They did win quite a few games last year but they played a weak schedule. I think that was mostly because Coach Conder knew he was going to have a really young team so he didn't schedule as tough, similar to what Shelby did for a few years. Pretty much everyone is back and I think having a new coach will help them a lot. Conder was a great guy but really didn't seem to know much about coaching. Collins will play quite a few freshman but also have 3 talented seniors in Zantasha King, Whitney Pullen, and Michelle Roberts along with junior forward Hannah Renfro. They should be better this year and continue to improve as the season goes on. I think #5 is a good spot for Collins but I would probably put Anderson over them before Williamstown.

Great job as always. Thanks for sharing. I know it would mean the world to Spencer County to win a district title (like Coach Marksbury said in the article), but honestly I think last year was their best chance. They beat North Oldham, who was literally a play away from the state championship game, but couldn't beat Collins and ended 2nd in the district due to tiebreakers. Now you replace Atherton and Waggener with Franklin County and Shelby County and it gets a whole lot tougher. Spencer County can definitely win a few games in the district but I think last year was their best chance. Not to say they can't win it, because I don't think anyone has clue who will.

Collins certainly didn't start from nothing, they were bound for success from the beginning with a beautiful school and athletic facilities, and being located in an area that will always produce talent. They did have to establish their own traditions and culture of the program, which obviously turned out pretty well. So while they did have to start up a new program, they had plenty to work with. It's a completely different situation than Spencer County. Collins is actually 2-2, not 5-0, but I get your point. Of course Spencer should be excited for this game. They see it as their big chance to finally beat Collins, a program that has had a huge amount of success in a short time. It still remains to be seen if Collins is very good this year or if they still have more rebuilding to do, but Spencer County would love to beat them even if they were 0-10.

Yes he has done a great job at Spencer County. He has built a solid program with lots of fan support in a place that isn't easy to do. They didn't even have a varsity team until 2004 so there wasn't much history to build on. Spencer was 0-11 the year before he took over and after a 5-7 record in his first season, they have had 3 straight winning seasons and are 5-0 to start this year.

That's a great question. I think #10 is fine for now, mostly because who would you put in their place? The next two weeks will tell us a lot at Spencer County and Franklin County at home.

This is the game of the century for Spencer County. They absolutely hate Collins and have never beaten them despite playing them tough in every match-up. Last year a very bad Collins team was able to beat the Bears by forcing them to throw the ball, which resulted in 5 interceptions. However, stopping their run game is no easy task. One thing is for sure, Collins better come up with a better defensive plan than Bullitt Central. All of Taylorsville will be in attendance for this game. They are very excited about this team, as they should be. 5-0 for the first time ever and their best chance to finally knock off Collins. They will have a lot of confidence and momentum heading into this game after dominating a fairly weak non-district schedule. Everything seems to be leaning in their favor. I still don't know what to think about Collins. They shutout a solid Montgomery County team, blew out a bad Bullitt East team, had a close loss to a bad Eastern team (Collins did have key players out with injuries) and got manhandled by a very good Boyle County team. The good news for the Titans is they won't play anyone as good as Boyle the rest of the year. Collins has done fairly well stopping the run. In both losses they were beat through the air and not on the ground. They are going to have to find some way to slow down Spencer County's potent rushing attack in order to have a chance in this one. They are still very young on offense but they've got some pieces to work with. They have a balanced offensive attack with talent at running back and receiver. They can be a bit inconsistent at times though and need to cut down on the turnovers. Each meeting except for one has been a low scoring defensive battle. (21-0, 33-14, 38-35, 21-14, 20-7) Will we see another low scoring game this year?

I agree Franklin's schedule hasn't been much better. However, Shelby hasn't faced a team as athletic as Franklin County and I think they'll have a tough time stopping the Flyers.

Shelby County has been somewhat of a surprise at 5-0. They have been impressive so far, although it has come against weak competition. I'm interested to see how they stack up against Franklin County. I'm thinking the Flyers will win but Shelby could keep it close.
