I understand the rule I just think it only affects certain kids and programs and for sure is bad for softball, it could possible cost you 25% of your season. I KNOW you can play but most teams don't have a stand by coach in waiting for the dead period to hit. I am for less rules and regulations, I really don't have a dog in this fight. The dead period could possible do a lot more harm than good for our student athletes. I can see how the multi sport athlete is affected more by this rule but by saving a few we are affecting others. I can't speak for everyone but as a parent that has a child that played club sports and High school sports, I don't give two shits about the KHSAA if their rules affected my daughter we just would not have played HS sports.

Yes I know the dead period was not to blame at HC, Hell I didn't even know when the dead period was so no we NEVER had to worry about it. I know than can be a spectator but kinda hard on a team to have one coach all year and then the coach have to sit out for 2 weeks bc of dead period. Like I said it's really only affecting softball and baseball, the other sports are not really going during those weeks and the other sports can play more times throughout the year than softball can.

I guess I have been in really bad situstions at Holy Cross in Covington bc we could barley get our coaches to have practice when we should be practicing much less have to worry about some dead periold. Bad part about a dead periold also can be it affects parent coaches also who end up being a lot of our HS and summer ball coaches.

I would say parents have way more to do with the sports being year around than the coaches. Some clubs may be at fault also but still comes down to the parents.

What would be anyones guess on how many kids the dead period even affects? We have so many rules and laws out there that affect such a little number why even bother. I guess people need a reason to keep their jobs so they make laws and rules.

Who cares about your guys field, let me know when you guys pick off new recruit!! Looks great though should be a lot of fun. Let me know if you guys get that beer garden done and I will come to one game this season. It will be when you play HC and I will even wear and off color blue!!

Maybe you need help being a parent I do not so the dead period in my eyes is dumb. Obviously your a liberal and you want to tell other people how to raise their kid. I think parents should decide when and for how long their kids need a break. I do not mind that they have it but why punish one kid or one team that has a HS coach when the softball season is only 8 weeks long. You talk about the money making machine yes they are in it for the money are you going to be willing to give up 25% of your season bc some people got together and said kids need a break. The kids can play anyway so does it really matter who coaches them. College coaches recruit softball players in the summer so if a team has a head coach that also coaches them in HS those kids lose out on 25% of the chances to play in front of coaches. Your ears are open then change the dead period for softball and baseball. Why can't the dead period work while school is in session, the fact of the matter is a lot of these coaches that can not coach during the dead period ARE NOT teachers ie the one that started this thread. Has there ever been any proff that the dead period works or is good for the student athlete? My daughter just finished her 4 years of high school and I couldn't have told you when the dead period was before reading this thread. Again I like the idea of a dead period but makes no sence to punish one group of kids and coaches more than the other. Soccer players main recruiting time is in the spring. They do not have to deal with a dead period in the middle of their season, why should softball? That's right bc some jack off's in Frankfort said so, makes sense to me.

What your missing out on here is that Bat boy is involved in softball. Probably why he posted this in the softball forum. The dead period affect softball and baseball way more than the other sports (I would think) The softball season is only 7 to 8 weeks long. Most teams play every week. If you happen to have a player or two from your HS team on your summer team than your out those 2 weekends. I have no problem with the dead period and maybe think they should have more of them but to put out a date set for each sport where it affect some athletes and coaches more than others just isn't very smart. AAU basketball I believe goes hard from spring to early summer so they are ready for the break by the dead period. Almost zero affect on soccer besides preseason condition.

I just had an almost 10 hour round trip drive for practice. I don't need or want any more kids!!

Wasn't to long ago that almost all teams wore shorts. Don't forget the greatest team in the world wears shorts! (team USA) But yes almost looks funny now to see a team in shorts.

No worries your kid is a cake eater all they care about is sports so no need to count!! I may be wrong bc its not real easy to count on the computer but looks like you guys were 2-2 in bracket play which would have you tied with 16 other teams for 49th. Nice job!! Glad the kid had a nice week.

Pretty sure we won 10 in the losers bracket although I could be wrong...We did all that with only one girl pitching that tourney I believe.
