  1. UHA got the worst draw of the bunch. However, I think the put up a good fight against LCA before bowing out in the 4th quarter. I really think we will see a Mayfield vs LCA final. Should be a great matchup.
  2. Hoptown Scoring: Cager 29 Johnson 21 Graves Grant 22 Noranjo 19
  3. Grant has 12 points for Graves, Cager has 21 points for Hopkinsville.
  4. After 1st quarter Graves 15 Hoptown 10
  5. Normally Johnson is their best defender. He usually has played that role in the past, however, with his injury, not sure they will do that.
  6. He needed 35 to get it and did against Ballard in the 1st Region All "A" Classic Finals. Congrats Connor.
  7. We will see how good Graves is without Savage in their game against Hopkinsville. Now that Hoptown has everyone back and fairly healthly, are they back on track. Their record won't be top 20 worthy this season, but they will be good down the stretch I imagine. If Graves pulls out that win, I feel they should be a top 20 team.
  8. I heard the same, but nothing official yet. I would understand why as that is a lot of basketball for Mayfield.
  9. BluegrassPreps.com 1st Region Boys Basketball Review Week 8 Weather cancelled some games this week, but the All “A” Classic still was able to get going. Mayfield looks to win and make a splash at the State level as well. This week also puts 2 teams, Mayfield (17) and Paducah Tilghman (15) in the BlueGrassPreps Top 20. Congrats to both of those teams, it is well deserved. Speaking of, if you are in Western Ky on Tuesday, Jan 23, head over to Paducah and watch those two matchup for the first time this year. Should be a dandy! 1. Paducah Tilghman – Coach Roderick Thomas BGP #15 2017-18 record:15-4 Weeks record: 1-1 Last Week’s Rank: 1 Paducah Tilghman played one of their worst games this year in a lopsided 59-41 loss against Carbondale, IL at the Superman Classic. They came back and played one of their best games of the year as they defeated a good Charleston, Mo team. Michael Laster and Rodriguez Thomas each had 21 as they led the Tornado to a 76-66 victory. The game of the week will take place on Tuesday as Paducah Tilghman will host Mayfield as the top 2 teams in Region 1 battle for the first time this season. They will also play Marshall County this week. 2. Mayfield – Coach Chris Guhy BGP #17 2017-18 record: 15-4 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Week’s Rank: 2 Mayfield took care of business so far in the Region 1 All “A” Classic. They easily defeated Christian Fellowship and Fulton County. They will face Ballard Memorial the day before they go to Paducah Tilghman and then on to the State All “A” Tournament. That is a lot of basketball in a very short period of time. If the Cardinals make the All “A” Finals, they will have played 8 games in 9 days. This is Mayfield’s chance to show the rest of the state they are for real. 3. Graves County – Coach Joshua Frick 2017-18 record: 15-5 Week’s Record: 3-0 Last Week’s Rank: 3 Graves looked great in winning the Superman Classic tournament. It wasn’t without drama either. All 3 games were pretty close. The best game was against Charleston, Mo where the game went into double overtime. The Eagles prevailed, but at a cost, they lost big man Jacob Savage for 6 to 8 weeks with a broken wrist. He was Graves leading scorer and rebounder. While the Eagles played very well in his absence in the championship game, they will miss him dearly over that time period. They will rely heavily on Ryan Mathis and Jordan Noranjo Their first big test will come against an improving Hopkinsville team on Tuesday before playing Calloway County and McCracken County later on in the week. Paducah Tilghman is right around the corner early next week. 4. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower 2017-18 record: 12-5 Week’s Record: 1-0 Last Week’s Rank: 4 McCracken only got one game in this week and it was a great game, although slow. The Mustangs took down Marshall County 39-35. While the McCracken barely took 30 shots in the game, they came away with the victory. The Mustangs will play Carlisle County and St.Mary to warm up for the game against Graves County on Saturday. McCracken lost earlier this month at Graves by 14 points. However without Savage, this game definitely looks winnable. 5. Marshall County – Terry Birdsong 2017-18 record: 10-8 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Week’s Rank: 5 Marshall lost a tough game to McCracken on their home floor. While they tried to slow the game down and actually outshot the Mustangs, they just fell short by 4 points. They really struggled from 3 points range as they only hit 3 of 15 from behind the arc. They turned around and blasted a team from Panama Beach, Fl on Saturday. I wonder what that Florida team thought about all the snow. Marshall county plays some out of state teams sandwiched around a home game against BGP#15 Paducah Tilghman. Look for Marshall to slow the game down again just like it did against McCracken. 