  1. I would certainly agree. I read what was posted as simply a factual explanation of why Sacred Heart was far from full strength. Most teams I've seen would be devastatingly effected by the loss of their two top players.
  2. Ryle 11 14 10 12 47 Tates Creek 9 16 12 6 43 Lady Defender Classic at Bryan Station Ryle (4-0) -- Oliverio 4, Cheesman 7, Jump 11, Johnson 10, Crittendon 15. Tates Creek (2-2) -- Harrison 4, Etling-Turner 7, Jonas 12, Pitten 2, Hisel 18.
  3. Former Boone County point guard Jacy Bradley got the first start of her college carreer for St. Louis U. against Evansville and responded with a 15 point performance that included 3-4 from three. Bradley was getting increasing playing time prior to her first start and is averaging 7.9 points per game, playing an average of 22.6 minutes per game, and is shooting a team best 47.8% from three. She was named Team Player of the Week following her performance against Evansville. Jacy also has the best assist to turnover ratio on the team at 23/14. Pretty impressive stuff for a true freshman 8 games into her college career! Keep up the good work Jacy!!! :thumb:
  4. That would be good. Maybe Crunch-time could help us out there some when he's in town. But I understand where his priorities are. Hope to see you at the NEC........and keep up the good work with the pictures. I'm sure all who follow girl's BB appreciate your work.
  5. Hard to recap a game you don't see! Probably won't see another until the Northern Exposure Classic. Maybe I can do better then!
  6. Was told, unofficially, that Moss had 25.......no further stats at this time.
  7. Per NCAA rules, October 7, 2009 through February 28, 2010, is an "Evaluation Period" (With the exception of Nov. 9-12, 2009, and Dec. 24-26, 2009) so coaches can be off campus in that period as one of their allowable 100 recruiting-person days (A recruiting person day is defined as one coach engaged in an off-campus recruiting activity of a women’s basketball prospect on one day; two coaches engaged in recruiting activities on the same day shall use two recruiting days). The college coach may watch a prospect play or visit their high school, but cannot have any in-person conversations with the prospect or her parents off the college's campus. The recruit and their parents can visit a college campus during this period. A coach may write and telephone the prospect or her parents during this time.
  8. Antonita Slaughter had 21 points and 7 boards for CAL and was named the outstanding player for her squad. She hit three 3's, all from well outside the men's college 3-point line and is an outstanding offensive player and certainly worthy of her ranking among Kentucky HS players. Slaughter was 8-10 from the floor and 3-4 from three. Allison Karst had 14 and freshman guard China Dow added 13 for the winners. Senior point guard Heather Sandlin scored 12 for Boone County and was named her team's outstanding player. Sophomore Sydney Moss had 14 points and 11 rebounds for Boone. The Lady Centurions jumped out to a 7-0 lead, with a long opening three by Slaughter, and maintained control over a cold shooting Boone squad throughout the game. Boone made a run in the second quarter to cut CAL's 9-point opening quarter lead to 3. That surge was lead by Moss who showed some excellent moves and jumping ability inside and was difficult for the taller Slaughter to stop around the basket. But Slaughter answered with another long 3 and a hoop-and-one on a drive to push the margin back to nine. The halftime margin of 10 could have been closer had Boone County been able to hit the open look three's they had at the end of both the first and second quarters. The third quarter saw CAL pull away with a bunch of layups off of run outs on Boone misses or against a Boone press that was ineffective and was broken time and again by some nice passing by the veteran CAL squad.
  9. I don't know about a tournament, may be, but Christian Academy of Louisville and Boone County play at 4:00 PM (changed from original 5:30 start). Antonita Slaughter of CAL is considered by many as the top player in the state.
  10. This was a ragged opener between two of the higher (pre-season) ranked teams from the Ninth Region and Northern Kentucky. The contest was filled with turnovers, more by Boone (officially 20) than by Newport Central Catholic. Key to creating those turnovers for the NCC squad was the quick hands and defensive savy of point guard Courtney Sandfoss who created a lot of problems for Boone. Sandfoss was also the games top scorrer with 15 points. Her main support came from senior center Mariah Tabor who had 8 and was New Cath's leading rebounder. Boone's scoring was balanced as returning forward Joscelyn Davis had 11, and new point guard Heather Sandlin tallied 10 as did Ryle transfer Sydney Moss. Moss was credited with 11 rebounds as well. Twice during the contest Boone ran up double digit margins only to see NCC scrap back and cut into the lead. New Cath cut the Boone margin on their last run to 34-29 at just under 5 minutes to play but Boone's Cortney Sellers drilled a crucial 3-pointer for her only points of the game and that pretty much sealed the final outcome. Davis put the final nails in the coffin with a couple of free throws with just under 2 minutes remaining. Boone obviously missed the steadying influence provided by departed four-year starter Jacy Bradley (now at St. Louis U.) and will need to take better care of the basketball as the season progresses. You can bet that will be a focus of veteran coach Nell Fookes in future practices. And it is unlikely the Rebels will run into another defensive disrupter to match Sandfoss. The game was attended by several college scouts and high school coaches scouting future opponents in BC and NCC. This was a hard played game with the typical first game mistakes. Look for both teams to have solid seasons and perhaps face one another post season as they did last year.
  11. The link in the post by Clyde says Callen Cheesman is the freshman coach and Douthit is the JV coach. But I agree with you in that I have a ton of respect for Chris. Didn't get to know Callen well enough to have an opinion on him.
  12. I had heard that, since Ryle plays Marion County later in the season, they wouldn't show everything. I suspect most teams don't show everything they have in scrimmage games. Based on the comparative athleticism I saw in that scrimmage, I agree with you that in man-to-man Ryle would find the going even tougher against MC. Guess we'll see when they meet later.
