Christian County won all their games against district 8 going 6-0 this season all but claiming the favorite for region 2. UHA and Hopkinsville with have to play each other in round one to see who will be heading to the region tournament. Henderson County, Webster, and Union all will be battling for district 7 as that is gonna be some great games as well. No huge changes in the rankings this week as we head into the final few games of the season before districts start next week. 1. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall 2017-18 record: 17-6 Week’s Record:3-0 Last Weeks Rank: 1 The Colonels have won 7 games in a row including two against Hopkinsville and two against UHA. This week they beat both in pretty close games. The Colonels took down UHA 74-64, and they held on to beat Hopkinsville 70-68. The Colonels definitely flexed their muscles this week against the other two teams from District 8. D. Ware led Christian County in scoring for both games, 30 against UHA and 28 at Hoptown. They finish up their season going to Muhlenberg County and then to Bowling Green. 2. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse 2017-18 record: 16-7 Week’s Record: 2-1 Last Weeks Rank: 2 The Blazers opened the week losing to Christian County for the second time in a week. This one was a 10 point loss, about the same as the first. Tandy had 24 in the game. UHA then turned around and defeated Hopkinsville by 10 showing they still have what it takes to make it to the region tournament. Tandy led the Blazers again with 36 points. After two tough district games UHA then went to Murray and won with a closer than expected score of 74-62. The Blazers will finish out their season against Henderson County and Webster County. 3. Hopkinsville – Coach Tim Haworth 2017-18 record: 11-13 Week’s Record: 0-2 Last Weeks Rank: 3 Hopkinsville didn’t need to win the two games this week in order to have a chance at regions, but it sure would have helped their confidence level. The Tigers lost to both UHA and Christian County at home. While the Tigers are healthy, it seems they haven’t found the chemistry needed to win the big games. They only have one more week to figure it out before the district tournament. They play two very tough opponents this week as they host Owensboro and finish the year at McCracken County. A win against either of those opponents will help. 4. Madisonville North Hopkins – Coach Matt Beshear 2017-18 record: 18-8 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Weeks Rank: 4 Madisonville had two good victories this week. As easy win against Dawson Springs and then a very impressive victory at Henderson County. The Maroons defeated HC 61-47. They should easily win the 7th district. But before that, Madisonville host both Apollo and Ohio County from region 3. Pretty good warmup games for post season play. 5. Henderson County – Coach Tyler Smithhart 2017-18 record: 13-11 Week’s Record: 3-1 Last Weeks Rank: 5 Henderson County was a very busy team this week, playing 2 away games and 2 home games. The Colonels were able to defeat Apollo, Hopkins Central, and Livingston Central. Kale Gaither led HC in those games averaging just over 20 ppg. Henderson ran out of gas in their last game again Madisonville taking the loss 61-47. The Colonels looked a little tired in that game after playing 3 other games during the week. They will look to rebound and could make a big statement as they host UHA and Owensboro. Both of those teams are top teams in their respective regions. 6. Webster County – Coach Jon Newton 2017-18 record: 16-9 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Weeks Rank: 6 Webster has been the up and down team in region 2 this year. This week was an up week. The Trojans took down Hopkins County Central 64-46 led by 18 points from both Malachi Douglas and Chatman Ellis. They then turned around and defeated a surging Livingston Central in the lowest scoring region 2 game this season 38-33. Webster will hope to continue their winning against its final two opponents of the regular season, McClean County and University Heights. 7. Hopkins County Central – Coach Lee James 2017-18 record: 13-12 Week’s Record: 1-3 Last Weeks Rank: 7 Another team playing 4 games this week, the Storm found themselves on the losing side of 3 of them. HCC took the loss in games against Webster Co., Henderson Co, and Caldwell Co (in overtime). They were able to win against Lyon Co 68-60. They will finish the season against Crittenden Co and Lyon Co. 8. Livingston Central – Coach Bill McNamara 2017-18 record: 16-12 Week’s Record: 0-2 Last Weeks Rank: 9 The Cardinals have really made improvements from the beginning of the year, but that improvement has slowed somewhat after losing 3 of their last 4 games. Now, they were not favored in any of the games they lost (Marshall Co, Henderson Co. Webster Co), and they played their opponents tough, losing all 3 games by a total of 12 points. They finish the season hosting Caldwell County 9. Union County – Coach Shane Smith[/u][/b] 2017-18 record: 13-13 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Weeks Rank: 9 Union has seemed to find a groove again. They started the season hot, then lost 7 straight before trading off some wins and losses. Now they are on a 4 game winning streak after defeating Hardin County, IL and Lyon County this week. They will have a good game against Caldwell County before heading into the district tournament. 