6. Ballard Memorial – Coach Marla Cooper 2017-18 record: 9-6 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Week’s Rank: 9 Ballard Bombers are starting to make some noise in Region 1. Coach Cooper has this team playing well against the midlevel tiered teams in the region. They won 2 more games. This time they defeated St. Mary and Murray in the All “A” Classic to reach the finals against Juggernaut Mayfield. They lost to Mayfield by almost 40 points two weeks ago, so don’t anticipate a close game, but it this team worked hard to make the finals. Khalil Griffin scored 20+ points in both games so far in the tournament. It seems the Bombers didn’t expect to make it this far, or they don’t feel they have a chance to win the tournament because they have 3 other games scheduled this week. Hickman, Fulton, and Carlisle. 7. Murray – Coach Dior Curtis 2017-18 record: 9-11 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Week’s Rank: 6 Murray played very well in a 8 point win against Hickman County 65-57. Good balanced scoring carried the Tigers to the win with 3 players in double digits. However they lost a heartbreaker to Ballard Memorial in the semifinals 50-48 with only Noah Merriss scoring in double digits (13). Murray will play Calloway County this week in their only game. 8. Carlisle County – Coach Brian O’Neil 2017-18 record: 8-10 Week’s Record: 0=1 Last Week’s Rank: 7 The Comets lost their only game this week in the All “A” Classic to Fulton County 64-54. They will play McCracken County on Tuesday followed by Ballard Memorial on Saturday. 9. Calloway County – Coach Brad Cleaver 2016-17 record: 8-10 Week’s Record: 1-0 Last Week’s Rank: 8 Calloway also defeated Arnold High (Panama City Beach, FL) after all the roads were cleared from the snow. They will play Murray before a tough 3 games against Graves, Mayfield, and McCracken. 10. Fulton County – Coach Jamie Madding 2017-18 record: 7-9 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Week’s Rank: 12 The Pilots defeated Carlisle County 64-54 in a surprising win. That gave them 4 in a row heading into the quarterfinals against Mayfield. They put up a nice fight, but still fell 75-55. They are improving and look to continue that in a quality matchup with Ballard Memorial this week and then CCA after that. 11. Hickman County – Coach Jimmy Long 2017-18 record: 6-12 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Week’s Rank: 10 Hickman drew Community Christian in the first game of the All “A” Classic and defeated them 68-42. However they ran into a tough Murray team in the quarterfinals and bowed out 65-57. They will play host to South Fulton, Tn and Fulton City this week while traveling to Ballard Memorial. 12. St. Mary – Coach Greg Overstreet 2017-18 record: 6-12 Week’s Record: 0-1 Last Week’s Rank: 11 St. Mary lost to an improving Ballard Memorial team 59-51 in the opening round of the All “A” Classic. They will play Livingston Central and McCracken County this week. 13. Christian Fellowship – Coach Tyler Ryan 2017-18 record: 6-9 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Week’s Rank: 13 The Eagles convincingly won their first All “A” Classic game 59-34 over Fulton City. They have now beat them 3 times this year. Unfortunately they played Mayfield next, and well….76-20. However they bounced back to beat Heritage Academy 68-46. 14. Fulton City – Coach Jon Dillard 2017-18 record: 1-13 Week’s Record: 0-1 Last Week’s Rank: 14 The Bulldogs woes continue as their losing streak is now at 13 games. They lost to Christian Fellowhship for the 3rd time this year. They lost their first two matchups with them by a total of 4 points, this time they lost by 25. Heading in the wrong direction. 15. Community Christian Paducah – Coach Daniel Durrett / Rhet McMullen 2017-18 record: 0-15 Week’s Record: 0-1 Last Week’s Rank: 15 Hoping the Warriors will get a win this season. Best chance is either this week against Dawson or the last game of the year against Fulton City. Player of the Week Khalil Griffin, Ballard Memorial – scored 22 and 20 points leading his team to the finals of the All “A” Classic for Region 1. 1st Region ALL “A” CLASSIC Tournament. Finals BGP #17 Mayfield vs Ballard Memorial
  10. Shorty Cager in his debut for Hopkinsville. Looked like a completely different team than earlier this year. Quite convincing. Jalen Johnson 20 pts Shorty Cager 15 pts James Nicholas 14 pts
  11. Due to the weather, there were not many games this past week. Inclement weather wiped out most of the regular games, however the 2nd Region All "A" Classic was able to play out with University Heights taking the championship as expected. 1. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall 2017-18 record: 10-5 Week’s Record:0-0 Last Weeks Rank: 1 Christian County officially played no games this past week. Their game against UHA was postponed. They will play Castle, IN and then have a big game against Hopkinsville on Friday. 2. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse 2017-18 record: 13-4 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Weeks Rank: 2 The Blazers care of business in the All “A” Classic tournament for Region 2. They easily defeated Dawson Springs 75-39, and won the championship against Livingston Central 78-62. They will play Lexington Christian in the first round of the State All A Classic. This is their 4th straight All A Classic Region 2 Championship. 