In the first half of today's game Boone handled the Princeton pressure nearly flawlessly, passed the ball with precision, moved very well on offense, and got easy shots? In the second half they did none of that and looked tired. Pretty typical of HS girls basketball, particularly early in the season...................inconsistent. I've seen all but two of Boone's games and I see a team getting better and better, and I think today's second half letdown will be the big exception to the rule as this season goes on. When they are consistent they are hard to handle.

Boone lead 34-21 at half but failed to meet the intensity of the aggressive Princeton squad and seemed to go dead-legged and lost on a Princeton close-in goal with 3 seconds left. Sydney Moss led Boone with 21 points and 11 rebounds.

I liked Beal a lot. She has gobs of potential. Quick, pretty good handle. With playing time and experience I think she will develop into a fine, fine player.

Sydney Moss had 30 points and 10 rebounds (unofficial) for Boone in less than 1/2 of game action. She had 13 in the 1st period including a last second three, sat out a good bit of the 2nd, then scored 13 straight points in about 3 minutes, punctuated with another three, to start the 3rd and exited the game for good. Moss was simply too strong for Warren Central and was the beneficiary of some nice feeds from teammates as both Heather Sandlin and Joscelyn Davis found her inside with good position to score. The lopsided win gave Boone coach Nell Fookes the opportunity to give some promising young players some significant minutes.

I didn't particularly listen but I'm sure she had some things to say! And it seemed to work.

26-22 at half as Boone kinda slept walked through it. Defensive intensity picked up for the Lady Rebels in the second half as they held HC to just 7 points, only 2 in the third quarter and the other 5 coming late in the fourth.

Game at Ryle. Was told Sarah Beth Barnette had 31 for Lexington Christian. It's a crazy game.....girls basketball! Ryle beat Louisville Ballard by 9 at Ballard and Ballard beat Lexington Christian by 15 at LC. Now LC beats Ryle at Ryle. Go figure!

I would certainly agree. I read what was posted as simply a factual explanation of why Sacred Heart was far from full strength. Most teams I've seen would be devastatingly effected by the loss of their two top players.

Former Boone County point guard Jacy Bradley got the first start of her college carreer for St. Louis U. against Evansville and responded with a 15 point performance that included 3-4 from three. Bradley was getting increasing playing time prior to her first start and is averaging 7.9 points per game, playing an average of 22.6 minutes per game, and is shooting a team best 47.8% from three. She was named Team Player of the Week following her performance against Evansville. Jacy also has the best assist to turnover ratio on the team at 23/14. Pretty impressive stuff for a true freshman 8 games into her college career! :clap: Keep up the good work Jacy!!! :thumb:

Hard to recap a game you don't see! Probably won't see another until the Northern Exposure Classic. Maybe I can do better then!

Per NCAA rules, October 7, 2009 through February 28, 2010, is an "Evaluation Period" (With the exception of Nov. 9-12, 2009, and Dec. 24-26, 2009) so coaches can be off campus in that period as one of their allowable 100 recruiting-person days (A recruiting person day is defined as one coach engaged in an off-campus recruiting activity of a women’s basketball prospect on one day; two coaches engaged in recruiting activities on the same day shall use two recruiting days). The college coach may watch a prospect play or visit their high school, but cannot have any in-person conversations with the prospect or her parents off the college's campus. The recruit and their parents can visit a college campus during this period. A coach may write and telephone the prospect or her parents during this time.

Antonita Slaughter had 21 points and 7 boards for CAL and was named the outstanding player for her squad. She hit three 3's, all from well outside the men's college 3-point line and is an outstanding offensive player and certainly worthy of her ranking among Kentucky HS players. Slaughter was 8-10 from the floor and 3-4 from three. Allison Karst had 14 and freshman guard China Dow added 13 for the winners. Senior point guard Heather Sandlin scored 12 for Boone County and was named her team's outstanding player. Sophomore Sydney Moss had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Boone. The Lady Centurions jumped out to a 7-0 lead, with a long opening three by Slaughter, and maintained control over a cold shooting Boone squad throughout the game. Boone made a run in the second quarter to cut CAL's 9-point opening quarter lead to 3. That surge was lead by Moss who showed some excellent moves and jumping ability inside and was difficult for the taller Slaughter to stop around the basket. But Slaughter answered with another long 3 and a hoop-and-one on a drive to push the margin back to nine. The halftime margin of 10 could have been closer had Boone County been able to hit the open look three's they had at the end of both the first and second quarters. The third quarter saw CAL pull away with a bunch of layups off of run outs on Boone misses or against a Boone press that was ineffective and was broken time and again by some nice passing by the veteran CAL squad.

I don't know about a tournament, may be, but Christian Academy of Louisville and Boone County play at 4:00 PM (changed from original 5:30 start). Antonita Slaughter of CAL is considered by many as the top player in the state.

This was a ragged opener between two of the higher (pre-season) ranked teams from the Ninth Region and Northern Kentucky. The contest was filled with turnovers, more by Boone (officially 20) than by Newport Central Catholic. Key to creating those turnovers for the NCC squad was the quick hands and defensive savy of point guard Courtney Sandfoss who created a lot of problems for Boone. Sandfoss was also the games top scorrer with 15 points. Her main support came from senior center Mariah Tabor who had 8 and was New Cath's leading rebounder. Boone's scoring was balanced as returning forward Joscelyn Davis had 11, and new point guard Heather Sandlin tallied 10 as did Ryle transfer Sydney Moss. Moss was credited with 11 rebounds as well. Twice during the contest Boone ran up double digit margins only to see NCC scrap back and cut into the lead. New Cath cut the Boone margin on their last run to 34-29 at just under 5 minutes to play but Boone's Cortney Sellers drilled a crucial 3-pointer for her only points of the game and that pretty much sealed the final outcome. Davis put the final nails in the coffin with a couple of free throws with just under 2 minutes remaining. Boone obviously missed the steadying influence provided by departed four-year starter Jacy Bradley (now at St. Louis U.) and will need to take better care of the basketball as the season progresses. You can bet that will be a focus of veteran coach Nell Fookes in future practices. And it is unlikely the Rebels will run into another defensive disrupter to match Sandfoss. The game was attended by several college scouts and high school coaches scouting future opponents in BC and NCC. This was a hard played game with the typical first game mistakes. Look for both teams to have solid seasons and perhaps face one another post season as they did last year.

The link in the post by Clyde says Callen Cheesman is the freshman coach and Douthit is the JV coach. But I agree with you in that I have a ton of respect for Chris. Didn't get to know Callen well enough to have an opinion on him.