10. Caldwell County – Coach Daniel Kukahiko 2017-18 record: 12-12 Week’s Record: 3-0 Last Weeks Rank: 10 After losing both their games last week, Caldwell County came out firing away and took down Dawson Springs, Hopkins County Central, and Trigg County. They now have a busy week as they play 3 games before district starts. They will travel to Union, Todd Central, and Livingston Central. If they can win those games, watch out. 11. Trigg County – Coach Payton Croft 2017-18 record: 11-11 Week’s Record: 0-2 Last Weeks Rank: 10 Trigg County has now found themselves on an unwanted losing streak. They have lost 4 in a row and 5 of 6 after losing to Todd County Central and Caldwell County. They look to rebound against Ballard Memorial and Ft. Campbell. 12. Lyon County – Coach Jeff Embrey 2017-18 record: 6-16 Week’s Record: 0-2 Last Weeks Rank: 12 Lyon lost to Hopkins County Central and Union County. Neither game was particularly close. They will finish the year at St. Mary and Hopkins County Central again. 13. Crittenden County – Coach Denis Hodge 2017-18 record: 5-17 Week’s Record: 0-3 Last Weeks Rank: 13 The Rockets struggles continue as they now have lost 5 in a row and 8 of 9. They could not find their stroke against either Hardin County, IL or Marshall Co. They finish the year against Hopkins County Central and Fort Campbell. 14. Fort Campbell – Coach Stacey Harrell 2017-18 record: 4-18 Week’s Record: 1-2 Last Weeks Rank: 15 The Falcons pulled themselves back out of the cellar with a commanding 76-54 win over Dawson Springs. That was their first win in 7 games. They also lost to Christian County and Clarksville, Tn this week too. They play Trigg County and Crittenden County to end the season. 15. Dawson Springs – Coach Chad Burgett 2017-18 record: 8-18 Week’s Record:1-3 Last Weeks Rank: 14 The Panthers played 4 games this week losing 3 of them to Fort Campbell, Caldwell County, and Madisonville. They were able to pull out a win against Metcalfe County. They play Trinity Whitesville, CCA, Christian Fellowship and Frederick Fraize to finish the season. Player of the Week Detorrion Ware, Christian County Ware averaged almost 30 ppg in wins against rivals UHA and Hopkinsville.

BluegrassPreps.com 1st Region Boys Basketball Review Week 10 There are 4 legit teams that can win Region 1 and make a splash at Rupp. 2 of those teams have separated themselves from the field, Mayfield and McCracken County. That is not saying someone else won’t win the region, but those two teams are playing very well. They have only lost 3 games between the two of them in 2018. Paducah Tilghman and Graves both have the talent to win the region tournament but need to improve play in order to do so. Fulton County has been playing great basketball lately and moved up to number 6 in the rankings. Shout out to Community Christian Academy in Paducah for their resilience and finally snapping their 2 year long losing streak. 1. Mayfield – Coach Chris Guhy BGP #15 2017-18 record: 23-5 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Week’s Rank: 2 Mayfield has lost 1 game since the new year began. In that span they have won 15 games. This week the Cardinals added 2 more games to that list, but none bigger than the impressive 56-43 win against a very good Graves County team. Connor Guthrie led Mayfield with 21 points while Desean Jones added 19. Mayfield also defeated Fulton County. The Cardinals will end the season facing Marshall County and Hickman County. If they win those games they will have gone undefeated in Region 1 play. 2. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower 2017-18 record: 23-5 Week’s Record: 3-0 Last Week’s Rank: 42 The Mustangs have an 11 game winning streak of their own after defeating Calloway Co, St. Mary, and region rival Paducah Tilghman. The Mustangs left no doubt who the better team is between the Paducah Schools as they defeated the Tornado twice in a matter of 10 days. This time at home and to a score off 53-42. If not for the superb play of Mayfield, McCracken would be the number 1 ranked team in the region. McCracken will finish its season with Murray and then a tough game against Hopkinsville. 3. Paducah Tilghman – Coach Roderick Thomas 2017-18 record:17-8 Weeks record: 1-1 Last Week’s Rank: 1 Paducah Tilghman has not played its best basketball lately. This week they defeated a winless CCA team and then had a chance to prove the lost to McCracken County was an outlier. It wasn’t meant to be as the Tornado went down 53-42. Reed still had 17 points, but everyone else for Tilghman struggled to find baskets. PT needs to find its groove back or they will again miss going to Rupp even though they have the most talented team on paper. They finish the season against Calloway Co. 4. Graves County – Coach Joshua Frick 2017-18 record: 20-8 Week’s Record: 2-1 Last Week’s Rank: 3 Graves County has looked really good lately even without top scorer Savage out. The game against Mayfield looked as if it would be a classic between two dominant teams, however the Cardinals were just too much and Graves went down 56-43. The game showed how strong Mayfield really is, but also how bad Savage is missed when playing top teams (Hopkinsville, McCracken, Mayfield). The Eagles finish the season playing against Carlisle County and Marshall County. 