  1. I was very impressed with West Jessamine. Yes, Creek did have problems stopping the run, but I'm not going to take anything away from West's number 11. He was a Mack Truck with Corvette engine. I think every team they play will have trouble stopping him. I did notice that he ran out of gas in the 4th quarter. But I agree with goingfor2, it's a strategy that every team will use if this defense doesn't figure out a way to stop the run. And it really worked last night, sitting on the side lines, the offense got cold, and looked rusty when they hit the field. I don't have all the numbers, but I know Graham only had roughly 57 yards passing in the first half (maybe some first Varsity start jitters too), I know he over shot a wide open RJ Taylor on the first play of the game that would have been a TD. I think Creek may have been a little over confident too. That all passed in the 2nd half. Graham had 155 yards passing, including a 74 yard TD pass. I was a little shocked at how little Creek used Oxendine, don't know the story there. I'm not sure, but I don't think he even got in on offense until the second half. I'll post some more accurate stats after I take a look at the game film... Congrats to Creek on their first win!!!
  2. I just checked an updated weather report. Looks like most of the heavy rain will be in the morning. I'm crossing my fingers, but the weather should be fairly clear by game time. I'd rather see West Jessamine try and slow this offense down rather than the rain ;-)
  3. Sorry... I'll be to involved cheering the team on. I'll try and post a half time score, and will deffinately post some stats and thoughts after the game is over. I'm pretty sure it will be broadcast on the radio, and I know that it will be broadcast live on iHigh.com... I just read the Hearald Leader's preseason preview on TC... I think it is awesome that this team has so much talent that only a select few get a mention...
  4. Hope so GoingFor2... Looks like they are going to give Graham the start. One thing I've learned over the years, it's easier to throw a wet ball than it is to catch one. Hopefully any rain will have moved on, it is a very late game. Like I said, no predictions from me, but I think I certainly agree with AverageJoe ;-)
  5. I watched the game film on the West Jessamine vs. Dunbar scrimmage. I don't think they passed the ball more than 5 or 6 times. Where as Creek passed 20 times and ran it 10 times (at least that's what they did in the first 3 quarters) against Butler. If Creek can't stop the run, this will be a high scoring game. I won't predict a score, but I'll be shocked if Creek doesn't score 4 or 5 touchdowns. That offense is over the top stacked with talent. Two more days, and the excitement begins!!!
  6. Thanks Goingfor2... We were really glad he got the opportunity he did... Check out this link to see the offense highlights... Gold, I won't really be able to give an honest answer to that question until after the season starts... Graham Gordon - Highlight Videos, Schedule & Roster - Hudl
  7. I hear you... I really do... but, if you're good enough to start on the Varsity squad (at any position) aren't you to good to play JV ball? Even more important, aren't you risking a lot (maybe a football career) by suiting up with the JV squad? Injuries can happen at any time, under any circumstance... Why tempt fate with a starting Varsity player? Not to mention the fact that you're taking playing time away from a younger kid (or less talented kid, trying to get better) by playing a Varsity player on the JV squad... I don't know... something to think about I guess
  8. Sophmore QB's (Graham Gordon) numbers were roughly 176 yards passing with 3 passing TD's (over 3 quarters)... (it's no secret that I'm a little biased, but numbers don't lie)... Goingfor2 is right, Graham and RJ are 100% on the same page, very exciting to watch... Oxendine showed why he is the best running back in central Ky (maybe the state, we'll see)... I don't think anyone can pass on this defense, but they sure as he%! can run on them... if they shut down the run, this game is a blow out... oh... wait... let me think... yes... they did in the second half... I can't wait for August 17th... Go Creek!!!
  9. Wow... That's suprising... Did Southern pass the ball much? What about that speedy running back they have? Did he not play?
  10. I was only using Creek as an example... not meaning to point fingers. I noticed last year that GRC suited up a young man to play quarterback in the JV game against Creek, but was playing receiver in the Varsity game. I would say this kind of thing is done state wide. Now... I don't know if it's right or wrong, I'm just saying that when I was a young man playing ball, it was against the rules... players were only allowed one game a week. I don't know if this was for player safety, or if it was to prevent coaches from stacking JV teams to build up wins... that being said, the JV team with the best record did get a "JV Distict Title", which may not be the case in KY...
  11. But what if a young man is getting more than just "minutes"... What if a kid is say starting on the defense for the Varsity, then droping down to play JV games just to help fill a roster spot... Is that fair? Is it fair to the younger JV guys trying to get that experience? And is it fair to the Varsity kid who is risking injury? I don't know...
  12. My feelings are a little mixed on this topic. Where I grew up, if a player suited up and played in a Junior Varsity game (which was on Thursday nights), then he could not suit up and play in the Varsity game on Friday night. Players were limited to playing in one game per week. I've noticed that many Sophmores (at least for Tates Creek) and a few Juniors, will be playing for the JV squad, then suiting up and getting in the game on Varsity game on Fridays. I realize that some teams don't have enough players to fill their JV team, so some Varsity guys play down, but isn't that somewhat unfair? To have Varsity level players, suiting up against JV players? It's also a little risky for the Varsity guys, what if they get hurt in a meaningless JV game? Any thoughts on this?
  13. Allen is just north of Dallas past Plano (which also has a huge stadium). memyselfandi is right. I played high school football in Garland, TX (Dallas County), and there were 5 high schools at that time that basically shared two stadiums. Imagine if Lexington schools all shared one or two stadiums. I'd say there would be plenty of money to build a fairly large one...
