Pass Thru Tag?

Featured Replies

Are you able to make a tag through a 3rd party?

There's no way the ump could see it at his angle.

This is why I would never be an umpire. :lol2:

Are you saying the girl with the ball in her glove never touched the runner? Why do you say that? In looking at the picture I can't tell if the glove with the ball is touching the runner nor can I tell what happens next.

Basically, YES.

The shortstop had the ball. 2nd base tries to make the play as well, and sort of becomes a shield between the ball and runner.

Our player said she wasn't tagged with the ball.

Watching the play, looked like she was out. At least close enough, in real time, that it could go either way.

Wasn't until I dumped the pictures to my PC and looked at it that I became curious.

No way home plate ump could see it. Would look clean from his angle.

Maybe if there was a field ump, they might have had an angle on it.

The call could have went either way. If you go in standing up on a close one like that, most of the time they'll call you out.

It's rare that those girls will slide. The coach let a couple of the girls pick out the uniforms. Shorts?

Doubt he does that again...

I have no problem with the shorts, that is all I played in growing up. If you wear sliders and a knee pad you will be fine!

20 poles for the girl that didn't slide and 10 for the rest of the team so they know what's expected of them.

The KHSAA is ALWAYS looking for men and women who want to return something to their school and community by becoming a licensed athletic official. Candidates should be at least 18 years old, a high school graduate, in good physical condition, and able to make decisions on their feet and stick to them.

My experience, if the ball beats the runner to the bag and the defender puts the tag on the foot, the runner is out unless it is blatantly obvious that there was a missed tag. I am not sure there is an umpire out there who would have called that girl safe.

The camera angle looks like it is the same angle that the home plate ump would have. Are you saying no way the ump could see the call because he was too far away?

Bottom line for me from looking at your pictures, the girl is out.

I'm not complaining about the call. From most angles the tag was good. Even standing right next to it, would likely have been called out.

There should be about 45 degrees difference in the viewing angle between me around 10' past 3rd and him behind home. From his angle, the runner would be between him and the tag. He couldn't see 2nd base sticking her glove in and actually blocking the shortstops tag.

Our runner claimed that she was not tagged by the shortstop, who had the ball.

Got to slide. Although it looks to me like she would of been called out either way because ball is there tag is low enough. If you slide at least you have a chance! When you see teams wearing shorts you cant help but think they went to a soccer game and a softball game broke out.

Wasn't to long ago that almost all teams wore shorts. Don't forget the greatest team in the world wears shorts! (team USA) But yes almost looks funny now to see a team in shorts.