5. Marshall County – Terry Birdsong 2017-18 record: 16-9 Week’s Record: 4-0 Last Week’s Rank: 5 Great week for Marshall County as they played 4 games this week, and won all of them. Murray, Calloway County, St. Mary, and Crittenden County all were defeated by the Marshalls. While the teams weren’t the strongest in the region, they were good wins for MC. They have two really tough matchups this week however. They go to Mayfield and host Graves County. They will play underdogs in both. 6. Fulton County – Coach Jamie Madding 2017-18 record: 15-10 Week’s Record: 3-0 Last Week’s Rank: 8 The Pilots have won 12 games since the new year began. They won 3 more games this week against Christian Fellowship, Carlisle County, and Fulton City. Andreous Smith scored 32 points and Brandon Walker added 28 in the victory over Carlisle. They are playing confident basketball and that has put them as the best of the mid tier teams in Region 1. It’s the highest ranking Fulton County has received in Region 1 in quite some time. 7. Murray – Coach Dior Curtis 2017-18 record: 121-14 Week’s Record: 1-2 Last Week’s Rank: 7 Murray defeated Hickman County and lost to Marshall County and University Heights. They played UHA much closer than expected and will need that type of play come tournament time. 8. Carlisle County – Coach Brian O’Neil 2017-18 record: 12-14 Week’s Record: 2-1 Last Week’s Rank: 9 The Comets didn’t have a great week, but they did defeat Ballard Memorial 74-59. Trey Wilson led Carlisle with 18 points in the win. They didn’t have the same success against Calloway County or Fulton County, losing both of those games by double digits. 9. Ballard Memorial – Coach Marla Cooper 2017-18 record: 11-13 Week’s Record: 0-2 Last Week’s Rank: 6 Ballard Bombers just haven’t played will since the All A Classic and this week was no different. They lost to Graves County which was expected, but they also lost big to Carlisle County, which was not expected. They are in a downward spiral they need to figure out if they want to make the region tournament. They will play Trigg, Fulton Co, and Calloway Co this week. 10. Calloway County – Coach Brad Cleaver 2016-17 record: 10-16 Week’s Record: 1-2 Last Week’s Rank: 10 Calloway played a fantastic game against Carlisle County blowing out of the gym with a 75-40 victory. 11 players scored for the Lakers in the win. They only scored 22 points against McCracken County, and lost to Marshall County by 5 points. 11. Hickman County – Coach Jimmy Long 2017-18 record: 10-17 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Week’s Rank: 11 Hickman lost to Murray by 24 but defeated CCA by 38. They finish the season at home against powerhouse Mayfield. 12. St. Mary – Coach Greg Overstreet 2017-18 record: 9-18 Week’s Record: 1-2 Last Week’s Rank: 12 St. Mary lost to Marshall County and McCracken Count but defeated Crittenden County. They finish the year against Lyon County 13. Christian Fellowship – Coach Tyler Ryan 2017-18 record: 10-13 Week’s Record: 1-2 Last Week’s Rank: 13 The Eagles defeated CCA and lost to Fulton County and St. Francis. They finish their season against Murray and Dawson Springs. 14. Fulton City – Coach Jon Dillard 2017-18 record: 1-21 Week’s Record: 0-3 Last Week’s Rank: 14 The Bulldogs woes continue as their losing streak is now at 21 games. District seedings are starting to work themselves out this week in Region 2 play. However District 8 still is up in the air and can actually finish in a 3 way tie. If Hopkinsville wins both games this week and UHA defeats Christian County, we have the 3 way tie. If Christian County defeats UHA, they will win the District. If UHA wins both of their games, they will win the district if Christian County loses, otherwise they will tie…its crazy. 1. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall 2017-18 record: 14-6 Week’s Record:4-0 Last Weeks Rank: 1 The Colonels seemed to have found their stride again, his name is Detorrian Ware. The way Ware is playing right now, he has to be considered for Mr. Basketball. After putting up 51 against Hopkinsville last week, he put up 24, 35, and 45 in wins against Franklin Simpson, UHA, and Henderson County. Now, without Ware, the Colonels might not even be a top 5 team in Region 2. If teams ever figure out how to shut him down (big if), then it would be an almost certain loss for Christian County. That being said, Henderson almost pulled the biggest upset of the year in Region 2 as they took the Colonels into overtime before bowing out. CCHS ends the year with some tough competition. They host UHA before traveling to Hoptown, Muhlenberg, and Bowling Green. 2. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse 2017-18 record: 14-6 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Weeks Rank: 2 The Blazers lost the continuation game against Christian County 84-75. Tandy scored 35 points, but they couldn’t stop CCHS’s D.Ware. They were able to turn around and defeat Bowling Green 83-75. At one point UHA led by 25 points. Now UHA has the opportunity to take back District 8 from Christian County. They play the Colonels again this week before traveling to Hopkinsville to take on the Tigers. They could be in sole possession of 1st place after this, or tied for first, or 3rd place. Crazy week. 3. Hopkinsville – Coach Tim Haworth 2017-18 record: 11-11 Week’s Record: 3-0 Last Weeks Rank: 4 How much has Shorty Cager meant to this Tiger team? They are 5-1 since his return. They have scored less than 80 points only once, and that was a win against Graves County. They destroyed the three teams they played this week, Logan Co., Trigg Co, and Todd County Central. Johnson seems to be finding his stride as he scored 20+ points in all 3 