I know the Rams didn't want to show GC anything from the mound, but Raceland threw a 7th grader then an 8th grader against what I would consider a pretty good hitting team. Talk about throwing those kids to the wolves. I'm not knocking the pithchers at all. I'm just saying against a team like GC, I would expect VERY few 7th or 8th graders to be able to handle them. GC's offense has turned it up a notch lately. Peveto, Logan, Craft, Rice and Greenslate have been on a tear lately, while Reed is starting to get back to his old form. The defense has been playing better also, which is really good news for the pitching staff. By the way, I believe Zach James threw a no-hitter for GC. Congrats to him. :thumb: We'll see how much improved this GC team is come Fri & Sat in Lexington.

This was a great game. Raceland made a nice comeback in the bottom of the 7th but fell just short. The Musketeers need to thank Craft and Logan for this win. They were the only two players on the team who hit the ball this game. Actually, they're the only two who have hit the ball so far this year, including pre-season. Yes, we've had sporadic hits here and there, but these are the only two who have hit consistantly. Reed, Peveto and Rice are gonna have to step it up at the plate. Staten has been injured, so I think he just needs some time. Of course, it's still early so they all probably need a little time. I don't want to leave out the defense in this one. Greenslate has been injured, so he was only able to go just under 3 innings. He didn't have his best stuff, but that's to be expected. He threw fairly well considering he hasn't had much mound time yet, even in practice. Rice had some great defense behind him along with making a couple of good plays himself. The loss of Zach James is going to mean Rice is also going to have to step it up on the mound. Great game Raceland and congratulations to the Muskies for the victory.

I said, "With the bats of..." while discussing RUNS, not defense. Yes, Martin is a decent fielder, but has had problems at the plate in past. It's kind of hard to DH for your 3rd baseman. However, GC has done it for 2 years. As for the other positions, we'll see. There is a lot of talent yet be seen from GC. Absolutely no doubt about it. This team will surprise a lot of people. Don't overlook them or you may pay the price. My one question about this team is where they stand with their pitching. If they can come up with a surprise or two there, they could make a lot of noise.

I think Greenup will come out on top in the 16th. The bats of Craft, Logan, Reed and Staten with the addition of Peveto and Rice to the starting lineup should lead to lots of scoring opportunities for the Muskies. In no way can the hole be filled that was left due to the graduation of Heineman. However, the pitching staff should be solid with Greenslate, Martin, Hardin, James and VanBibber. But, you just don't know what can happen in a "one-and-done" situation. So, I guess we'll see come May. :popcorn:

I'll have to agree. He's very underrated. He is one of, if not the best hitter on a team that's been full of them for the last 2 or 3 years. He struggled a bit his freshman year, but since then, he has been an extremely tough out.

I would be interested to know where these young men are planning on attending college, provided they are seniors and/or have had offers.

:laugh: I overlooked absolutely none of that! He was everywhere BUT Greenup this summer. Find out about that for yourselves. I'll say nothing about his actions at the Legion State tournament. It's everyone elses fault that he could only get 10 players, when the rules state you need 12 players. Hmm...where were all of those high school players? Something else you can find out for yourselves. As far as the burden, don't take the job if you can't handle the heat from it. If your kid as good as you think, there will be no problem, as long as you treat them like everyone else.

I have been around the program for a long time. I'm not the only one who feels like this because a lot of people know what's going on. Remember, I'm not the one who brought this up. With the talent at GC, a lot of coaches could have done as well and quite possibly better.

He's still on a roll. It was errors that stopped his streak. A stupid throw to third in the second and a misplayed ball in the fourth. ERRORS stopped the streak, not pitching. Yeah, all things come to an end. :confused:

Heineman (GC) vs Sheppard (LC) is going to be a great game. Both of those kids are amazing on the mound. Also, both teams hit the ball well. I think it will come down to defense. Assuming both pitchers are on their game, which I figure they will be, the team that plays the best defensively should win this one. Go Muskies! :ylsuper:

Just a slight correction: Boyd Co. was a 4-0 win, not a ten run game. Logan Helms pitched a super game against the Muskies. Were it not for an errant throw to first that hit Billy Logan in the back after he struck out in the first inning and the catcher dropped the ball, the score would have been 0-0 going into the 6th. I'm not sure if it'll be 2 or 3 games, but I think GC will win this because of pitching. Not only do they have Heineman, who is one of the best in the state, but they also have Greenslate and Martin. Those are three quality pitchers. They also have Hardin and Scaggs, both of whom have thrown very well this year. GC pitching has allowed an average of 1.35 runs per game in the last 20 games. Not earned runs, that's runs PERIOD! Great pitching and great defense, along with the way GC can hit from top to bottom in their lineup, with plenty more quality players on the bench, will make GC hard to handle. GC has a great shot at making it to Applebees. :thumb: One final thought to ALL of the teams that are left: I'm tired of seeing kids who love this game not having fun playing it because of the adults, coaches and parents alike. Remember, it's a GAME. Have fun and enjoy the ride. It'll be over all too soon, especially for the seniors. Good luck to both teams, although my heart is with GC. :ylsuper:
