Great point!! This is Male's first trip to State, and Jess is pumped!! So, nothing would please me more than having Ms. Haylee on the next field over playing Thursday night then we can all go get BBQ!!! :hungry: If they're not fortunate enough to make the Final Four that play on Saturday, so be it. She'll take her ACT Sat. AM, and then we'll be on the road to Dayton for afternoon bracket games in the Blue and Black...we are a softball family and next week has "Win-Win" written all over it for me, regardless of the game scores. My kid's in the State Tournament 10 miles from my hometown, so all of her family gets to come see her rock it out!! :ylsuper:

Eastern came and went like Sonny Liston. The game was decided quickly as the Male Bulldogs Varsity exerted their will early and often with seven runs in the first three innings. Lead off walk followed by an E1, sac fly by ALEX GINTER, a wild pitch in the first inning and RBI singles by JESSICA WIREMAN and KENNEDY BISHOP during the second inning supplied the early offense for the Male Bulldogs. For any of you who have been to Ulmer Stadium, you'll appreciate this. Male's senior catcher MANDY JOHNSON crashed a line drive off the video screen ABOVE the scoreboard...220' fence, and 30+ feet up!! That's putting a run on the board!! Up 9-0 in top of 7th, Bulldog's lost a little focus, allowing Eastern to plate an unearned run, but that was it. WIREMAN was efficient, needing just 70 pitches through first 6 innings (22 in 7th), scattering 4 hits, 2 BBs and 3 Ks. Finishing the SHA/Ballard/Eastern Regional series with 3 Ws, 3 ERs, 3 BBs and 9 Ks from the circle. This is Male's first trip to State ever, and 1st year Coach, Josh Bloomer, gets a trip back to BBQ-Town with new team after winning it all last year with his former team. I said back in August when Male's former coach resigned, that whoever got the gig was getting a lot of unheralded talent, and I think the way it turned out has been a big win for everyone involved. Next up, Scott County. Bulldog's are 2-0 against SC this season which is....meaningless. Now....are there going to be any other Doomers eating BBQ with me Thursday night or what???

Butler Bears down the Bullitt East Chargers 2-0 tonight at Ulmer Stadium in Louisville. This one surprised me....a lot. Butler v. Mercy, Friday Night at 530 for the 6th Region ticket to BBQ-Town. Can't believe I'm going to be forced to root for Billy Bell, but....GO BEARS!!!

Man, what a game!! Male didn't bring their "A" game, but they brought a big ol' mess of grit and determination with 'em. I think SHA the day before was a little tougher opponent, and Ballard did what they do...lot of pressure...but the Bulldogs would not succumb. When pitches, plays and crucial ABs needed to be made they were. Nobody wearing purple last night, in the stands or dugout, was ever anxious, even when they were down 3-0 in the middle of the 5th. In the past Male would falter under that kind of emotion, but those players have, for the most part, moved on. The players at Male now are a different bunch, as is the coach. Bloomer absolutely, without question was the superior coach last night. He is a coach, not a cheerleader, and that was on full display last night. SHA/Ballard/Eastern has to be one of the toughest paths to Owensboro, but Male's capable. We'll see if they can close the deal tomorrow night.

Another great SS I have seen this year is Michal Luckett at Scott County. Her D is rock solid, has a cannon arm and is a tough out at the plate. I know she is headed to Univ. of Evansville in the fall.

Since these things are voted on by coaches, I think the further a player goes in the post season really has a large bearing on being selected POY. Getting to the Region final or to State seems to go hand in hand with POY. Slightly off topic, I would love to see Morgan Raymer lead Bullitt East past Mercy and on to Owensboro, POY or not. She, and the rest of the BE team, are as blue collar and likeable on the field as they come. Not an arrogant or obnoxious one in the group, which is more than I can say for some other "super teams" stocked full of POYs and D1ers I've seen around KY.

Semis tomorrow are Eastern/Assumption @ 530, then Male/Ballard @ 730. Winners play for the trophy Thursday @ 530. And I'm pretty unproductive from about middle of May to first week of August. :sarcastic:

Tomorrow's the big one. Pretty certain whoever wins that one will take the region. C'mon down, and bring some of those other NKYers with ya!!

Male comes out on top in a well played game 3-1 over SHA. SHA had a few hard hits, but couldn't seem to string anything together. Wireman scattered 6 hits and 4 Ks, including 2 in bottom of 7th, to hold the Holy Ones at bay. Male countered with 7 hits and just 2 Ks. Each pitcher issued just 1 free pass, and both teams had 2 errors apiece, both resulting in an unearned run for each side. Entertaining, exciting game for a large crowd. A layout catch by Male LFer Miozza in bottom of 5th with 2 out and 2 on was highlight of the game. Really killed a momentum swing that SHA was hoping to mount. Bullitt East gets a 10K shutout from the circle and 2 run HR from the plate by pitcher Morgan Raymer to send Holy Cross (Lou) quietly into the summer with a 3-0 loss. Final Score for the Day: Lions 2 Christians 0

To me, this is ridiculous. With the NKSCA, I can see why the 9th Region has the lowest participation in the KSCA. That's fine, if you all want to have your own sandbox on the playground, enjoy!!:thumb: But, for those schools to not even participate in YOUR own reindeer games is inexcusable. As a parent, I too put little interest in "coach voted" polls and awards for the obvious examples and bias listed above, but they do have meaning to the players. The girls like it when they receive some recognition for their efforts and sacrifices, and if, as a coach, you are so indifferent, lazy, ambivalent or whatever the reason, to not go to the trouble of sending in a list of 5 of your players who you may feel are deserving of praise, then you get a big fat "F" as a coach, and should move aside for someone else to take your spot that will have ALL of your player's best interest at heart. I have no dog in this fight, as we have nothing like this in our area, but I know my DDs coach puts forth the effort to not only teach, coach and improve his players, but also to fairly promote them when available. It's part of the job!! Reading this thread really got me fired up. Congratulations to Dallis Knotts and Haylee Smith, the two outstanding young ladies I have the pleasure of knowing and coaching, and equally to Madison Moran, whom I have met many times and enjoyed watching, for all of your hard work and successes. Though you may be unrecognized in this list, through no fault of your own, your actions leave a resounding legacy in the NKY softball community for years to come.

Agree, it is a shame that there isn't 100% participation throughout the state in the KSCA. Same with stat reporting to provide an accurate landscape for every eligible vote cast to be an informed one, but I think that the competing stat gatherers (i.e. local papers, websites) has an effect on that. As a parent, I would ask the coach at the initial parents meeting if they are a participating, active member in the KSCA, fairly advocating for the players on their team. If not, I would ask directly for an explanation as to why not. Might prompt a few more coaches in that direction.
