I am not claiming innocence here. I had no idea how good Conner would be this year.

The fact that they were a surprise makes their success all the sweeter for their fans. Has to be exciting times for them.

A conversation that I heard more than once last night was in regard to the style of play or the atmosphere around both teams and how it contrasts to other programs in NKY. These two teams are loose. They play loose. They don't seem to be tight. Their coaches let them be individuals.

I think last year was such a letdown for Conner that some may have been a little reluctant to jump on the wagon.

 

That team has some very good talent as well but seemed to implode at the end of the year?

Not sure about this. Look at the programs that have won recently or have won a lot in the past. Schulkens, Arlo and maybe Huff let them be loose. Myerhoff, Roesel and Krumps keep it tight to the vest. Works both ways. If you are going to let them be care free you'd better have a group of seniors that can patrol things. I've talked to him on occasions over the last few years where he mentioned that his kids didn't seem to care. This year, they obviously did.

 

I think it boils down to who has the kids who are tough and have the talent. Having a stud or two on the mound certainly doesn't hurt either as well as getting hot at the right time.

 

Congrats to Arlo. Great guy and he finally gets his region title. Hope they represent the 9th very well next week. Good luck.

It all comes down to character and chemistry. Conner had problems in both areas last year with a certain player and this team this year without that player seemed to really come together and gell. It was fun to watch them this year do what they've done.

 

The coaches can "let loose" per say but you need the players who are mature enough to know how to handle that.

It all goes with winning, if the coach lets them play loose or "lets them be themselves" its great and every coach should do it, the next year when a team struggles, its "that coach is too easy, he has no discipline". Same way with coaches mentioned above as well as other ones, when they win, it the greatest approach ever, when they struggle, first things that come out "kids are not happy","coach is too hard on them" "kids are not having fun". It all comes down to winning, when a team wins, no one says a word, when a team looses and struggle, coaches should be coaching different!! JUST WIN BABY and all critics are silenced, kids are different every year, coaches coach, kids play and win games.
