We called the game on Holy Cross Radio, and I will agree with most of this post. These two teams are equally matched in my opinion. Give Notre Dame credit for getting a closely contested home win. I said prior to the game first one to 40 might win it and that's what happened. I was very impressed with Sarah Young as she had 17 pts and 13 rebs. Addie Lawrie off the bench was excellent as well. Holy Cross contained Stallard (3 pts) and Holtzapfel (9 pts) well all night long. D'Myah Williams led Holy Cross with 13 pts and Jai Johnson has 12. Turnovers were a factor for both teams. Holy Cross with 16 and ND with 23. Credit needs to go Holy Cross for creating those 23 turnovers. On the flip side and a concern for Holy Cross was shooting 6/15 from the FT line. If they "clean those up" they win probably win this game in regulation. All in all a great early test between 2 of the top 5 teams clearly in the 9th. Congrats to ND. Round 2 later on in the season will be another fun one. Shoutout to the Notre Dame AD. Very nice lady and very helpful for my radio team.

Should be a very hotly contested game as it always is between these two great schools. If I calculated it correctly "Double Deuce" also since 1998, Notre Dame leads winning 28 times with Holy Cross winning 20. Final from Union. Luke Arlinghaus a big 3 from about 27 feet out to give Holy Cross the lead with about 6 seconds left to win a back and forth game. Holy Cross competes the road 3-game sweep at Cooper, at Conner & at Ryle in the first 10 days. They play at Campbell Co on Thursday. More details later…..

Holy Cross (3-0) travels to Union tonight to take on Ryle (0-1). Should be a great matchup in December between two of the top 5 teams in the 9th region. They were led by Seniors Brady Gabbard with 21 points (and 2 highlight dunks), Nate Rominger 20 and Luke Arlinghaus with 17. Conner was led by Brady Bushman with 20 points. This post is spot on. And if the school in this case didn’t question or fight the reason for said transfer….that should tell you that they didn’t want to fight it or try to block it because there was plenty there and knew it was legit.

Only one 9th Region team in the top 25.

Holy Cross Radio will be starting their 15th year broadcasting boys and girls games. We will have a new link this year through HUDL fan. Historically the 9th region has been snubbed on these pre season rankings from the Courier Journal. Surprised only one team is in it but not shocked. I know Cooper, Newport and even Lloyd have gotten love the last few years but overall and historically the 9th is overlooked. Could easily make an argument for Holy Cross and/or Highlands to be in the top 25 to start the season with what they each have coming back. Everyone's "go to" narrative to start the season is how big "the gap" is between Cov Cath and everyone else in the 9th (and they may be right). Cov Cath will always get the love and they should. But I think people are defaulting to it because they see people saying it over and over already so it's easy to agree. Can't wait to watch the season actually play out.

I got to see most of the Holy Cross/Sycamore matchup. Two really good teams went at each other in this one. Lot of ball pressure from both teams. I know Sycamore returns 4 or maybe all 5 starters from last year's team that was really good. They are well coached and ran solid offensive sets to get their 3-pt shooters open looks. They play a lot on the perimeter. They will be a top team in their division in Ohio. Holy Cross looked good as well. I think Junior D'Myah Williams will take a big step forward offensively this year for Coach Ted Arlinghaus. She is so athletic, long and can run the floor. Add in Jai Johnson at the point and Alyssa Arlinghaus on the outside they have a really good core group back. Transfer Riley Eberhard looked solid as well yesterday. She will be a great addition to this group and could average double digits in my opinion. Sophomore Avery Sturgeon (DNP yesterday) but will be another player to keep an eye on as she can shoot the 3 for Coach Arlinghaus. Freshman Lacey Hunt and Paige Arlinghaus will get a lot of playing time as well. As far as the game, the first 20 minutes it was tied up at 19-19. The next half I think Sycamore won by a few and then Holy Cross won the 3rd by maybe 6 or so.

I don't disagree with the gap at all as Cov Cath is the clear #1 for sure. I've also been around sports long enough to know that the season doesn't always play out the way we think. The beauty of sports is that anything can happen especially in high school sports. One bad night. ?

Was thinking the same thing with Beechwood at #3. Like with all these rankings time will tell as we get the season going. FWIW here is my pre-season top 5. 1. Cov Cath 2. Highlands 3. Holy Cross 4. Ryle 5. Lloyd

Well done Knight Owl, this is a very solid preseason preview of the 9th region !!! While I do think going into the season there appears to be a bigger gap than normal between #1 Cov Cath and the rest of the top 5, we need to let the season play out. So much can happen between now and March. It will be interesting to see just how far Cooper & Newport fall off from where they have been. The 35th district appears to be really strong with Cov Cath/Holy Cross up top.
