Scott County / Little Rock Update from Beachball Classic
Scott County led by 16 early in the first half, but they are missing Moreno and it shows. Little Rock has stormed back and the score is 57-54 and the Cardinals look like a shell of themselves.

Scott County 71 Cox Mill (NC) 60
That is unfortunate he will be out that long. I am glad we will see him again before the season is finished. With him out, it does bring the Cardinals a little bit back to the rest of Kentucky, but not enough to see them lose.

Hope the Moreno injury isn't serious

Scott County 95 Socastee (SC) 60
They will need a similar performance to beat Cox Mill. Moreno was the 5th best scorer that night with 8 points. Everyone else stepped up. I imagine that they will focus on Moreno with their big men, so Fluker, Long, and Stewart will have to score.

Scott County 95 Socastee (SC) 60
Cox Mill will be Scott County's biggest test of the year so far. Wendell Moore Jr. is ranked as the ESPN #19 player and has committed to Duke and their other big man committed to UNCC. Cox Mill is ranked #24 in the USAToday Super 25

1st Region Week 4 Review
The top tier of teams has been 4 for all of this season, one more team has been added. Murray has shown that they can hang and even beat any of those top teams given the right circumstances. Mayfield meanwhile is struggling to match last year’s success while Paducah Tilghman again has no consistency to how they play. Meanwhile McCracken continues its Cinderella season now 9-0 and the team nobody is talking about Graves County is still yet to lose to a team in KY. Things are already starting to heat up in Region 1. Here are this week’s rankings: 1. McCracken County – Coach Burlin Brower BGP #11 2018-19 record: 9-0 Week’s Record: 3-0 The Mustangs continue their dominance over Western Kentucky teams. This weeks victims were Ballard Memorial in a blowout, Lyon County in a blowout, and Marshall County in a low scoring affair. Noah Dumas carried the load for the Mustangs leading them in scoring against Ballard Memorial and Lyon. Jackson Sivills did not play against Ballard Memorial. Things may get a little tougher for McCracken as they take the long road trip to Palm Beach, Fl where they will play in the Holiday Basketball Classic. 2. Graves County – Coach Joshua Frick 2018-19 record:9-1 Week’s Record: 2-0 The Eagles won both of their games this week, both against out of state teams. Jordyn Noranjo broke out in both games scoring 22 against Evangelical Christian, TN and then 30 against Cairo, IL. Graves will now head to Bowling Green to face South Warren in the opening day of the Meijer Holiday Classic. The schedule isn’t set after that, however there are some possible tough matchups for the Eagles including Madisonville, Bowling Green, and Murray. 3. Mayfield – Coach Chris Guhy BGP #12 2018-19 record: 6-4 Week’s Record: 3-1 Mayfield had some quality wins this past week and a close loss sandwiched in between. The Cardinals defeated Calloway County, Valley, and Murray, but took a loss to Paducah Tilghman 66-64 on PT’s home court. This makes sense as Mayfield only beat PT by 6 in early Dec in Mayfield. The Cardinals are not nearly as sharp this year as they were last, but don’t count this team out. They have loads of talent and are still gelling after all the football players are getting into gear. Come All “A” and region tournament, they will be a very tough out. 5. Murray – Coach Dior Curtis 2018-19 record: 4-6 Week’s Record: 2-2 Murray has played one tough schedule to open the year. No doubt it has been the most difficult schedule in Region 1, and they are showing they can compete with the region’s best. This week they has an easy win against Christian Fellowship before taking it to Paducah Tilghman on PT’s own floor, 60-53. This moves them up into the #4 spot in the region rankings. They lost to Mayfield 60-51 in a close game and then just missed a win against Valley 70-69. Still doesn’t get any easier for the Tigers, now they travel to Bowling Green to play against BGP #16 Bowling Green in the Meijer Holiday Classic….wow. 4. Paducah Tilghman – Coach Roderick Thomas 2018-19 record: 6-4 Week’s Record: 2-1 Paducah Tilghman has been known the past few seasons as a real Jekyll and Hyde team. That idea of play has not escaped them this year either. They started off winning 3 games, then lost 4 of 5 including to Mayfield, Graves, and Murray. Then something flipped and they defeated a good Valley team and then BPG #12 Mayfield 66-64. Tyus White and Avery Strayhorn, the two PT transfers, have been critical in the Tornado wins. If Coach Thomas can keep those two involved then Tilghman can do some damage in region 1. 6. Marshall County – Terry Birdsong 2018-19 record: 4-6 Week’s Record: 0-2 Marshall County didn’t fair well in the tournament in Washington DC lost 2 of the games, but they were in both games, they just couldn’t close them out. They lost 7 and 6. Their reward for the tournament, playing BGP #11 McCracken County. They once again played them close, but couldn’t pull out a win as they lost their 3rd straight. They now host the Marshall County Holiday Classic in which they will play Hopkins Central, Valley, and Apollo, all teams they can beat and get back on the winning track. 7 Carlisle County – Coach Brian O’Neil 2018-19 record: 7-4 Week’s Record: 1-1 The Comets lost to Caldwell County 73-56 while defeating Vienna, IL 65-57. They will play in the Magnolia Bank Holiday Classic starting Thursday where they face BGP#5 LaRue County first, before getting Muhlenberg County and Louisville Collegiate. 8. Calloway County – Coach Brad Cleaver 2018-19 record: 2-8 Week’s Record: 0-3 The Lakers have now lost 8 of their last 9 games, although only 3 of them have been to region 1 opponents and those happened to be the top 3 teams in the region. Their schedule will get a little easier starting this Thursday as they play Livingston Central, Christian Fellowship, and Fulton County. 9. Fulton County – Coach Jamie Madding 2018-19 record: 2-4 Week’s Record: 0-1 The Pilots lost to Humboldt, TN 104-73. They will play Christian Fellowship, Calloway County, and Livingston Central this week. 10. St. Mary – Coach Greg Overstreet 2018-19 record: 5-5 Week’s Record: 2-1 St. Mary is another team that is tough to figure out region 1. They had a big win at Trigg County before losing to Adair County. They will play in the Carbondale Holiday Classic starting Thursday. 11. Community Christian Paducah – Coach Daniel Durrett 2018-19 record: 4-6 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Warriors have now won more game this year than the last three years combined. They took down Hickman County and Danville Christian before losing to Burgin. 12. Hickman County – Coach Wynn Harris 2018-19 record: 4-8 Week’s Record: 1-3 Hickman took a tough loss to Community Christian before defeating Piggott, AR and then losing back to back games to Trigg County, neither being a close game. They will not play again until June 4 against Carlisle County 13. Ballard Memorial – Coach Marla Cooper 2018-19 record: 2-6 Week’s Record: 0-1 The Bombers took a beatdown against McCracken County. They will play again in the Stewart County Christmas Classic in TN. They have lost 4 in a row. 14. Fulton City – Coach Jon Dillard 2018-19 record: 2-8 Week’s Record: 0-3 Fulton City lost all 3 games they played this week including to Butler County and Lyon County. They will play in the West KY Hoops Classic against Caldwell County on Thursday.

2nd Region Week 4 Review
Holiday Tournaments are in full swing. For a lot of teams it is the first time this year they will play back to back games, some teams may even have to play twice in the same day. It is hard to judge teams because of this. They may not be quite prepared to play with such turn around games so close. Regardless, UHA saw their first losses of the year and Madisonville had some scares. Only real change on this weeks ranking is Union County moving up a few spots. Here are the rankings: 1. University Heights Academy – Coach Grant Shouse BGP#3 2018-19 record: 6-2 Week’s Record: 2-2 The Blazers didn’t have as good a run at the King of the Bluegrass tournament as they would have liked. They suffered their first loss of the season to BGP #7 Lexington Christian 63-51. It was a poor offensive showing for UHA. Tandy led with 19 points, but no one else saw double digit scoring. They rebounded to defeat BGP#5 LaRue County 68-65 and BGP #20 Louisville Male 67-65. The ended the tournament getting scorched by Evanston, Illinois 95-63. The Blazers will move forward this weekend in the Traditional Bank Holiday Classic at Lexington Catholic. They will open play against Frederick Douglass. 2. Madisonville North Hopkins – Coach Matt Beshear 2018-19 record: 7-4 Week’s Record: 3-2 Madisonville played a full schedule this past week. They survived a scare at Christian County needing Overtime to defeat the Colonels 69-64. They went on the split their games at the King of the Bluegrass Tournament losing to BGP #19 Collins 55-51, and Brentwood Academy out of Nashville 72-57. They defeated Fairdale 67-56 and BGP #7 Lexington Christian 50-35, showcasing a great defensive effort. Ksuan Casey made the King of the Bluegrass all-tournament team for the Maroons. Madisonville will continue their Holiday Tournament schedule Dec 27 in Bowling Green at the Meijer Holiday Classic. 3. Hopkinsville – Coach Larry Miller 2018-19 record: 8-3 Week’s Record: 3-1 The Tigers look like they are improving every week. They played in the Owensboro Invitational Tournament winning their first three games against Owensboro, Monroe County, and Owensboro Catholic. They looked pretty good in all three games, really showcasing a defensive effort. They continued that great defense against John Hardin, but ultimately lost by one point 45-44. This is not the Tiger teams of the past that scored 80+ points a game, they do not have the high powered offense they had in the past under Tim Haworth. Instead they play intense defense and try to get enough offense to win the game. Hopkinsville plays next at the Machens Great 8 Classic in Jefferson City, Missiouri. 4. Caldwell County – Coach Daniel Kukahiko 2018-19 record: 7-3 Week’s Record: 3-1 The Tigers played in the Limestone Bank Christmas Classic at Butler County this week. They lost the first game they played 77-64 to Logan County. They rebounded however to defeat Franklin Simpson 67-63, and Butler County 67-65. The Logan County game was the toughest opponent, and it was thought the game would be closer than it was. Caldwell seemed to struggle a little bit with teams in this tournament. Let’s hope they can get some confidence back as they host the West KY Hoops Classic. 5. Christian County – Coach Kerry Stovall 2018-19 record: 4-5 Week’s Record: 1-2 The Colonels have had a rough go of it the past few games dropping 3 of their last 4. This week they lost in overtime to Madisonville North-Hopkins. If they could have pulled that off, it would have been quite the upset. They also were defeated by First Love Christian Academy from Pennsylvania before getting back in the win column 69-50 versus Floyd Central. Christian County will play in the Poplar Bluff Showdown starting on Dec 27. 