinals their toughest game in the tournament. They will play Humboldt, TN, Ballard Memorial, and Community Christian this week. 10. St. Mary – Coach Greg Overstreet 2018-19 record: 10-10 Week’s Record: 0-1 St. Mary lost their only game this week 61-38 to Calloway County. They will play Livingston Central and McCracken County this week. 11. Community Christian Paducah – Coach Daniel Durrett 2018-19 record: 6-11 Week’s Record: 1-2 The Warriors are in the midst of their best season in quite sometime as they picked up their 6th win of the season 67-15 against Eagle Ridge Christian. They did lose two games, one to Mayfield and the other to Trigg County. They play Crittenden County, Dawson Springs, and Fulton County this week. 12. Fulton City – Coach Jon Dillard 2018-19 record: 5-13 Week’s Record: 2-0 Fulton City won both games this week against Joppa-Maple Grove, IL and Hickman County. They will play Hickman again at the end of the week, but have South Fulton, TN and Trigg County as well. 13. Hickman County – Coach Wynn Harris 2018-19 record: 5-12 Week’s Record: 0-2 Hickman lost to Murray 77-39 and Fulton City 60-57. Its been a tough year for the Falcons. They will play Ballard Memorial and rematch with Fulton City this week. 14. Ballard Memorial – Coach Marla Cooper 2018-19 record: 2-12 Week’s Record: 0-2 The Bombers did not play this past week. They will play against Hickman Co, Fulton Co, and Carlisle Co this week. 15. Christian Fellowship – Coach Tyler Ryan 2018-19 record: 3-16 Week’s Record: 0-1 Christian Fellowship lost to Marshall County 73-23 in their only game. They will play Calloway County and Livingston Central.

Personally I think John Hardin is a good team, but Scott Co. and Trinity are very good teams. Scott Co with Moreno is an elite team. The Bulldogs deserve their #4 ranking, but reality is their gaudy record is a product of a weak schedule and just squeaking by with those wins. Today's win vs Knox Central was a quality win though. They should be congratulated on winning the 2A Classic.

