HardWoodFan. For what its worth, my use of different words was simply because of the different manner and order the "stalls" happened. That is all. Simply put I agree with your first point. (And the second also.) Some intense, accusing, and misleading posters were giving false info. I simply used the word stall for SK because their version, which happened first, was ONE possession where they held the ball for over two minutes, maybe close to three while Walton stayed in a 1-3-1. Walton's coach instructed them to wait and allow SK to stall until maybe a little over two minutes. At that point, Walton brought their defense out to make SK move the ball. Again, this was ONE possession. I only used a different word for Walton's version because, although it was still a stall tactic, it was much smaller segments of time over maybe four or so possessions over the last 2 minutes of the game. In the end, they were both attempts to shorten the game, so no big deal.

A couple of things that I bolded from your post that I can't get past... Second bolded. There is no rule that dictates shooting fouls can only be called when shot from the same hand all game. Hailey Ison shoots just about as many left handed shots as she does right. First bolded. If a player shoots a left handed lay up, and the defense grabs her right arm while in the act, that is still a shooting foul. Nowhere is there a foul before the shot or shooting motion....unless the official anticipated it. In that case, he was incorrect. Here is what we can agree on though. The intentional was bogus. It made it go from SK, in a tie ball game, taking the ball out of bounds on the sideline with a little less time left than before, to SK now getting two free throws, making one of two, then getting the possession after that...which resulted in Walton now having to foul and give two more free throws, which SK made. If the intentional wasn't there, then the shooting foul controversy probably doesn't happen.

I think some were looking for intentionals simply because one had already been called just a couple plays earlier. Perhaps their thought was, If you can call one, then why couldn't you call another.

Here is a video of what at least half the place thought was a shooting foul. I am pretty sure even the SK players on the floor thought it was also by the look of their body language. The first part of the video will show the play just before the one in question where Walton inbounded and there was an SK "foul on purpose" since they were up 3 and had a foul to give. Just keep watching and eventually Walton will inbound it again on the sideline. You all can decide. I can tell you, if you haven't seen already, its going to be hard to convince me that Ison was not shooting, especially when she knew that they were going to foul her for free throws instead of give her a 3 point attempt. A shooting foul puts a kid who was the state's leading free throw shooter last year at 90% on the line.

The video did not capture all of the intentional foul call. You can catch just a bit of it on the right side of the screen. In my opinion, it was an over zealous call and not necessary. The SK player fell down, however, how many times do players fall to the ground when fouled. Happens all the time. The situation was maybe somewhere around 30-40 seconds to play. Game tied. Walton only had 3 or 4 team fouls, so they were trying to let a little time of the clock, then foul to make SK inbound the ball again. Basically, they were using their "freebie" fouls, in order to burn clock and keep SK from setting something up offensively. The intentional foul call was the Walton player trying to "chase" down the SK player to get a foul on her. And for sentinel, you can clearly see one official that comes from the right to make the intentional call, the one at the side line, and the one under the basket to the left, do not make the call. The one on the left, you cannot see until the very end of the video.

There is no argument. A very good ball game by two of the top teams in the region that featured two 8th region Player of the Year candidates, that was tied with under a minute, ended up being decided by two controversial calls. That is a bummer...real bummer. And a poster tried to say that neither one made a difference. Well sometimes you gotta stand your ground.

Be patient. You may be sorry you asked for it. At a bare minimum, it's going to make you look silly the way you are describing it is not what the film shows. And your trying hard to throw mean stuff around. It was not dumb at all. SK was fouling on purpose with a three point lead in order to prevent a clean 3 pointer and make Walton shoot free throws. The problem was sk had one to give sitting at six fouls. The play prior to the one in question, SK's Buckner fouled Ison pretty quickly to use some time. Ison KNOWING that she was going to get foiled again was prepared to shoot the ball when the foul came. Honestly, I think it surprised the officials.

Already have. In my strong but honest opinion, Ison was shooting the ball.