of those games. The real test comes this week. 2 home games against University Heights and Christian County. If they win those 2, they could either finish 1st or 2nd in the district. Lose either one, and they will be the 3rd seed. 4. Madinsonville North Hopkins – Coach Matt Beshear 2017-18 record: 16-8 Week’s Record: 1-2 Last Weeks Rank: 3 Madisonville made some huge strides this year coming together as a team to really impress. The last couple weeks have not been as pretty. The Maroons lost at home to Owensboro Catholic and then lost bad to McCracken County as well. They were able to defeat Caldwell County. This is not the time of year to not be improving, but that is what is seemingly happened to this team. They have found themselves now looking up at the 3 District 8 teams in the region. However, this team still has the talent and ability to pull the upset come region tournament time. 5. Henderson County – Coach Tyler Smithhart 2017-18 record: 10-10 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Weeks Rank: 5 Henderson County defeated Union County 61-54 and then almost pulled off a huge upset of Christian County in double overtime. They lost 92-84 as too much D. Ware did them in. It was a valiant effort led by 22 from Dajaun Simpson and 19 from Jadal Fletcher. If the Colonels can continue this type of play, there may be some surprises yet come regional tournament. Henderson will play Livingston Central, Apollo, Hopkins County Central, and Madisonville this week. The game against the Maroons is a battle of the best of the non-District 8 teams. 6. Webster County – Coach Jon Newton 2017-18 record: 14-9 Week’s Record: 2-1 Last Weeks Rank: 6 Not sure what to think of the Trojans at this point in the year. They could go out and upset the top team in the district, then turn around and lose to the last place team in the district. They played pretty well this week in beating Hardin County, IL and Fort Campbell, but then lost to Union County on their home floor. While Union has a formidable team, that is not a game you want to lose this time of year. Webster will have 2 games this week against Hopkins Central and Madisonville. We’ll see which team shows up this week. 7. Hopkins County Central – Coach Lee James 2017-18 record: 12-8 Week’s Record: 1-0 Last Weeks Rank: 7 The Storm had a great game from both Tylan Mann (23) and Keyairreon Hobgood (21) in their win over Caldwell County 88-71. They will play Webster Co., Lyon Co., Caldwell Co., and Henderson County this week. Lots of play in region 2. 8. Livingston Central – Coach Bill McNamara 2017-18 record: 16-10 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Weeks Rank: 9 The Cardinals have made a big push at the end of this season. They have played very well and they ran into a difficult situation this week. They had to play Marshall County in the first game since the tragedy 2 weeks ago. It was a very emotional game at Marshall and the game ended up going into overtime where LC lost 61-59. They bounced back to defeat Crittenden County 61-42 in their other game. They will play Henderson Co and Hickman Co this week before heading into the last week of the season. 9. Union County – Coach Shane Smith 2017-18 record: 11-13 Week’s Record: 2-1 Last Weeks Rank: 8 Union is another team that has been up and down throughout the year. This week they played Henderson tough before bowing out 61-54. They turned around to defeat Webster County and McLean County. Logan Thomas continues to impress and is still averaging a double/double (19.4/11.5) on the season. Union has 3 games remaining in the season. Hardin County, IL, Lyon co. and Caldwell Co. 10. Hopkinsville, and Lyon Co. They were able to defeat Fulton City 65-29. They will play Todd County Central, Caldwell County this week. 11. Caldwell County – Coach Daniel Kukahiko 2017-18 record: 9-12 Week’s Record: 0-2 Last Weeks Rank: 10 Caldwell County lost to Hopkins County Central and Madisonville this week. They play more games than any most other teams these last two weeks (7 games). They will play Dawson Springs, Crittenden Co, Hopkins County Central and Trigg Co this week 12. Lyon County – Coach Jeff Embrey 2017-18 record: 6-14 Week’s Record: 2-1 Last Weeks Rank: 14 Lyon had a good week defeating Trigg County and Fort Campbell, but took a loss to St. Mary. They will play Hopkins County Central and Union County this week. 13. Crittenden County – Coach Denis Hodge 2017-18 record: 5-14 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Weeks Rank: 15 The Rockets were unable to notch a win this week in games versus Livingston Central and Todd County Central. They will try again this week against Caldwell County and St. Mary. 14. Dawson Springs – Coach Chad Burgett 2017-18 record: 7-14 Week’s Record:2-1 Last Weeks Rank: 15 The Panthers dropped to the last spot in region 2 and responded by winning 2 games and having their first winning week of the season. They defeated Fort Campbell and Frederick Fraize. They now have to play 8 games in the remaining 11 days to finish out the season. 15. Fort Campbell – Coach Stacey Harrell 2017-18 record: 3-16 Week’s Record: 0-3 Last Weeks Rank: 14 Just when the Falcons got out of the cellar in Region 2, they lose 4 games in one week including to the last place team, and they find themselves there again. It was a tough week as the closest game was a loss to Lyon County by 10 points. Player of the Week Dajaun Simpson, Henderson County, scored 22 points in a 2OT loss to Christian County.

Games all over the region featured tough tight games and produce upsets and heartbreaks. The Region 1 favorites Paducah Tilghman who have been number 1 since week 1 are knocked from their perch and dropped to 3rd place. McCracken has moved up to 2nd and Mayfield now holds the top spot after escaping a close one. There are 4 legit teams that can win Region 1 and make a splash at Rupp. Another 2 weeks and we will find out who. 1. Mayfield – Coach Chris Guhy BGP #17 2017-18 record: 20-5 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Week’s Rank: 2 While Paducah Tilghman was losing their 1st two games in district play, Mayfield was trying to avoid a huge upset themselves. They however were able to pull out a 67-62 win in overtime against Calloway County at home. The game should have never been that close. Neither should the second game they played against Ballard Memorial. They won that 79-64, which seems good, except the week before they beat them 70-21 on a neutral court. This game was at home. Graves County is playing really well right now and Mayfield will play host to them on Feb 9. Can they get out of their slump or will the Cardinals lose their first game in Region 1. 2. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower 2017-18 record: 19-5 Week’s Record: 4-0 Last Week’s Rank: 4 Jan 6, that is the date the Mustangs lost their last game to Apollo. Since then McCracken has rolled of 8 straight wins including wins against Marshall and Graves (2 of the regions top 5 teams). This week they took down number 1 in Paducah Tilghman. They walked into a hostile environment against their rivals and smacked them in chin 65-55. They look unbeatable right now and maybe the best team in the region. Just to prove their point, they whooped a very good Madisonville team 57-41 on a neutral site. They rematch with Paducah Tilghman will be on Feb 9. If they win that game, they may move up to the number 1 spot. 3. Paducah Tilghman – Coach Roderick Thomas 2017-18 record:16-7 Weeks record: 1-2 Last Week’s Rank: 1 Paducah Tilghman played 2 important games this week against Graves County and McCracken County. They lost both. The Tilghman team from last year showed up this week. They didn’t look like they have most of the year. No killer instinct, just going through the motions. While Reed did have 19 points against the McCracken, he wasn’t the presence he normally is. The Tornado had a consolation win against St. Mary. The Tornado will have to right the ship as they have now given confidence to two teams going into the Region 1 tournament. 4. Graves County – Coach Joshua Frick 2017-18 record: 18-7 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Week’s Rank: 3 Graves County had a great recovery week after losing 2 games last week. First they took down the Region’s top team in Paducah Tilghman. Trevor Grant paced the Eagles with 18 and Jordyn Naranjo and Ryan Mathis added 16 and 15 respectively. In their second game, it took overtime to defeat Marshall County. Again Grant, Mathis, and Naranjo led the Eagles. Graves is playing well without their top scorer (Savage). If he gets healthy by the Regional tournament, Graves will be a very tough out. 5. Marshall County – Terry Birdsong 2017-18 record: 10-8 Week’s Record: 0-0 Last Week’s Rank: 5 Marshall County had their very first game since the tragedy took place. Livingston Central came to Marshall County in a very emotional environment. Fittingly the game was a fantastic one and the Marshalls won in overtime 61-59. They then went to Graves County and played another overtime game, but this time on the losing end 60-55. They had another game that almost went into overtime against Russellville. Fortunately they hung on to win 58-56 without going into OT. It will still be a tough rest of the season for the Marshalls, but they will push through and have the potential to be a factor come tournament time. They play Murray, Calloway Co., St. Mary and Crittenden this week in preparation for Region favorite Mayfeild. 6. They lost to Carlisle Co, Massac County, IL, and Mayfield. They did defeat CCA who haven’t won a game this year. Some good news is the game against was closer than anyone thought it would be. Things don’t get easier with Graves County and a rematch against Carlisle this week. 7. Murray – Coach Dior Curtis 2017-18 record: 11-12 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Week’s Rank: 6 Murray defeated St. Mary easily and then defeated Calloway County who they lost to last week. Charvelle McCallister led the Tigers with 15 points in the win. Murray will play Marshall County, Hickman County, and UHA this week. 8. Fulton County – Coach Jamie Madding 2017-18 record: 12-10 Week’s Record: 3-0 Last Week’s Rank: 11 The Pilots have won 9 games since the new year began. They won 3 more games this week against Carlisle, Hickman, and Lake County, TN. They are playing confident basketball and could very well be the best of the mid tier teams in Region 1. 9. Carlisle County – Coach Brian O’Neil 2017-18 record: 11-12 Week’s Record: 2-1 Last Week’s Rank: 7 The Comets lost big to a surging Fulton County, but then defeated Fulton City and Community Christian. They play Calloway County, Fulton County again, and Ballard Memorial this week. 10. Calloway County – Coach Brad Cleaver 2016-17 record: 9-13 Week’s Record: 0-2 Last Week’s Rank: 7 Calloway played a fantastic game against Mayfield. They took the top team in the district into overtime at Mayfield. Coach Cleaver has to be excited about the way his team played even though they lost. Unfortunately that didn’t carry over into their game against Murray as they lost that game as well. They play McCracken County, Carlisle and Marshall County this week. 11. Hickman County – Coach Jimmy Long 2017-18 record: 9-16 Week’s Record: 2-2 Last Week’s Rank: 11 Hickman lost to Christian Fellowship and Fulton County, while defeating Lake County, TN and Fulton City. They play Livingston Central, CCA, and Murray this week. 12. St. Mary – Coach Greg Overstreet 2017-18 record: 8-16 Week’s Record: 2-2 Last Week’s Rank: 13 St. Mary had a decent run this week winning two games against Christian Fellowship and Lyon Co. while losing to Murray and Paducah Tilghman. 13. Christian Fellowship – Coach Tyler Ryan 2017-18 record: 9-11 Week’s Record: 2-1 Last Week’s Rank: 13 The Eagles continue having their surprising season as they defeated Hickman Co and CCA. However they had a bad game in losing big to St. Mary. 14. Fulton City – Coach Jon Dillard 2017-18 record: 1-18 Week’s Record: 0-3 Last Week’s Rank: 14 The Bulldogs woes continue as their losing streak is now at 18 games. They lost 2 more games this week. 15. Community Christian Paducah – Coach Daniel Durrett / Rhet McMullen 2017-18 record: 0-21 Week’s Record: 0-2 Last Week’s Rank: 15 Hoping the Warriors will get a win this season. Best chance maybe the last game of the year against Fulton City. Player of the Week Trevor Grant, Graves County – scored 18 points including 3 three pointers in handing Paducah Tilghman its first Region loss of the year.

