I totally agree with FTBIGBIRD's last post. HHS is always criticized for it's out of district student athletes. Have any of you critic's ever looked into the amount of out of district students at Dixie for example, and how many of those are student athletes? There are a TON. Out of district don't have to pay tuition as long as they are Kenton County. They also accept out of county which do pay some tuition. Out of district and county have to be accepted on condition of grades and conduct. HHS requires the same, BW must take a test. HHS doesn't take just anyone out of district, and neither does Dixie, but you would be amazed at how many student athletes at Dixie do NOT live in-district. This encompasses all sports from football, to soccer, softball, track, etc. Prime example is Mr Auburn himself. Not bashing, just stating a fact. He lives in Scott's school district. They had a choice, like everyone in NKY. We had a choice, luckily. We went for the top notch education first, (how many other schools offer an AP class as a freshman?), secondly, we love the community and everything it does for the school district. You just do not get that with a county school for the most part. Thirdly, comes the sports. Best coach in NKY. No way were we passing that up. I will go for a motivational coach over and ranting and raving on any day. HHS was the best fit for us.

This may add some perspective to Mr. Towles accomplishments thus far: Starter win streak - 19 games Highlands has broke the state records for both points in a season and touchdowns in a season, records that were previously held by the 1998 Highlands squad. Highlands has scored a total of 807 points and 115 touchdowns this year (the previous records were 801 points and 113 touchdowns). Based on High School, very impressive. Can't wait for next level.

The biggest advantage I have seen in regards to Highlands is the fact that in addition to all points thus listed, the community/football families/etc. invest hundreds of thousands of dollars in our school and programs, not just sports annually. We are a Blue Ribbon School who is currently in the midst of a three part multi-million dollar renovation on our school largely funded by the community because we are an independent. The football program receives over $25000 on an annual basis just to provide the best equipment and coaching tools available. A lot of this has to do with demographics, not just the close-minded attitude of "we are better than you". Overall the Community is the catalyst.

Our son has been playing football since he was 6 years old. Being from outside the NKY area, we didn't know squat about the local area high school football programs. We started attending local games on friday nights. One school kept drawing us back and it was HHS. It just "felt good" to go to watch games there and experience the community coming together to support their school team. We endured the NKYFL, BCPWL and Kenton Co. middle school programs. We finally got him into the FTJFL and the change was almost instantaneous. He loved the game again. He had such bad experiences with the other groups that we thought he would never play again. After his 8th grade championship game, all of the players were grouped not by original team color, but were seated next to a member of the opposite color jersey. Blue, white, blue, white, etc. Coach Mueller told the boys that there were no longer a Red, Green, Gold or Blue team. They were ALL Highlands now. They were his Frosh Team for this year. His speech was moving as well as motivating. That is the kind of coach he is. But make no mistake, they are all held accountable. You will not have any incidents like what has occured at other schools this year. He doesn't put the fear of God into them, because he doesn't have to. Kids WANT to play for him because they will become better players under him. They will learn the game, and learn to love the game, which in turn make them stronger players and stronger teammates. Do we live in Ft Thomas? No. Do we want a better education for our son than what he could get at our district school? Yes. Do we pay to send him to HHS? Yes. Were we recruited? NO. NO. NO. Would I ever send him to his assigned district school? No way in H*LL, especially after what went on there this year. My only regret? Not putting both of our children in the Ft Thomas school system sooner.

Just wanted to take a moment and give a shout out to LC #64 Melendez 6'1" 285 pound man child playing nose tonight. This kid had a motor that would not stop and a heart to match. Had a set of wheels that could rival HHS #42 Bruns and gave the HHS "O" Line fits, especially the first quarter before HHS could figure out a blocking scheme. It was an honor to shake this man's hand after the game and I wish him well at the next level. Thank God he is graduating. Really enjoy watching football excellence and a 285 pound lineman running like a DB. Now on to STATE!!!

And just what did the two Frosh players do to "earn" theirs?

Really surprised that CCH had no answer tonight. Congrats on a good season, but that is an empty compliment when you consider that Highlands/CCH base success on State Championships. If there was any doubt that Highlands can simply reload, you saw it tonight with a really strong running game. The Drive Continues!!!

Last I heard, Severe Concussion and his parents were driven to Children's Hospital by a Highland's parent. Just another fan doing the right thing.

That's why the play the game. Although it's hard to strategize against a team that is 3-4 deep in skill positions. All bets are off in one of the greatest rivalry games in the Commonwealth.

Congrats JC on your number one status in the Bush League! I'm sorry, not the team the fans. Pray for all injured and look forward to a real game with real fans next week.
