  1. I know his parents, he's a great kid. Tough as nails too! He took a big hit in the 1st game of the season against Dunbar, that left a hematoma the size of a grape fruit under his throwing arm. The doctor cleared him to play, as long as he could stand the pain. With nothing more than an Advil, he played through the pain with solid games against Perry County and Henry Clay. Below is a highlight that his head coach made last week. The Rowan County game isn't on there but you can scroll down to catch that game. Check out the second play on the highlight. It's absolutely ridiculous! How he manages to stay on his feet, get the throw off, and complete this pass is insane! Graham Gordon - Highlight Videos, Schedule & Roster - Hudl
  2. Does anyone know if this game will be broadcast over the radio or ihigh?
  3. Turn overs will be key in this game. Creek will have to play mistake free football. If they do, this game is theirs. I also think play calling will be important. I just don't see Creek running the ball on Clay like they have the last three games. This will be a nail biter.
  4. Creek pulled out a nail biter... maybe next time, don't try and run out the clock with 3:56 left in the game only to punt away with 2:08 and almost lose the game. Always play to score points, especially with this offense... I was willing to eat crow if this was a Creek blow out, but since it wasn't, and I predicted this would be within a touchdown, I'm going to take my props... I know this kid and his family personally, and want to give a shout out to the "back up" QB... 15 of 18 for 157 yards (and he only played half the game, and didn't get in until the second quarter with 7:58 to go, and down by a touchdown, what's Harmon thinking?)... FYI: rotating QB's almost cost Creek the game, and this was their easiest game of the year... My next prediction... and I hope I'm wrong... coming soon... ;-) High school football: Tates Creek 22, Paul Dunbar 21 | High School Sports | Kentucky.com
  5. Sorry dude. you seem like you know what you're talking about, but really? Name me just one successful program in the history of football that managed to win with rotating QB's. And why would Harmon mention the 3rd QB if he didn't plan on playing him? Of all the positions on the field, QB is the one position that has to get into a groove, a rythm. how can that happen when rotating the spot?. A buddy of mine told me tonight that the Senior (jake ryan) was named the starter for the Dunbar game. I was told he will play the first half. Is that true? I'm still curious as to why the coaching staff is going with a kid that threw for 230 yards last year instead of the kid that threw for 2300. Is it because or the attempted transfer to Madison Southern last year?
  6. I agree… I don’t think this game is a given, and “should win” is exactly right. Can Dunbar pass the ball? Because, I don’t really see them running the ball on Tates Creek, however, with a lot of the kids in the secondary playing both ways, I see them getting very fatigued and giving up some big plays late in the game. I’m also a little surprised at the high scores you guys are posting. 35 points? 42 points? This isn’t last years Tates Creek team and it looks like they plan on running the ball more, which will grind the clock and provide less opportunity to score points. That, and add in rotating QB’s (I saw on channel 27 that Harmon plans on rotating in the sophomore Peyton Burke too), you can almost count on missed snaps, INT’s and fumbles with that recipe… If Tates Creek wins… and that’s “if”… it will be because Dunbar can’t pass the ball and Tates Creeks linebackers defend the run. Tates Creek will need at least two big plays on offense which their speed guys can produce and probably will need some points from the special teams, which their speed guys can do (talking about #19 and #26)… This one is closer than you think… 21 to 14… Tates Creek scrapes by…
  7. I agree... from what I saw, the pass protection was great, but Boyle County looked a little small up front on D... I was most impressed with the linebackers for Creek. They did a really good job at filling the gaps and stopping the run. Not for sure, but think it was #33, #10, #44... someone should give them their props if they know their names...
  8. I would agree, the Senior did have better numbers and accounted for 2 TD passes (one of which he owes #19 a steak dinner for). But in all fairness, #4 had about 80 yards on 2 passing plays that were called back because of holding penalties on the line. I guess when you have a kid scrambling around and holding on to the ball for 15 seconds before letting fly you run that risk...
  9. You didn't get a straight answer to your question. While there was a QB rotation, the Senior (Jake Ryan) got the start and saw most the reps. Unless I'm missing something I'd say he will be Tates Creeks starter to open the season.
  10. As it should be this time of year... I guess I was just confused, after reading (on this site as well as others) the lengths that the coaching staff went to get Graham Gordon back (after he transferred to Madison Southern), that they are considering not starting him... In the words of the great Yoda, "Confused I am!". But if I knew more about football, I guess I would be coaching and not them... :-) Good luck to the Commodores!
  11. I guess... Competition definitely brings out the best in every player, not going to argue that. But didn't the kid prove he's the better QB last year? Didn't they compete for the spot last year? Doesn't it hurt the team by making the future starters split time and lose reps? That can't be good for the QB and WR, especially when putting in new plays. I don't know, maybe I'm missing something here. But the only teams I ever hear about with a "QB controversy" are teams that are in a "rebuilding" phase, and from what I understand Tates Creek is not "rebuilding" anything. I hope this doesn't become a distraction for the team... For what it's worth, I know a couple of the kids on this team and will be cheering them on, but, in my opinion, rotating QB's every single play (like they did the last 4 games of last season) is a bad idea... Hopefully, for this teams sake, a clear cut starter is named sooner than later. One last question... Is the coaching staff not naming any starters for any position on the team, or is it just the QB spot? ;-) (Sorry... couldn't help myself...)
  12. Just out of curiosity... Why would there be a quarterback competition between a kid that threw for over 2300 yards last year and a kid that threw for under 300? Seems counterproductive and distracting to me... Tates Creek - Cumulative Season Statistics
  13. How many of the starters on this team play both ways?
  14. Sounds like an exciting year for the Tates Creek offense... I'm sure there will be a lot of eyes on them. I know Graham's family, and know there was some nervousness with him transferring back, after being gone all spring (and some of the "grade" issues). Hopefully all the off the field drama that's kept this kid from playing ball for 6 months is behind him and he can get back to playing football... best of luck to him, and Tates Creek... I know I'll be watching...
  15. I'll be curious what kind of impact Graham Gordon has on this team. Now that I've heard word he has returned to Creek...
  16. Linemen are usually more disciplined (in my experience)... Which would translate into a good coach.
  17. I've read a lot about the top Senior QB's in the state going into this season... Who will be the top Junior QB's to watch for going into this season... I'll start with Junior Graham Gordon who threw for over 2300 yards last year as a Sophomore at Tates Creek High School..
  18. That's awesome!!! RJ is easily one of the most talented kids in the state, I see him getting a lot of attention going into next season.
  19. That's awesome!!! Where did you get the All District team information? I haven't seen one for Creek's district...
  20. KHSAA allows a "one time" move to kids of divorced parents that have joint custody, without having to sit out a season. You can read it in their bylaws or call the KHSAA director to verify, but again, it's a one time transfer so there is no going back once your decision is made...
  21. He also threw for over 2300 yards with a 56% completion rate... as a Sophomre. Most all of his TD passes were from 20 yards out or more. Harmon would usually hand the ball off to Oxendine and run it in when they got close. His dad lives in Berea, he moved down to live with him. I don't know what's up with the Lexington District. There doesn't seem to be any interest in High School football for sure...
  22. Tates Creek High School's Sophmore Quarterback has transferred to Madison Southern High School...
  23. His coaches made that clip. There do seem to be a lot of deep balls the first 3 minutes. There's a lot of roll outs and pocket movement at the end. You really have to keep watching him after his has thrown the ball, kid really hangs in there and takes a hit to get the throw off... Thanks for the heads up. I'll pass that along...