  13. I'm not totally familiar with Marion County but I think they did have what I believe are their top three players, all starters from last season, Kayla Epps, Kyvin Goodin-Rogers, and Breanna Elder who is the player whose name I didn't pick up in my original scrimmage report. In viewing articles in the Louisville Courier Journal I recognized her picture so I'm sure she played.
  14. I think I did point out the high points of what Jump did, although I didn't have complete stats. She, like about any other player in the scrimmages, did some good things and some not so good things. That's to be expected early in the season.
  15. I watched two of the varsity scrimmages. As in many pre-season scrimmages the scoreboard clears after each quarter but I kept a running total to get to the scores I'll list. In the first game I saw Boone County outscored Casey County by a 54-45 margin. The teams were even at 14 in the first quarter as Casey County sophomore center Megan Pittman was particularly impressive with 10 points, including 6-6 (I believe) from the foul line. Boone County senior Jocelyn Davis had 6 to lead her squad. Boone gained control in the second quarter as Ryle transfer sophomore Sydney Moss had 6 and began to play physical against Pittman, although Pttman got in a good shot to the jaw of the bulkier Moss! The third quarter was interesting as Boone played none of its starters at all and the reserves actually boosted the lead. Boone has a number of sophomores and they played a significant amount of time throughout the game and looked pretty good for the most part. Casey County outscored Boone by 2 in the final stanza as Coach Nell Fookes went away from her traditional man-to-man defense and experimented with the zone. It was obvious that Boone was much better in the man and I suspect that will be what most teams see from the Rebels as the regular season unfolds. Casey County, who was 29-4 last year, lost three starters to graduation and is pretty young. I'd expect them to get better as the season goes on and Pittman is going to be a handfull for anyone that faces Casey. Boone is pretty solid with three returning starters and Moss moving into the lineup. The trio of Davis, Moss, and Heather Sandlin played AAU ball together all summer and they seem to have become very comfortable working together. Moss is an excellent passer and if teams double her down low I'd expect Davis to be the beneficiary of some good feeds. The second game found Ryle coming out hot from three and taking a 2 point lead (16-14) at the quarter over Marion County. Abby Jump had 3-threes in the quarter and Ashley Cheesman added another. Casey County switched to a man in the second quarter and that changed the complexion of the game. Ryle relys a lot on the three and was not able to get the open looks as easily once Marion County switched out of the zone. The final tally was 61-47 Marion County. Ryle did hit several other threes, at least two more by Jump (possibly 3), including a banked 30 footer at the final buzzer that falls on the pure luck side. Jenna Crittendon has several as well but Ryle showed little or no inside game and was badly beaten on the boards. They also had trouble with full court pressure when Marion County went to that. On one occasion Ryle had to call timeout as their guard got double-teamed trapped. After the timeout that same trap occurred again and Ryle turned the ball over and Marion County got a layup out of it. Marion County featured a couple of nice looking freshman players. Kayla Epps, daughter of former UK standout Anthony Epps, played the point and handled the ball and ran the offense very well. She also scored well but was very selective in her shot selection. Epps probably had 3-5 three's, missing only twice I believe and also scored on drives, usually after a steal. Epps also pressured Jump most of the time after that first quarter. Jump did get free on screens for some open threes and hit a couple of nice drives, arching the ball high off the glass over taller defenders, but Epps really made her work. The other freshman for Marion County that had a nice game was Kyvin Goodin-Rogers (daughter of Former Louisville BB standout Tick Rogers). I've seen Goodin-Rogers listed as a pivot but she played a lot on the perimeter and hit a handful of threes, often being set up by Epps. She displayed a quick release and seemed to catch the ball in shooting position. MC also had another player that impressed me but I didn't get a name. She played a lot inside and was a quick jumper who grabbed a number of boards and blocked several shots. She seemed to have a nose for the ball. That's what I can remember from the couple of games I watched.
  16. Here's the schedule. Looks like a good lineup. Both Varsity and JV scrimmages wil be conducted. 10 a.m. Gym 1 Green Co. vs. Grayson Co. Gym 2 Western Hills vs. Clark Co. 1 p.m. Gym 1 Casey Co. vs. Boone Co. Gym 2 Heath vs. Metcalfe Co. 4 p.m. Gym 1 Marion Co. vs. Ryle Gym 2 Breck Co. vs. N. Laurel 7 p.m. Gym 1 E-town vs. Shelby Co. Gym 2 No Game
  17. ................if Boone County has a scrimmage game this coming weekend and when/where?
  18. Is Moss at Ockerman? I thought he was at Gray.
  19. I hear that Moss and Coach Fookes are getting along swimmingly. As far as becoming a team player, anyone who has seen her play AAU BB would understand that she IS a team player. And of course she played this summer with a couple of Boone County players and they got along vey well.
  20. Yep! And I like your "illustration"!
  21. Here is a link that has the schedule (from KHSAA site): http://scoreboard.12dt.com/scoreboard/khsaa/kygbk09/spec_5472 Practice starts tomorrow, right?!?!
  22. Found out this info was only partially correct. The Memphis Elite team did win last year's 15U title but they were also just coming off winning the 2009 16U National AAU Championship. That makes this Heat win even more impressive. Also found out Moss totaled 19 in that 54-53 win.
  23. I wasn't actually there so I don't know how many were there but I'm betting it was like all the other MTW events I've been to (as have you). Probably a typical amount. I got very good, routine updates from Aunty Ang who played a bit of B-Ball in her day and knows what's going on. I'm persona non gratis now so I stayed away. Maybe someday I'll catch another game.