Region 2 first big game between Christian County and Hopkinsville was a dandy, with County getting the upper hand in game one. The last two seasons, these teams played 4 times. Will it be the same this year, or will University Heights get in someone’s way. We have 3 weeks left until we find out! 1. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall *BGP #20 2017-18 record: 11-6 Week’s Record:1-1 Last Weeks Rank: 1 An up and down week for the Colonels, but one they will take. They lost big to Castle, IN 81-51. They didn’t play well at all and seemed outmatched the entire time. The opposite can be said in their rivalry game against an improving Hopkinsville team. After being down 12 midway through the 2nd quarter, Christian County pummeled the Tigers with a relentless portion of Detorrion Ware. Ware scored 51 points leading the Colonels to a 105-92 victory at home. They now will have to turn around and play Franklin-Simpson and complete the postponed game with University Heights before hosting Trigg County and Henderson County. The game against UHA will decide who is number 1 in the region, and who holds the number 1 seed in District 8 for the moment. To say the game is big is an understatement. 2. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse 2017-18 record: 13-5 Week’s Record: 0-1 Last Weeks Rank: 2 The Blazers lost their only game this week to Lexington Christian in the All “A” State Tournament. They did not look very good at all when the spotlight showed. They had no answer for LCA’s size underneath and it didn’t seem like KyKy Tandy could ever get anything going, even as he scored 20 points. It could be a reflection of how down region 2 is this year, being that UHA is considered the 2nd best team in the Region 2, in fact, some think they are the best team in region 2. We will see, their next four games are brutal. Christian County, at Bowling Green, at Christian County, at Hopkinsville. Tough, tough stretch for the Blazers. They can rebound and prove themselves, or fall from glory as quick as they rose. 3. Madinsonville North Hopkins – Coach Matt Beshear 2017-18 record: 15-6 Week’s Record: 2-1 Last Weeks Rank: 3 After not playing a game for almost 2 weeks, Madisonville was able to play 3 of them. They defeated Lyon County and Hopkins County Central, but lost in a good game against a very good Owensboro team. Ksuan Casey and Cade Cunningham continue to lead the Maroons, but Kenny White has been stepping up his game and has been a huge contributor. He lead the team in scoring 2 of the last 3 games including a 24 point performance against HCC. He is now averaging almost 13 ppg on the year. MNH will play host to Owensboro Catholics and Caldwell County this week. They will also play a tough McCracken County team on a neutral floor. 4. Hopkinsville – Coach Tim Haworth 2017-18 record: 8-11 Week’s Record: 2-1 Last Weeks Rank: 3 Hopkinsville finally got some good news. Shorty Cager is now on the floor and he immediately changed the team. The Tigers blew the doors off of Ohio County at Ohio County 84-43. Cager had 15 points in his debut. Jalen Johnson led the team with 20. Cager then scored 35 points to lead HHS in an impressive win against Graves County. The feel good story ended though with a difficult defeat to rival Christian County. Cager still led the Tigers in the loss, but allowing CCHS to score 105 is surprising for a Haworth team so focused on defense and pressing. They will get more chances to defeat the Colonels later in the month. For now, the Tigers may very well be the best team in the state with a below .500 record. 5. Henderson County – Coach Tyler Smithhart 2017-18 record: 9-9 Week’s Record: 2-2 Last Weeks Rank: 5 Henderson County were quite busy this week on the court. They won both their Region 2 games and lost both games to Region 3 teams. The Colonels were able to defeat Union County and Webster County, solidifying their place in the rankings. However they lost to Daviess County and then to Ohio County, who earlier in the week got blown out by Hopkinsville. This shows that while they are solidly in 5th place in the region, they most likely aren’t on the same level as the 4 teams above them. They will play Christian County and Hopkinsville this week…we will find out. 6. Webster County – Coach Jon Newton 2017-18 record: 12-6 Week’s Record: 0-0 Last Weeks Rank: 6 The last game the Trojans played before all the snow messed up schedules happened to be a 20 point loss to Henderson County. They had a chance to avenge that loss this past week, and they almost did. They fell just short, losing 56-55. They also lost to a good Todd County Central team 60-37. 