  1. I'm not sure I'm reading this correctly but it would appear you're saying Moss is a selfish player. If that's the case you haven't seen Boone County play much this year. Moss certainly plays within the team concept and, IMO, frequently passes the ball when she should be shooting it. And no way was she going to stay at Ryle. :walk: Too bad she wasn't at Boone all along.
  2. Absolutely! All-Tournament Team: 2010 GIRLS’ ALL TOURNAMENT TEAM Haley Armstrong Murray Sarah Beth Barnette Lexington Christian Academy Kiley Bartels Newport Central Catholic Robin Deckard Louisville Holy Cross Becca Greenwell Owensboro Catholic Kim Mingus Louisville Holy Cross Kelsea Mitchell Green County Olivia Moore Louisville Holy Cross Kaley Robertson Owensboro Catholic Janssen Starks Murray Mariah Tabor Newport Central Catholic Hannah Thiem Newport Central Catholic Most Valuable Player: Courtney Sandfoss, Newport Central Catholic Four from NCC. Great job girls!!!
  3. Go to this Yahoo search link.....http://search.yahoo.com/search?fr=yfp-t-701-s&toggle=1&cop=mss&ei=UTF8&rd=r2&p=laurie%20pirtle.....and read the various articles about Coach Pirtle. I only know of her through watching a few Cincinnati Heat practices but she is an intense, energetic teacher who really knows the game. I was particularly impressed with the defensive principles she was teaching the sessions I watched.
  4. NCC will play the Murray - Walton-Verona winner Saturday at 11:30 AM in the semis.
  5. If you are talking about the Cincinnati Heat (sometimes referred to the Hardwood Heat) I would recommend them highly. I've had an association with them through my granddaughter for two years and it is an outstanding program IMO. They teach and stress fundamentals and play team basketball and that isn't always the case with all AAU programs. Many of their coaches and instructors are veterans from the high school and college level. They have age groups from the 3rd grade up and play in tournaments in all those age groups. The older teams travel and play in some outstanding tournaments. Last year those included ones in Raleigh, Atlanta, Louisville, and Los Angeles where they played against really tough competition from across the country. From my perspective the Heat is an outstanding program run by solid people who are interested in the kids as people as well as athletes.
  6. Not a bad idea, especially since this has been beat to death several times before. If you are someone who honestly hasn't heard the story, as opposed to someone just stirring the drink, just enter "Sydney Moss" in the search feature and you can read all the past "discussions" on the subject. I just did. Interesting reading. And after reading some of those threads I'm betting there are some who probably wish there was no trace of past posts! :ohbrother:
  7. Boone Co. 10 11 11 15 47 Simon Kenton 8 8 11 6 33 Boone Co. (16-3) -- Fields 2, Davis 6, Shrout 9, Browning 5, Sandlin 3, Moss 22. Simon Kenton (16-4) -- Ponzer 5, Stephenson 12, Pace 4, Brown 7, Blevins 5.
  8. I could add a lot of "thoughts" to this..........but I won't! :sssh:
  9. Anyone have any details? Heard that Moss had 33 for Boone but no official confirmation.
  10. I'm not sure I've seen a thread where so many say "Let it go" and then post again and again!!! With that in mind I'll have one more say and then "let it go".............until I decide to post again! I said this in an earlier post: I'll add this additional caveat........The transfer was not about basketball. Moss was willing to sit and not play this season to make the move.
  11. Marschall is still trying to come back from that serious knee injury and that takes time. She is getting playing time with the JV to try to help that process. She plays for short periods and then comes out. I think that is by design and is done to not go too fast with her recovery. If she can get back fully that will make Boone even stronger.
  12. Moss actually plays a double post at Boone and is often away from the basket. Last night she missed her first 3 shoots, all close in and heavily contested. She then hit her next 11, not including a past mid-court "throw" at the end of the half. Five of those shots were face-up 12-15 footers. She does score a lot inside because it's difficult to stop her. She has scored over and around some of the best "big" players in the state, all taller than she. The most formidible defensively was Sarah Hammond of Rockcastle County. She is long (legit 6-2), long armed, good jumper, outstanding shot blocker. Moss had 27 against Hammond. The fact that Moss is now hitting the shots away from the basket makes her that much more difficult to defend. As to Boone "feeding" her, I guess that depends on perspective. Do they look for her in their sets? Of course, why wouldn't they, but she gets her shots within the offense. She is averaging 15.6 shots per game to get 22.1 PPG. There are other players in Region 9 averaging that many shots per game and only Lauren Tibbs is above 20 PPG (~23.5 last time I checked). The idea expressed that she could become a candidate for Miss BB in Kentucky? That's a ways off but it very well could be. I expect her to just get better over the next couple years at Boone as she continues to learn and understand more about the game and is tutored by Coach Fookes to utilize her talent.