Things in Region 1 seem to be getting tighter and tighter at the top. McCracken has looked more vulnerable the past couple weeks winning two games by 2 points before finally falling to Graves County. It was a great win for Graves who had just lost to Mayfield. Mayfield needed that victory after falling to Paducah Tilghman in late December. It is a round robin of wins and losses and should make for a great run to the end of the season and into the Region 1 tournament: 1. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower BGP #11 2018-19 record: 12-2 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Mustangs lost their first game to a Kentucky team this season when they hosted Graves County. Jackson Sivills was held to only 5 points as McCracken fell 67-56. Trevor Winsett led the Mustangs with 24 points and Dumas added 16. They rebounded nicely in their crosstown rival game against Paducah Tilghman. They controlled the game to the tune of 59-42. Sivills came back to life and scored 26 while Dumas again contributed 14. This week shows how close the competition is in the top tier of region 1. This week the Mustangs will play in the Superman Classic this week starting with Fort Campbell which they should handle easily. 2. Graves County – Coach Joshua Frick 2018-19 record: 13-4 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Eagles had their biggest win of the year as Jordan Noranjo led them to a 67-56 victory over BGP #10 McCracken County. It was a huge boost coming off a 3 game losing streak including to Bowling Green and Mayfield. They backed that up with a convincing win at Marshall County 65-52. Jacob Savage led Graves with 21 points, Mathis had 18, and Naranjo ended with 13. The Eagles shot almost 40% from three point range in this game. Graves will play in the Superman Classic and their opening game will be against Goreville, IL. 3. Mayfield – Coach Chris Guhy BGP #12 2018-19 record: 12-6 Week’s Record: 3-0 Mayfield looks to have righted the ship and gotten back on track to where they were last year. After defeating Graves County last week, the Cardinals pulled off their biggest win of the season taking down BGP#4 University Heights 87-78. While they did allow 44 points to Mr. Basketball candidate KyKy Tandy, they were able to hold off the rest of the Blazers. It was a true team effort as 4 players scored in double digits. Connor Guthrie led the way with 21, Kade Neely had 20, Desean Jones added 17, and Carson Guthrie 16. Mayfield also defeated Ballard Memorial and South Fulton in blowout games. They will open the 1st Region All A Classic against Community Christian. 5. Murray – Coach Dior Curtis 2018-19 record: 7-10 Week’s Record: 0-2 Murray found themselves on the losing end of 2 game this week. The first was understandable as they played the BGP #4 team University Heights. While they put up a great fight, they couldn’t keep up and the final score was 76-66. The second loss was to their rivals Calloway County 50-47. This was a disappointing loss because the Tigers have played region 1 foes very well only losing to Mayfield and Graves. They will start the All A Classic this week. . 4. Paducah Tilghman – Coach Roderick Thomas 2018-19 record: 9-7 Week’s Record: 1-1 Paducah Tilghman had a nice win against Marshall County. They were led by Tylus White who had 20 points. They suffered a difficult loss to McCracken County 59-42. McCracken has looked vulnerable lately and the Tornado hoped they could capitalize on that, but it didn’t happen. The next three games are crucial to Paducah Tilghman’s season. They travel to Madisonville-North Hopkins, then host both Marshall County and Graves County. There is some time off between those games according to the schedule. 6. Marshall County – Terry Birdsong 2018-19 record: 8-10 Week’s Record: 2-2 Marshall County had a tough two games this week taking a loss to Paducah Tilghman 63-47 and Graves County 65-52. The next couple games should help give the Marshall’s some confidence as they play Christian Fellowship and Ripley, TN. Leading up to a big game with Paducah Tilghman next week. The most difficult news for Marshall County is the Federal Judge denied the appeal and Zion Harmon will not be able to play this season. 7. Calloway County – Coach Brad Cleaver 2018-19 record: 8-10 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Lakers had another good week as it looks like they are improving each week as the season moves forward. They defeated Hopkins County Central 49-43 led by Cade Butler with 15 points. They then defeated crosstown rival Murray 50-47 in a nail biter. Ki Franklin scored 21 points in the win. And then they lost to Glasgow 52-41. They will have a tough game against Caldwell County early this week. 8 Carlisle County – Coach Brian O’Neil 2018-19 record: 11-8 Week’s Record: 3-0 The Comets had a good week albeit with against inferior competition. The defeated Dongola, IL, Fulton County, and Ballard Memorial. Trey Wilson and Reese Anderson led the way in those games including a 32 point game from Anderson in their 1st Round All A Classic opponent Ballard Memorial. They will continue in the All A Classic this week. 9. Fulton County – Coach Jamie Madding 2018-19 record: 7-8 Week’s Record: 2-2 The Pilots had the busiest week of any teams in region 1 as they played 4 games going 2 and 2 for the week. They defeated Hickman County 70-48, and traded games with St. Mary winning 61-60, but losing 48-41. They also lost to Carlisle County 68-55. They don’t have a game on the schedule this week. 10. St. Mary – Coach Greg Overstreet 2018-19 record: 10-9 Week’s Record: 2-1 St. Mary was able to defeat Community Christian 42-30 and then split the two games against Fulton County. They will play Calloway County this week. 11. Community Christian Paducah – Coach Daniel Durrett 2018-19 record: 5-9 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Warriors lost to St. Mary, but defeated Christian Fellowship 55-45 in the first round of the 1st Region All A Classic. Eli Paxton score 17 and Carter added 14. They play Mayfield in the next round. 12. Hickman County – Coach Wynn Harris 2018-19 record: 5-10 Week’s Record: 1-1 Hickman lost to Fulton County 70-48 but defeated Fulton City 59-53. They will play in the next round of the All A Classic. 13. Ballard Memorial – Coach Marla Cooper 2018-19 record: 2-12 Week’s Record: 0-2 The Bombers continued their tough season as their losing streak increased to 11 this week in losses to Mayfield and Carlisle County. They will play Hickman next week. 14. Fulton City – Coach Jon Dillard 2018-19 record: 3-13 Week’s Record: 0-2 Fulton City lost both games this week to St. Mary and to Hickman County. They will play Hickman again at the end of the week. 15. Christian Fellowship – Coach Tyler Ryan 2018-19 record: 3-15 Week’s Record: 1-1 Christian Fellowship snapped their 11 game losing streak by defeating Community Christian 49-46, but they couldn’t do it twice as CCA defeated them 55-45 in the All A Classic.

