  1. And we have a WINNER!!!! These were given out to the boys yesterday at the banquet. SOMEONE forgot to change the logo from last year...
  2. If you haven't had the pleasure of watching James Quick, you had your opportunity today. Congrats MVP, congrats Louisville Cardinals, and congrats to the Commonwealth on producing another quality gridiron star.
  3. We can only hope they make further upgrades to the stadium and put some real stands in too. Seems like a no-brainer, if you build it they will come, and add an extra 100K to the athletic budget per year.
  4. Personally, I think it's a really great idea. The colored pictures with incorrect spelling, and newly learned handwriting that my son was given the last two years are among his most prized football posessions. He thinks it is a really neat tradition for the elementary kids to get involved with the season when it ends with a state championship game. There are so many things that we are still learning about traditions wise, that it is no wonder Highlands is such successful program. I think (and I am probably wrong) that the seniors go back to visit the elementary school that they attended as a student. It is a great way for the kids to connect with the players off of the field and sends the message that they were once where the younger kids are now. It keeps the older boys grounded and allows the younger ones to put a face with a name that they probably heard over the PA system every Friday night. It also gives younger siblings a chance to show off their older brothers... How to solve the problem for those that didn't attend elementary school in Ft Thomas? I'm thinking it would be neat for mine to look up the kids he received pictures from and thank them for helping support him and the team...
  5. Him: C'mon now honey... Just like using my shake weight...I'll show you how it's done. Her: I ain't touching that! Player on field looking up, nudging his teammate: Dude, your dad took too many of his little blue pills again!
  6. What does living in Ft Thomas since grade school have to do with it?
  7. And that's why we do the right thing.. Pay tuition. It's the 3, 4, and yes, even 5 round trips per DAY during football season that are killers. But, we wouldn't have it any other way. When you consider the alternative... I hate to think about it..
  8. Now you've let the cat out of the bag...All this time I could've been using a fake address? And no one told me about this?:ohbrother:
  9. I HAVE read the entire thread. 25 posts mention HHS, leaving 49% discussing HHS in one way or another...I do agree that this tread as a whole is not about Highlands. But when Highlands, Trinity, Mayfield, Central are lumped together as perennial winners, and how can they be stopped and kept from winning all of the time, blah, blah, blah,....all supporters of these schools are going defend their programs. "The argument that the out of district players for Highlands came for academics is ridiculous.".....And just what is this? It has already been pointed out that HHS was starting to platoon around this time, when classes were expanded. That makes a big difference. The programs that have dabbled with platooning are succeeding, Cov Cath, BG, Lex Cath, etc., maybe not all into state champs, but they are pulling away from the rest of the field. I was using our experience as an "example", to show that, no, we didn't chose HHS because of football as insinuated in the earlier quote. I believe that there are something close to 250, and I could be wrong (I probably am underestimating), tuition students in the school system. Only 8 play football (grades 10-12). Yep, all of the good players in NKY are at HHS... The thread is "The health of KY football". Like I posted earlier, you will have programs that consistently win, until the others figure out the "secret". It's no big secret. What does HHS, Trinity, Mayfield, and Central, Belfry, Beechwood, etc., do in the off season that is different? What do they do during Spring football that is different? What do they do all summer to consistently stay good or get even better? Answer those questions and implement the solutions. Feeder programs that have all kids playing, not sitting on the bench. Developing talent behind the starters, is another. You never know what a kid is capable of if he never gets the chance to show you. Some kids don't practice well, but put them in a game, and he's a star. Standing around watching kids play both offense and defense, doesn't help a player develop, he needs to be out there doing it. If they are not involved, they will quit, and you will never know what could have been. Why is Mayfield so successful every year? What do they do? They are in single A, but they seem to have Beechwood's number every year. Central seems to have Belfry's number too, but their state games are usually closer in score. What have they implemented to make them more successful? At least now, with 6 classes, more schools that may otherwise not have had a chance to go to state are able to play there. Cooper is a good example. They've made huge strides in 5 years. I was really excited to see them make it to state. Take what they did wrong, correct it, build on it, and you hopefully have another trip there next year, with a possibility of winning, you never know.
