Alicia Miller Enquirer Player Of The Year
nkysoftball replied to BigGreenHorse's topic in KY Softball (High School)
In the last Enquirer poll a total of 6 of the possible 28 Northern Kentucky coaches voted. Wouldn't exactly call one jaded and the other not. Both were good players on good "Northern Kentucky" teams. -

Do you know what you're talking about? Totally different circumstances, I'm betting her parents never thought twice about it. -
UH, Conner beat Brossart.

Congrats to NewCath Pitcher Danielle Hausfeld

Not trying to argue any of your points about the other girls. Hausfeld had a very good season and it should not be downplayed. She has a big game tonight, good luck to her. -
Congrats to NewCath Pitcher Danielle Hausfeld

Although she did get a lot of K's against weaker competition, if you look at these "strong" teams you talk about she still had 9 against Brossart 6 against Conner and 5 against Ryle. What were the K numbers for the pitchers you think are better against these teams? Strikeouts are important, every strikeout takes away the possibility of a bad hop grounder or an error. -
George Rogers Clark/Harrison County Predictions

GRC, something about being there before is always huge at this time of year, even though Harrison is every bit as good. -

I agree with both of you, you are comparing apples to oranges, Hausfield did not play the competition that the others did but she also doesn't have the defense behind her. Tough to make those comparisons when the competition level is so different. -
I think it is funny you mentioned Ginn in a thread about Gaines. Very similiar in every way except Gaines is a little taller.

Henry County 3 Walton Verona 2

conference tournament? -
I think it takes more of the skills you mentioned plus the ability to not be afraid of a hard ball being thrown at 50+ mph, ground ball hitting you in the face or sliding in what sometimes is a rock hard field. While speed is not really as necessary in softball it sure does help.
-
I agree and I may offend some, but it takes a much better all around athlete to play softball as opposed to volleyball or soccer.
-
It still has to start with the rec leagues. You have to learn to crawl before you can walk. Also, it is just about time for a push for middle school softball, it is happening all over the state and once again Northern Kentucky is behind.
-
In my opinion the recreation leagues are in dire need of better facilities and instructors. I don't think better girls softball facilities are a high priority with any of the local governments.
-
Pitching, there is not real tradition at any school in Northern Kentucky. The teams that are best in any given time period are the ones with the best pitching.

Leg up for Grant in the 32nd with wins over SK and Walton back to back. -
"Newton wasn't much better". He still has a long time to improve. But to compare Newton with Hartline last year is nuts.
-
UK just does not have the overall talent to experiment with a young QB. It is too important to get to the 6 or 7 win total and get to a bowl game. That is why I think this will come down to Hartline or Mossakowski. I don't think UK can afford the drop-off in the passing game with Newton this year.
-
So even though everything that has come out of spring camp says that the veteran is far ahead right now, this season should be scraped to go with the younger QB?
-
I like to think I am a supporter of all the players. It just so happens that Hartline is the one continously being bashed, and in my opinion, unfairly. He played his first season with what was probably the worst group of receivers UK has put on the field in the last 20 years, Joe Montana would have struggled. IMO at this point he is a far better QB than Newton. I haven't seen Mossakowski, but I'm guessing the experience Hartline has will make him better at this point as well.
-
I'll be excited about UK football if they bring back Jeff Speedy to play QB.
-
Wow! that is all it will take, I would have to think your not that big of UK football fan.
-
Do you think there was a good group of receivers to catch the ball year before last? There is a lot more to a good passing game than just having a QB that can sling it 60 yards. Hartline passed for over 1600 yards with a group of receivers that would not have started anywhere in the SEC.
