  1. Yikes! Did I hear that right? Corbin in a full court press right up until :30 left in the game? I guess they wanted to hold on to that 30 point lead.
  2. Sounds like our Bears are getting taken to the woodshed tonight. Way too many turnovers against a team like Corbin.
  3. Here's some good news! There are currently 90 kids participating in the off season weight and agility program for the Black Bears. 10 of which are 8th graders. This number doesn't include the kids playing basketball right now in high school or the 8th graders who are playing in middle school who will join in after their season. I'm sure from that number some may fall by the wayside, but the number of kids wanting to be a part of this team is extremely promising. I just find it so exciting that this many boys are willing to commit to the hard work in the off season that will make 2009 another exciting year for our county.
  4. I was tickled to see Harlan County's Cody Ison #50 on the O-line. The QB's had plenty of time to pass. I didn't see Nate Gilliam #48 but twice. I had hoped he would have gotten a touch or two to showcase his speed. Hunter Adams from Middlesboro really played great! I watched it on the computer so I couldn't see everything too well.
  5. I'm wimping out and gonna watch it on T.V. A couple of my boys are coming though. I hope it will encourage them to work hard.
  6. Is Jim Hicks Coach Billy Hick's nephew? Jim Bob?
  7. "Come on ref, get in the game" is my comment about the situation. That wasn't what was said at the game. I nor anyone else heard what was said to the ref. He just out of the blue blows his whistle and walks over to get security. He told the officer that he called him a cheater. I very seriosuly doubt this guy could even understand what he said. I hope he feels ashamed about it though and realizes how confused and embarrassed that he needlessly made this man feel.
  8. :thumb: I know I am not even supposed to talk about it until after week nine, BUT this series with Bell has all the makings of some good mountain football for years to come. Coach Larkey doesn't strike me as the type of guy to shy away from competiton. I am hopeful with the number of kids that are coming out for the off season work outs, that our staff will be able to put together a very competitive team. It's so great to see this many kids excited about football and willing to work hard for a common goal. I love it!
  9. First, I have never reffed a game, nor do I ever want to. But I have played. As a player, I tuned out everything going on in the gym and focused on playing ball and never ever really heard the fans, the opposing coaches, the Principal, the police officers, anybody that was physically handicapped, and especially anybody that was mentally impaired. If the players can manage to play, the coaches can manage to coach, while in a gym full of yelling fans, then why is it too much to ask an official to do the same. If someone was cussing or making physical threats, then toss'em, but "you're a cheater"? Come on! This particular incident was not in ear shot of either benches or coaches and was during a time out on the opposite side of the gym. The man who was thrown out is child like. Throw him a wink, turn around, and ref the game. Flexing your proverbial muscle by throwing a mentally impaired gentleman out of a basketball game is low down in my opinion. IF you want to throw somebody out, pick the guy who is cussing and screaming and making the rest of the fans uncomfortable, but "Come on ref, get in the game!":idunno:
  10. I saw a 13th region ref throw a man out of a game that was clearly mentally disabled, wasn't disruptive to the game, or cussing. I doubt this ref could even understand what this fellow was even saying. He was simply enjoying one of the pleasures in his life, watching a basketball game. I think he called the ref, "a cheater". :scared: The fans and even the officer who was asked to escort him out, were in total shock at this ref. I think everyone thought he was just joking with him to begin with. Forget reffing, how about acting like a human being! It made me sick to my stomach. Poor guy.
  11. Whitley and Bell are my two big worries on our schedule this season. It's gonna be nice to not have to travel all over the country to go watch them play. I like this schedule. I really feel like we should be able to compete in 5A. Hopefully we can pick up where we left off last year and build on that.
  12. You always think we are fighting when I think we are discussing. What about Bell County week 10? Would it be blasphemy to think that we may have a snowball's chance this upcoming year?
  13. I'm not so sure about Leslie. They seem to be struggling right now and very very young. I feel pretty confident about that game. I don't think the Leslie game has the potential to be the intense rivalry that the other two mentioned will be. Not now anyhow. One thing about Leslie Co. is that they play a tough schedule. Perhaps this will pay off for them in next couple of years. Southwestern lost 16 seniors. They had 13 juniors though. Not sure what to expect from that game.
  14. Looks like Whitley Co. will only be losing 8 seniors.
  15. It'll be done right. I'm sure of it! I'm obviously not an engineer or a contractor. It just made sense that the baseball/softball fields would be cheaper to build than a football stadium/track. Our kids need a place to call their own. Harlan County deserves the same quality facilities that the kids across the state have, and have had. I want to see it ALL completed and soon! I'm sure the same fine detail will be given to ALL the outside facilities as was given to our new school and gym. It's been about 40 years since we had anything "new" here. But since this is the football forum.....
  16. You are probably right. I don't know what the plans look like for the baseball/softball fields, but isn't it mostly just grass, a bunch of fencing, and a couple of dugouts. I'm sure that they will have nice club houses and concession stands included in the plans. I would think that the fencing would be the biggest cost of the whole project. I guess that it's a lot more complex than that. Looks like they could pump water for the fields from the river. We really need to finish all the outside facilities. It's just sad that we have all that nice flat barren property and have to bus kids to go to football/baseball/softball/track practice instead of them just walking to them on campus. Everything is ready, we just need some help to finish things up.
  17. What you've got there looks good to me HDE. You throw in Jordan Calton, Alex Haywood, Brian Owens, Dylon Smith, Jesse Hensley who will be juniors and you have a nice selection for some defense. I like the sound of Eric Miller and Timmy Engle playing football! Both boys are very athletic. I hope that we continue to have good numbers. It's exciting to hear that other kids are wanting to play who didn't want to, for whatever reason, last year.
  18. I was looking at the roster and I had forgotten about Travis Fields. He used to play some QB. He may be another option as well. Maggard will be a Fresh next year and he looked really good at QB his 8th grade year. High school is a different game though. I guess we'll just have to sit back and see who works the hardest in the upcoming months to earn that spot. Also after looking at the roster I noted that we have a whole bunch of seniors this upcoming year! I don't know why I thought we were going to be so young for. There was alot of Sophmores this year that got a lot of good playing time and should step right on up!
  19. I'm just tickeld to see this thread!!! I think we are good as far as running backs. We need a good QB to replace Blanton. I'm not sure who it will be. We need a couple of good QB's as we found out this year, anything can happen(a broken wrist).
  20. Did you just do a cheer Lungbuster? Great win for the Lady Bears!
  21. I don't think that the mountain folks will have any problem getting around in the big city. Most of them could be dropped off in the dark on top of a ridge and easily walk out to their pick up trucks without the luxury of street signs. These mountain boys will have no problem finding the endzone this coming weekend either. :thumb: Hopefully Breathitt, Bell, and Hazard will bring back some hardware to the mountains.