No big changes in this week’s rankings. Webster Count had a nice win over Caldwell County, but can’t seem to get enough consistency to move up in the rankings. UHA suffered a loss to a very good Mayfield team, and Madisonville keeps on trucking, while Hopkinsville tries to get back on track. Here is week 7 rankings: 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#5 2018-19 record: 15-3 Week’s Record: 1-1 University Heights put a hurting on their old rivals Christian County to the tune of 85-53. Tandy scored 31 points and Hollowell add 21. The Blazers were then tripped up by Mayfield 87-78, even with Tandy scoring 44. This could be a preview of the All A State Championship later on. For now the 2nd Region All A Classic starts this week. UHA should have no problem advancing to the All A State Tournament 2. Madisonville North Hopkins – Coach Matt Beshear 2018-19 record: 12-5 Week’s Record: 2-0 Cade Cunningham scored 21 points and Ksuan Casey added 19 points and 10 rebounds as 5 Maroons scored in double digits in the victory against Caldwell County 85-68. They went on to defeat Henderson County just as soundly 82-67. Casey led the team with 23 and Gilber had 15 as once again 5 different players scored at least 11 points. Webster County and Paducah Tilghman are next. The Tilghman game is at home, but should be a pretty good game. 3. Hopkinsville – Coach Larry Miller 2018-19 record: 11-8 Week’s Record: 3-0 The Tigers stopped their five game losing streak by defeating Warren Central 51-49 in a close one. Jacarius Burks was the only player to score in double digits with 11. Hopkinsville then finally found some offense as they defeated Fort Campbell 66-23 (although that is the lowest score they have had since before the Haworth era), and Doss 77-63. The Tigers will play Northeast, TN and Madison Central on Saturday. 4. Caldwell County – Coach Daniel Kukahiko 2018-19 record: 10-6 Week’s Record: 0-2 The Tigers didn’t have a good week in losing to Madisonville big and Webster County. They have now lost 3 of 4 heading into a week where they need to upright the ship. The loss to MNH was expected, but Caldwell really needed to win the game against Webster County to prove their ranking. However, the teams below them haven’t proven they can win consistently either, it’s the only reason they are not dropping. 5. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall 2018-19 record: 9-9 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Colonels took a beatdown to city rivals University Heights 85-53. They recovered nicely and delivered their own victory 75-57 over Jeffersontown. CCHS will host Bowling Green before heading to Scott County for the Toyota Classic where they will play Trinity Catholic from Florida in the opener. 6. Henderson County – Coach Tyler Smithhart 2018-19 record: 10-7 Week’s Record: 1-1 Henderson County played two games this week. In the first game, the Colonels defeated Henderson County 74-65. This was an important win for HC as it keeps them ahead of Webster in the region rankings. In the second game they played Madisonville North Hopkins, who reminded the Colonels, they have a lot of work to do in order to compete with the top tier teams as HC took a 82-67 loss. 7. Lyon County – Coach Jeff Embrey 2018-19 record: 11-6 Week’s Record: 1-0 The Lyons won the only game they played this week. Travis Perry scored 23 points leading them to a 65-44 victory over Fort Campbell. Jackson Shoulders and Gabe Board added 15 in the win. They will play Crittenden County and McLean County next. 8. Union County – Coach Shane Smith 2018-19 record: 7-6 Week’s Record: 0-0 Union stayed idle this week as they did not play any games. They will play Hardin County, IL, Christian Fellowship, and Evansville Day, IN this week. 9. Webster County – Coach Jon Newton 2018-19 record: 12-6 Week’s Record: 2-1 Busy week for the Trojans as they defeated Caldwell County 71-64 and then Allen County-Scottsville 66-50. Both were impressive wins for Webster. They couldn’t quite get past Glasgow losing 54-48. They have two very tough games this week as they host Madisonville North Hopkins and play Knox Central in Owensboro. 10. Hopkins County Central – Coach Lee James 2018-19 record: 5-9 Week’s Record: 0-1 Hopkins County lost another game, that makes 4 of their last 5 and 8 of 11. They need to find something to get back on track. They play Muhlenberg County, Trigg County, Caldwell County, and Calloway County this week. This week could make or break their season. They can get back to .500, or solidify a losing record for the season. 11. Livingston Central – Coach Chris Green 2018-19 record: 9-8 Week’s Record: 1-0 The Cardinals were able to defeat Carlisle County 40-36 in a low scoring affair. They will play in the 2nd Region All “A” Classic starting this week. 12. Trigg County – Coach Payton Croft 2018-19 record: 6-11 Week’s Record: 0-1 Trigg County’s losing streak was extended to 6 and 9 of 11 as they lost 64-60 in a close game with Ohio County. Kendric Adams led the Wildcats with 27. They play Hopkins County Central and Community Christian this week. 13. Fort Campbell – Coach Robbie Townsend 2018-19 record: 5-8 Week’s Record: 1-2 The Falcons got a win at Dawson Spring 73-67 in a good game. However 3 days later they only scored 23 points in a loss to Hopkinsville. Things got a little better, but still lost to Lyon County 65-44. They play McCracken County before starting the All A Classic. 14. Dawson Springs – Coach Chad Burgett 2018-19 record: 5-10 Week’s Record: 0-1 The Panthers only played one game this week, but it extended their losing streak to 5 games and now they have lost 8 of 9. They rematch Fort Campbell this week to start the All A Classic 15. Crittenden County – Coach Denis Hodge 2018-19 record: 5-10 Week’s Record: 0-0 The Rockets did not play this week as they prepare for the All A Classic starting Tuesday.

Nice win for the Cardinals.

Frankfort, Madisonville, Knox Central, Male, and a few others have to be in the conversation for top 20. But, reality is, there are probably 30 to 35 teams to deserve consideration, but only 20 can make it. I would bet anyone from 12-35 could beat each other consistently.

The big game this week was Graves County vs Mayfield in a District 3 showdown. Mayfield came out on top, even without one of their big guns. McCracken also showed signs of vulnerability as they pulled out two extremely tight games. Paducah and Murray continue to play well, but still need to improve. Marshall is waiting on news whether one of the best players in the nation will join them by week’s end. And the All “A” Classic games are almost upon us. Here are the rankings for week 6: 1. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower BGP #11 2018-19 record: 13-1 Week’s Record: 2-0 The Mustangs had a very uncomfortable win at home versus Christian County. It was much closer than it should have been. McCracken won the game 52-50 behind 26 points from Jackson Sivills. Elliot County was a much more anticipated game where the Mustangs once again pulled out a 2 point victory, 66-64, and again they were led by Sivills with 29. Two very tough games lie on the horizon for MC. First up is Graves County on Saturday, and then Paducah Tilghman on Jan 11. Sivills is leading McCracken with 23 ppg and 8 rpg on the season, followed by Noah Dumas averaging 13.4 ppg. 3. Mayfield – Coach Chris Guhy 2018-19 record: 9-6 Week’s Record: 1-1 Mayfield dropped out of the BGP top 20 after their losses in late December. They rebounded nicely this week as they defeated Graves County 69-64. They led by as many as 12 in the game. It was a great game for Mayfield, especially since they played without Carson Guthrie, who had to sit out this game. Mayfield lost their Mustang Madness game to St. Louis Christian 73-60. Desean Jones and Connor Guthrie are leading the Cardinals in scoring with 15 per game. Carson Guthrie leads the team in rebounding with 8.5 per game to go along with 13.5 ppg. Two easy games this week for Mayfield before a big matchup against University Heights next week. 3. Graves County – Coach Joshua Frick 2018-19 record: 11-4 Week’s Record: 0-2 The Eagles have their first losing streak of the season, and it sits at 3. After losing to Bowling Green late in December, Graves lost an important game to Mayfield 69-64. Noranjo had 19 and Mathis had 18, but it wasn’t enough to overcome Mayfield. They then dropped a game at Mustang Madness to Downey Christian of Orlando, FL, 82-73. Graves will have another big game this Saturday against McCracken County and then follow that up with Marshall County. Mathis (17.5 ppg), Naranjo (15.3 ppg), and Savage (14.2 ppg) are the leading scores for the Eagles this season. 4. Murray – Coach Dior Curtis 2018-19 record: 7-8 Week’s Record: 2-1 Murray has responded well to their 4 game losing streak over the break by winning 3 in a row before losing to UHA. The Tigers has some very tough opponents at the end of December. They defeated South Warren and Ballard Memorial after. Murray has been led this season by the trio RaVichael Strickland at 13 ppg, Hunter Utley at 11.4 ppg, Grant Whitaker at 10 ppg and Will Lovins at 10 ppg. . 5. Paducah Tilghman – Coach Roderick Thomas 2018-19 record: 8-6 Week’s Record: 1-0 Paducah Tilghman only had one game this week and they took advantage of the opportunity as they defeated Christian County 75-64. Rodriguez Thomas and Michael Laster each scored 17 points and Avery Strayhorn add 14. Those 3 also lead PT in scoring for the season at 15, 12, and 11.6 respectively. According to the KHSAA schedule, Tilghman only has 4 games left in the month of January, but they are every so important, Marshall County twice, McCracken County, and Graves County. 6. Marshall County – Terry Birdsong 2018-19 record: 8-8 Week’s Record: 2-1 Marshall County defeated Calloway County 54-43 and St Mary 49-32. They lost to Downey Christian out of Orlando, FL 76-68. The big news of the week was the Federal hearing of whether Zion Harmon will be eligible to play this year. The judge has delayed a verdict, which is expected to be given by the end of this week. If Harmon is eligible to play, then things will change for the Marshalls. If he is not, then the road to Rupp will be much more difficult. In the meantime, Tilghman and Graves County are on the schedule next. 7 Carlisle County – Coach Brian O’Neil 2018-19 record: 8-7 Week’s Record: 1-0 The Comets bounced back after a bad holiday tournament run. They defeated Hickman County 74-44 and were led by Reese Anderson with 21 points. Anderson also leads Carlisle in scoring on the year with 15 ppg. Trey Wilson adds 13 ppg, Blake Elder 11 ppg, and Daven McGee 10 ppg. Up next for Carlisle is Livingston Central. 