STRIKE3 Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 Baseball will begin March 23rd. Let's use this thread to discuss the 16th Region, Teams, Players to watch, Schedules, Sr college commits and the season. Ashland Blazer Bath County Boyd County East Carter Elliott County Fairview Fleming County Greenup County Lewis County Menifee County Morgan County Raceland Rose Hill Rowan County Russell West Carter
sidelinedoc Posted February 17, 2009 Posted February 17, 2009 I believe that it should be a 3 peat for Greenup with another Regional title.
sidelinedoc Posted February 18, 2009 Posted February 18, 2009 As I posted in the football thread for Raceland, Mason Rister is eligible immediately. He may start baseball practice today.
friedtaters Posted February 19, 2009 Posted February 19, 2009 I would agree that Greenup is the favorite but not by a large margin. Several teams could compete this year in the 16th.
sidelinedoc Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I would agree that Greenup is the favorite but not by a large margin. Several teams could compete this year in the 16th. I agree with that 120%. I just think at the end of the day, the Musketeers will be holding the trophy. Just like several years ago, Boyd had stiff competition but was always able to find a way to win the tourney games.
friedtaters Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 Boyd and Ashland will both have the pitching to contend, especially in a 2 or 3 game tournament. I think both are a year away from being really good though.
BaseballDad Posted February 20, 2009 Posted February 20, 2009 I think Greenup will come out on top in the 16th. The bats of Craft, Logan, Reed and Staten with the addition of Peveto and Rice to the starting lineup should lead to lots of scoring opportunities for the Muskies. In no way can the hole be filled that was left due to the graduation of Heineman. However, the pitching staff should be solid with Greenslate, Martin, Hardin, James and VanBibber. But, you just don't know what can happen in a "one-and-done" situation. So, I guess we'll see come May.
sidelinedoc Posted February 21, 2009 Posted February 21, 2009 I like this post. Very nice, Baseball dad.:thumb:
Nets Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 Morgan will have some nice pitching with Lopez, Adkins, Nickell, and Harvey Harvey will likely move to behind the plate when not on the mound. The key will be hitting at the middle/bottom of the order. Should be strong defensively in the IF, outfield is a ? but do return Cameron Dunn and Cory Murphy. Should be a top 5 team with plenty of depth and athleticism. East Carter and Morgan Co. should be strong contenders from the 62nd.
16thBBall Fan Posted February 23, 2009 Posted February 23, 2009 In my opinion the top five teams are Greenup, Boyd, Ashland, East, and either Raceland Russell or Morgan for fifth. By Districts: 61st- Fleming and Rowan 62nd- East and Morgan 63rd- Greenup and Raceland or Russell 64th-Boyd and Ashland. Another question How many baseball districts are seeded? I know the 62nd is are there any more.
sidelinedoc Posted February 24, 2009 Posted February 24, 2009 Raceland is not in Greenup's category at the present, but with the young talent that took it's lumps last year along with two good transfers, they may suprise some people. Jmo.

I would think the rest of the positions will be won in the early part of season by who is hot at the plate and making the least amount of errors. Someone said there are around seventeen juniors and seniors on the team should be plenty of competition for the openings on the field.:thumb:
Ms Liberty Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Elliott Co shoud be Much improve this year and looking for some wins. Good luck boys.
Mom55 Posted March 2, 2009 Posted March 2, 2009 I would love to see Greenup County on top again, it's been fun watching these boys.

Yes, Martin is a decent fielder, but has had problems at the plate in past. It's kind of hard to DH for your 3rd baseman. However, GC has done it for 2 years. As for the other positions, we'll see. There is a lot of talent yet be seen from GC. Raceland is not in Greenup's category at the present, but with the young talent that took it's lumps last year along with two good transfers, they may suprise some people. Jmo. Absolutely no doubt about it. This team will surprise a lot of people. Don't overlook them or you may pay the price. My one question about this team is where they stand with their pitching. If they can come up with a surprise or two there, they could make a lot of noise.
