Agree x100 Region 9 POY last year was a joke. The coaches don't have a clue. Only know what they hear and where a kid is going to college. Morgan Hentz led or was second at NDA in almost all offensive and defensive categories and was voted MVP by NDA coaches and players, but doesn't get POY and loses to a teammate.

It was a guess, the "she", mainly bc of the many !!!!.... And, for the record, I am also a Coach Isaac fan. She gets the most our of her teams and seems to get them to compete. I will still go with Ryle to win this district though.

Bruce does more for Holy Cross in one week than most football coaches, teachers and even parents do in an entire year. These types of threads kill me....it's high school sports and you people act like they are supposed to be finding the cure for cancer. Gimme a break. Same with Wirth at CCH....unless a coach has done something unethical, illegal or otherwise they should step down when they are ready. Coaches are hard to find...note I didn't say "great coaches" or even "good coaches" just coaches in general. Maybe those who think HC or CCH need a change should put up or shut up and get out there and do it themselves but I am sure they are too busy or don't have the time....

FastForward (and her exclamation points) has been touting Isaac since August 22 as Coach of the Year....she loves her Jags that's for sure.

There is no "voting" MVP....the district champion coaching staff picks MVP. Just FYI because there seems to be a lot of confusion regarding All Tournament Teams. The only ones voted on are the post season awards. District, Region and State All Tourney teams are simply the opinion of the player's own coach.

I don't know the other coaches but Jodi Schmidt is one of the finest people in volleyball. She is dedicated to both her students at Ludlow and her team. She is a Beechwood grad and I would think, beechwood would love to have her, and Jodi could have more "success" there, but she stays at Ludlow and makes small strides with each team she coaches.

So Ryle vs Conner? Cooper vs Boone? Day? Time? Place? When are finals? Thanks.

Don't all teams want to beat all teams? NDA is 9th Region royalty, hence the obsession.

I'm sorry for your team and especially the seniors. Hopefully the match can be rescheduled or your team went ahead and honored the seniors.

The only way NDA loses to one of these teams is if NDA beats itself with hitting, service and reception errors and that just won't happen with this team. They are careful with the ball and hit with power when necessary. They go through the middle so much with Thelen and Salkowski and the 'junk' plays with Hentz, the hitting percentages are very high compared to the last few seasons. If NDA keeps this up, they won't lose in the Region. I know everyone was banking on NDA being down this year with the graduation of all the 'big names' but individual, selfish players are no match for a team of hard working athletes who respect each other and the coaching staff and who also happen to be very high level volleyball players. In my opinion, this year's NDA team would annihilate the 2013 NDA team 10 out of 10 times they play.

I like the throwing around of ideas even if it won't make a difference to the KHSAA. In your first scenario, I simply do not have enough knowledge of who is in each other's districts. I will say this, back in 2004??(really not sure of the year but in the early to mid 2000's) or so, Beechwood and NDA played in the finals of district and then met again the Region 9 final, which NDA won. So if only the top team from that district had gone to Region then Beechwood wouldn't have gone and they ended up coming 2nd in Region. In the second...how would 24 teams work? Would the bracket work or do you need either 16 teams or 32 teams, I am asking because I don't know, I have tried to write a 24 team bracket out and can't get it to work. I love the at-large bid idea...who would pick them and all of that muddies the water but it is a great conversation point. My number one idea is 16 Regions, top two teams advance. The top 4 Regions are seeded to be in opposite ends of the brackets and the rest is blind draw (Right now it would be NDA Region, Mercy Region, Assumption/SHA Region and Tates Creek Region as top 4). Seeds would be based on either in season coaches polls (which would make those matter more and that is kind of scary given the voting that was done early in the year) and/or wins/losses against the field. Region champ, plays a Region runner up in the first round at the Region Champs home court to narrow the field to 16 and those 16 play the State Weekend as they do now. I am sure this is flawed but if I could wave my magic wand and make it happen, I would. Anyone else have ideas?

Eh, I get slapped by the NDA fans for being too critical and slapped by the rest of the region for being confidant. Either way, doesn't matter. NDA wins the 9th unless someone gets hurt, egos take over or an act of God occurs....all possible but barring all, we win the 9th. I LOVED the old state set up where region champion and runner up both went. I think that ended about 10 years ago when the state redid the Regions and made the volleyball state tourney like basketball. Short of adding another weekend to the tournament, or at least games on Thursday, it would be very hard to have 32 teams compete.

Nothing negative was said at all. I have a few volleyball friends from years ago who were there (no current boosters) and they were getting texts of the scores and merely mentioned they heard that Jewell may be sitting. That was it, not sure why they thought that. And once our match got intense we quit talking Mercy and SHA...ha ha I'm sure you understand. I haven't seen much of Assumption this year so I don't know the regular rotation but Elpers and Sauer both played. Admittedly, I didn't pay attention to if they came in and out each rotation but they seemed to play regularly. Assumption junior setter is very good. Your team is still my pick to win it all but I think last night proves any team can win on any given night. Makes for great excitement for volleyball fans. What a shame that our State Tournament set up will prevent either SHA or Assumption from even attending. And the blind draw means Assumption/SHA or NDA are out after the first round. It's really a travesty, this year more than most, when you have four teams who have all competed well and beaten each other in great, high quality matches that the tourney is not seeded so the best four teams end up in the Final Four.

NDA fans were wondering if Mercy was at full strength. We heard some things at our match with AHS.