8. Calloway County – Coach Brad Cleaver 2018-19 record: 6-9 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Lakers hosted Marshall County but fell 54-43. They also played a decent Union County team and played one of their best games of the season winning 64-46. The Lakers are led by Chandler Steele (15 ppg), Cade Butler (14 ppg), and Kade Mize (11.6 ppg). Trigg County and Hopkins County Central along with Murray are next up. 9. Fulton County – Coach Jamie Madding 2018-19 record: 5-6 Week’s Record: 2-0 The Pilots won both their games this week against Fulton City and Lake County (TN). They have been led by Caleb Kimble this year who is averaging 14.5 ppg. Kahari Miller (11 ppg) and Camdeg Aldridge (10.1 ppg) are also big contributors. Hickman County and St. Mary are up next. 10. St. Mary – Coach Greg Overstreet 2018-19 record: 7-8 Week’s Record: 1-1 St. Mary lost to Marshall County on New Year’s Day, but they defeated Ballard Memorial on Friday. The Vikings are led by Colin Doss at 12.3 ppg and Joey Eggemeyer at 11.1 ppg. They will play Fulton City and Community Christian this week. 11. Community Christian Paducah – Coach Daniel Durrett 2018-19 record: 4-6 Week’s Record: 0-0 The Warriors did not report any game scores this week. They will play Christian Fellowship before traveling to St. Mary. They are led by Ben Carter and Elijah Middleton who both average 16 ppg. 12. Hickman County – Coach Wynn Harris 2018-19 record: 4-9 Week’s Record: 0-1 Hickman lost to Carlisle County 74-44. Jackson Midyett has been the only consistent scoring threat averaging 14 ppg. Fulton County next on the schedule. 13. Ballard Memorial – Coach Marla Cooper 2018-19 record: 2-10 Week’s Record: 0-2 The Bombers losing streak was extended to 9 games as they lost to both Murray and St. Mary. Things don’t look to promising as they play Mayfield and Carlisle. Drew Cox and Dequin Donlow lead Ballard Memorial in scoring with 12 and 11 ppg respectively. 14. Fulton City – Coach Jon Dillard 2018-19 record: 3-11 Week’s Record: 1-1 Fulton City lost to Fulton County but defeated Christian Fellowship. The only player who averages at least 10 ppg for them is Cameron Madding at 10.5. They play St Mary in their only game this week. 15. No big changes in this week’s rankings. Webster County dropped a few spots after their loss. Things will start to pick up as more teams play each other in the region over the next month and a half. Madisonville has the chance to break into the BGP top 20 soon if they can keep playing like they have been. Everyone else is looking up at UHA and MNC. There is a pretty significant gap after those two teams. Here are week 6 rankings: 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#5 2018-19 record: 11-2 Week’s Record: 1-0 The Blazers defeated Murray 76-66 at Mustang Madness. The Blazers were led by KyKy Tandy with 21 and Drew McGowan who had 17. Hollowell added 12 and Crump added 13. So far on the season, Tandy is leading the Blazers this season averaging 26.2 ppg. McGowan is averaging 14.3 ppg and is hitting from behind the arc at a 52.1% rate, and he is also leading the team in rebounding at 5.3 rpg. Christian County and Mayfield are all on the horizon for the Blazers. 2. Madisonville North Hopkins – Coach Matt Beshear 2018-19 record: 10-5 Week’s Record: 1-0 Ksuan Casey scored 20 points and had 8 rebounds in leading the Maroons past Hopkinsville 60-52. Kenny White added 14 points and JD Gilbert scored 14 points in the win. The Maroons took the first step in proving that this may be the year District 8’s dominance is broken. Casey is leading Madisonville in scoring with 15.7 ppg and 9 rpg. Kenny White is second with 13 ppg and 8.4 rpg. Barring any slipups, the Maroons could win out the rest of the season. Games against Owensboro, Owensboro Catholic, and Caldwell County look to be their biggest challenges 3. Hopkinsville – Coach Larry Miller 2018-19 record: 8-8 Week’s Record: 0-2 Tigers are in the midst of a difficult run in their season. They lost 60-52 to Madisonville, and 43-41 to Lincoln County. Hopkinsville has found it difficult to score in the midst of their 5 game losing streak. The Tigers have only averaged 46.5 ppg during the losing streak, the lowest 5 game total in over 10 years. James Nicholas is leading the Tigers averaging 14.6 ppg, with Jacaris Burks, Don Victor averaging 10 ppg. Things don’t get any easier as Hopkinsville play Warren Central and Doss this week. They should snap the skid however when they play Fort Campbell. 