Ryle travels to Covington to take on The Lady Bulldogs of Holmes - who is the number one team in the 9th region right now.

 

Last season Holmes went to union and fought hard to come back and beat Ryle 50-45 in overtime!

 

This is going to be a great match up Friday night at 7:30! I know I'll be in attendance!

 

Who wins this game and why?

Holmes wins in another close one, but I wouldn't be surprised to see the Lady Radiers come in and win.

Really like both teams alot but I think the Dawgs are a true force this year. Hope it is close.

Really tough to say here. It seems like Ryle has really figured some things out. But still susceptible to the TO bug. And that can spell disaster against Holmes. However, if they can protect the ball, they are big enough to do what HC did to Holmes last year. And Holmes doesn't have near the shooters they had last year and last year struggled against a big zone defense.

 

If they protect the ball and play a zone, keeping Holmes slashers from getting to the basket on drives, then I feel Holmes will have difficulty scoring and they definitely have a chance. Like I'll say all year when talking about Holmes, that's easier said than done.

I'm a supporter of the Ryle program and of course rooting for a W but won't blindly be a "my team will beat yours" poster. I listed Holmes as preseason #1 for a reason. Here's my take...run and gun game..big advantage Holmes. Half court sets..big advantage Ryle. Tempo and turnovers will be key.

I wish both teams the best of luck and hope these young women try their hardest and remeber in the big picture that this is just a game that they should enjoy and live in the moment but realize after the last whistle blows real life starts the next day in the classroom. Not sure why anyone would want to point out the PERCIEVED weakness for any HS team. These are HS young women and I am gratefull that coaches tell their players to ignore the opinions of people on this web site.

If Ryle doesn't turn the ball over they are going to be tough for anyone to beat. Saw them this past weekend and was impressed at their size and ability to stretch the floor and shoot the deep ball. Haven't gotten to see Holmes play yet but it sounds like this could be a really good one.

My point being that we as responsible adults should focus on positives as oppose to the weakness a HS team may or may not have. Just my opinion like yours. I will take the positive route and try to encourage young men and women not point out what I think may be their weakness. I can't speak for all HS coaches but the coaches I know personally do not let their players read this stuff.

You are entitled to your opinion for sure, and there is some to take from what you say, but that opinion would make for some unproductive coaching. A team is going to have a difficult time getting better if they are not honest about their weaknesses and make an effort to improve them or at least to keep them from being exposed. If you are not strong enough to be critiqued and take critique, you probably should stick with rec league.

Agree one hundred percent within the confines of the team and those who are responsible for their team playing to the advantages they may have against an opponent. If any coach takes what is said by those who post on this web site shame on them. In additional that is why the coaches are the coaches and we as spectators should understand what we say here or anywhere could potentially impact a young adult in a negative manner maybe for the upcoming game or further. Once again the coaches I know use scouts and keep their findings within the confines of the team, a forum like this could be used to encourage young athletes as well as point out what they may be lacking. Again personally I would want to be known for focusing on positive impact on young people not negative. Just my opinion.

Your statement helps me make my point, focus on not critique but find something good to say and let the coaches in their locker rooms do the critiquing, behind closed doors!

If you are talking about my posts, I apologize for offending you. However, I pointed out positives and opportunities for both teams. Do you really feel anything I said is damaging to any of them? I know a lot of the players on both teams. I would say the say thing with them present. In fact, I've coached some of them and I coach at the high school level myself. Are we supposed to suger coat everything for high school kids that are about to jump into the real world...some within the next 6 months? I am talking about the game and strategy and keeping everything at the team level. I don't name any names. I only talk about the team. Are we really in a place where a high school kid can't be told about team weaknesses and strengths? Should we hand them all trophies and tell them they are the best at everything, when we all know (including them) that it's not true. How do people get better if no one tells them their shortcomings. Feedback is a gift!!!

You keep repeating that coaches don't let their kids read this stuff...that's fine. Not sure why that comment is relevant to discussing this game. But I bet those same coaches are the ones game planning and explaining to each and every kid on their team what every weakness is of the opposing team. And how they are going to attack and expose that weakness with everything they have...all in the spirit of winning.

If they are playing HS at a MS age, I'm sure they've been critiqued a lot more than anyone on here has. If they haven't, they wouldn't be good enough to be playing at the HS level as a MS kid.

 

And don't the families of those MS kids have a choice whether to play them up? By playing up, kids get exposed to a lot more than message board jingle at an age they probably shouldn't. So the parents make that choice to put them in situations that can be way more damaging than anything I say on here.

 

Can you show us what critique is bothering you so much? What was said that is damaging?