3. Madinsonville North Hopkins – Coach Matt Beshear 2017-18 record: 13-5 Week’s Record: 0-0 Last Weeks Rank: 5 Madisonville officially played no games this past week. They will play Lyon Co, Owensboro, and Hopkins Central this week. 4. Hopkinsville – Coach Tim Haworth 2017-18 record: 6-10 Week’s Record: 0-0 Last Weeks Rank: 3 Hopkinsville officially played no games this past week. So Shorty Cager’s debut will be Monday against Ohio County, and then they will play Graves County Tuesday. Two important games to get some chemistry before playing at Christian County on Friday. 5. Henderson County – Coach Tyler Smithhart 2017-18 record: 7-7 Week’s Record: 0-0 Last Weeks Rank: 5 Henderson County officially played no games this past week. They will play Union County, Davies County, Webster County, and then Ohio County. Busy week for the Colonels. Should help them get back into a routine after missing so much time. 6. Webster County – Coach Jon Newton 2017-18 record: 12-6 Week’s Record: 0-0 Last Weeks Rank: 6 The Trojans officially played no games this past week. They will play 2 away games at Todd County Central and Henderson County. Maybe they can get back on track after a very up and down season. 7. Hopkins County Central – Coach Lee James 2017-18 record: 10-7 Week’s Record: 2-0 Last Weeks Rank: 7 The Storm officially played no games this past week. They will host Dawson Springs before traveling to Madisonville. Can they pull the upset against the Maroons? Find out Thursday. 8. Union County – Coach Shane Smith 2017-18 record: 7-10 Week’s Record: 0-1 Last Weeks Rank: 8 Union lost at Evansville, In 53-48 in their first game in almost 2 weeks. They will play at Henderson County, Trigg County, and Livingston Central, and host Crittenden County. Will be and important week and busy week for the Union. They can prove a lot with 3 or 4 wins this week. 9. Livingston Central – Coach Bill McNamara 2017-18 record: 13-9 Week’s Record: 2-1 Last Weeks Rank: 9 The Cardinals avenged their loss to Lyon County 59-41 leaving no doubt they are the better team. They then went and beat Caldwell County in the first round of the Region 2 All A Classic before falling in a closer than expected game to University Heights. Livingston Central is showing they are continuing to improve and could cause a few problems come regions. They will play St. Mary and Union County this week. 10. Caldwell County – Coach Daniel Kukahiko 2017-18 record: 8-9 Week’s Record: 1-1 Last Weeks Rank: 10 Caldwell County defeated Crittenden County in the 1st round of the 2nd region All “A” Classic this week. They lost in the second round to Livingston Central. They will play Trigg County and Lyon County this week. They need to win both of those games. 11. Trigg County – Coach Payton Croft 2017-18 record: 9-6 Week’s Record: 0-0 Last Weeks Rank: 13 Trigg County officially played no games this past week. They have won 3 of their last 4 and hope to continue that success this week as they host Caldwell County and Union County. 12. Dawson Springs – Coach Chad Burgett 2017-18 record: 4-11 Week’s Record:1-1 Last Weeks Rank: 11 The Panthers were able to defeat Ft. Campbell in the first round of the All “A” Classic, but then were soundly defeated by eventual tournament winner University Heights. They will play Hopkins Central, Community Christian and Lyon County this week. 13. Fort Campbell – Coach Stacey Harrell 2017-18 record: 2-11 Week’s Record: 0-3 Last Weeks Rank: 12 The Falcons continue to struggle since returning to play after a 3.5 week layoff. They lost 3 more games this week to Dawson Springs, and then 2 teams from Illinois. They will play Crittenden County in their only game this week. However because of the Government Shutdown, the Falcons will not be able to play until it is remedied. 14. Lyon County – Coach Jeff Embrey 2017-18 record: 3-11 Week’s Record: 0-1 Last Weeks Rank: 14 Lyon had their 2 game winning streak snapped by Livingston Central at the All “A” Classic. They will play Madisonville, Caldwell County, and Dawson Springs this week. 15. Crittenden County – Coach Denis Hodge 2017-18 record: 4-11 Week’s Record: 0-1 Last Weeks Rank: 15 The Rockets lost to Caldwell County in the All “A” Classic in their only game this week. They will play Union County and Fort Campbell this week. Player of the Week KyKy Tandy, University Heights, scored 32 points, 6 rebounds, and 5 assists in a win versus Livingston Central in the All “A” Classic Region 2 Championship. ALL “A” CLASSIC Tournament Champion: University Heights
  12. If they don't move it, I would expect that the Mayfield comes out strong in first half and rests a lot of guys in the second half. They should have no problems with Ballard, so they would be able to do that. Even so.....its tough.
  13. According to Joe Jackson, the radio voice for Graves: Jacob Savage who was averaging 12 ppg and 7.5 rpg is out 6-8 weeks after he broke his wrist in Graves County double overtime win against Charleston, Mo. This is a pretty tough loss for the Eagles and Savage has played very well underneath this year. Will be very difficult to compete with Mayfield or Tilghman without Savage.
  14. Nice to see PT come back and play well after such a bad game against Carbondale.
