My guess is because of their lack of depth they try to shorten the game to keep out of foul trouble and reserve energy for when they do attack on defense. So if they can shorten the game, it minimizes the time they can potentially get in foul trouble and shorten the time in the game when they have to pressure on defense. If they shorten the game, it's a win for them because they feel when they can play their style, regardless of how long of a time that is, the most likely feel they play to their advantage.

On the other hand, a basketball game NEVER comes down to one call. This last call might be the one you remember, but did it really cost anyone the game??? Did Mason miss any free throws in the game? Were there any calls that went masons way during the game? Did mason have any breakdowns in the game that gave grc and easy basket? Did Mason miss any gimme shots? Did mason get out hustled on any rebounds? Did mason have any turnovers that were converted into point for grc? People want to point at one call at the end, but my guess if you look back at the game there were many many things that could have made a difference in the game. I tell my teams, look in the mirror before you start blaming officials. You control your destiny.

Again, makes no difference if they got it right! So if he sees the travel (even if he's not supposed to be looking there) should he not call what he saw???

Completely disagree. If the call is correct, I don't care if they made it from the hot dog stand. The idea is for at least one of the 3 officials to make the right calls. If he hadn't called the travel, it sounds like the game would have been decided on a missed call. Yet you're complaining about the right call from the wrong guy! If it's the right calll.... it's the right call... period.

Are you saying it was a bad call or that the wrong official made the call? Because in my opinion, if it was a travel, then it really doesn't matter who called it. If it's the right call, why does it matter who called it and what position they were in?

Agree. If your a top talent, they will usually find you. But the easier you make it for them to find you, the easier the process will be and more likely to end up at your choice of school than maybe being in a situation where you may "need" to take the offer.

And I keep coming up with stuff....also be honest with kids and parents. If you educate yourself on what it takes at each level, make sure to keep the player grounded on expectations. Some parents think Johnny is the next best thing and they just aren't living in reality. Sometimes I see kids chase the D1 dream and miss out on D2 or NAIA because of it. There is still very good money at those levels, especially if you are a borderline D1 player.

I agree with this too. The kids need to do a lot of the leg work too. It's great to assist, but they have to want it and earn it too. I tell my kids, I will match the effort you put in. If you don't care, I don't care. Show me you care!

I think this is great advice. And the part about not trying to "oversell" a player. You may be successful with that one player, but if her doesn't pan out you will lose that trust and opportunity for future players. I do coach high school and get to talk to college coaches and that's my number one rule is to make sure they have a clear understanding of the strengths and weaknesses of a player. Then they can make their own decision. I think the other thing is to educate yourself with what a player looks like at each level of college (by position). If you don't no what is important to each level of the college ranks, you may oversell by mistake. As you network, really ask a lot of questions of the college recruiters to understand what they look for. Then when you have a kid come along with some abilities that may be college worthy, you at least have a starting point on where the kid may fall.

So I assume the parent is not the parent of a senior since they were trying to get rid of him for the future. Or was this something that started with intent to get rid of him during the year and only came to fruition at the end?

Not following you. There is a reason there are schools. The population of the area. They build schools if they need to. Obviously there not being as many schools around BG means the population isn't as big. BG isn't even 6A and doesn't have all those schools around it. So again, it's obvious there aren't enough kids to warrant a lot of other schools. I wasn't going to say anything, but it drives me batty that all the excuses are always "no one is can compete with them". I'm glad no one ever told me that in my career in any sport. And the last I checked, with the exception of Dixie getting beat in the finals a couple years back, NKY is not losing to Male, X or T in the playoffs. So lets talk about competing with them when we actually earn the right to even get there to compete.

All 3 losses were to McCracken...who lost a lot to graduation last year.

We played Bullitt East, McCracken, Woodford and Butler last year. All VERY good teams! But I think this year SC is one small tier above them. That doesn't mean they couldn't beat them, but all things even, I think SC has the edge this year. Can't wait to get started!!!!

I think NCC had a pretty good season...all things considered. They lost a senior player early and never really had Rice. I'm sure those were two components they were counting on to help bridge the gap with the youth they have coming up. It forced some of the youth to become go to players maybe a little earlier than expected. I think George does a great job there and they will be back in the hunt next year.

I don't know the rules exactly, but I do know she is a much older JR. I don't really care either way. I love watching her play. So I'd love to see her another year. I can't believe this is the first time this has come up and my guess is she'll be allowed to play. I know the hold back was early and I don't think it was for sports. She was a cheerleader until someone talked her into playing basketball. Whoever that was is a very smart person!!! For me, I don't care who is out there really. Play whoever shows up!!! That's nothing against Pete. He is always inquisitive about unique situations and I'm sure is just asking for discussion purposes. If it's a touchy subject, then we just drop it. Sometimes these things are already known and just haven't been discussed on here. So I don't think there is harm in asking.

How do you seed the region?

Football?? Highlands, Beechwood, Mayfield, Male, Manual, Scott County, Paducah Tilgman, Boyle Co, Johnson Central, Belfry, Central (sure I'm missing some) would all beg to differ. AND there are several private schools that are average in football each year.

Man, where are all you guys on the football forum when we discuss classes over there??? I need some help over there! Mark your calendars for August 1st and come over and join the discussion. I'm sure it will come up!! Lol
