Congrads HC. Early on, no-one I talked to expected them to do this well. The core of that team has some of the toughest football players I've seen. Very good coach and that's a dangerous combination. Good luck next week! :ylsuper:

After watching the film AGAIN, holes were create by the offensive front. Knox had, and still has, very athletic linebackers that made several plays. Many times, they were untouched. I do agree with your first paragraph.

Following this lengthy discussion and trying to envision what actually happened, after watching the clip, to me, it is clearly a designed play. Watch the left side block down. Absolutely no hesitation by the center and no effort to pick up the football on a previously mentioned fumble. He clearly held it and then took off running. Now whether this is legal or not, I do not know for sure. I would think not legal. As far as the officials go, they do not see everything, we all know that. Sometimes they are equally fooled and do not know for sure what happened and are not sure what to call, so they let it go. We may never know if the coach knew if it was legal or not. Obviously, he would not admit it.

This will be a good football game. Could go either way. Raceland sure makes football sound exiting up there. Leaves me a little envious. Good luck LC. Raceland 28 - LC 20

According to some of the posts above, maybe it was legal if the QB touced the ball before he left on the fake sweep. Best I remeber, there was not a nose ligned up on the center. And the coaches made sure the center was not taking much contact before we tried it. We actually practiced this play several times before we tried it in the game. The center knew how to cuff the ball and hold it against his rear. Seems he only held it there 2 or 3 seconds before the guard came around and took the ball. I can remember laughing in the huddle after the play. :lol:

No. The Center held the ball at the full extension of his snap and the QB faked sweep with the backs around the right end. The right guard took the ball from the center's fully extended snap and carried for a big gain around the left end.

This discussion reminds me of the "guard around" and whether or not it was a legal play. We actually ran this play once for about a 30 yard gain in a live game back in 85'.

Trust me, they are physical on my game recordings. When a D has 10 & 11 in the box, in can be difficult for 5 or 6 to block them. No matter who they are.

Knox knew who to block. When they got into our secondary, they were gone. For the most part, Knox just had better athletes. Of course, we did our part to make it easy for them. Ints, fumbles, failed short yardage conversions, in-ability to wrap up and tackle :irked:. Credit to Knox though, I said in an early season post that they are a very good football team. Although we got spanked, I did see some good things. Harlan will be okay down the playoff stretch. I expect 1 maybe 2 or 3 W's depending on how well they prepare. If they could have beat Allen Central and Lynn Camp, they would be 7-3. Those games were very win-able. Those games were lost by a total of 8 points. I would not be so quick to judge them on these losses. We all know they would have a tough time vs Corbin, Hazard & Knox. We've got our heads up around here looking forward to Paintsville this Friday. :ylsuper:

I would be very suprised if either coach would run up the score against the other (20pts. max). They are both old school coaches with class and have respect for one another.

Burke's last playing year was 85. Graduated in 86..... You have the others correct + Mike Pennington, Mike Dempsey, Bobby Owens, Creed Turner TE & Shelby Calton TE.

Cawood - Tommy Hensley, Mike Sargent, Dusty Alred, Scotty Farmer. I may have left 1 or 2 out. That was a year after I graduated. Cully was the coach. Not sure about Bell, but would like to know.

I film every game. We watch our early season game with the Hounds often. Watkins is UNBELIEVABLE on both sides of the ball (should be in the running for Mr. Football). Corbin is a well disciplined and very well coached team. Although I don't know a lot of detail about LCA, I'll take the Hounds by 2 scores.

Last year, Knox could have named the score. This year, well, might be interesting............. :popcorn:

No dis-respect intended to the Merrick's. I know they are great kickers. I followed Monte's success at Bell and watched several Bell games the last couple of years and had a nephew that played there a few years ago. I actually forgot that the younger brother was at Pineville. Wolfe at Harlan is a very good kicker. He can kick touchbacks if coach would allow it. Coach has him kicking knuckle balls on kick-offs. As far as field goals, probably from the 30 and in. His strongest game is punting. Looks like it is going to be a nasty night!
