I understand there is a 7 on 7 tournament tomorrow at Western Hills. I'm pretty sure Tates Creek will be attending. Does anyone else know what other schools will be there?

Hmmmm... That doesn't really make any sence to me. How could the school be saving money? They didn't scrap the program, they just cut out the scholarships. I'd be curious to know how much money the football program at Morehead brings in for the athletic program. Between ticket sales, concessions, and athletic wear I'd say they do alright. Shame not to reward at least some of their players for all their hard work with a scholarship... Don't get me wrong, I appreciate non-scholarship athletes, and their dedication to college sports, but this doesn't make sence to me... especially when other sports at the school are handing out scholarships...

Does Morhead offer football scholarships?

Lexington has problems from the ground up... Starting at the pee wee level, all the way up to UK... Problem is, football is viewed more as a social event than a competitive sport. It kills me year in and year out. I like Coach Hayden, he should put another competitive team on the field this year. I'm a little biased, but they'll have their hands full with Tates Creek this year... ;-)

Tates Creek still hasn't officially named their starting Quarterback for the upcoming season. It's been a tight competition between Jake Ryan (a Junior) and Graham Gordon (a Sophmore). I've heard Graham has the slight edge. Please let me know if anyone has heard anything!

I think Sam Carter is getting the start at Henry Clay. But I haven't heard about Dunbar, or Bryan Station. Anybody know anything?

The Football season is just around the corner. Can anyone tell me who the top Quarterback prospects are in and around Lexington?

I agree... it's easy to lay someone out when their eyes are on the ball and don't see the hit coming. Not taking anything away from the big hits, but this kid was focused on finding the ball, not doging blockers...

My wife worked as an assitant principal in Clark County for three years under Elaine Farris, and she has little good to say about her. Isn't it the principal's call whether to fire a coach or not? I would think a superintendent has more important things on her plate to think about, than the number of football games they are winning. I'm glad the kids are excited there in Winchester, I'm looking forward to an exciting football season in this district.

Just an update for those of you following football in Lexington. Creek had their Maroon/White game last Thursday. It was a treat... Very exciting. Dennis Oxendine is a beast, he is tuff to bring down, and that's if you can get your hands on him, have I mentioned he can catch the ball too? The O line was decent, but needs work. The receiving core did a great job getting open and holding onto the ball. I know there has been some speculation as to which QB was going to get the start next year, but (sophmore to be) Graham Gordon clearly pulled ahead. 225 passing yards, 42 rushing yards, and 2 TD passes were pretty impressive. I know it was on his own team, but Tates Creek was ranked number 2 against the pass last year. I was also impressed with Cal Stewart at linebacker, Casey Grimes at RB/WR, Keith Denton at WR, and Martavius Carter at RB/WR. Next year is looking pretty bright...

Ugh... that is a bad draw for anyone. But I said it, so I will stick with it. Oxendine will be a scoring machine at running back and receiver. As long as that defense can step up against the run, Creek will boast a solid record this year.

I agree... this is a big deal for a local kid. I have no idea why football is so over looked in Lexington... From the pee wee level up. Yet, they pack in 60,000 fans every Saturday to watch a UK. I'm so confused...

For what ever reason, I think Creek has had problems getting kids to come out for the football team in the past. They have good coaching not haven't had a lot of talent to work with. Mike Harmon is a sharp football guy. I think they had something like 10 seniors last year and will probably have the same this year. But the incoming Junior and Sophmore classes are big, and stacked with talent. They could use a few more big guys on the line, but have enough to get by. If they protect the ball on offense (no fumbles or INT's) they could put up a lot of points in each game. They have an experienced running back that can run, and a quarterback that can make any throw on the field, with a few recievers that can go up and get a ball. Deffensively they are solid, and will be tough to pass on. So the answer is yes. This year they have a winning season, and post their first playoff win in years. The two classes after that will be worth watching. Winning programs usually inspire other kids to come out for the team, that might not have wanted to play for a losing team (sad as that is). Creek starts turing things around this year...

I don't know much about the team as a whole, but I'm pretty sure they will be starting a Junior at Quarterback, Sammy Carter. I watched Sammy growing up and in Middle School. I also watched him play last year against Tates Creek's JV, he was impressive. A fast kid with a good arm.

Tates Creek played a lot of sophmores on both sides of the ball last year, and lettered three Freshmen (Graham Gordon at QB, Martavious Carter at KR, and Max Sweet at DB). They will be returning a hand full of seniors this year, with Dennis Oxendine being the most valuable. He's a strong running back that can catch the ball as well. Over all, there will be an experienced group of upper classmen returning. Gordon had some impressive performances in freshmen and JV games, and got into the last couple of Varsity games (3 for 3, for 31 yards and a TD pass in their last game against Campbell County). It looks like the plan is to start him at QB. From what I'm seeing in their spring practices, they want to start throwing the ball more...

How about some feed back on Spring Football in Lexington. Tates Creek has been doing a lot of 7 on 7 drills. I think they are planning on passing the ball a lot more this year. Any feedback on other programs in the area?

They played a lot of sophmores on varsity, and three Freshmen lettered (Graham Gordon, at QB, Martavious Carter, as KR, and Max Sweet, at DB). Dennis Oxendine is their most valuable returning Senior at running back. The offense looks pretty good, and I think they are going to try and pass the ball more. From the looks of things they are going to be starting a sophmore at QB, but the rest of the offence should be seasoned. I don't know much about the defense other than they are returning a lot of guys.