4. Caldwell County – Coach Daniel Kukahiko 2018-19 record: 10-4 Week’s Record: 1-0 The Tigers soundly defeated Dawson Springs 92-53 in their only game this week. Derrin Boyd leads Caldwell with 24.5 ppg and 6.8 rpg. He is the second leading scorer in Region 2. Cayden Fraliex, John Davis, and Tripp Branch are average 10 ppg. Caldwell could make some big noise this week as they travel to Madisonville to take on the region’s second best team. They will then play Webster in the KY 2A Sectional Tournament. 5. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall 2018-19 record: 8-8 Week’s Record: 1-2 The Colonels were so close in pulling a big upset against McCracken County, ultimately losing 52-50 in the Mustang Madness. Christian County played one of their best games of the year. They played Paducah Tilghman the next night and didn’t play as well losing 75-64. They followed that up with a win at Fort Campbell 81-51. Fred Tandy is leading the Colonels with 15 ppg and Eric Brody is averaging 14.4 ppg. UHA and Dunbar are on the schedule for this week. 6. Henderson County – Coach Tyler Smithhart 2018-19 record: 9-6 Week’s Record: 1-1 Henderson County played two away games this week. In the first game, the Colonels defeated Muhlenberg County 60-54. In the second they were unable to overcome Grayson County in a 51-40 loss. Corey Stewart is leading Henderson with 16 ppg on the season. Holden Raley is adding 10 ppg. The Colonels have some big games against Madinsonville, Webster County, and Union County this week. 7. Lyon County – Coach Jeff Embrey 2018-19 record: 10-6 Week’s Record: 1-0 The Lyons won the only game they played this week. Travis Perry scored 19 points leading them to a 62-49 victory. Jackson Shoulders added 17 in the win. For the season, Perry is averaging 21 ppg and Jackson 14 ppg. Lyon County will play Livingston Central and Ft. Campbell this week. 8. Union County – Coach Shane Smith 2018-19 record: 7-6 Week’s Record: 1-1 Union defeated Webster County 61-57 showing that they can play with most of the teams in region 2. However they suffered a very disappointing loss to Calloway County in the KY 2A Sectional Tournament. Many people expected a much closer game than the 64-46 final score. Union has the chance to put that behind them and move forward as they ply Henderson County on Friday. Kale Gaither is leading the Braves with 24 ppg and Elex Dunford is adding 11.6 ppg. 9. Webster County – Coach Jon Newton 2018-19 record: 10-5 Week’s Record: 0-1 The Trojans lost their only contest this week to Union County 61-57 as they continue to be an up and down team this year. Malachi Douglas is scoring 16 ppg and Tyler Camplin is getting 14.4 ppg, while Hunter McNaughton is adding 12.6 ppg. They play Henderson County and Caldwell County this week. Both games will be tough for the Trojans. 10. Hopkins County Central – Coach Lee James 2018-19 record: 5-8 Week’s Record: 0-1 Hopkins County took a hefty loss to Ohio County 81-62. The Storm have been led in scoring on the year by Tylan Mann at 20.5 ppg. Blasin Moore and Adrian Stringer both are scoring 11 ppg. They will play Calloway County in the KY 2A Sectional Tournament this week. 11. Livingston Central – Coach Chris Green 2018-19 record: 8-8 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Cardinals able to defeat Trigg County in a close game 38-37, but were unable to get past Benton, IL as they lost 47-32. LC is led by Kobe Ringstaff with 16 ppg on the season and followed by Bryce Stein (14.4 ppg) and Cameron Head (11.7). 12. Trigg County – Coach Payton Croft 2018-19 record: 6-10 Week’s Record: 0-1 Trigg County’s losing streak was extended to 5 as they lost 38-37 in a close game with Livingston Central. Kendric Adams is leading the Wildcats with 12 ppg on th eyar. Kyron Grubbs is averaging 10 ppg. 13. Fort Campbell – Coach Robbie Townsend 2018-19 record: 4-6 Week’s Record: 0-1 The Falcons found themselves at the mercy of Christian County in a 81-51 loss. They will play Dawson Springs this week, who they defeated earlier this season by 15. 14. Dawson Springs – Coach Chad Burgett 2018-19 record: 5-9 Week’s Record: 0-2 The Panthers had two games this week, neither were very pretty. They lost to Caldwell County and Metcalfe County. They will play Ft. Campbell and Madisonville this week. Dawson Springs has been paced this year by Skyler Clark (21.6 ppg) and Landon Pace (12.2 ppg). 15. Crittenden County – Coach Denis Hodge 2018-19 record: 5-10 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Rockets lost to Lyon County by 13, but defeated Stewart County, TN 62-52. Gabe Mott leads Crittenden County with 17 ppg on the year.