You might be having a little something extra in your kool aid. Film shows only one official gave the intentional call.

I am at a Christmas party. When I get home, I will answer those questions. I watched the video on a small screen. Video looks like she was clearly in the act of shooting, however the screen is too small on the camera to see feet. I will hook it to a computer big screen later.

Walton did not stall. SK did in the fourth. Walton was patient late in the game.

The bolded is absolutely incorrect. Are you serious? A tie ball game, under a minute, the bogus intentional gave SK two free throws which SK hit one of two AND then the ball out of bounds, of which Walton fouled and SK hit two free throws. The intentional caused a tie game to go to a 3 point game. It changed everything. Then SK with a three point lead and 10 sec left, opts to foul Ison and not let her get a three off. The second time, Ison, the smartest player in the region, shoots the ball. She was fouled shooting a three and after a little ref meeting they decide to call the foul "on the floor" which was clearly incorrect. Instead of three free throws, she gets two. Hits first, missed second on purpose, but SK secures the loose ball. Ball game. It was clearly decided by officials.

I have no desire to get into this "discussion". I just want to correct one thing. If you take two full steps, it is not legal. It is a walk. Player gets ONE step AFTER picking up their dribble. With the next step they take (2nd), the ball has to be shot or passed before that step is complete (foot lands back on the floor). I guess you could say they get 1 and 7/8 of a step. Sorry to split hairs, but the two steps quote is not technically legal. I am not trying to be offensive here, just thorough. And if Ally was able to Euro Step without a walk call, then that is great news for the 8th region officials. Perhaps some have evolved into modern basketball and not just calling a walk because it looks funny and the crowd yells. Last season they called a eurostep a walk ALL THE TIME. Had a nice thread and discussion with Clyde on this last year that was very helpful.

Agreed. No way CC is 5th in their region. Not. A. Chance. The lowest I would give is 3rd, but even with that, I would have a tough time.

Since I'm in another gym across town, I would appreciate any updates on this one. Sounds like it will be a good game.

You are entitled to your opinion for sure, and there is some to take from what you say, but that opinion would make for some unproductive coaching. A team is going to have a difficult time getting better if they are not honest about their weaknesses and make an effort to improve them or at least to keep them from being exposed. If you are not strong enough to be critiqued and take critique, you probably should stick with rec league.

And one more thing, I agree with keepinitreal on the officials, but I was not going to post anything until a good nights sleep. One big thing for me was the extreme inconsistency. You could not get a read on how they were calling fouls. One play, there would be an insane amount of pushing, holding, volleyball spike hacking and more, all within a short segment of play with no call. Then the next play, it was extremely tight. They would make a call with extremely little and unnoticeable contact that would cause the coaches to scratch their head in disbelief. This did not appear to really favor any team, but it did make the game difficult to watch. There was a large amount of walks not called. Geez. And one doozy that should have got the Gallatin folks in a frenzy. Autumn Bowen had the ball on the left side of the court about three feet outside the three point line and maybe a couple of feet from the side line. She begins a dribble drive to her right and toward the free throw line. As soon as she put the ball on the floor, her pre wrap hair band falls off her head and lands just inside the sideline, at this point far behind her, the defense and out of play. Autumn had a step on her defender and Gallatin was in a spread the floor kind of spacing. It was more than likely going to result in a Walton foul or a Gallatin high percentage bucket. What does the ref do? He blows the whistle to stop play about the time Bowen was at the free throw line driving. I understand stopping play to pick up pre wrap, but I would have thought they would have waited until play stopped on that end of the court. The little piece of pre wrap was all the way out on the extended perimeter and close to the side line out of the play. Thought that was very....rookie.

Walton led from tip to buzzer, and by as much as 17. Walton's biggest struggle was overcoming an uncharacteristic bad free throw shooting night. Some of this might have been the over time game the night before, and not as fresh legs, but they left far more free throw points than usual on the table. The new Gallatin coach is GREAT for Gallatin. Dude can coach and they will, no doubt, continue to improve.
