  1. Off topic—but I’m surprised that there was an intitial time allotment for 2 student speeches. We were told that our ceremony would be done in 1 hour, and it was. Only one speech given, the Valedictorian. Maybe we had a larger class than HC, which took up the time as individuals are called by name.
  2. Loved “Safe”! Going to start “The Five” very soon.
  3. From the update thread. http://bluegrasspreps.com/ky-softball-high/campbell-county-pendleton-365654.html
  4. Have to admit that I’m surprised that the local pope did not show up for Holy Cross’s commencement ceremony.
  5. What a wonderful human being. His students are lucky to have him as a teacher. The rest of us are fortunate to witness his bravery. Prayers for a full recovery.
  6. On ACT scores, how a school publishes the scores can be misleading. Is the school publishing the average of ALL students in that class who took the ACT? Or is the school just reporting the average of the top 20% of the ACT scores?
  7. I tead this comment on Facebook. It is referencing the state track championship meet on this past Thursday. “I cannot offer any kind words for the Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) - scheduling a state track meet for a school day is one thing but on a day of Advanced Placement tests is disgraceful. The KHSAA made STUDENT-athletes choose between taking tests that would gain college credit and competing at state. I think we should encourage kids to challenge themselves academically and not punish them. The bright side of this experience is that the students carried themselves with grace and dignity and did what they could under trying circumstances. Maybe, they taught a lesson to the KHSAA.” Thoughts on this?
  8. Sorry I missed it! Love what you have created here. Happy Birthday, Guru!
  9. St Henry’s Ethan Snyder is distance beast! State champion in the 3200M! A great student as well. He will continue his running career at Western Kentucky University.
  10. Very very true. I have seen kids this mimic some kind of oppositional defiance. And a sibling from same parents who is kind and respectful.
  11. St Henry had a big night on Thursday at Scott. Both the boys and girls teams got first place. Well done, Crusaders!
  12. I think that there is a growing negativity toward the institution of school. Students don’t understand the benefits of attending school and they don’t appreciate the learning that happens in school. They don’t have parents who support the schools and who acknowledge the student growth and achievement in schools. Couple this with an overwhelming entitlement and “I don’t have to do it”, mentality, and you have students who have a twisted idea of how to move past personal set backs in school and in life.
  13. The numbers are going to continue to climb. Children learn what they live. If it’s no big deal to be high while raising your kids, your kids will see that it’s no big deal to get high. So with more “impaired judgement” people living among us, there will be more pregnancies by drug addicted women.
  14. Who was your favorite character in TWD? Now imagine him gone.
  15. I think that if you are using crying as a way to manipulate a situation or manipulate others, then that’s kind of unstable.
  16. All 3 are seniors. Any juniors, sophomores or frosh showing promise?
  17. The bolded. I’m completely invested in my kids. I have one child who struggles daily with pretty much everything. So I typically shed tears privately about that, daily. For some people, crying is coping. I can think of many worse ways to cope.
  18. Great point, TBandG! Perfect! I get misty/cry very easily—and for a variety of reasons, mostly because I get emotional about my kids, friends and other loved ones. Heck—I get misty eyed when a student finally “gets it”, or is able to perform a task they have struggled with. However, I will say that I see plenty of people that constantly yell, are mean, and make sure that they let everyone around them know when they are displeased and unhappy with every day stuff. Unfortunately, the loud, angry, disrespectful person is always revered.
