Holmes only offense is their defense. Which is not a bad thing in girl's basketball but good coaches in the 9th will adjust to this come February.

I beg to differ. Coaching kept them out of the state tournament last year. His players are well coached in the summer and have been for many years. And that "young lady" had very little to work with on a talent level as well as little support from administration. I believe this was more than a few years ago.

I've actually had "all girls" team win a boys rec league on several occasions! Until about 6th grade, some girls team can stay competitive with boys. Not all...some. Now those same girls are playing for Holmes, Cooper, Ryle Etc. Now, this is my younger daughter's team and they are still learning the game. As rcc9 mentioned, I obviously think they can compete or I wouldn't attempt to put them in the league. I would think the majority of girls playing sports in high school, started playing that sport with or against boys when they were younger.

$120 per player. I'd bring in 10 girls plus my u7 boys team. What league director wouldn't do that? I would guarantee that boone county pee wee football wouldn't turn down an entire team nor would nkb baseball. If a girls team can compete and the parents are ok with it, what does it hurt? We are not a school team, not ready for aau ,too competitive for the YMCA and upward. We're just looking for a place to play besides sports of all sorts.

I recently emailed the director of the little colonel basketball league asking if I could put my all girls 3rd grade team in their u9 division. I explained, we are not an aau team but we can compete with boys of the same age. We are just looking for a place other than sports of all sorts to play. Of course the answer is ...No...boys Only Now, I know I'm going to get the old...is it fair for an all boys team to play in a girl's league? No, of course not! We are just limited in options of places to play in nky. And there are more options for boys basketball leagues at this age level. Does anyone else this this is ridiculous?

I believe the Tarheels have a good 5th grade team. If you are looking for your daughter to learn the game, Legacy is the best around for skills!! The lil' legacy program is teaching skills to 7 year old's that most middle school girl's don't have.

What players specifically are you speaking of? Just Swietzer from Boone? She put up some good numbers the year she played with Moss. Is it possible that teams focused on stopping Moss which left her open? Then the following years, more focus was to stop her? That happens a lot. If you have an 8th grader or freshman, leading a team in scoring, most likely they are going to be seeing the opposition's best defender...every game. I do know there are some really good freshman that played a huge role on their teams this year. All or whom played as 8th graders.

This is a silly thread. The real question...will Boone County high school girls basketball be dried up in the next 3 years now that Nell is gone?

Quite honesty, playing middle school basketball makes talented players worse. Players that work their butts off in the off season end up seeing 8-10 minutes playing time while "Susie" that can't decide If she's a cheerleader or basketball player, play the rest of the game due to the score margin. There are a handful of good coaches and the rest are painful to watch. My daughter was benched for doing a power lay up in the 7th grade!! I know for a fact that middle schools in Boone County school districts are cutting 30+ middle school girls from the basketball team but the high school program barely field a freshman teams. Is that fair? Get used to it, there is more middle school talent moving up.

Until last year, they never had a strong coach. They did have 6 or so seniors last year. Also, Cooper feeder schools such as Ockerman and Camp Ernst feed to both Boone and Ryle. For example, if an 8th grade basketball team at Camp Ernst kept 12 girls, 10 of them could go to Boone and 2 to Cooper.

You are right. It's not the Holmes Fans. It's you and a few other posters on this site that have very little knowledge of basketball, let alone girl's high school basketball. A few years back, my daughter was caught up in a conversation (cat fight) on facebook with a group of girl's from another school. All girl's involved were boasting how they were better at basketball, their middle school team would kick their butt etc. And then it started getting personal. When I saw this conversation, I explained to my daughter that this is not good sportsmanship and you never put down someone's else's game or brag about how good you are. I think she got the point when her internet use was removed for 1 month. My point is, when you are constantly bragging about your self, your team and/or your child, people start to dislike you, your team and pick apart your child's game. You become that parent that no one wants to sit beside at games. People start picking out every flaw in your team and players because of the constant boasting. Eventually, no matter how good your child is, they will be known as the player with the pain in the butt parent. Maybe, you should jut post scores and stay quite for a bit. Your team will speak for themselves.

Holmes fans are really making it hard for anyone to pull for these girls. I have to keep in mind, It's not the girls fault! I hope they don't bite any of the Birds this year.

Asyah Mitchell kept her team in this game almost single handedly in the 1st half. While her bf Held was out with her 3rd foul, Asyah put up 13 in the first half and battled the press. Jags hit a ton of free throws and Hailey Anderson dominated the 2nd half. I liked how patient Cooper 's young players were, they didn't force bad shots when they were down in the first half. Both teams had way too many turnovers, game could have gone either way.
