Great match to watch as Assumption tops the Pandas. Passing off serve receive has been an issue all season and it was again tonight. Season isn't over and this wasn't a "bad" loss. Need to learn from it and get better. Assumption is hard to beat, let alone at home with the pomp and circumstance of senior night. Hats off to Coach Kordes and staff, once again!

 

Assumption gets the sweep as they win all three levels. NDA JV has had Assumption on the ropes two times this season but can't finish that third game.

 

Frosh Pandas fought hard all season but, overall, were pretty disappointing this season. **should be noted the four best freshmen play significant roles on JV. If they played freshmen, I think our results would've been different. Either way their season ends on a 4 match (I think) losing streak.

Every team does the same thing with freshmen. The good ones play up. It's not just NDA that pulls them up. Plus, I would say that this year's freshmen pandas weren't much different from previous seasons.

Sacred Heart won 3-2 over Mercy at SH 19-25, 25-23, 25-23, 27-25, 15-10. Very tense match from start to finish. Mercy didn't play their best after the first set and SH played very well overall. SH seems to be peaking at the right time.

 

Goodbye #1 national ranking, but maybe this will make it clear to them that everyone is beatable. Would have been nice to finish with an unblemished record, but I think a good loss at a good time.

NDA fans were wondering if Mercy was at full strength. We heard some things at our match with AHS.

Nothing negative was said at all. I have a few volleyball friends from years ago who were there (no current boosters) and they were getting texts of the scores and merely mentioned they heard that Jewell may be sitting. That was it, not sure why they thought that. And once our match got intense we quit talking Mercy and SHA...ha ha I'm sure you understand.

 

I haven't seen much of Assumption this year so I don't know the regular rotation but Elpers and Sauer both played. Admittedly, I didn't pay attention to if they came in and out each rotation but they seemed to play regularly. Assumption junior setter is very good.

 

Your team is still my pick to win it all but I think last night proves any team can win on any given night. Makes for great excitement for volleyball fans.

 

What a shame that our State Tournament set up will prevent either SHA or Assumption from even attending. And the blind draw means Assumption/SHA or NDA are out after the first round. It's really a travesty, this year more than most, when you have four teams who have all competed well and beaten each other in great, high quality matches that the tourney is not seeded so the best four teams end up in the Final Four.

You do mean Assumption/SHA or the 9th region team are out after the 1st round, didn't you? Or did they cancel the regional tournament this year? Please inform me if they did. I was hoping to catch a few games.

Jewell played entire match. Mercy played not to lose and we know how that usually turns out. SH was on a roll and played the best I have sent them play this year.

 

The "blind" draw has always irked me. And this years bracket is especially bad. You've been smacked for assuming ND winning the 9th but I agree with you. Seen several other 9th teams and if ND plays to win, they will. Not too familiar with last years issues, but I can see that ND plays as a team better this year than last.

Eh, I get slapped by the NDA fans for being too critical and slapped by the rest of the region for being confidant. Either way, doesn't matter. NDA wins the 9th unless someone gets hurt, egos take over or an act of God occurs....all possible but barring all, we win the 9th.

 

I LOVED the old state set up where region champion and runner up both went. I think that ended about 10 years ago when the state redid the Regions and made the volleyball state tourney like basketball. Short of adding another weekend to the tournament, or at least games on Thursday, it would be very hard to have 32 teams compete.

Either way, he is right. As an outsider - NO chance anyone from region 9 is upsetting NDA. End of story.

I've seen/heard these 2 ideas talked about and posted before . .

 

1. Stop taking both District winners to Regionals and instead take both Regional winners to State. Have State over 2 weekends, or have Regional winners host 1st round matches against runners-up during week like Soccer does.

 

2. Have 16 Regional winners plus 6 at large bids - 24 teams. Everyone knows where those other 6 teams should come from.

 

Stop running volleyball like it's basketball. Soccer and Softball do it differently.
