Cov Cath and Beechwood are located in Kenton County but I definitely would not consider the "county" schools. Dixie is the only Kenton County school in the tournament.

So it looks like it will most likely be the same 8 as last year, with the exception of Ryle (in place of Conner), who took last year off, after winning it in '13.

No repeat champ this year.

This is required since more players try out for freshmen baseball, than try out for all levels of softball combined! Love that Title ix! Let's keep it fair! After all, every girl deserves 4 times the opportunity to play the sport of their choice. Don't get me started:stop:

I'm hoping for a Dixie/Highlands matchup. It's about time for the birds to donate a game to the Colonels, after Dixie has gift wrapped wins for them in 2 of the last 3 regional tournaments

Over the last 3 years there have been 3 clear favorites going into the regional tournament. Of the 3, only 1 won it or even made it to the championship. So goes a 1 and out tourney!

If a catcher has that much control over the pitcher, that's on the pitcher. My son quickly learned to shake off his catcher who seemed to love to call for fastballs against cleanup guys :idunno:

Baseball is by far the toughest to predict! One bad inning and you can be done. Just ask Dixie. They were clear-cut favorites going into the regions last year but failed to make it to the finals and were almost beat in the opening round. It would be great if there were some way to have a multi-game playoff system but it is just impractical.

Love to see the baseball player Ethan making some big plays on the gridiron! Again, Congrats to Dixie on a record year. Just remember that you are the best team Dixie has ever put on the field and everyone in northern Kentucky is proud of this team!

Congrats to Dixie and to the Shamrocks on great seasons. To Dixie, tough to beat a 12A school.

It has nothing to do with being a Dixie fan, just someone who can look at something logically. Was Dixie's 2013 Regional runner-up team the second best team in the region? No. They were probably 3rd or 4th best but they got hot and a bit lucky.

Again, using this logic, was UConn the best college basketball team this past year (or UK the second best)? I think not. Just because you get hot (or lucky) and do well in a one and out tournament (especially in baseball), it doesn't necessarily mean your the best. I would slot Highlands around #5 or #6 this past season.

Ever since I have been reading BGP, people have been touting Highlands as one of the top teams in the area. Just last year, parts of the fan base insisted that they should be #1 or #2 in the preseason. As the season went on, it was obvious that they were not a top 5 team. I do think they have the makings of a good team next year (pitching), who knows maybe they will be near the top. However, until they can win consistently against good teams, I'm not picking them in my top 5. Am I bitter over Dixie handing them games in the last 2 of 3 regional tourneys? Yes :isurrender:

I think next year will be wide open. Beechwood is the obvious pick but I think Suchanick will be harder to replace than you think. Now is the time for one of the to-be Juniors to step up and take a leadership role. I say other than them, the big schools and traditional powers fill out the top 5. I would say Ryle returns, Cov Cath maintains, Dixie drops a little but stays top 5 and throw another 33rd team in and there's my top 5. :popcorn:

I would also add that it is the downfall of any 1 and out tourney (regardless of sport). More often than not, the winner is not the best team in the field. The only way to crown a true champion would be a multi game series tourney, like the NBA or MLB does. This is obviously impossible in high school or even college sports. I was rooting for SK to win it all and congratulate them on their finish but they would probably fall somewhere in the 6-10 spot in my Top 10 NKy team poll. Saying they are the best team in NKY would be similar to thinking that UConn was the best men's college basketball team this past season.

I would if they were head and shoulders above everyone else in both positions. However, the players who were listed on multiple positions are known primarily for their pitching and it's not like they don't bat when they are pitching.

The title of the post is misleading. I don't believe this list has anything to do with the JR/SR game. It is the NKY all stars (regardless of class).

I wasn't referring to any kids in particular, just making an observation. If it is posted that some kid got a D1 offer , you can mark it down that he will make every postseason all star list, regardless of the season he had or how his team may have fared. I don't suggest any deserving player be left out. My bigger complaint is when guys get on for multiple positions, taking spots from guys who are just as deserving (Nick King).

I completely understand that there is no possible way to make everyone happy or to include all players who are deserving but to have 2 players taking up 4 spots for Div II, COME ON. Also, as mentioned above, no Nick King, SILLY! A also understand that the kids who have work hard and been offered spots with higher level college teams, were given those offers for a reason. However, it seams that every year, as soon as a kid is offered, he will be on every all-star team published. Very similar to MLB all star lineups, once a player achieves a particular "status", they will make the roster, even when they haven't played a large portion of the year due to injury. It just seems that whoever is voting on these list allow college offers to outweigh performance sometimes.

I think last year was such a letdown for Conner that some may have been a little reluctant to jump on the wagon. That team has some very good talent as well but seemed to implode at the end of the year?