6. Webster County – Coach Jon Newton 2018-19 record: 8-3 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Trojans continue their sporadic up and down play. Webster came out and defeated Livingston Central 53-44, but then two days later lost to a struggling Franklin Simpson team, before putting a hurt on a one loss Logan County team. Not really sure what to make of this team right now. Webster will try to get things straight as they play at the Hilliard Lyons Holiday Hoop Classic in Danville. They are very capable of winning all 3 games they play (Danville, Metcalfe Co, Whitefield Academy), However the Danville game will be their biggest test. 7. Henderson County – Coach Tyler Smithhart 2018-19 record: 7-3 Week’s Record: 2-2 Henderson County started the year winning their first 5 games, they have now lost 3 of the last 5 as they play some tougher competition. They defeated Crittenden Co to start the week before heading to Bowling Green for the Warren East Holiday Hoops Classic. There they dropped the first two games to Bardstown 61-60 in a close one, and Marion County 74-59. They convincingly won the last game they played against Greenwood 82-46. Off to Allen County to play in the South Central Bank Halton Classic this week. 8. Lyon County – Coach Jeff Embrey 2018-19 record: 8-5 Week’s Record: 2-1 The Lyons were looking really good for a while, but teams from Region 1 really gave them a wake up call. They lost to Carlisle County before getting smacked by BPG#11 McCracken County 64-37. They did rebound nicely by defeating Butler County 62-57 and Fulton City 78-39. Up next for Lyon County is the Stewart County Christmas Classic in Tennessee. 9. Union County – Coach Shane Smith 2018-19 record: 4-3 Week’s Record: 1-0 Union played Hopkins County Central in their only game of the week. Kale Gaither scored 20 to lead to Braves to the 60-49 victory. Elex Dunford added 16 points in the win. They will travel to Pinckneyville, IL to faceoff in the Duster Thomas Hoops Classic. 10. Hopkins County Central – Coach Lee James 2018-19 record: 4-5 Week’s Record: 2-2 Hopkins County split their games this week defeating McLean County and Franklin-Simpson while losing to Union County and Logan County. Both the wins were close games. Blasin Moore had 29 and Tylan Mann had 27 in the win over McLean. While four different players scored in double digits in the Franklin-Simpson win. They will head to Marshall County to play in the Holiday Classic there. 11. Livingston Central – Coach Chris Green 2018-19 record: 5-6 Week’s Record: 0-1 The Cardinals just played one game against Webster County where they lost 53-44. They will play on the Murray Bank Tipoff Classic starting Thursday in Murray. 12. Trigg County – Coach Payton Croft 2018-19 record: 6-5 Week’s Record: 2-1 Trigg County defeated Hickman County twice in the KME Christmas Classic. The first time they won 50-38, the second time even more convincingly 70-35. They lost to St. Mary however 56-50. They will travel to Illinois to play in the Duster Thomas Hoops Classic nexgt 13. Fort Campbell – Coach Robbie Townsend 2018-19 record: 4-2 Week’s Record: DNP No games this week for the Falcons. They will play in the Zaxby’s Holiday Tournament in Clarksville, TN starting Thursday. 14. Dawson Springs – Coach Chad Burgett 2018-19 record: 4-5 Week’s Record: 0-1 The Panthers lost to McLean County in the only game on the schedule this past week. They start play in the Williamstown Holiday Tournament on Dec 27. 15. Crittenden County – Coach Denis Hodge 2018-19 record: 4-7 Week’s Record: 2-2 The Rockets split 4 games this week, none of them being particularly close. They lost to Henderson County and Trinity Whiteville big, but defeated Eminence and Williamstown big. Next up is the Stewart County Christmas Classic in Tennessee.

I know the DJ injury is huge and probably changed the game, but Collins seem to play great the entire game. Pretty big upset, especially since they lost by 30 two weeks ago.
