2015/16 Girls 10th Region Rankings Week 1 (Recap)

Featured Replies

Week one has came and gone in the basketball universe. Some good action close games, some games were blowouts. Here’s a look back at week one in the 10th region.

Team Rankings:

1) Mason County (2-0):

The Royals picked up two wins to begin the season, 57-42 over Beechwood and a thrilling 50-47 win over Ryle. Both of these wins keeps the Lady Royals as the team to beat in the 10th region. Whitney O’Mara leds the Lady Royals in scoring at 14 points per game. Lady Royals will be tested this week when the face top 5 foe, Bracken County and star player Bailey Cummins.

2) Bishop Brossart (2-0):

The Brossarts are off and rolling and when I mean “off and rolling” they are steam rolling their opponents. The Lady Stangs defeated Calvary Christian 56-14 then defeated 10th region foe, Bourbon County 58-35.

3) Bracken County (2-0):

Senior guard Bailey Cummins has led Bracken County to 2 wins this week as she’s scored 19 points in both of Bracken County’s games this season. December 9th will be a showdown slobber knocker as they host #1 Mason County.

4) George Rogers Clark (2-0):

The Lady Cardinals have defeated their two opponents by a combined of 101 points. They defeated Paris 67-24 and Sheldon Clark 72-14. Things won’t get any easier this week as Boyle County, Madison Southern and Madison Central lye ahead for the Lady Cardinals.

5) Campbell County (1-1):

The Lady Camels opened the season on the losing end as they fell to Franklin County 68-47 but would bounce back and pick up a convincing win over Bourbon County, 63-34.

6) Scott (1-2):

A team that was projected to finish about 4th this season has hit hard times, going 1-2 in their opening week of basketball but however their only win came against region opponent, Augusta.

7) Bourbon County (1-2):

The Lady Colonels started the season off on a good note but took a wrong turn and got drilled with two L’s. Bourbon County was defeated by a combined 52 points in their losses.

8) Pendleton County (1-1):

The Lady Wildcats opened the season in thrilling fashion as they defeated Grant County 54-50 but then fell and fell hard to St. Henry 59-23. Pendleton County won’t have an easy week this week as they play #3 Bracken County on Saturday.

9) Paris (1-1):

Paris opened the season at home hosting district foe George Rogers Clark in what would not be a good night for the Lady Hounds as GRC would be too much for the Lady Hounds on their way to a 67-24 win. Paris would bounce back the very next night and defeat visiting Riverside Christian 56-20. Paris awaits another district opponent tomorrow night as they host Montgomery County.

10) St. Patrick (3-2):

St. Patrick is off to a great start this season, winning 3 of their first 5 games after only winning 4 games last season.

11) Nicholas County (0-2):

Nicholas County will be looking to pick up win #1 this week as they face Bath County and Harrison County.

12) Montgomery County (0-3):

The Lady Indians have hit hard times and it doesn’t get any easier this week as they play Paris, Brossart and Scott.

13) Harrison County (0-3):

The Lady Fillies have been pounded in two of their first three games this season losing by 29 to Scott County and 38 to Cooper.

14) Robertson County (0-2):

Robertson County were on the verge of defeating St. Patrick back on December 3 before falling to St. Patrick in a close one 34-32.

15) Augusta (0-3):

Lady Panthers have started the season off 0-3 and things won’t get any easier this week as they prepare to face #3 Bracken County on the road on Tuesday.

16) Calvary Christian (0-2):

The Lady Cougars have yet to hit the 20 point mark this season in a single game.

17) Silver Grove (0-1):

The Lady Trains didn't have a good welcoming back as they fell hard to Villa Madonna 57-16.

CC drops to #5 because they lost to a top 5 team in their first game of the season? Hmm. Brossart takes their spot because they beat the lowest ranked team in the region?

Silver Grove apparently has fielded a team this year.

Added Silver Grove. Forgot they fielded a team this season. This is the first time for me doing the 10th region girls so things will be a little rusty but should get better as the weeks go on.

I do not see Brossart, Campbell county or Scott on the schedule. That is a seeded district. So is that 3 losses that they will take?

FWIW, I'm glad to see the are giving a few ladies the opportunity to bond with other teammates and play a little hoops!

Agreed. No way CC is 5th in their region. Not. A. Chance. The lowest I would give is 3rd, but even with that, I would have a tough time.

Could be or they could be scheduled just not posted on KHSAA yet?

Could be or they could be just playing for the 4th or 5th seed with Calvary.

Believe me, their records are not showing where they rank. Some teams have played against really good talent, while other victories are won from a weak opponent. The preseason rankings are still a lot closer on where teams stand than this list.

No way Bracken is 3rd or Campbell is 5th. This is strictly based off records instead of team comparison and who the losses were to.

I would have to agree that it should be based off the strength of schedule. Yes Campbell did have a loss but it was to a top 8 team and they did beat Bourbon by a bigger margin than Brossart so the only other win Brossart has is against Calvary. I wouldn't consider that grounds to be put into the 2 spot. Just my opinion though.

Although I am a Polar Bear I also feel Bracken is wayyyy to high

I concur. Switch them and I agree with it.
