Why doesn't KY produce any Legendary HS B-ball Players like in the 70's and 80's
DeWayne Morton and Jason Osbourne didn't do what folks thought they would in college based on high school hype.

Why doesn't KY produce any Legendary HS B-ball Players like in the 70's and 80's
Go back and look at the list of players from the 70's and 80's. A lot were solid players but many didn't live up to the hype. Many didn't have the college careers some kids in the 90's and 2000's had.

Why doesn't KY produce any Legendary HS B-ball Players like in the 70's and 80's
Elijah Pittman was dropping 20+ a game before being dismissed from Marshall. Obviously he had some issues off the court but he was super talented. 6'7 wing. Could shot and drive.

Anthony Cade? Wasn't he supposed to go to U of L?

I think Kelan Martin (Ballard) who is a FR at Butler could have played for Lville or KY. I think Tyler Brown (Owensboro Apollo) who went to Illinois St and averaged 18 in the Missouri Valley Conference could have played for Lville or KY. Antonio Slaughter (Shelby Co.) who had a fantastic career at WKU could have played for Lville or KY. We already know about Chris Lofton. Anthony Grundy (Lville Central/Warren Central) who ended up 1st team All ACC at NC State could've played for Lville or KY. Doelman from Ryle who ended up at Xavier could've went to Lville or KY. The Thornton kid from Lville Manuel that went to Vandy & Xavier was good enough to play for Lville or UK. David Graves. Bubba Wells. Mike Wells. Tyrone Hopson. Aaron Cosby. Elijah Pittman. Kameron Woods (Lville Eastern) Lead the Big East in rebounding last year at Butler.

I think the reason KY kids haven't been nationally known like the rest of the country in the last 15-20 years is the state of KY didn't have well regarded AAU teams. KY,for whatever reason, just resisted AAU club ball IMO. In the early 2000's kids were playing for Ohio or Indiana teams. Now in the last 5-6 years AAU teams(Travelers,Lville Magic,Hoop Dreams, etc) have showcased KY kids. Take Shelvin Mack. He wasn't highly recruited for one reason or another yet he's in the league. This summer Aric Holman had an offer from NKU as his only offer. Until he played with Hoop Dreams in Georgia....had he not went he would maybe still be an under recruited player with the same skill that eventually had Memphis,VCU,Xavier,Kansas St,etc offer.

Indiana is still producing great talent but they haven't had a player come threw with Damon Bailey type hype since well umm Damon Bailey! Unless you have Lebron James coming threw your state I'm not sure the hype will be there like it used too. I will say this OJ Mayo was on the verge of having that type hype and yes I realize he was originally from W. Va.

A lot of great answers. Definitely think the rest of the country started focusing on basketball while IN & KY had been on it. I also think journalism has changed. Doesn't seem to be the focus on writing about high school basketball like it used to. This year Owensboro and Apollo both have a kid with multiple high level D1 offers but I can almost guarantee there won't be a write up leading into their game on January 2nd.

Owensboro 74 Warren Central 70
Yep. Hampton was his name. I heard he has/had an offer from either Louisiana Monroe or Louisiana Lafayette. Either way he was very good last night.

Owensboro 74 Warren Central 70
Owensboro really missed Phillips at PG in this one. Harris was the only true PG on the floor for the Devils and his youth showed at times. Coach Rod Drake finally moved Holman into the middle on the press break and it helped. Hats off to the Dragons thgh. They really came to play from start to finish. #2 for Warren Central needs to be talked about more statewide. He's the real deal.

Highlands 49 Owensboro 42 (Class 4A State Championship)
I rewatched the game last night and to the posters talking about the reads the QB made they are dead right! In the 2nd half the outside was as wide open as it was in the 1st half. And there were maybe only 5-6 times when the QB either kept it or pitched it. Locher for whatever reason just misread things. Coach Joe Prince was quoted in the Owensboro paper as saying he and his staff didn't make the adjustments in the 2nd half they needed to make to counter the ones Highlands made. He never mentions his kids being tired, intimidated, etc. And Owensboro was moving the ball on the last two drives they had the ball. The toss sweep out of the I formation on 3rd and 5 was strange because Owensboro was moving the ball out of the triple option look up until that point. And then of course the half back pass was strange when yet again the offense was now getting a push out of the triple option look.

Highlands 49 Owensboro 42 (Class 4A State Championship)
I don't think fatigue was a big factor in this game. Before the game I said Owensboro's offense was going to have to win this for them and it was true. Owensboro defense was gashed all year from the Hop-twn scrimmage on. Highlands made defensive adjustments at the half and Owensboro didn't counter those on offense. Ball game.

Besides Covcath in 5A who are the favorites to win titles in 2015?
This offense probably fit Prince's skill set more then what they were doing when he was in high school(spread).

Besides Covcath in 5A who are the favorites to win titles in 2015?
Locher was a very good high school QB. 3 year starter. But he wasn't a once every 10 year talent IMO. Bowling Green loses their QB. Highlands losses theirs too. (shrugs)

Besides Covcath in 5A who are the favorites to win titles in 2015?
Owensboro returns a ton of kids. They'll have to replace their QB but looking at the starters listed from the newspaper before the 4A championship game they'll return 9 starters on "D". 5-6 starters on offense. Owensboro's JV lost to Bowling Green 14-13. And Owensboro's Freshman beat BG twice. 32-26 & 36-29.

Owensboro 65 Marshall County 56
Sophmore Jakoby Harris is the PG for Owensboro. He's going to be a good one. Last years starting PG is Arius Phillips who played in the 4A state championship game. Now that football is over he'll be back on the court.
-
Owensboro 74 Daviess County 50
Aries Phillips is the returning starting PG. He is also a 3 year starter in football. He didn't play last night.

Owensboro 74 Daviess County 50
Owensboro looked really good, on the road, against a solid Daviess Co. team. Holman passes the ball so well from the high post. He had to have had 5-6 assists to Miller.

Owensboro/Highlands: 4A State Championship Game
Owensboro's offense will have to win this game by winning on 1st down. If they get into 2nd and 6 or less consistently they'll be in business. Owensboro's defense has not been that good this year IMO. They have stood up at times but they haven't been what I would call stout. I'll be in Bowling Green for this one. Hoping for an instant classic!

Daviess County 93 Madisonville 62
Griffith might be the most slept on kid in the state! He was at Owensboro before transfering to Daviess County. Couldn't imagine if the Red Devils still had him and he was playing at this level!

Owensboro/Highlands: 4A State Championship Game
If Owensboro has no more then 1 TO this will be a game. More then that it'll be a route. Owensboro's offense has moved the ball on everybody. But TO's have stalled quite a few drives this season.

North Oldham?!?!
Sounds like Owensboro might be walking onto an (extra) soggy field....

Apollo did beat OHS in the finals at WKU.
