I'm just a lowly educator in another district. I don't pretend to really understand. But a friend explained to me that the official rule from KDE is often ignored, or can be circumvented by hiring for an open position for this school year. Regardless. The way they understood and explained it to me, is that Kenton County would not be permitting schools to break this rule, and Feb 1 is the date. I don't know if that's good info or not. Just what I have heard.

Holiday Tournaments are when basketball really starts to heat up. Great matchups, teams gelling, and lots of fun. We’ve learned a lot about the 10th Region this week, and there is more to come. The top is still the top. This region looks like a 3 team race with a few outsiders hoping for a lucky draw and a few lucky bounces. But that’s why they play on the hardwood and not on keyboards. So. Here are the rankings, and as always, I welcome your disagreements, disappointments, and dissension. 1.) GRC ?|| (5-2) 2 Decisive wins and a pearl clutched against Boyd highlight a fun week for the Cardinals. They are who we thought they were, and they are the cream of the crop. This week, they’re headed to Myrtle Beach, and they’ll face Father Judge out of Philly. Rumor has it, that is where Will Smith was headed before he got in one little fight… 2.) Campbell?|| (6-1) A busy week in Claryville. Wins over Cooper, and then double-digit wins over Bourbon and Ludlow, reminded us that Austin Davie is one of the top underclassmen in the state. Tomorrow, they make an appearance at the Scott Winter Classic, then they head to the no judgment zone known as the Planet Fitness Holiday Tournament at Central Hardin. 3.) MoCo ?|| (5-2) The holiday break the Indians are about to take is well earned. After 5 games in 6 days (ending today), they are probably ready for a few days of R&R. They handled Bourbon, Great Crossing and Hopkinsville. They edged out Conner by one and look to wrap up their classic today against Holy Cross. They are dangerous, and they’re still awaiting Austin Sears’ first appearance in Red White and Blue 4.) Scott (? 1 )? || (4-1) The Royals came into Taylor Mill and found out exactly how good this Scott team is. Typical of a Fromeyer team, fundamentally sound, well-coached, scrappy, and tough. They don’t have any standouts; they are small, but that doesn’t stop them from winning games. This week they host the winter classic and see Bluegrass United and Woodward. Could be a good week on Pride Parkway. 5.) Nicholas Co. ( ⬇️ 1) ?|| (7-3) Paris, who hasn’t impressed me much gave Nicholas all they wanted and more, which might mean I still have the Bluejackets ranked too high. But then they had me rethinking things as they gave Scott Co all they wanted in the Gateway Holiday Classic. They remain an enigma to me, and we’ll see what happens this week as they play today and then spend the week getting ready for a trip to Pineville next week. 6.) Bourbon Co ?|| (4-4) The Colonels knew what was coming this week, and they took it well. Two blowouts from the top of the 10th Region. This week they see Estill and then have the week off. Hopefully a good regroup from them and then some new energy as they head to the Railroad classic in Irvine next week. 7.) Mason Co. ?|| (2-6) I would say that at least since the merger (92) this is one of the most disappointing teams in Maysville. They haven’t dropped in my rankings yet, but it’s probably coming. Kirk and company have some time to figure it out, but it’s not looking positive. 8.) Pendleton (? 1 ) ?|| (3-3) Pendleton fared well at the Pikeville Invitational this weekend. Pulling off a win against Hazard and a good game against Pikeville. Their solid win over Bellevue this week gave them a bump in the rankings. This week they have Huntington Expression Prep and Campbellsville. 9.) Brossart (? 1 ) ?|| (3-5) A losing record is not indicative of this team right now. Playing tough against a talented Beechwood team, and a win over Holmes helped the Mustangs jump a spot this week. Next week, they host the Dave Schabell Classic in honor of our dear friend, and I look for a few more victories in the record for the Green and White. 10.) Paris ( ⬇️ 2) ?|| (0-5) Limping into the new year probably wasn’t the plan when Coach Strait took the helm for the Hounds, but that happens sometimes. Nicholas County got all they wanted from the Hounds, but Bryan Station and Lafayette both handled them like pups. The Paris schedule has done them no favors, all 5 and 6A so far, except for Nicholas. We’ll see if that pays off down the stretch. 11.) Harrison Co. ?|| (2-5) The Thorobreds notched 2 in the left-hand column this week. A good win over Bluegrass United and Calvary, followed by a tough loss to Middlesboro. Whitley County and Lewis County are on the schedule this week as the ‘Breds try to figure it out. 12.) Bracken (? 1 ) ?‍❄️|| (5-3) Probably a bit “participation trophy” to see a team move up in the rankings when they lost all three games in a week, but a tough loss to Mason impressed me, and they really fought well against Anderson County. After Frankfort Christian today, they’re off for 8 days to regroup. 13.) Calvary Christian ( ⬇️ 1) ?|| (3-4) Losses to Newport, Harrison, and Eminence made the week tough for the Cougars, but they’re off this whole week. Might be a good time for them to make some adjustments and get ready for next week's Swauger Holiday Classic. 14.) Augusta ?|| (2-7) Coach Hinson’s boys are clawing for everything they have, and Boone, Fleming, Dixie, and WEB DuBois isn’t murderers' row, but it’s not exactly cupcake alley either. Hinson and company always find a way to make noise, and I think they still can. They’re off until Jan 3, and they’ll be ready to return. 15.) St Pat ✝️|| (1-4) A close one against Bath County has the Saints believing they’re on the edge of something. Felicity Franklin tonight, and the Saints could prove something. 16.) Robertson ?|| (0-6) Mt. Olivet is quiet these days. Bracken, Nicholas and Carroll all had their way with the Black Devils. RULH and Frankfort Christian this week, as the Black Devils desperately seek to add their first W of the year.

There has been no official communication from Scott. Nor from anyone claiming they accepted the job. We have posters on here claiming things that no one has verified. And now it’s Christmas Break in Kenton County. Not exactly a call for a victory lap. I don’t care. It’s not a contest, I just was sharing what I know. So, congratulations?

The information I have says this is nowhere near the case, absolutely no announcement forthcoming. Will be interested to see whose source is right.

Scott is in a 3 High School district. And Central Office is not interested in sports. All 3 schools suffer from this. All of what you outlined is great, if the super of a 1 school district is generous. But not a chance of 90% of this happening in a district like Kenton, Boone, Fayette, Jefferson. Those are pipe dreams, and that's why public schools lag behind privates in most sports

This is technically a KDE rule. According to the KDE, no school is permitted to announce or appoint hires for the next school year until after Feb 1. If it works out that there is a job immediately, that's different, but, according to policy, a Football Coach is a "next year" hire. Lots of schools ignore this, obviously, but those are the rules.

I always have a hard time believing that foul counts are indicative of anything other than how many times one team fouled. Not having seen the game I can't comment directly, but GRC refs are from the BBA, they cover the 10th and 11th region. They're as likely to be from Alexandria or Carlisle as they are Winchester or Mt. Sterling.