7. Hopkins County Central – Coach Lee James 2017-18 record: 11-8 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Weeks Rank: 7 The Storm beat up on Dawson Springs to the tune of 85-66. Tyler Mann scored 25 to pace HCC. Madisonville then did the same to the Storm defeating them 82-64. They have some winnable games this week against Caldwell county, Ohio County, and Butler County. They will have to bring their A game though. 8. Livingston Central – Coach Bill McNamara 2017-18 record: 15-9 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Weeks Rank: 9 The Cardinals have been playing so well lately. They defeated St. Mary and Union County this week. They have worked their way up the rankings and if they continue to play like this, they will continue to rise. They have a very emotional game to open this week. Livingston will open play at Marshall County. This will be the first game for the Marshalls since the tragedy earlier last week. It is anticipated there will be a pretty good crowd at the game. 9. Union County – Coach Shane Smith 2017-18 record: 9-12 Week’s Record: 2-2 Last Weeks Rank: 8 Union lost a couple good games at Henderson County and at Livingston Central. They were able to defeat Crittenden County and Trigg County this week as well. Logan Thomas continues to be a beast down low averaging 20 ppg and 12 rpg for the season. 10. Trigg County – Coach Payton Croft 2017-18 record: 9-6 Week’s Record: 0-0 Last Weeks Rank: 11 Trigg County is starting the play well again They have won 3 of their last 4 and 6 of their last 8. They defeated Caldwell County and Fulton City this week, but did take a loss to Union County at home. They will play Lyon County before 2 very tough games against Christian County and Hopkinsville. 2 games they will most likely be outmatched. 11. Caldwell County – Coach Daniel Kukahiko 2017-18 record: 9-10 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Weeks Rank: 10 Caldwell County lost to Trigg County 51-48 in Cadiz, and then defeated Lyon County 52-44. They will play Hopkins County Central and Madisonville this week. 12. Lyon County – Coach Jeff Embrey 2017-18 record: 4-13 Week’s Record: 1-2 Last Weeks Rank: 14 Lyon lost to Madisonville and Caldwell County, but defeated Dawson Springs handily. Lyon Co has been playing better basketball and could really prove that this week as they play host to Trigg County, Ft. Campbell, and St. Mary, all winnable games.. 13. Crittenden County – Coach Denis Hodge 2017-18 record: 5-12 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Weeks Rank: 15 The Rockets lost to Union County before defeating Ft. Campbell. They have now won 5 games on the year. They will play Livingston Central, Dawson Springs, and Todd County Central this week. 14. Fort Campbell – Coach Stacey Harrell 2017-18 record: 3-12 Week’s Record: 0-3 Last Weeks Rank: 12 The Falcons hung on to defeat an improving Christian Fellowship team while losing to Crittenden County. The will play Clarksville Christian, Dawson Springs, Lyon County, and Webster County this week. Will be a busy week. 15. Dawson Springs – Coach Chad Burgett 2017-18 record: 5-13 Week’s Record:1-2 Last Weeks Rank: 11 The Panthers defeated winless Community Christian however they lost by 20 to both Hopkins County Central and Lyon County. This team is struggling this season They have a busy week playing McClean County, Ft. Campbell, Crittenden and Frederick Fraize. They can get things back on track with a couple wins. Player of the Week Detorrian Ware, Christian County, scored 51 points in the win against Hopkinsville.

This was the first game for the Marshall since the tragedy last week. It happened to be at Marshall as well. A very emotional night for everyone there. Then one of the best games of the year took place. Something everyone will remember.