  10. Last time I checked, we were the parents that decided where our son would attend high school, not you. Don't tell me that we didn't chose HHS for the academics first and foremost. When it came down to decision time, we had to weigh everything. Did we want to continue in the Kenton county school system? Did we want him to attend a school that failed to prepare our daughter academically for college? Did HE want to continue in the system that does nothing about bullying, etc.? Let's see...able to take AP classes as a frosh, better academics, better environment...OR... not be prepared for college, no AP classes until junior year, higher teacher/student ration, less than desirable environment...Hmmmmm... no surprise we chose HHS. He could play football anywhere, probably get more playing time at the county school, but would he learn anything? Would he develop better there? Would he enjoy it better? Answer to all these questions is NO. He learned more in the FTJFL in two years than he ever did in the 6 years in other programs. Would we send him to a school that may have the number one program in the state if it didn't have the academics to support it? NO. Don't dare tell a parent why THEY made a decision to send their child, male or female, to whatever school. The atmosphere at HHS is way above the county school, that includes behavior issues, etc. The academics is top notch, and having an outstanding sports program is literally "icing on the cake". Most importantly, HE is happier. If your child is miserable at a school, and there are options to get them out of a less desirable environment, what parent is not going to do whatever they can to change it? Instead of bashing successful programs, and saying the "rich are getting richer", why don't the lesser successful schools learn from the more successful ones? Take a few pages from their books and implement some new techniques. What do they do differently in the off season? What makes them so successful...?
  11. What a great article! Very well written, and what a reminder of what this game is all about...Nothing like playing under the Friday Night Lights, as both of these teams will do. Memories to last a lifetime. Good luck to both teams and all twelve teams playing in their respective classes this weekend in BG. Go Birds! Bring home number 6 and 22.
  12. Just the SIX plays I viewed turned my stomach. He kept doing it because he kept getting away with it. I don't know how more obvious it can be when he's in the open and right in full view of multiple ref's. He looked like a bobble head out there. The last of the six plays has the HHS player trying to stay out of his grasp so he doesn't get hit anymore.
  13. I just spent the last few minutes watching just six plays on Hudl....towards the end of the game. Being able to watch just these clips in real time and slo mo, just, um, can't find the words....Every single play shows #70 consistently and continuously head butting #9 Hicks. I don't know how the kid doesn't have a concussion too. When he wasn't getting head butted, he was getting punched, sometimes 2-3 times he was swung at. And this player is PROUD of himself?
  14. My son told me about this the other night. It's like he has the mentality that if they aren't going to win, he'll make sure to take as many players out of the game as possible. Would be interesting to know if #70 played like this all season against other teams, or did he save it up for the Birds?
  15. To add to this....apparently my post #35 on the final game thread has become Twitter fodder amongst the LC players...One player took a pic of the post then added this comment "Way to make me proud" and Mr #70 added "apparently you all are a bunch of hick coach pay off the ref cheap shot players".... nice.....
  16. From what I've seen on other pages, and looking at their roster numbers, they have around 52 players including some frosh. That translates to probably quite a few playing both ways. With that being said, if in fact they do have a bunch playing both sides, then you know they won't be able to keep up with Highlands platoon system and constant fresh bodies. If anyone has more definite info or I am incorrect, please keep us informed. Will probably have more info after practice tomorrow.
  17. Whew...beginning to think I was seeing things with regards to LC #70..Glad someone else has seen it too...guess I need to watch a little film..
  18. As we were looking down on one of those missed calls, at the endzone closest to the middle school, the ref was standing on the line as the two players were both going for a McCoy pass. Just before the blatant infraction on LC, the ref literally turned his head left toward the school building. From our angle above and maybe 4 feet behind him, there was no way he could've seen the end of the play. Like he turned his head on purpose to "miss" any possible interference. His head was turned too far to even consider seeing it out of the corner of his eye.
  19. Just one example.. since we were on the home team side, great vantage point...one of last plays, HHS #9 coming thru backfield met up with #70 LC's fist. Literally. #70 turned and leveled a serious punch..right in front of a ref. No way to miss it, none... Flag? nope... cheap shots by LC and no flags... you know going into any game, stuff is going to get missed, but when you are less than 4 feet away from behavior like that? Weren't any other players around either, totally out in the open.. they all need to go back to referee school.
  20. It was a good size crowd, stands were full with many standing around edges of field. The game against Lex Cath will be played at DCM. HHS is region 4 winner and since it is an even year, we will host.
  21. Add me...no flying this week. Gotta love having a sinus infection during vacation...
  22. My apologies, getting old sucks...:ohbrother:
  23. Should've done some research, but I did find that HHS played Ryle as far back as 2007. 2008 started the two games per regular season. That's a fair amount of history and a good rivalry to let go of, for whatever reason. Maybe it has just run it's course and not had the intended effect on the Ryle program that was hoped for. It was great while it lasted and hate to see any hard feelings between each teams fans. Always enjoyed travelling to Ryle, everyone I ever had contact with was friendly and were gracious hosts. Could've done without last weeks weather conditions, but will miss the games between these two teams.