  14. lol... Sorry... Had to correct you on that name, since I picked it out for him. I agree with you, but I'm doing my best to be fair and unbiased on here...
  15. Awesome!!! Thanks for the added insight... I didn't realize they were switching up the defense so much... Looking forward to a fantastic season!!! Oh, I'm pretty sure the sophmore QB's name is Graham Gordon... I'm looking forward to a solid passing game to compliment Oxendine!
  16. I'm not a coach, just a fan... I apologize if I got a name or position wrong... This is just my observation... Offense: Last year Creek had a lot of trouble throwing the ball. The problem started with the pass blocking and ended with an inexperienced QB and receivers. This year is could shape up much differently. The offensive line will be anchored by Gill, Czarnecki, and Stergill. Run blocking, they have down pat, pass blocking should get better as the season moves on. They have a great core group of receivers that will focus around the extremely fast RJ Taylor, Tavon Dunn, Marcus Wilkerson and Tim York. All are very sure handed. The back field is uber talented with D1 prospect Dennis Oxendine (who should rush for over 1500 yards this season) and Casy Grimes. Look for Marshal Gant and Martavious Carter to get in the mix to. Creek will try to go with a spread offense and pass the ball, but if that fails they will fall back on the run. That all really hinges on projected starting QB (Junior) Jake Ryan. Jake has a strong arm and is a big, smart kid. We'll just have to wait and see how he adjust to the speed of the Varsity game as opposed to JV. However, if he falters, Creek may go with back up QB (Sophmore) Graham Gordon. Defense: The secondary was solid last year, with Oxendine and Taylor at the corner spot. Zach Hines and Austin Yates as safeties. Cal Stewart, Tony Compton and Ryan Betlach appear to be starting at linbaker (with Betlach going in and out of the role as strong safety). The defensive line will be anchored by Taiwon Hart and Marshal Gant. Stopping the run has to be priority number one for the defense this year. I see the secondary batting down a lot of balls, and getting their fair share of Int's. If this group can come together and stop the run, Tates Creek will post a lot of W's in the win column this year. I believe Martavious Carter will be returning kicks... look for some big returns from him on special teams. Bottom line... Offense will need some solid play from their quarterback and defense will need to stop the run in order to improve on last years 3-7 regular season record.
  17. I think it's also worth noting, that Dixie Heights went 3-7 during the regular season, but Zeke Pike still managed to throw for almost 2000 yards in route to a full scholarship to Auburn... That number made him the number 2 6A passer in the state... I guess Auburn doesn't think that 3-7 is the only number that matters...
  18. 3 - 8 is the only thing that matters for the team. The entire team isn't going to share a scholarship. So individual accomplishments are crucial for kids that want to stand out and play college ball. Whether the numbers are scued or not, I don't think it's fair to try and take away this accomplishment from these kids. Fact is, over 10 games (not 9 or 8) they allowed fewer yards passing than any other team in the state, and to try to take that away from these kids (especially the two corners that anchored the defense) is just wrong. That said... I really do feel like one reason Tates Creek went 3-8 last year is because they couldn't really stop the run. Second reason, is because they couldn't pass the ball on offense. However, I think there will be a huge jump in talent level to elevate both these problem areas for Creek this year. Personally, I've heard RJ is being looked at by Ohio State and Michigan... I know for a fact that Dennis has an offer on the table from Arkansas State...
  19. RJ's the real deal... super fast kid, with a good eye for the ball. Depending on what Creek does at Quarterback, I expect him to have a break out year at wide receiver too...
  20. Congrats on the win... It was a great day of football... Good luck on the upcoming season...
  21. Did anyone see who won the final game in the 7 on 7 tournament in Lexington on Saturday? I know Ballard and Pike County beat out Tates Creek and Lafayette in the Semi-Finals. Great day of 7 on 7's, but glad it was Creeks last. I'm looking forward to full pads... Anyway, if someone know's who won the final, please let me know...
  22. I'll post in more detail the players to watch, for TC, before their first game. Off the top of my head, is Senior runningback Dennis Oxendine who already has on offer from Arkansas State, he's also a good receiver. They are loaded at wide receiver, with RJ Taylor looking to be their "go to" guy, he runs in the sub 4.5 range and has hands like glue. Tates Creek really wants to throw the ball this year, but they'll have to figure out who the trigger man is first. It looks like Junior QB, Jake Ryan is penciled in as the starter, but last years Freshman Offensive MVP, (Sophmore QB Graham Gordon) is knocking on the door. That's a quick glance at the offence. They should have a solid line, but TC has never been known for its pass blocking... so we'll just have to wait and see...
  23. I know they didn't actually keep score at the 7 on 7, since it wasn't a tournament. I missed Creeks game against Montgomery County, but caught the rest of them. Like I said, no one gave them any problems but Franklin County. Creek put the ball in the end zone 3 times, while Franklin County scored 6 times. I don't think there were any interceptions thrown, just solid defense by Franklin County and their quarterback was on the money... I think I saw something on another post where he accepted a scholarship offer...
  24. Did anyone watch the 7 on 7 games at EKU yesterday (7/24/2012)... I believe it was Tates Creek, Laffeyette, Rowan County, Boone County, Franklin County, and Montgomery County. I didn't see Creek play Montgomery County, but they did well against Rowan and Boone County. They were pretty even with the Generals. They had their hands full with Franklin County (who has a good QB and some big recievers that can catch). Anyone else have some thoughts?