BluegrassPreps.com 1st Region Boys Basketball Review Week 9 There are times when basketball is the focus of all attention, then there are times where basketball doesn’t seem to matter at all. This past week, basketball became the latter throughout Kentucky, but more so in Region 1. After the tragedy at MCHS, teams from all around Western Ky gathered to pray and show support for the Marshall Family. That even spilled over to the basketball court where rivalries were laid aside and student sections were filled with blue and orange to show their support. It was an reminder that sports aren’t everything, but can be something that help bring people together in times of tragedy. 1. Paducah Tilghman – Coach Roderick Thomas BGP #15 2017-18 record:15-5 Weeks record: 0-1 Last Week’s Rank: 1 Paducah Tilghman played only 1 game this week and that was against Centralia, IL which they lost in a very close game 61-59. Rodriguez Thomas led the Tornado with 18 points and Reed added 15 and Harmon got 10. Paducah Tilghman plays 2 important games this week against Graves County and McCracken County. Both games could have big meaning come district and region play, not to mention rankings. Tilghman has taken care of business this year and one would expect nothing less this week. 2. Mayfield – Coach Chris Guhy BGP #17 2017-18 record: 18-5 Week’s Record: 3-1 Last Week’s Rank: 2 Mayfield had a good week in winning the 1st Region All “A” Classic and then going on to the semifinals of the State Tournament. They easily defeated Green County in a night where they didn’t play very well. They were able to survive a big comeback from Somerset to win 68-64, but they couldn’t hang with Walton-Verona as they lost 56-38. It was a good tournament, but the Cardinals were disappointed with anything less than winning the tournament. They will play a fairly easy schedule this week against Calloway County and Ballard Memorial. 3. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower 2017-18 record: 15-5 Week’s Record: 3-0 Last Week’s Rank: 4 McCracken had a fantastic week and defeated Carlisle County, St. Mary, and then Graves County. Their winning streak now sits at 4 games. The Mustangs got huge games from Nathan Stonecipher (24) , Cameron Cartwright (21), and Jackson Sivills (19) in the win over Graves. Pair this win with the impressive victory over Christian County, and this team is edging their way closer to competing for the Region 1 title. Friday’s game at Paducah Tilghman is huge for MC. If they win that game, they may find themselves a top the standings in Region 1. For now they will have to settle for the 3rd best team in the region. 4. Graves County – Coach Joshua Frick 2017-18 record: 16-7 Week’s Record: 1-2 Last Week’s Rank: 3 Graves looked great in winning the Superman Classic tournament, but the reality of losing Savage took its toll this week as Graves lost two games in one week for only the second time this year. They lost to Hopkinsville 70-62 and McCracken County 71-79. Sandwiched between those two losses what a 52-34 win against Calloway Co. To understand the difference Savage, Graves leading scorer, makes, just a few weeks ago Graves handled McCracken 54-40. Things don’t get easier for them this week as they will host Paducah Tilghman and Marshall County. 5. Marshall County – Terry Birdsong 2017-18 record: 10-8 Week’s Record: 0-0 Last Week’s Rank: 5 Marshall County suffered a devastating blow when a 15 year old student opened fire in the commons area of Marshall County High School. 2 students were killed and another 17 students were injured. This will stay with the players, coaches, students, and faculty for the rest of their lives. All games were cancelled this week as students didn’t return to school until Friday. Please keep the Marshall family in your prayers. Many students will need comfort and time to heal both physically and emotionally from this horrible incident. As of right now, the Marshall basketball team will resume its schedule this week against Livingston Central, Graves County, and Russellville. However, the game pales in comparison to a hurting community. Everyone at BluegrassPreps will be rooting for Marshall County this week. 6. Ballard Memorial – Coach Marla Cooper 2017-18 record: 9-6 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Week’s Rank: 9 Ballard Bombers had such a great week last week, but really struggled this week. After getting blown away in the Region 1 All “A” final 70-21, Ballard went on to beat Hickman County, but then lost to both Fulton County and Carlisle County, although Dequin Donlow had a great game against Carlisle. He scored 31 points and hit 6 three pointers. He kept the game as close as it was. Ballard will try and rebound this week against Massac County, IL before taking on Mayfield…again. That probably won’t be a fun game for the Bombers. 7. Murray – Coach Dior Curtis 2017-18 record: 9-12 Week’s Record: 0-1 Last Week’s Rank: 6 Murray lost a close game to Calloway County 55-48. It is the second straight loss for the Tigers and 3rd in their last 4. They can avenge the loss this Friday as they host Calloway County. They will also play St. Mary as well this week. 8. Carlisle County – Coach Brian O’Neil 2017-18 record: 9-11 Week’s Record: 0-1 Last Week’s Rank: 8 The Comets lost big to a surging McCracken County 76-39 before defeating Ballard Memorial 77-68. Michael Thomason led Carlisle with 26 points. They will play Fulton County, Fulton City, and Community Christian this week. The only game that may cause them trouble is the Fulton County game. 9. Calloway County – Coach Brad Cleaver 2016-17 record: 9-11 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Week’s Rank: 9 Calloway played a great game against Murray defeating the Tigers 55-48 led by 18 points from Garrett Scott and 14 points from Jeremy Darnell. Unfortunately they ran into Graves County later in the week and lost by almost 20. Things don’t get any easier for the Lakers as they will go to Mayfield Tuesday and then they will have a rematch with Murray who will be looking to avenge their loss this past week. 10. Fulton County – Coach Jamie Madding 2017-18 record: 9-9 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Week’s Rank: 10 The Pilots continue their winning ways. They won 2 more games this week, defeating Ballard Memorial and Community Christian. That means Ballard Memorial has won 6 of their last 7 games. The outlook is very encouraging too. They play teams they can beat the rest of the year, with the exception of Mayfield. They could end the year with a very good record. 11. Hickman County – Coach Jimmy Long 2017-18 record: 7-14 Week’s Record: 1-2 Last Week’s Rank: 11 Hickman lost 2 more games before finally defeating Fulton City in the closing seconds. They play Fulton County and Fulton City this week. Could be two more losses. 12.