  13. Coach Fookes had no hand in getting Moss to Boone. That was a decision made by Moss and her mother and approved by the Boone County BOE and the KHSSA. Nell has been an instrumental figure in the improvement shown by Moss over the past couple of seasons but Moss is a "happy camper" at Boone and that's a huge factor.
  14. I had started a reply to your post but doubledeuce has already done so "appropriately". I used my better judgement and deleted my original one. :sssh: One additional thought though. When you start your post with "I don't know" anything after that becomes speculative and subject to some interesting interpretation from those who understand all the dynamics involved. There are several things I wanted to respond to in this thread but your post took priority.
  15. Are you saying you consider it "bad behavior" to play your regulars less than 3 quarters of games and allow your reserves to play significant minutes????? Helps us understand your response, maybe I'm missing something.
  16. Let's look at the Boone games you mention here, since I believe I can show why Boone doesn't deserve criticism for them: Boone 66 Cooper 29 The starters played an average of 24 minutes in that game, an average of 3 quarters each, and scored 52 of the 66 points. Boone played 12 players in the game. Boone 97 Purcell Marion 42 The starters played an average of 19 minutes each, less than 2 1/2 quarters each, and scored 51 of the 97 points. Boone played 11 players in the game. Boone 57 Holy Cross 29 Starters played an average of only 21 minutes each and scored 32 of the 57 points. Boone played 14 players. Boone 71 Campbell County 46 Starters played an average of 19 minutes each and scored 45 of the 71 points. Boone played 15 players in the game. In the four games mentioned Boone starters played an average of only 21 minutes each (again, about 2 1/2 quarters) and scored just 62% of the points Boone produced in those games. As I said in an earlier post, sometimes talent differences and other things simply dictate a lopsided score. But there are ways to minimize the score difference. Playing reserves is one way. In the four games listed I don't think a Boone starter played in the last quarter of any game. The scores were lopsided but could have been even moreso had Boone chosen to play the regulars more. Coach Fookes chose to play the kids who work hard all week but don't always have a chance to get in games.
  17. From checking scores you must be speaking of NCC as "your team" in replying to Blue Pride. I can't find a box score on their game with Holmes, but I suspect I'd find the same thing I see in their box against Ludlow. In that game NetCath ran out to a big first quarter lead and then played everybody. Fourteen players scored for NCC in the game and it appears the starters accounted for no more than 30 of the 68 points they scored. Sometimes it is difficult to keep the score down because of differences in talent (and other factors can come in to play as well). Playing the reserves a lot is a way to help when that imbalance occurs.
  18. Final Regulars sat a lot. 17 points from Lydia Nash who typically backs up Moss. Great job Lydia! From Kentucky.com: Campbell Co. 11 9 8 12 40 Boone Co. 25 18 17 11 71 Campbell Co. (7-6) -- Dumaine 2, Griffin 2, McGovern 1, Berkley 9, Brooks 1, Rauch 9, Miller 4, Peters 12. Boone Co. (12-3) -- Marschall 2, Davis 8, Spicer 2, Shrout 3, Browning 4, Sandlin 7, Moss 23, Nash 17, Switzer 5.
  19. Yes, she was on Allen most of the time. Of course Sandfoss turned an ankle and missed probably six minutes of the second quarter. She had the ankle iced the rest of the half and I thought she might be done for the game, but she was back and played well, as you said, without scoring a lot but directing the NCC attack and playing the tough D. Allen's only FG was on a fast break layup.
  20. Ugly game............but exciting! Lots of defense, Highlands in a zone and NCC in man, lots of turnovers, lots of missed shots. NCC came back from 11 point and then 9 point second half deficits to win on a steal and layup by Courtney Sandfoss with 3.4 seconds left. NCC used smothering full court pressure to fuel the comeback. I'm not sure about the time but I believe Highlands was up 9 with about 3:30 or so left and went to a delay game which ended in a turnover. After NCC scored they applied the full court pressure and Highlands turned the ball over several times to allow New Cath to get back into and finally tie the game with about 20 seconds or so left. Highlands called a timeout to set up a play but the NCC pressure forced a risky pass that was deflected. Sandfoss flashed between two Highlands players who appeared to have the best opportunity to get the deflected ball, picked it off, and zipped to the basket for an easy lay up. NCC's last effort ended when a mid-court pass was picked off on the end bounds play.
  21. I'd say he was pretty close, It was 23 at the 1:26 mark when Boone put five completely new players on the floor.
  22. 260 points at Heritage as a 7th grader in 21 games, 285 at Ryle in 19 games after being brought up from the middle school team as an 8th grader, 185 at Ryle in 13 games (not all in a starting role) after starting late and leaving the team as a freshman, and now 282 in 13 games as a sophomore at Boone. If she had played the games at Ryle that she could have played, or had she gone to Boone after Heritage, that total would likely be approaching 1500!
