Charlie Barr has been around for over 30 years. I believe my brother-in-law was telling me he came there in 1975 or 1977. He has to be the winningest coach in Highlands history. He is pretty laid back and calm most of the time. If Dale wants to come in and be a personal cheerleader for the guys, let him. I was worried however when a few times all I could hear was Dale screaming and jumping up and down on the sidelines. At one point I thought he was going to have a stroke! I rarely see him get this pumped up at the Varsity games but I guess that's because I am distracted by Coach Weinrich's intensity. Good win Birds. Look forward to the next one. BTW, did anyone notice that the PA-system was very loud? Not complaining, it was nice to actually hear everything the announcer was saying for a change.

Amongst all this discussion of the game being moved...........then this??????????????????????????? Come on. Really by a whole touchdown?????????? I better go to the game to make sure this doesn't happen.

Good post LN, I am hearing a call for up to 5 inches of rain this weekend. What are the mighty weather men/women calling for around gametime? I really would like to see this game happen. They could always move the game over to Highlands if Holmes' field wont hold up to the water.......??????

How about having our schools score 2nd best in the state as a district on the CATS testing. It's really nice to have a school that has brains and braun!

Henry, I want you to know that tonight I became a doer. I took my girls up to the frosh game and they rolled around up in the former "pumkin patch" area and they looked like they were working on a car. Covered with dirt from head to toe! They also picked up garbage and put it in the can. I did my part to help clean the stadium, well atleast part of it. PS-Good win for the baby birds tonight! :thumb:

I don't think so. I wish HHS played either of them this year. This would be the year that I think that the "Louisville is the Supreme of football in Kentucky" notion would be put to bed. Maybe we'll get to play them again one of these days.

Yep, I really like the idea of obtaining that land where Kmart is. Not that I wish it upon anyone but, the reality is, when that new pavilion goes in across from Blockbuster, Not only will it hurt Kmart plaza and stores there, but it will also probably further damage the already crumbling reputation of the Newport Shopping Center across the street from there as well. I would imagine that the lower level (the old Van Lunen's) will not suffer but may see some new stores since Kroger will put the over-priced and unsatisfactory selection of Remke's out of business, then you'll see that area spread out. I don't see is as far-fetched at all for NCC to obtain this land when Kmart goes down to the All Mighty TAR-GET!

I am sure that there are already plans for the space tenfold but, how about a section of seats behind the HHS bench when they tear down the girls' gym? BTW, I love the new luxury suites in the library. How much do those go for?

Highlands Bluebirds are best team in the state, right now in ANY CLASS. That's a fact.

Come on Mustangs, reach down deep and get that first win. There will be no turning back for the momentum of this program once that happens.

I don't think we've seen this QB for Ryle at a comfortable spot yet. He played at HHS which is pretty intimidating for your first start. Then they played a team that has more bugs to work out than they do. I think you will see this kid come into his own this week. Will they score 35 points against NCC, not sure. I do know one thing: HHS was working some bugs out that first week but I will give credit where credit is due. Ryle flat out came out and hit Highlands in the mouth on Defense that game. I was thinking that this may be a lower scoring game at first but as the week progresses, I am finding my vision of a 35-28 score. I also can't decide who'll get it. I would say the team that doesn't give up until the end.

I heard through my NCC sources that they are looking to dig out the side of the hill and put in a football stadium. Any truth to that? I would love to hear the scoop. Any info?????

That scoreboard was given to the school my sophomore year when we won state in 1992. It has been there since. I think they repainted it a few times but is still in decent shape. I kinda liked it when it was over by the school. Maybe we could get them to put it on top of the cafenasium which is scheduled to be demolished not soon enough. I would like to see the jumbo tron come back. The projection screen just doesn't look the same but it's better than nothing. I will say that atleast they improved the sound system finally! I guess the number one thing to do before all is find out what happened during the mysterious power surge during the Ryle game and make sure that we have a few extra fuses laying around in case we gotta go over and replace it.

I know that Highlands has a great field. I also like the stadium. I just wish that there was more space. I know that sometimes you can't always get what you want. I also agree that their gym is the pits! That gym is so bad that they have to stop basketball games and mop the floor so kids don't slip. I just thought it'd be nice to see if anyone had any outlandish ideas like me. You know, when you sit around with no money, you think of what it would be like to have some and what you could do with it. If I ever came into some money, the first thing I would do is help out the schools.

I know. Well, someday when I win the Lottery, maybe I'll do that. I just keep seeing all these great facilities around town and ours is sufficient but it sure would be nice to have a complex instead of just a field. I guess we can always dream. My plan wouldn't cost too much: 1-purchase all the houses on North side of Bluegrass Ave 2-about 2million tons of concrete 3-million dollar field turf 4-huge jumbo-tron 5-retractable roof like Lucas Oil Field (that is the neatest field yet!) 6-state of the art weight facility/lockers 7-OKAY.....I can't go on anymore but you could imagine how cool that would be right???

Been on here WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAY longer than my numbers show. I am fine with your opinion. It sounds though that your problem is not with me at all but with the coaching staff at HHS. If you feel that you can do better than the job that Dale has done, by all means step up and show us the way to the promise land. I think that team did the best that they could out there. Every player and coach left it all on that field. I am sorry if it's not how you wrote it, but I was very satisfied with the effort. As for Mr. Guidugli's effort, that kid is nothing but GUTS! He left every ounce of what he had out there. He got flipped with a few minutes to go, couldn't even stand up, and still stayed out there and ran the offense. He is all heart and I have so much respect for him. That's one thing I will say about big Dave Guidugli, he sure can grow some boys with heart!

True DAT! If I heard it once, I heard it 20 times from KN-frosh announcer at the NCC game, "New to True for a big Bluebird gain." I think those two will be pretty special players in the years to come. True most definitely should get some JV time and even some Varsity time at the end of the year. That kid is a stud. He stands above all those other boys out there on the field. He has speed, agility, and plenty of size to go with it! Man I love Highlands Football! How do you not get excited watching the talent poor in year after year?
