WINCHESTER — About 50 people held a rally Tuesday night, leveling various complaints against Clark County Public Schools Superintendent Elaine Farris.

 

The hastily organized gathering grew out of continuing unhappiness among some people over the dismissal of Paul Columbia as head football coach at George Rogers Clark High School in December. Columbia says he was fired about three months after Farris sent him text messages questioning the amount of playing time he was giving her grandson.

This has the makings of a reality TV show.

Sad that a Superintendent would stoop this low.....

So I did a search on the guy and found a discussion board that says that Mrs. Farris is black and more than a few think this is partially a race issue.

In my personal opinion, those posts dealing with race are wack jobs. I see zero credibility in those posts.

i also know a close source and the facts are that paul columbia was 3-8 last year on a team that had a 2000 yard rusher. They have only won 3 playoff games in his 13 years as head coach and two of those were in the same year. Only one district championship. Opponents of GRC are more than a little nervios he is gone. Ms. Farris made the right call based on facts and what is best for the student athletes of GRC. 50 people showed up in a town of 30,000. Not that impressive to me. Realize she is his wife and might not have the best interest of the kids in mind. GRC players are VERY happy to have a new direction and should make noise this next year.

My wife worked as an assitant principal in Clark County for three years under Elaine Farris, and she has little good to say about her. Isn't it the principal's call whether to fire a coach or not? I would think a superintendent has more important things on her plate to think about, than the number of football games they are winning. I'm glad the kids are excited there in Winchester, I'm looking forward to an exciting football season in this district.

Not shocked that a super has done this, part of our society now to use influence to get what you want regardless of the reality of how good or bad her grandson is. Just sad that it has happened to a good man.

the principal was making the decision and in the meeting. You don't hear that part. What ever decisions were made by her on other issues does not mean she was wrong about this. Too many personal agendas. That is what this is about. Great decision regarding the football coach. Also good man does't equal good coach and what Is the best for football kids. It Equals good old boy system. Watch out for GRC in 2012! Great Head coach in place now. Her grandson is a teen, current player, and classless that a kid is thrown in the middle of this thing IMO.

Who is going to be the assistant coaches for GRC this year? I heard the new coach kept a few from the current staff, and also bought in some new ones. What can you tell us about his staff? Thanks.