This game should be great, high powered offense in Elliott, and defensive minded McCracken. I don't think Elliott will reach there ppg average on this one.

That will have a profound effect on the game tho. I didn't know he was suspended. I would give the edge to Graves now because of that.

They must seed by record because Butler shouldn't be the no. 1 seed. They are 5th seed at best, more likely a 7 or 8.

Holiday Tournaments have completed and nothing really of note to change. University Heights showed that they are one of the top teams in the state and have establish themselves as a favorite for the All “A” Classic State Tournament coming up later in January. A big game between Madisonville and Hopkinsville is on June 3rd, both teams want to establish themselves as the number 2 team in the region. Here are the rankings: 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#3 2018-19 record: 10-2 Week’s Record: 4-0 The Blazers won the championship game of the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic over the past week. They defeated Frederick Douglass in the first round. KyKy Tandy only had 6 points in this game in his worst performance of the season. McGowan picked him up with 25 and Hollowell had 18. In round 2, UHA took down Cooper 64-53, a team many thought would defeat the Blazers. The semi-final game proved to be the toughest game as they defeated Landstown, Va 66-63. They finished out with a commanding victory over Newport 85-59. Murray, Christian County, and Mayfield are all on the horizon for the Blazers. 2. Madisonville North Hopkins – Coach Matt Beshear 2018-19 record: 9-5 Week’s Record: 2-1 Madisonville played in the Meijer Holiday Classic. Unfortunately they lost their first game to a surging Owensboro team 71-57. This loss came as a little bit of a surprise, but the Maroons rebounded in their next two games defeating Murray 60-47 and Monroe County 69-67. Madisonville will open the 2019 year with a big match up vs Hopkinsville in a battle for the second spot in region rankings. After that they take a few days before their match at home against Caldwell County. 3. Hopkinsville – Coach Larry Miller 2018-19 record: 8-5 Week’s Record: 0-2 Things were going so well for the Tigers who had won 8 of 10 coming into the tournament in Missouri. Hopkinsville dropped both games, even though they were close. Father Tolton was the better of the two teams they lost to. The Tigers have now lost three in a row and look to rebound in a tough match at home vs Madisonville before travelling to Lincoln County. The next couple week have some tough games (Warren Central, Doss, Madison Central, Graves County). 4. Caldwell County – Coach Daniel Kukahiko 2018-19 record: 8-4 Week’s Record: 1-1 Playing in the West KY Hoops Classic, Caldwell soundly defeated Fulton City 82-36. They played Northeast, TN the next day and couldn’t quite hang as they went down 71-62. Caldwell has looked pretty good winning 8 of their last 10 games. Dawson Springs and Madisonville await them in the new year. 5. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall 2018-19 record: 7-6 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Colonels first game in the Poplar Bluff Showdown was to top 100 rank team out of Fayettville, Arkansas. Christian County was overmatched from the start going on to lose by 40 points. They rebounded nicely the following two games as they defeated Memphis Central 73-60 and Kirby (Memphis, TN) 52-48. The schedule is about to get real tough for the Colonels in January. They go to McCracken County, Paducah Tilghman, and play UHA, Dunbar, and Bowling Green at home. 6. Webster County – Coach Jon Newton 2018-19 record: 10-4 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Trojans continue to beat up easy opponents in the schedule, but they seem to struggle with quality teams. Hence why the great record, but not the best ranking. Danville manhandle Webster to the tune of 77-41 in the Hilliard Lyons Holiday Hoop Classic. They bounced back to defeat Whitefield Academy and Metcalfe County, however neither of those teams has a winning record this year. Webster County really needs a Signature win to improve in the standing. They have that chance in 2 weeks when they face Caldwell County and Madisonville. 7. Henderson County – Coach Tyler Smithhart 2018-19 record: 8-5 Week’s Record: 1-2 Henderson County didn’t have the South Central Bank Halton Classic they were hoping to. In the first game against Greenwood, they were unable to keep up in a 64-46 loss. They put up a much better fight against Franklin-Simpson, but still fell 54-51 in a tough loss. The Colonels were finally able to get in the win column by soundly defeating Todd County Central 73-45. Muhlenberg Co. Grayson Co. and Webster Co. are the next 3 games on the schedule. 8. Lyon County – Coach Jeff Embrey 2018-19 record: 9-6 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Lyons played two gamed at the Stewart County Christmas Classic in Tennesee. They lost the first game to East Robertson 64-53 and won the second game against Henry County, TN 69-54. They only play one game this week against Critteden County. That should get them to double digit victories this season. 9. Union County – Coach Shane Smith 2018-19 record: 6-5 Week’s Record: 2-2 Union traveled to Pinckneyville, IL for the Duster Thomas Hoops Classic. The Braved defeated Trigg County and Jersey, IL, while losing to Greenville, IL and Chester, IL. They will face Webster County and Calloway County. Sophomore Kale Gaither is still pacing Union to the tune of 24.3 ppg. 10. Hopkins County Central – Coach Lee James 2018-19 record: 5-7 Week’s Record: 1-2 Hopkins County had a pretty decent showing at the Marshall County Holiday Classic even though they lost two of the games. They were in both games they lost, but just ran out of gas at the end against Marshall County and Valley. They were able to take down Apollo 71-64. Ohio County and the 2A Sectionals are on schedule for early January. 11. Livingston Central – Coach Chris Green 2018-19 record: 7-7 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Cardinals were so close to winning all 3 games they played it the Murray Bank Tipoff Classic. LC lost to Calloway County in overtime of the first game 58-51. They went on to defeat Fulton County 45-43 in another close game before winning against Christian Fellowship in their last game. Trigg County and Carlisle County will be the next 2 Kentucky opponents for the Cards. 12. Trigg County – Coach Payton Croft 2018-19 record: 6-8 Week’s Record: 0-3 Trigg County had a tough time at the Duster Thomas Hoops Classic. They lost to Richland County IL, Roxana IL, and Union County. They play Livingston Central and Calloway in early January. 13. Fort Campbell – Coach Robbie Townsend 2018-19 record: 4-4 Week’s Record: 0-2 The Falcons were way overmatched in the Zaxby’s Holiday Tournament in Clarksville, TN. Both games they lost by more than 45 points. They play Christian County and Dawson Springs next. 14. Dawson Springs – Coach Chad Burgett 2018-19 record: 5-7 Week’s Record: 1-2 The Panthers started the Williamstown Holiday Tournament off well defeating Williamstown behind 28 points from Tyler Clark. However Dawson Springs couldn’t keep pace with Thomas Nelson as they lost 93-60. They had a tough match with Nicholas County, but still fell 91-80. The Panthers have given up 80 points or more in 6 of their 12 games this season while only scoring more than 80 points 3 times. 15. Crittenden County – Coach Denis Hodge 2018-19 record: 4-9 Week’s Record: 0-2 The Rockets lost both games in the Stewart County Christmas Classic in Tennessee. They will play Lyon County and Trigg County in early January.

McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower BGP #11 2018-19 record: 11-1 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Mustangs went to Palm Springs to play in the Holiday Basketball Classic. They won the first to games they played against Calvary Day School and the host school Dwyer. However they were unable to defeat Bergen Catholic in the Championship game where they lost 67-52. Bergen is ranked #7 in New Jersey and is undefeated on the year. Now that the first loss of the year is behind them, McCracken can focus on the season goals. They will host Mustang Madness this week where they will play a rematch with Christian County and then a very good Elliott County. 2. Graves County – Coach Joshua Frick 2018-19 record: 11-2 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Eagles played in the Meijer Holiday Classic where they defeated South Warren 71-59 and Bullitt East 63-43. They then played Bowling Green in the last game but couldn’t pull out a win, losing 62-57. Ryan Mathis had a huge 31 point game against South Warren. This sets up the Eagles biggest showdown of the year so far, the Mayfield Cardinals. Jan 4 sets the date for the showdown of the region #2 vs #3. Should be an excellent game in Mayfield, would be worth traveling to if you are in the area. 3. Mayfield – Coach Chris Guhy BGP #12 2018-19 record: 8-5 Week’s Record: 2-1 Mayfield defeated both Atherton and Southern this past week. They were defeated handily to Lafayette 71-57. They will have another tough matchup against Graves County on Jan 4. After that they will play in the Mustang Madness tournament at McCracken County against St. Louis Christian. Mayfield has not played as well so far this year as they did this time last year. They will need to play better if they want to see Rupp Arena. 5. Murray – Coach Dior Curtis 2018-19 record: 4-9 Week’s Record: 0-3 Murray is currently on a 4 game losing streak after losing 2 games at the Meijer Holiday Classic in Bowling Green. The Tigers lost to Bowling Green 78-51 and Madisonville North Hopkins 60-47. Murray will now play Joppa-Maple Grove from Illinois before heading to Ballard Memorial. . 4. Paducah Tilghman – Coach Roderick Thomas 2018-19 record: 7-6 Week’s Record: 1-2 Paducah Tilghman traveled to the Central Bank Classic in Lexington and found themselves struggling against better teams. Central Hardin defeated the Tornado 73-63, and Oldham County beat PT 69-63. Tilghman however was able to defeat Holy Cross-Covington 92-53. Their next 5 games will be tough matchups and PT goes into the toughest stretch of the season. They will play Christian County, Marshall County 2x, McCracken County, and Graves County. 6. Ballard Memorial – Coach Marla Cooper 2018-19 record: 2-8 Week’s Record: 0-2 The Bombers continued their tough season as their losing streak increased to 7 this week in losses to Stewart County and East Robertson both from Tennessee. They will play Murray and St. Mary before traveling to Mayfield. 14. Fulton City – Coach Jon Dillard 2018-19 record: 2-10 Week’s Record: 0-2 Fulton City lost both games this week to Caldwell County and Dresden, TN. They will face Fulton County and Christian Fellowship next. 15. Christian Fellowship – Coach Tyler Ryan 2018-19 record: 2-13 Week’s Record: 0-3 Christian Fellowship is currently in the midst of a 10 game losing streak. Fulton County, Calloway County, and Livingston Central all contributed to that streak this week.

How are they a very, very good team? They are not even ranked in the top 20 in any division in Illinois. Maxpreps even has them ranked 2500+.

I am not saying that CovCath isn't getting better, I think they are a top 10 team, but reality is Loyola is not that great a team. This game would concern me. 28 points against an average team seems a step in the wrong direction.

Scott County will face WestChester, Ca for the championship. WestChester is ranked #26 according to Maxpreps. They are 11-1 and they are pretty big. Their only loss camp to #1 ranked Sierra Canyon in a Hawaii tournament.Starting lineup is G - 5'10 G - 6'2 F - 6'4 F - 6'6 C - 6'8 Not having Moreno may hurt even more in the championship. Cardinals can pull it out though! Lets go Scott County!

Covington had 31, Stewart had 14, and Williams had 12. Covington averaged 8 points so far this year, but he went 6-9 from three and carried the Cardinals to victory. They will play in the Championship game tomorrow.

Scott County jumped out to a 19 point lead 12 minutes into the game. Then Little Rock came storming back to tie it at 60 with a minute and half left. But Scott prevailed with some huge plays by Glenn Covington.
